Hermeneutics of the Red Zone Blitz

“Did you see this quote from Jerod Mayo?” Spence says.

“Better tell the people who he is,” Admin says.

“Jerod Mayo is a linebacker for the New England Patriots,” Spence says. “He’s the defensive captain, the one with the green sticker on the helmet, meaning he hears transmitted instructions from the sidelines. Anyway, here’s what he says about playing in big games, like the one on Sunday: ‘Child-like joy. It’s all about child-like joy. Last night felt like the day before Christmas for me and I haven’t had that feeling in a long time.’

“So you’re going to tell me that it’s the childhood aspect to sports that draws the fans?” Admin says.

“Something like that,” Spence says. “And that’s why so many people envy the players and would like to be them. At some level the players never had to grow up, never had to lose something child-like in them in order to succeed – or simply survive – in life.”

“Uh-huh,” says Admin. “So enough with the deep thoughts. Who you got in the Super Bowl?”

Good morning Chet, Spence, Admin and all,

Looks like Macy checked in last night after we went to bed. Good luck with all those tests and the 3 week job.

Barb is going out to do chores, sans moi. She says no frolicking today. I am feeling better, but still look a little dazed. My tummy hurts where they fixed my hernia and they shaved me down there, so all my underbits are showing. Also makes it a little chilly outside.

Barb is off to the dentist shortly. Trying a second time for her cleaning appointment. Her mouth is still not totally healed from where she bit thru her lower lip in her slip and slide, but she says she can handle the cleaning.

Happy January 24th, hope all weather conditions are calm ytoday!

    Perhaps I’ve never felt “child-like.”

    Good morning all.

I’m going to a new allergist this afternoon to have breathing tests.

Interesting!… Those football players are so big and scary looking that it’s hard to imagine them feeling “child-like”…sniff!… I always thought they probably felt like Roman soldiers going into battle…grunt!

Angle!… Here’s another angle or way to look at it….snort!…Take the Iditarod for example. We here will all be rooting for AJ the Giant and his A-Team to do well in this race. It will bring a true sense of joy and excitement to each of us as we watch this race because we will feel part of it. …wheeze!… You can’t tell me the Iditarod is not a sporting event…heh!heh!

“child- like”? Hmmm. We’re not saying a word…..

Except “hermeneutics”???(the theory and methodology of interpretation) – now Spence is just showing off

    10:35 am on January 24th, 2012

Yes the Iditarod would be considered a sporting event. Nothing wrong with sports.
Most sports don’t have the extreme overpayments attached as football, baseball and basketball. Sorry, but no matter how good a guy is, I don’t get the 25-50 mil that he gets on a contract. It is just out of line. I think that is one of the points Amalia was trying to make.

I sort of agree Chet’s post today but I don’t want to be a baseball player or a football player.

Yawning here. Just as mom was about to turn off the computer last night, she saw the enticing invitation from Abbie. Her hand pausing in mid-air, she sat down again and began the Small Quilt Abbie Puzzle. Hurrah! She completed it, and in only twice the time it takes the average person.
Macy: If your mom set a record for the puzzle, she should have no problems with any tests the agency will toss her way. Paws crossed.
    Good Luck to her!

Since people are bringing up the pay of sports players (I agree, it can be outrageous) let’s add to that what some actors get paid. There is a lot more work and chance of injury in playing baseball or football than acting.

  10. Riö – The Evil Pug
    11:15 am on January 24th, 2012

Economics!….It’s all based on supply and demand…grunt!… Not that many people can play sports at the Pro level. Not that many people can make acting look natural. …sneeze!…If the demand were not there the salaries would go down….sniff!….Too bad this does not translate to our Teachers.…wuffle!

  11. Melanie
    11:18 am on January 24th, 2012

Yes, Siber-H, that’s “some” actors. Then there are all the rest who might enjoy earning a living, if the star names took a bit less! Hmmm, do I have someone in mind? snicker.

Abbie’s puzzle is marked but not tried. Things have come up. First the printer was out of ink. Then Zoë asked me something else on the assessment of the house, and I noticed (4 time thru) that somehow they have us with an extra 900 square feet!
So I have to write that up for a meeting on Friday.

That is besides the errors we found the other day.

Working on that, working for YSAS, another day at River Bear!

B: Is the allergy problem something new?

Melanie: The Assessor didn’t do a very good job on your house. It’s a problem to have to continually double check data that a supposed professional has collected.

Rio: It may have something to do with taxes.

    Big Boys!
Personally, I think a good percentage of the men have not grown up and never will. What a lucky thing that they get to play as work and get paid a zillion dollars to do so. I do think they should be taxed at about (60,70, 80, 90) percent + with no deductions.
When I lived in Montana a pro footballer lived there and organized a charity. To earn money they had all kinds of events. He brought in all his buddies and they offered themselves as sleds for kids to ride down the ski hill on. Big and little kids.

Bear: I’ve had the allergy problem for about a year and I’ve been on medication. The problem lately has been waking in the middle of the night and having difficulty breathing. Blast!

Thank you for the reference to teachers Rio.

As to the post above Rio’s – that’s why we get moderated for s-h-o-e-s, p-h-a-r-m-a-c-y, and all that gamboling that Dawson does. Otherwise, we would be so swamped with spam the blog would become unusable.

Quitting for awhile. I’m doing better today. But I forget how tiring pain can be …

MollyPop’s Mom has a valid point. A while back when we were attempting to post a link for coffee information, we were moderated because it had to do with sales.
Where did this duffas come from anyway. Rio, good idea to remove it before someone inadvertently clicks on the link.

B: Nana sometimes has to use an albuterol inhaler for breathing problems, which can become worse in winter. She is particularly allergic to dust and in the colder months with the house closed up and no fresh air circulating, it is intensified. Someone has suggested an air purifier, which she plans to look into.

Melanie: Take a breather with a nice cup of hot cocoa. Sounds good to me!

    I FIGURED It OUT!

And with not much of a brain. Riö, not selling the house. The tax assessment was MUCH bigger than it was a year ago. We had the assessor come back a couple of weeks ago, and he did make some changes. LIke our basement in part of the house is now called a crawlspace (yes, that is assessed at a different rate) and what had been said to be a Finished Room was actually a shed. It is now a service porch. All very useful.

Zoë was asking me to look at something else when I noticed the math wasn’t adding up. Took me almost all morning, but the computer had added over 1000 square feet to our house! Imagine that!

We have an appointment with the town officials on Friday.

BearSpiritDog, ended up having a Honeybell from some orchard. WOW, delis.

Allergies: As one who has many … I have a special type of screen that keeps a lot of the allergens out in the Spring and Summer. So I thought “Why not put it over the hot air vent in my bedroom?” Much easier sleeping now.

Wish I could do it for the whole house. In fact. where ever that computer came up with that extra square footage maybe I could put a really big air purifier?

B.Stover: I was leafing thru the Hammer Slammer (Hammacher Schlemmer) catalog and found this. “The Filterless Air Purifier”. If it didn’t cost almost 300 I would get it. Looks easy to clean, no filters and no ozone.

Have printed out a recipe for Peanut Sauce. Will be making that a bit later and put on some rice. Right now it’s time for some music and reading NB’s “The Rope”.

Melanie, the Polenta (corn meal mush) that Barb made is strictly corn, so you could have it.

We are defrosting a big smoked ham hock from our pork order. Tomorrow morning Barb is going to make a pot of split pea and ham soup. Yum!

Maltese is a dog that is smart, cuddly, and very playful. They don’t shed and so need brushing. They weigh 6 – 8 pounds and must be protected from hawks and barn owls.

Rio, Is that some sort of freudian slip, always calling them bowels? Ummm.

We saw saw Mollie, a Black Poodle up on top. She hasn’t been heard from in a long time, has she?

Well, we are going to go get cozy on the sofa since our favorite POTUS is coming on to speak (or perhaps sing?) in a few minutes.

SiberH: I will send you the link via SDD when I find it so you can watch the show online. I think between the two of us we can provide the blog with sufficient updates, or we will just make it up as we go along 😉

    10:32 pm on January 24th, 2012

    Ok, Thanks, Rio
I don’t want them to disappear either and they won’t, but isn’t the triangle thing suppose to be over the ocean…the Bering Sea, instead of land?

Hey, y’all! I’m a little late tonight because Mom just got home from Dad’s basketball game — and his team just won their first game this season! Yippee!!! We were getting a little worried because they’ve been playing lots of bigger, ranked teams up until now, and the least they’ve lot by was 31 :( so it’s a big relief that the guys finally won tonight.

  92. Kirby T. Penworthy
    10:40 pm on January 24th, 2012

The least they’ve LOST by, not lot. Sheesh — I think it’s time to clip my claws just like we were discussing yesterday! Just kidding!!!! Never is soon enough for me!!!

Siber-threats?? The only thing our dear Siber threatens is to dig another hole, or fix his famous chicken dish.

Rio – do you suppose we can buy a one way ticket for the CL to go to the Alaskan triangle? We would even be willing to send two other folks – didn’t you say 1 out of every 3 people never return?

    10:53 pm on January 24th, 2012

Whoa!…Kirby! 31 points?…snort!… That could become daunting at some point…sniff!…I’m so glad your Paws guys pulled it off tonight and won the game. This will build their confidense and maybe they will continue to beat the Giants…grunt!Woooo!

Not too many out there tonight. Glad Rebecca showed up. Now let’s hear fom Rose.

We thought the speech was pretty uplifting and positive, but then we like him, so not exactly a neutral opinion.

Time for our beddy bye. All y’all (as Kirby, Macy or
Mr. Redbone might say), have a good night!

Tupper!…I’m totally sure I got that statistic wrong…heh!…It might be more than 1 in four…sniff!..Ask SiberH or Rebeccer after they watch the show for the correct statistic on missing persons. I know it is higher than anywhere else..grunt!

Well – it worth a thought.

Saying g’night to everyone. Tomorrow is errand/shopping day, and we need a very early start to get it all done.

Well, The more people that we don’t like and send out to the Alaska Triangle, the more people we will be rid of.

Mom says I have to turn in because I am getting goofy.

    Night All

SiberH! …And Rebeccea!…The title of the Episode is Devils Graveyard…sniff!…This might help you find it…heh!

Goodnight!….Someone is tired and she still has to peel Beau off of her lap…grunt!…How in the hell does he sneak up there every night? That’s what I want to know…grump!

    11:28 pm on January 24th, 2012

Thanks! Although 31 was the closest they got until tonight, I think the most they lost by was way more — maybe in the 50s? I’m not real good with numbers — but in this case, that’s a good thing!

Mom has been reading some of the “Look Inside” offerings on Amazon for the Edgar nominees — looks like there’re some good books out there she missed. She’s already adding some of them to her already-too-long list of books she wants to read. So now she wants to know:
Bee: Is retirement a good time to read all the books you want to read? Or are you finding so much other stuff to do that you haven’t gotten around to that yet? Mom’s gonna be 54 in a week or so, so she figures she’ll save enough money to retire in maybe 30 or 40 years!

We’ll, I’m gonna say goodnight, too. My girl is trying to sleep and I’m sure the light isn’t helping! Just three more days until she moves out. Sigh. I’ll miss her. Those Girls, on the other hand…better stop before I say something not-nice!

    Goodnight, y’all!

One more baseball item: Prince Fielder agreed (in principle) to a nine-year 114 Million dollar deal with the Detroit Tigers!

Rio: You don’t get to vote against Obama. You have to vote for someone. That’s the hard part. (Please, no more Newt!)

Woo and hoo! The first picture to be carried in AJs sled arrived today. The Howlers are Nome bound!

Dawson: I am glad you finally recieved the calendar. Hope you like it!

    KirbyT: Congrats on the win!

    Night all.
