Hero Dogs Of Veterans Day

“Here’s a timely video,” Admin says.

“But there’s an ad first,” says Spence.

“So?” Admin says. “This is America.”

Good Morning Masquers! What a lovely photo! Wish I was there with you!

On this day, please take a moment to salute our veterans who have served our country in the past, (Shout out to Bernie), and to thank all the men, women, and dogs who continue to so bravely serve and protect our country in the present.

Great video, Admin! Saluting Spence’s dad here!

May everyone have a great day!

On this Veterans Day honoring all the two-leggeds and four who have served our country. A special thanks to Sage, Bino & Roselle. (whispering) Sage looks very familiar…like a certain dog on a cover of a book we have all read)

I see Rio got in big trouble last night. Hope he’s out of the dog house this morning. Poor guy…he was just trying to say “Wooo!!! I’m so happy to see you!”

Rio, not to worry my friend. Once Mom had spent hours getting just the right design of hundreds of little pieces of fabric on on this big black sticky wall (she calls it a design wall or something) and I had decided it was time for walkies. Well I came in to tell her and when she said yes I got so excited that my tail kind of knocked off all those pieces of fabric. Mom was not pleased – something about banning me from her studio in the future came up and I think I remember the phrase naughty but I kind of forget. Anyway it was a great walk! (PS now she knows to come out immediately and go for a walk – I trained her well!) Your friend Wookie

Wookie: We’ve all done it. The happy tail wag clearing the table in one fell swoop. The leaps of joy over the walk. Many a broken or damaged piece at our house too.

Wolfie: We are so looking forward to that pomegranate jelly!

    Rose: Our guy gets around!

    Good morning all.
Masquers- thank you for that gorgeous picture of the sunrise.

To all veterans – thank you for your service. You put your own life on hold, you left the comfort of family and home, you left the familiarity of your town or city or village in order to serve as protectors and defenders of not only this country, but of people who could not defend themselves. You carry the scars of battle, some visible, some indelibly etched on your heart.
You went to service as one person, you came home changed forever.
Your courage is beyond measure. Your sacrifice is incomprehensible to those who have not served.
But our gratitude is great. We honor all of you, those who came home, and those who did not. We make a solemn promise to you that we will never forget what you have done and we will try to ensure that this country lives up to the standard of duty you have set.
Welcome home veterans and thank you.

Okay, I’ll be BBL to read the post and the comments. About to do a Walk/Run with the Pack.

I have, hopefully, sent all the information on the Stormy Kromer 2012 Living Legend contest to the Plunderer’s email address.

Explanation, links, pictures and essay are there.

    Hope it worked. BBL

Good morning, y’all! Mom has been so busy this week, she’s been hogging the computer the whole time! I haven’t even been able to catch up on all the stuff you wrote while she was on vacation last week and nobody turned the computer on for me. Very frustrating! Hopefully my involutary silence will soon come to an end. Mom has been trying to write this year’s Christmas play, but it wasn’t coming together the way she wanted it to.

I wonder if Spence has ever had to worry about that kind of stuff, or if the books all come out just the way he wants them to? Does he agonize the way Mom does?

Anyway, in the last couple of days Mom finally figured out how to make it work, so she’s been staying up until all hours of the morning writing. She says she’s going to put the finishing touches today, and then I’ll be able to get on the computer more often. I hope!

Happy Veterans Day to all who serve or have served! We can’t express anything better than what’s already been posted so we’ll just say YES to all those thoughts.

Didn’t get to read or post yesterday so just caught up. SQ, loved the little bit of book 5!! Cannot wait for more!!

Melanie, we watch Unforgettable and have the episodes DVR’d. Don’t remember the scene but will go back and look for YSAS. How exciting for him. He seems to be getting alot of work now. His star is rising.

T&G, can’t imagine any type of project more impressive than what you currently do. Can’t wait to see pictures.

Off to Dishlickers to see Melanie’s thing for Snowhook! More later.

One more thing, think it was Bear that mentioned Happy Valley yesterday. Yes, not so happy over there. They need to clean house, get rid of everyone who turned their backs on those kids, IMO.

Bear, Barb is a strong Demo, so wouldn’t have voted for RP anyway, but have to say we feel sorry for the guy. It takes a lot of courage to keep smiling after such a humulating moment on national t.v. He is right when he says he stepped in it!

That is a great video! Sage is from NM and some of the appreciative citizens of this state have contributed to a fund to help pay for her medical care.

Thank you to all our veterans! T&G said it best so we won’t even try, but we want all of you to know how deeply we appreciate your service to this country.

  28. BARB & MAGGIE
    11:59 am on November 11th, 2011

  29. Kirby T. Penworthy
    12:11 pm on November 11th, 2011

T&G: Mom cried a little when she read what you wrote about veterans. I came after Dad’s Army time, but listening to some of the stories the family tells, I know there were lots of hard times. To this day, Mom can’t hear “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” without crying, because of the time Dad was in Somalia during Christmas. It’s even worse for military people and their families now, because there are so few of them and so many places they have to be that they’re gone even more than Dad was.

My dad got a package in the mail yesterday from Simon & Schuster, because he was one of the two winners of the Chet & Bernie library promotion that was announced a few days back. He got a complete set of the Chet & Bernie books (which means that grandpa can take one with him on his upcoming trip to St. Louis) and, for me, an official Chet & Bernie frisbee. Not sure how much I get to play with it though; right now it is hanging proudly on the wall of dad’s home office.
Oh, and BTW, Happy Veterans day to everyone, including grandpa, who was on a troop ship in the Pacific heading towards Japan when the war ended. The video was great too and timely here as my dad just got a copy of Thunder Dog, which is the story about Roselle’s heroics during 9/11. Wookie

Wookie: Congratulations! How high can you leap? High enough to snag that frisbee?! Mom just got Thunder Dog, too. It’s on hold for her at the library. The only problem is that there are about five other books waiting for her, too. What to read, what to read? She says everything would be O.K. if she didn’t have to go to work. 🙁 She likes her job, but it sure takes up a lot of valuable reading time. Oh, and by the way, she says to let everyone know that people who work in libraries don’t get to sit around reading all day!!!

Thank you Rose!! Mom will do it…she may not want to go into the Mall, but she will do it. I looked at it on Hallmark’s website …I’m not telling mom what it cost. You get a book with it and it interacts with you so she can’t expect it to be cheap, for cryin out loud.
That Hallmark Husky is going to have an animated special on the Hallmark Channel.

Congratulations to Wookie’s Dad! It is always the best when it is one of us that wins something. Woo Woo

Buddy and TC Aren’t you looking forward to Kat being away at school?

  48. BARB & MAGGIE
    2:21 pm on November 11th, 2011

Speaking of libraries, Barb has NEVER had an overdue book, not ever in her adult life anyway. Sooo, she looked at her Jackie Kennedy book with the 8 cd’s on Monday night, thinking it was almost due. It said Oct. 25th! She was completely unnerved, thinking how could this happen, was she loosing her marbles, racking her brain trying to figure out how it could be two weeks overdue. She couldn’t go in on Tues, due to hospital visit, so Wed. morning she scurried into the library. She told the lady that she didn’t mind paying the fine, but couldn’t believe she had the book for a whole month. Guess what – they had forgoten to stamp it and it was really due on Nov. 12th. Wow, was she happy!

  49. BearSpiritDog
    2:31 pm on November 11th, 2011

Barb&Magpie: Our little library on the Island doesn’t fine us for overdue books. Of course, that just makes the guilty party feel worse about their oversight, so they usually slip an extra five in the donation box. Pretty clever these librarians.
Kirby: Nana thinks your mom and the Catty Librarian have one of the best jobs. Of course if you don’t have time to read…..

    “give you” jeez…..

  53. BARB & MAGGIE
    2:49 pm on November 11th, 2011

Bear, Our library charges only .10 per day for an overdue fine, so even at 15 days, it would have been only $1.50. She was just upset to think her memory was that bad. She couldn’t believe it was the library’s mistake – that is sort of like a bank being wrong!

  54. Staff
    3:02 pm on November 11th, 2011

Good day to Wolfie, I haven’t seen you posting for a while. Hope all is OK with you.

Tee Hee Rose, I don’t think you will be able to wrest the quilt from Dawson’s grasp. I started hand stitching the binding on last night.

Wookie, Our Dad was half way across the Pacific on a troop ship when the bomb was dropped also. He spent some time in Korea before he got to come back.

Mom (Maggie) had a fun job in India training pilots to instrument fly with radar. They had to fly over the ‘hump’ of the Himalaya’s into Burma to support the troops there and without that brand new invention they were stuck on the ground in the fog. She has some beautiful but tiny photo’s of the Taj Mahal and other Indian sites. So both our parents are Vets, as is Mr.Staff.

Melanie: I just read the essay for the SK contest and I have “a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye” (Buffy St. Marie). It catches the essence of this giant of a man and his loving wife. The picture of Rebecca in her SK hat is wonderful. Surely they will be picked as one of the top ten.

Thanks Dawson. Let us not forget that this also The Royals’s Mum, Dr. B and Bella!
When I read it to Zoë, she cried.

    Okay, Bella . . .

The next time R has to go up to Fairbanks tell her to go to 4th and D Street and wave at the webcam! If we set up a time, perhaps we can all tune in and see her! That would be cool. I could also grab the picture.

    Let’s just make sure we have the correct corner . . . It follows . . .

Whoops, I tell you, Riö, it gets to a certain point of the day and my brain checks out . . . Dognation! That’s Anchorage. The beginning of the Iditarod. I guess you and your friend will have to wave at us from there in March!

Rose, Rose, Rose: The quilt will have armed personnel accompanying and guarding it the whole trip. Goats and other living things may be sacrificed if they threaten the safety of the quilt in any way. The only way you get a quilt is if you are a survivor of the torture Staff put her siblings through when we were young and vulnerable. Or their offspring.

So once again I have proven myself inept at tying bows.
I don’t know what it is about me and bows, but we don’t work well together.
Picture me all thumbs with my teeth biting my lower lip . . .
There’s a real reason why most of my gifts to people are wrapped in aluminum foil . . .

Sooo, those that have bought the Sled Dog Dreaming cards, please feel free to retie the snigglefritzing bows.

Also, when I got the cards I checked very carefully that the amount of cards was correct! I DIDN’T CHECK THE ENVELOPES. I’m out two. Good thing that last set hasn’t sold yet. I’m going to get some more tomorrow.

    TTFN all!
