Help!

Admin has to go on Cape Cod and Islands NPR Nov. 26 and discuss mysteries (let’s say crime fiction in general). The show is The Point, with Mindy Todd, 9-10 AM. Any recommendations?

Good morning OH and everyone! We recommend a good night’s sleep before The Point and relax in the NPR studio.

    Good morning all.
We are pretty sure that the radio interviewer will have good leading questions.

But that said, we would like to know why most crime mysteries have the obligatory chapter of jeopardy. You know what we mean – Chet is always in a bad situation once in every book. Most modern fictional detectives we read have the chapter near the end where there is confrontation with the killer and the detective is in peril. Why is it such a regular device? Papa Poirot was never kidnapped and had to kickbox his way out. Miss Marple never had to wrestle the gun from the bad guy, and spend days nursing a black eye.

I suppose we are just very old fashioned and non-violent, but we are just wondering…

Tupper’s Mama, being “G” rated doesn’t mean childish or boring!

How does the mystery writer mislead the reader until the mystery is solved by the detective? Clues are given. For example, in Silver Blaze Holmes mentions the “curious incident of the dog in the night-time.” Captain Gregory says, “The dog did nothing in the night-time.” And Holmes responds, “That was the curious incident.” That clue didn’t help me solve the mystery but it gives the solution.

Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is probably one of the best examples of “hidden” clues.

    Good morning all.

Good morning all. We like Elliott’s idea about naming the kitties after authors. The list is endless.

Sam, you make a good looking FOD!

We have nothing intelligent to add to the discussion above, so we will be quiet on the subject.

Barb is dressed for the day in a sweatshirt with pine cones and bird on it. She is also sporting her darling snowflake earrings. She is ready for the weekend snow.

Kat, Hawks are looking for little animals, maybe a little fluffy white dog. They would figure she’s a bunny and would be delicious. But no hawk would go after something in hot pink with polkadots.

Congrats to FOD Sammie…Quite Stunning in her Hawk-proof vest.

FOD…speaking of which…when looking to see who were the past Friends of the Day we came across 3 Photos C.Hobbit had posted of the new kitties in her care.
One was named Stripe, then there were the Seal Point Twins and the final kitty posing nicely for the camera.

Congratulations to our FOD…our very own movie Princess.

I would not trust the pink dress to be hawk proof. A hawk’s brain is, above all else, programmed to see movement. That’s how they hunt.

Thanks Rio…Good news about the radio program.

Good question about the Hawk. I don’t think an adult hawk will attack another adult hawk, but if a little doggy is walking around on the ground in a hawk suit, the hunter hawk will not see the hawk suit. It will only see movement.

We have lots of hawks around here and they often set in lower tree branches in my backyard and eat their kills. The fact that I am watching them doesn’t bother them at all, but mom drags me in the house because she doesn’t want me eating all the raw garbage the hawks drop. Hawks are messy eaters. Mom picks up their trash because of me. Otherwise, she would leave it for the ants or whatever.

The name game continues. It turns out that if a name has been used before on the website, it can’t be used again for at least a year. That has eliminated a few of my names. Maybe I can get by using a prefix or suffix attached.

Question for dog owners: how much dog poop is to be expected? I take Sadie for 3 walks/day and she usually makes a mess each time (which I pick up). If it is a long walk, she can go twice. She also makes a mess or two everyday in the dog yard. That seems like a bit much for one dog. When I lived rurally and let the dogs run free, I wasn’t paying a lot of attention. The dog yard was bad but that was expected with two dogs. I can’t image cleaning up after 50 dogs. Yeep! I wonder what Snowhook does with all the crap?

We here are usually responsible for two each per day. Although Lucy never, ever has missed pooping on a walk. So sometimes I think she will do three in a day.

  43. Siber-H
    4:43 pm on November 14th, 2014

CHobbit, As long as Sadie’s poop is normal in form, I wouldn’t worry about it.

You must be feeding her a dog food that is high in fiber.

Very good question…What does Snowhook do with all their dog poop?

Creator – we thank you for this day, for the song of the wind in the trees, for the clean white snow tucking the earth in to sleep, for the sight of birds against the sky, for all the gifts we have in our lives each and every day.

Creator – as the time of the resting earth comes to pass, we ask you to bring rest and peace also to our hearts. Slowly, gently, the earth settles herself, quietly gathering the memories of the year, preparing for the next. Let us also have this time to settle into peace and harmony, gathering our strength for the challenges to come.

Creator – we are a family, a family of choice. We reach our for each other, we support each other, we laugh and work and share joys together.

We ask you to watch over this family, in its many scattered parts. We ask you to spread your loving hands from the west coast to the east, from the top of the world to the land down under. Lift all of our hearts to the joys we have, and away from all hurts and concerns that weigh us down.

Creator – you have brought all of us together, and each of us brings a strength to the quilt we have become. When our seams become frayed, help us to stitch our colors back together; when we are worn and rumpled, help us to be cleansed and refreshed. For our work is not yet done – there are hearts to warm, weary souls to comfort and tired bodies to be protected. We ask you to give us the guidance to continue in this great project of humanity and friendship.

Creator – we thank you for this day, for the song of the wind in the trees, for the clean white snow tucking the earth in to sleep, for the sight of birds against the sky and for all this wonderful family that we have every day, for this too is a wonderful gift.
