“Hitchcock On All Fours”

And RIP Steve Jobs. “He changed the world,” Spence says. “Yes,” says Admin, “but in a way that takes us ever farther from the flesh and blood. Why is that something we cheer? But maybe a thought for another time.”

    Greetings to All!

T&G: Sending out powerful good luck your mum’s way from Westchester.

Very sad to hear about Steve Jobs. A true innovator, kind of the Thomas Edison of our time. I own the first generation Nano. I wonder what the future holds for Apple?

Good review, Spence. Didn’t give away too much of the plot either.

Rio, did you see the post last night that it was another Nielson – the Nielson rating guy – who passed away?

All positive thoughts winging their way to T & G’s mama. We are anxious to hear all about the show.

Barb is off for her 6 hours at her CLL. Hope all are tip top today!

However, the computer (laptop, iPad, iPhone, whatever) has made communication much easier. It has certainly made research much easier (in that one doesn’t have to travel all over the world for access) and, of course, much quicker. And sometimes there is too much flesh and blood.

    Good review.

    Good morning all.

In what way does Chet compare to Hitchcock? Pondering…..

    Fantastic review. Thanks for sharing.

Admin: Perhaps. But technology has also allowed our spirits to roam freely through a giant spider web. How cool is that?

    Another review? Sigh.
The only review I want to read is the one by Wookie. Or Rio. Heh.
    Rest in peace Steve Jobs.

Damn pancreatic cancer. It has killed some of the best of the best:

    Randy Pausch
    Luciano Pavarotti
    Patrick Swayze
    Jack Benny
    Countable Basie
    Margaret Mead
    Irving Wallace

And the best little brother in the whole wide world, my brother Mike, who died at age 47.

A good review: 5 out of 5 roses. Steve Jobs will be missed. He’s like a modern Leonardo DaVici or the reinventor of the wheel. He has truly changed the world.

Wha!?….Hitchcock?…snort!….No offense but Chet and Hitchcock are nothing alike….sniff!…I can’t read that review because something on the page blows away my browser…grump!….The title alone is off-putting…grunt!

Nielson!….I definitely read an article on the demise of Leslie Nielson, not the Nielson of Nielson Ratings….wuffle! … Maybe someone at the “paper” made a mistake and put up the wrong article yesterday….grumble! …sob!sob!sob!….No matter, Leslie and Steve are still dead. Gone from this earth…snuffle!

Maybe the Hitchcock reference has more to do with the book’s title. There is a great film of his called “The Man Who Knew Too Much” with Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day.

Title!…Of course!…snort!….It’s the Title of the Book that the Reviewer is comparing to Hitchcock….grunt!…Now it is very obvious. Thanks Rose! Good job sorting that out…whew!

  16. B.Stover
    11:01 am on October 6th, 2011

Rose: I’ll be calling my brother later this afternoon and will post after that. (He’s three hours “behind” me since he lives in Nevada.) I think your idea about the title is what the reviewer had in mind. I remember when Spence was coming up with that title he mentioned a film.

Rio: November is fine with me. As I said before, I’ll have to be a buyer this time rather than donating anything…although….do you think the book The Complete Chronicles of Narnia would sell? It’s 524 pages and has illustrations by Pauline Baynes. It has a brief introduction by Douglas Gresham, Lewis’s stepson. I could donate that.

A 5 star review! (we still think Wookie’s is the best of the best)
Rose: you are right on about the Hitchcock reference.

Rio: November is good. Picture already taken and item ready to go.

All this talk of how much it costs to feed our friends up north reminds me how important our monthly donations continue to be for SnowHook, Rebecca and AJ.

That is a good review, but I don’t think Chet is unreliable. I understand Chet.

I hope both Stover’s brother and Nana’s son get to go home today.

It is finally Husky weather here…a major cold front is due to arrive today.

Stover, I am far from an expert in these matters, but I think those books would sell.

You will have to have a good sharp photo and a description, and of course your selling price. I will put out a more detailed instruction list as soon as I hear back from someone…heh!

Then I’ll be off to town where I’m picking up a picture for the Royals’ Mum to hang at her booth. Then i’ll be back.

Tomorrow we’re leaving early to go look at a Honda Element. Which leaves the next day when I’m going to the Royals’ Mum’s show!

SH: Thank you for the good wishes. It’s one very large book.

“Unreliable narrator” isn’t really a negative term. It’s necessary in detective fiction. For example Watson narrates the Sherlock Holmes mysteries and could be called “unreliable.” (I can’t remember the name of the character who narrates some of the Poirot mysteries, but that is similar.) If Holmes narrated, the answers would be given away too soon and we wouldn’t really have a mystery novel. It would be more like a how-to book.

Bear is here to report Good News!!! #2 son was released from hospital yesterday afternoon! What a relief. A very scary episode.
Nana spoke with him this morning and he sounded very upbeat. He will have to watch his diet very carefully and continue to take medication, but things are definitely looking up. He is eating again – the report yesterday about not eating solid food was in error. The situation began to turn around when he was assigned a new doctor. This one really cared about her patients. She will talk to the insurance company about medications that are covered by their plan. Why is it that whatever is good for you is never part of the healthcare system?
Enough of that. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your prayers and well wishes. A Big sigh of relief.

B: I hope you hear the same good news this afternoon when you talk to your brother. We know how difficult it is when we are far away from our loved ones when they are going through difficulties, especially health problems.
The beloved Chronicles of Narnia – an excellent choice for the Mercantile Musher Store!
Thank you for the explanation about the narrator.

Siber-H: #2 son lives in the Atlanta area and works in DC. Trigger is a member of #1 son’s family in Seattle.

    Hi to Melanie the Lurker!

G&BooBear: I remember you asking a similar question about Trigger a while back. Hope it was answered then, if not we apologize for the omission. How is your little kitty doing these days? That last picture you posted of him was so cute!

The mention of Narnia, brings to mind Roger Hane who was a classmate of my dad’s.
He painted the covers for the Collier-Macmillan editions of the Chronicles of Narnia.
Among his many magazine clients were Ladies Home Journal, Life, Esquire, Sports Illustrated, Fortune, New York magazine, Redbook, The Lamp, Look, Vista, the Saturday Review, Travel and Leisure, Look, Sylvania, Ramparts, the National Lampoon, and Playboy. Unfortunately, at the age of 36 he was murdered in Central Park by someone who wanted his new bicycle. I’m attaching his cover for Book 1 of the Chronicles of Narnia

Rose: How about you – are you feeling better? For colds and such, I have always found EmergenC and also Airborne to be of help when taken at the first sign of a sniffle.
Thank you for the reminder of the dates for the Prof’s trip to SLC. The forecast will be prepared as the departure time draws closer.

BSD, we are so happy to hear good new about #2 son.

Did youse guys read our news concerning Duke/Ammo from last night? One of our references is Exec. Dir. of Humane Society and well-known name in PA animal welfare. He emailed Mom this morning about his conversation with that twit. Gave them what-for because he thinks their checklist is stupid like we do. Told the twit he’d give a doggie to our mom in a second. And he has been here to our home and knows our cushy life first-hand.

The state rep who won award from Humane society for leading effort to get that puppy mill passed in PA is also a reference and can’t wait until she calls him!

I called my brother. He’s still in the hospital only because they are still going through all of the photos taken during the pill/camera test. He’s feeling much better, his blood count is good and he’s been walking and eating normal foods. He sounds more like himself also.

Awe, thanks everyone for your concern. One of these days I’ll have to tell you about the time we went to see John Edwards. (From Crossing Over.) He is a medium, and we went to a lecture in Los Angeles exactly one year to the day of Mike’s passing. Guess who showed up? Yep, my brother, my nephew, and a whole bunch of other dead relatives. I wasn’t sure if I believed any of that stuff, but John Edwards knew things that there was no way he could have known about. It was wild.

We are turning in early too, another day at Crazy Lady Land tomorrow.

Wolfie, we would like to hear more about John Edwards – as long as it’s not the one from North Carolina.

We were thinking about the Great Dane lady today. Isn’t it too bad that we can’t dish out the same punishment to the doer as what they gave to the animals in their care? Maybe to Michael Vick and a long line of others. If we could make the rules, that is how it would be done.
