Himmler (More)
“I think you confused people with the Heinrich Himmler as P.I. thing,” Spence says. “Care to clarify?”
Admin sighs. “This was at Crime Bake. It’s a crime fiction conference and a lot of the people who come are looking for guidance.”
“So what were you doing there? Heh heh, just kidding.”
Admin gives Spence a look. “This particular panel was on how to build suspense. I was just pointing out that there are technical things, yes, but nothing works unless you care about the character.”
“And as an example, you – ?”
“Exactly. Picked Heinrich Himmler out of the air. Suppose he was the P.I., solving crimes, getting in danger. You wouldn’t care. In fact you’d want him to fail.”
“Didn’t he come to a grubby end?”
“Yes, wandering around in disguise. The Brits captured him, identified him, but failed to search him properly, thus missing the suicide pill he successfully took. He should have been in the dock at Nuremberg.”

Ahhh, so there was Method in Admin’s Madness.
Good morning all! Acupuncture today. BearSpiritDog, glad I’m your alarm clock for dinner. 🙂
8:51 am on November 15th, 2011
Aaah, now the Himmler reference makes more sense. We were dazed and confused.
Calmer day today, just 1 doctor visit – checkup of more semi-vital body parts. Almost got it all covered now.
Just ordered some Christmas gifts on line. Chipping away at the list. Got some perfume for DIL yesterday. Gosh, that stuff is expensive!
9:00 am on November 15th, 2011
Now I understand the logic in Admin’s reference.
Hope all goes well with the checkup Barb.
Good morning all.
9:15 am on November 15th, 2011
We are happy that Admin further explained the Himmler reference.
Barb or Maggie, hope the physical goes well, whichever one of you is getting it. Mom got a card that she is way overdue for hers, but when she called, she learned that her doc (PA) is out on maternity leave. So she is waiting for her to return. The doctor’s office did not think that was a good idea, but the last time Mom went to the temp doc while hers was on leave, he put her on blood pressure meds!! She has a history of very low blood pressure but was going thru some short-term health issues related to stress of overdoing during the BIG election. When she went back (this time to the head doc), he said that guy never should have put her on those meds.
9:25 am on November 15th, 2011
Oley, We think docs are too eager to give out meds. When Barb went in last time, they asked her about her knee pain ( 1-10). She said maybe a 3, so then the doc said “Do you want something for the pain?” Maybe people expect that. Barb just said no thank you.

Melanie, We were wrong about the Wi. Newf breeder, they are a few hours west of Green Bay, Wi. Gus is their 3rd Newfie, but first from that kennel.
The vet says he does not think his problems are from injury, but are more likely hereditary.

Good Morning to all Plunderers.
Ve think that if Spence vanted to create interest in detective, he should use example of most elegant female, maybe from far avay land …maybe Russia. And she is undercover spy. And she is so beautiful , no male can resist her.
But, she is very viley – no von can tie her down. And she vears very beautiful hats.
Now THERE is character readers vould line up for in bookstore.
Hmmm. Maybe Natasha should give idea to Spence….
10:37 am on November 15th, 2011
Nattie, Great idea! We would buy that book.
Barb is off to the doctor appointment and then some errands. BBL

Relief!…. Thank dawg Admin explained the Himmler reference….snort!…. I was starting to wonder about that guy. Even more than usual and that’s unusual… grunt!
More!….My friend says I should thank the 3 guys who ordered her little cards from the MMCS for being so patient….sniff! ….I just blame Bo for that whole thing and also for throwing a monkey wrench into everybody plans lately…gruffle! … Her mother blabbed about how I won’t let him sit on her lap and how I won’t let him sniff my bed or any of my toys….grump!… How she has to feed us separately and how the only time we get along is when we are outside when no one is watching us….heh!
11:02 am on November 15th, 2011
Rio – Hopefully that interloper Bo will leave soon. Good for you for standing your ground.
Bo is a good-looking Pug, but not as handsome as you. Your last picture shows you in fine form from all of those Brutal Walks.
11:20 am on November 15th, 2011
Dear Tasha, hmmm. Me thinks that Chet has already met a “example of most elegant female, maybe from far avay land …maybe Russia. And she is undercover spy. And she is so beautiful , no male can resist her.”
Hence the puppy!
So sorry Gus. You will need lots of tummies.
Don’t get me started on Docs and medicines!
Riö, sorry to hear that Bo is still there.
11:42 am on November 15th, 2011
Whew! Thank you Admin for explaining that!
Some of us were starting to worry…..
11:51 am on November 15th, 2011
Glad Spence explained the Himmler thing. We agree that he should have been in the dock at Nuremberg, but at least he is gone from this planet.
Gasp! Do you suppose Bo is staying through the Holidays…through ALL the Holidays.
12:02 pm on November 15th, 2011
Rio: Tell your friend that there is no problem about sending the cards. I understand how busy she is and she shouldn’t feel “guilty.”
12:30 pm on November 15th, 2011
Rio: As Siber says, there are more than a few here who are beginning to think Bo may be more than “just a visitor”. Wasn’t your friend’s mother mentioning a while back how it would be nice to have another pug around? The color may have been black…I can’t be sure. Only one thing points in your favor…no one actually brought him home…he was dropped off. And, you haven’t overhead anything that would lead you to think this is a permanent situation. Of course, those dropping him off at your house could have been bringing him to…never mind…let’s not go there.
12:54 pm on November 15th, 2011
Rio’s got a brooooo-ther
Rio’s got a brooooo-ther
No more Zingers all by himself. He has to share his baseball toys. He has to share his friend’s lap.
Pretty soon Bo is going to demand equal time on the blog!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!
1:13 pm on November 15th, 2011
Rio: Pay no attention to those guys. We continue to hope for the best…aks: Bo-Ending-Short-Temporary visit.
1:19 pm on November 15th, 2011
We see our friend Wolfie checked in late last night. He has now officially been added to the list of Working Dogs.

Gruffle!… We were just outside because her mother has Had It Up To Here with us for some reason…heh!….Bo is 5 years old, but with all the Brutal Training I have had recently I was whipping his butt when it came to darting and dashing around…chorkel! …That was until I knocked over the new Big Plant in the living room…sniff! …Bo has already found this plant unbeknownst to those two….sniff! …Then I re-found it…heh!
Stover!… Thanks, but my friend should feel guilty for a lot of things lately. ….grunt!… But I’m sure the main thing will be leaving soon…wuffle!…Very soon.
1:45 pm on November 15th, 2011
Blog!….Bo does not Blog. Believe me when I say that guy is a worse typist than ole Spencer…heh!…Plus, I would never share my laptop with him…heh!
1:56 pm on November 15th, 2011
I’m working on God’s Bits of Wood by Sembene Ousmane which is a new text that has been added to our World Masterpieces syllabus. I’ve never read it before and we’re starting it next week. I told my students that I will be reading it for the first time along with them. Should be interesting. Has anyone read it?
2:16 pm on November 15th, 2011
No, Bee, have not read it. Probably won’t. Sounds too intellectual for us.
We did just get a B & N delivery. Received the new Beekman Boy’s Heirloom Cookbook. That is a Chrsitmas gift for Kelly. Barb ordered the new Rin Tin Tin book for herself. And Betsy and Tacy is coming in a day or two. It is a new reprint of old stories written in the 1940s. An entire series sort of like Little House, but set in the early 1900s. Staff, or anyone heard of it? It is a childrens series, but each book becomes more difficult reading, as the characters mature.
2:20 pm on November 15th, 2011
Barb, When you finish it, please let us know if you liked the Rin Tin Tin book.
2:29 pm on November 15th, 2011
B: I have not had the pleasure of writing this book. We see Ousmane Sembene had a very impressive resume, which included: film director, screenwriter, actor and author of the fore mentioned Le Bouts de Bois de Dieu which was written in 1960. He died rather recently, in 2007, at age 84.
It sounds like a very interesting story. I am going to look for a copy so as to read along with you and your class.
2:51 pm on November 15th, 2011
At this point in my life: Reading? What’s reading?
Looks like C.Harris’s contribution will be in the auction. Must say that the whole thing is beautiful!
We have bald eagles in the area! They have been nesting about 3 miles away for several years, but they are increasing their feeding range. Wonder if it has to do with the damage “Irene” wrought on the river?
Anyhoo, Jesse has seen them by his house. One was in a tree and let him come pretty close. It then took off on it’s 7 to 8 foot wing span!
This morning coming home from Acupuncture I saw one flying above the river. Sigh . . Poetry in Motion.
2:54 pm on November 15th, 2011
Eagles!…Will there be another Eagle-Cam next year?…sniff!
2:54 pm on November 15th, 2011
As usual I forgot why I was coming on here . . . Jeez Louise.
Someone sent me the following. Supposedly true. . .
<emA little old lady from Wisconsin had worked in and around her family dairy farms since she was old enough to walk, with hours of hard work and little compensation.
When canned Carnation Milk became available in grocery stores in the 1940s, she read an advertisement offering $5,000 for the best slogan.
The producers wanted a rhyme beginning With 'Carnation Milk is best of all.'
She thought to herself, I know everything there is to know about milk and dairy farms.
I can do this!
She sent in her entry, and several weeks later, a black car pulled up in front of her house.
A large man got out, knocked on her door and said, "Ma'am,…..The president of Carnation milk absolutely LOVED your entry…..So much, in fact, that
we are here to award you $1,000 even though we will not be able to use it for our advertisements!"
He did, however, have one printed up to hang on his office wall.

SNORT!…heh!snort!heh!…Good one Melanie!
3:09 pm on November 15th, 2011
I’m laughing Melanie!
Masquers: I’ll let you know how the discussion goes from class.
In my elective class we’re starting T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land next week–one of my favorites. I’m going to try to post things on my blog about it….if I can find the time.
3:22 pm on November 15th, 2011
Melanie: That is shocking! Heh, heh, heh.
3:24 pm on November 15th, 2011
Melanie: That is great! Nana says she is going to forward it on to her sister in Montana.
Siber-H & Barb&Magpie: We love Rin Tin Tin! Remember this TV show?

3:33 pm on November 15th, 2011
Hmm…Masquers. You have not had the pleasure of “writing” this book? Prof B must still be chuckling over that one.
3:40 pm on November 15th, 2011
Melanie, we are falling over laughing at the Carnation Milk slogan!
3:55 pm on November 15th, 2011
Rio: Your little escapade with Bo sounds like a page out of book #4…somewhere around chapter 22.
3:57 pm on November 15th, 2011
Ha ha !!! Bear you are so right… Chap. 22 moment for sure!!!
3:58 pm on November 15th, 2011
Bear, Mom remembers that tv show. I don’t. I want her to get me some Sargent Preston of the Yukon (the tv show) dvds, but she won’t do it.
That is a good one about the Carnation Milk.
I wish we had eagles here. We don’t, but we do have buzzards.
4:06 pm on November 15th, 2011
Siber-H: Sargent Preston of the Yukon! A much loved show from the distant past. Which Rin Tin Tin book are you and Barb discussing?
4:42 pm on November 15th, 2011
Bear, It is a brand new book about Rin Tin Tin. It was on the lower rungs of the non-fiction best seller lists for awhile. It was written by the same lady that wrote the book about the horse, Seabiscuit. Mom read that book.
5:15 pm on November 15th, 2011
Siber-H: Nana loved the story of Seabiscuit. She says it is one of her all time favorites.

A Wikepedia article says Rin Tin Tin was a the name given to a dog adopted from a WWI battlefield that went on to star in 23 Hollywood films.
5:36 pm on November 15th, 2011
I was trying to figure out if I was remembering correctly that there was a series about a bush pilot? Or maybe he was a doctor who was also a pilot?
Can not remember. Have caught up with “Bones”. Loving it.
” Rin-Tin-Tin” always good.
There were also the Greyfriar books? Or something like that. About a dog.
5:53 pm on November 15th, 2011
Bear is twirling, twirling. The Sled Dog Dreaming Gift Cards have arrived. They are beautifully packaged and tied with a lovely red bow. (whispering) Melanie, you need not worry about your bow-tying talents. It looked absolutely perfect to us.
6:19 pm on November 15th, 2011
I agree, that is a perfectly tied red bow.
6:30 pm on November 15th, 2011
Melanie, we remember that show with the bush pilot. That wasn’t Rin Tin Tin was it?
We just finished listening to the first 3 C&B books on CD in the car. TFAT is a day overdue as of now, and we feel terrible about it (but not terrible enough to drive it to the library now).
6:46 pm on November 15th, 2011
Mama says she is really dating herself now, but she remembers a show about a flying cowboy – “Sky King”. Is that the one you all are thinking of, or is it another one?
6:47 pm on November 15th, 2011
Siber – did you (please, all paws crossed) get your package from Mama yet? We’re starting to worry a little (translation: a lot)
6:47 pm on November 15th, 2011
T&G: Please check your SSD
6:49 pm on November 15th, 2011
T&G That is pretty amazing…same subject, same time.
7:05 pm on November 15th, 2011
When I was a kid, I saved up cereal box tops and got a Sky King decoder ring.
7:08 pm on November 15th, 2011
I remember Sky King.
7:09 pm on November 15th, 2011
That’s it!! The tv pilot cowboy was Sky King.
7:18 pm on November 15th, 2011
I agree with Siber-H! The Royal Mum is correct!
I remember Penny. I think I wanted to be Penny!
7:57 pm on November 15th, 2011
Sky King!!! Thanks T&G!!! That is the show Mom was trying to think of. Of course we are all too young to remember that, but Mom is ancient.

8:04 pm on November 15th, 2011
We were just going to chime in with Penny, but Melanie beat us to it.
The new RTT book is by Susan Orleans, author of The Orchid Thief. Do not think she wrote Seabiscuit.
Off to have dinner and watch NCIS.
8:13 pm on November 15th, 2011
Barb, I think you are corect about who wrote Rin Tin Tin.
Mom says she remembers Penny now that you guys came up with her name.
8:18 pm on November 15th, 2011
Sky!….We here do not know of any Sky King…snort!… Although, we did just finish a Memior by Bill Bryson and he talked about growing up in the 50’s and watching an inane show called Sky King….heh!… He always thought it was weird how the Sky King had to land his plane and was still able to always catch the bad guys….grunt!
Basement!…Someone here is trying to get Bo to stay down in the basement with us and watch Once Upon A Time to give her mother a break from the both of us…heh!heh!…It was a stressful day for ole mom when we decided to rough-house in the living room…snort!
8:42 pm on November 15th, 2011
Sharing!…Well, we are all down here now….snort!…This is loads of fun (not!)….grump!… My friend thinks we should “share” the blanket, but that’s not the way Pugs roll….gruffle!
Cinderella!….Robert Carlyle is excellent in Once Upon A Time….heh!…His character is just scary and weird enough to make it believable and not over the top….snort!
8:45 pm on November 15th, 2011
Rio,
It sounds like you and Bo are starting to bond. Hope that is true as it will make your time together much easier. At least for you and Bo. Grandma might not appreciate the results though.
8:45 pm on November 15th, 2011
Hi everyone. Your president has just flown into town.
8:46 pm on November 15th, 2011
We remember Sky King and also saved cereal box tops, but not for a decoder ring; we sent away for a special belt that glowed in the dark. Some show about Space Travel.
O.Howlers, MollyPop’s Mom & B: Was the bush pilot Sky King? I don’t remember. I think he had a niece named Penny. Rin-Tin-Tin and Rusty lived with soldiers in a fort in the Old West.
8:49 pm on November 15th, 2011
We watched Once Upon A Time last Sunday. Think that is the one you are watching now, Rio. Is it the Cinderella episode? The show is good, and habit forming. And share, share share! Hee hee.
8:52 pm on November 15th, 2011
It’s Liz! Hi Liz!
8:52 pm on November 15th, 2011
Liz, wave to him for me!
T.v. Time and bed shortly. G’nite,
8:55 pm on November 15th, 2011
Pres!….Hey Liz, go ahead and keep him…snort!… We won’t miss him….grunt!…Bo says, “Oooo-bama go and he don’t come back.”….chorkel!
9:01 pm on November 15th, 2011
Hi Bear!! Okay, that’s one wave and one keep him here…noted. He’s blocking off a lot of traffic, i must say!
9:03 pm on November 15th, 2011
Hi Liz!
Just in time for me to say:
TTFN
Sky King is on DVD’s from Netflix.
9:03 pm on November 15th, 2011
Another vote to keep him there.
9:07 pm on November 15th, 2011
We are in shock here. After 37 years, Dad was down-sized today. Mom is freaking out, since there is now nobody here with a job. They paid off the house yesterday with a big chunk of their savings, planning to put it back each month there was no house payment. I keep telling her it is all OK, but I am actually afraid that we are going to find ourselves eating Ol’ Roy kibble from Wal-Mart. GAG. The next fund raiser may be for my dinner. Everybody–paws crossed.
9:08 pm on November 15th, 2011
SiberH!…Paws Up!…snort!
9:11 pm on November 15th, 2011
Rio, High Five, Dude!
9:13 pm on November 15th, 2011
37!….Yeep!…After 37 years they laid the guy off?…snort!….That sounds really cruel. Will he get his retirement?…wuffle! ….Doesn’t everyone get about 2 or 3 years of unemployment pay these days? If that’s the case, you guys will all be okay and you will surly avoid the Old Roy Kibble ..sniff!
9:17 pm on November 15th, 2011
We couldn’t figure out why everyone was still answering the question after we had posted, then realized ours hadn’t gone through until 8:46…after the fact.
Something tells me it’s that time again.
Liz: It’s good to hear from you.
Good night everyone – Bear
9:20 pm on November 15th, 2011
Macy – oh my dog! Is it because of the droughts and all in TX? Is that making your economy even worse than the rest of the country?
9:21 pm on November 15th, 2011
Macy, We are very sorry and we know it is a terrible blow. As Rio said, it is just plain cruel. I keep hoping and praying that this downsizing and layoff crap will end.
Paws are crossed here and prayers are being said.
You keep telling your mom that it is okay.
Husky Hugs
ps We are darn good at fundraising.
9:22 pm on November 15th, 2011
Sorry to hear that news, Macy.
9:27 pm on November 15th, 2011
Macy: I am so sorry.
9:27 pm on November 15th, 2011
Macy, We are so sorry to hear that! Rio may have a good point about unemployment. If he worked for 37 years, is he close to 60? He must have good benefits if he worked that long for the same company-and SS can start at 62.
And, drum roll…we vote to bring the POTUS back to us!
9:36 pm on November 15th, 2011
Poor Bear – he’s obviously caught in some kind of time warp.
Macy! We are so sorry to hear this news. Will he get a pension at least? Is he old enough for SS benefits? A good thing the house is paid off – not so good having less money in savings. Sending lots of prayers and hugs your way.
9:44 pm on November 15th, 2011
Hi Liz: Hope you and Cricket are enjoying summer.
Macy MinPin: Sorry to hear about the downsizing. After 37 years that must be a shock. Don’t panic. Consider your options.
9:46 pm on November 15th, 2011
Macy, I am so sorry to hear your news especially coming before the holidays. I am thinking of you all and trust you can keep home and hearth warm
Speaking of which….it is to be -40 tonight with a high of -26 tomorrow. This is the first day I haven’t taken the dogs out for a walk. Crapola as Rio would say.
Thank you Melanie for the photo you sent me, it is really beautiful and I think will interest people at the auction.
9:51 pm on November 15th, 2011
Macy – There is too much of that stuff going on, and now it’s hit you too. I hope your dad got a severance package. I’m so sorry to hear that.
10:05 pm on November 15th, 2011
Holidays!…. grump!… Seems like they always do that laying off stuff right before the Holidays….gruffle!… Back in 2008 that happened to my friend. She was really really happy to be gone from the place she worked, but she was scared about finding a job because 2008 was the beginning of the End of the Economy as we once knew it….grunt!…Hasn’t gotten any better in the last four years either….grumble!
10:15 pm on November 15th, 2011
Sorry to sound like a broken record CH, but HOW do you live there? I can’t imagine what that feels like.
10:18 pm on November 15th, 2011
Charris!….I was going to tell you that I never say “Carpola” but then I looked closer and you said “Crapola.” Not the other saying that Dawson coined, I believe…heh!… I would be more apt to say “Crapola” then “Carpola”….snort! ….Say what you mean and mean what you say, that’s my new motto….grunt! …Bo is pissing me off tonight….dammit!
10:22 pm on November 15th, 2011
Murphy!…. Hey, Murphy Brown is narrating a show called Nazi Hunt: Illusive Justice….snort!… We are going to watch as much as we can of it tonight…wuffle!
10:27 pm on November 15th, 2011
Macy. That really sucks big time. Tell your dad that we are thinking of him and we are sure that everything will work out for your family, and definitely no Ol’ Roy kibbles for dinner for anyone. Wookie
10:38 pm on November 15th, 2011
Liz…I know, I know. Tonight I feel pretty down. I think I feel colder this year since I lost 25 pounds and don’t have that extra layer of natural insulation.
I need to start planning my options of where to live in the future. I was advised to move sooner rather than later if I plan to relocate as it is harder to meet and make friends the older you get (especially if you are wait until retirement and then lose that avenue of meeting new friends).
Rio….I could have sworn that you have said crapola but maybe I am quoting someone else.
10:39 pm on November 15th, 2011
Official!….Well, it is official. There will only be her and her mother and me for Thanksgiving dinner this year….grunt!… I’ve not heard where Bo will be at that time. I can only imagine a few places I’d like to see him go….huffle! ….My friend thinks this is actually a really good thing because she has a ton of projects besides making a million little gift cards, to work on and finish before the end of the year…heh!… Her mother is a little upset that her son and his wife are going to the wife’s sisters house this year for dinner….burp!…My friend says good riddance. A lot less work and stress for someone here who needs a break. A nice relaxing break and a few bottles of sparkling wine….heh!heh!
Invitation!….So unbeknownst to my friend and her mother I am offering an invitation to anyone who wants to come to my house for Thanksgiving Dinner….wheeze!… Don’t be shy. If you need a hot meal of Turkey, gravy and mashed tators, just come on by and show up on the back patio. I’m sure there will be pie out the ying-yang just in case!….heh!
10:44 pm on November 15th, 2011
Charris!….Move here! Move here!…wooooo!….We would be your Instant Friends and Family!….wuffle!…Wait! You already got family in Ole Kentucky huh?…sniff!….If you decide not to live in Kentucky with all those horses, well you know where to come…chuffle!

Where ever there are Plunderers, you have friends!
11:12 pm on November 15th, 2011
What a nice offer Rio, inviting us for Thanks Giving. Do you think Bo will still be there?
Night all.
11:16 pm on November 15th, 2011
Liz, Hi and 1 more vote for “keep him there”. We don’t discuss politics here much because peace is important. There are several here that worked hard to have him elected and we respect their views and feelings…we just don’t happen to agree. Oh, well. You should here the political discussions when the whole family gets together. Very loud lefties and very loud righties!!
Macy, we are so very sorry to hear about your dad. Since your dad worked in the emergency/fire department (we think) we can’t imagine why he would be retired!! Texas needs all the help it can get with this drought and the side effects of too much dry weather. Paws crossed that he lands on his feet and takes off running with a new job.
11:18 pm on November 15th, 2011
T&G, those 25 pounds were frozen off C.Harris!!
Why oh why can everybody else loose weight but our mom? She just keeps getting fluffier and flurrier!
11:20 pm on November 15th, 2011
Good night, all.

Dear Macy,
So sorry to hear of your Dad’s downsizing. They like to use that word because it doesn’t sound as bad as fired. But it means the same darn thing. I am sending good wishes and good luck your way and hope that you both find good jobs soon.
It is very scary to be ‘downsized’
Liz, nice to hear from you and I vote that you send him back. I think he is doing his best with such a stupid group of congressmen and women. Heh. But you are right we shouldn’t talk politics. This country is too divided right now. We need to get along more. Like Rio and Bo….heh.
Goodnight all and wishes for a better tomorrow.

What a day, what a day…
Macy: My thoughts of comfort are with your mom and pop. I know bright sides must be hard to find right now, but aving the house paid off is one less expense to cover each month. Hoping for things to start looking up for you. Your in my thoughts.

I’m chiming in late tonight, but I want to tell Macy that we’re sending positive thoughts and lots of prayers their way. That news stinks.
Love the Carnation ad, Thanks.
I read the Rin Tin Tin book and to say that I was disappointed is an understatement.
I passed it on to a couple of friends and it came back quickly. One of them didn’t
even finish the book.
