Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Plunderers, all readers of this blog, and everyone who has been reading the stories about me and Bernie. Also to anyone who cares about the nation within the nation.

Right now we’re up and doing, Bernie, me, Suzie. We’ve all got our individual jobs. Mine is security. A squirrel invaded the yard but I handled that and now everything’s quiet. Soon Rick Torres is coming, bringing some kids from a homeless shelter, and we’ll be playing football. Touch football, which means no tackling. I had a hard time remembering that last year, but I know I’ll do much better today.

The only bad thing is we don’t have Charlie this year. He, Leda, and Malcolm are headed down to Cabo. Except, whoa, what’s this I see out the window? Leda driving up? With Charlie beside her? And no Malcolm?  So therefore? I don’t know. Bernie handles the so therefores. That’s part of the reason for the success of the Little Detective Agency.

Cheers, everybody!

Please note: Mike Baker will be running some tests on the blog over the holiday.

I am happy for Chet and Charlie, not so sure about Susie and Leda!

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Loved ALL the stories. Zoë says we have some left-over Wonder-Fluff if Sam needs it. It's older than she is. We put it on Ellie once before a show. She looked like a Chow.

I'm reading stories from yesterday to Zoë all day. She's really tired. Dan on the other hand was DETERMINED to take a shower with no help. That didn't work, so he wanted me to get Zoë. I said no, what did he need?

I'm thinking duct tape for the day.

If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, "thank you," that would suffice. ~Meister Eckhart

Gratitude for PSQA and his talent (and for Mrs. PSQA saying: you could write about a dog) and for the Plunderers' laughter and friendship.

    Happy Thanksgiving, Everybody.

OMG! Mollypop's mom is at eight million on Bookworm!! Celebration!

Staff: The versification form of Macy's poem is called rhyming couplets.

Hey Bluecat! Have a great day.

Melanie: Are you going to keep Dan down with the duct tape? He should write a thanksgiving story for us….while he's sitting down and staying quiet.

Greetings from Chevy Chase and wishing everyone a very happy Thanksgiving. Be thankful for all our blessings and all the care, friendship and goodwill we share with one another here on the blog. Special Thanksgiving prayers for everyone in need, and especially little Buford, we are still pulling for you. Mom is very organized, so nearly everything is already done except for tom-tom himself and a few sides that can be made at the last minute. We may even watch a Christmas movie or two –our favorites include It's A Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol (the Alastair Sim version), Miracle on 34th Street (original) and Christmas in Connecticut (a lesser known one with Barbara Stanwyck but really great). And a special thank you to SQ/PA, Admin, Mike Baker, Bernie and Chet and the rest of the crew (including Charlie, although I hope that Malcolm has not strayed from the straight and narrow again) who make us laugh and smile and brought us all together. Happy Thanksgiving all you plunderers and lurkers too. I am thankful for all my friends. Especially you and the crew that makes this all possible.

I wonder where Astrid and Col. Bob are spending Thanksgiving?

    Test Test, Hello Mike Baker.

Hmmmm, No Malcolm. I wonder if this has something to do with #4? I don't particularly like Leda, but I wouldn't want anyone to marry Malcolm. Money is so not everything.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Wookie has said it all so eloquently, as usual. We have many, many things to be thankful for this year. Family, good friends and health. The members of the blog have added a special dimension to our lives over the past year. We feel such a close connection to you all. Thank you for your prayers and friendship, as well as a daily dose of humor.

Glad Charlie showed up, but where is Malcolm? Don't really like that guy. Leda has questionable taste in men – doesn't like Bernie, likes Malcolm? Go figure!

Thanksgiving!….Woooo! It’s finally here!…snort!…I’ve waited all week long for this day!…snieeze!…We have a job to do too. We have to get grandma out of jail and somehow get her into the car with her oxygen tanks…grunt!… Thankfully there is no ice or snow on the sidewalks today. It’s just very, very cold – in the low teens….yeep!

Parade!….That hasn’t started yet …snort!…I bet Molly and Wookie are watching it though….grunt!…Maybe Astrid will be spotted in the parade…heh!

Loved Macy's poem from last night. Hope Buford is doing better, or at least comfortable today.

Staff, Barb says she is not sure about the cranberry-horseradish combo. Must be an acquired taste! Her Mom's traditional cranberry salad had fresh ground cranberries, ground apples, sugar and raspberry jello. Back in the day before food processors it was a big deal, with the grinder screwed to the counter and cranberries and apples fed thru by hand. Everyone helped. Good memories go with that salad!

Food!….She’s out there in the kitchen whipping up her signature dish, Cottage Cheese ala Green Onion ….grunt!…For special occasions like Thanksgiving she actually dumps the cottage cheese out of the carton into a fancy dish. For that real special touch she cuts up green onion and adds it to the cottage cheese. Then just a dash or two of pepper, and whaalaa!…Now we have a burnt pumpkin pie and that cottage cheese dish to take over for the big dinner…wheeze!

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.

In Montana, there was always the Turkey Bowl, where the men went to play football while the women cooked. Those were the days.

Ohoh, Here comes Staff, wearing her apron. I may be put to work, although Wookie is right, most of the hard work has already been done.

I'm very thankful for the Chet the Dog Blog and all you Plunderers and Lurkers. Thinking also of the homeless, especially veterans and the 4 leggeds who have served this country.

Anyone showing up at the door will be fed.

Melanie: Tell Dan I am so loving "For the Love of Puppies" and OTAS that the drawings convey the personalities and the exuberance of the Newfs. They are a joy to behold.

Her mother has it all under control now, but sounded teary eyed on the phone….sigh…So it begins. I sure hope grandma is feeling okay….grunt!…My friend says we will be taking a big scarf to wrap around grandmas ears….wheeze!…Grandma won’t like that because it will “mess up” her hair, what little she has left anyway…heh!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Turkey day has finally arrived!!!

Charlie gets to spend the holiday with Chet and Bernie! It doesn't get any better than that.

We got a trace of snow last night…that would be trace in very small letters. The huge mountain that looms over Albuquerque was covered in snow this morning, but it is quickly disappearing even though it is COLD here. I don't understand this.

As mom said, guests will be arriving shortly, and I am ready to meet and greet. Mom and I decided to go with the plaid bow tie for today — pretty colors and a bit less formal than my black tie look (that gets saved for our Christmas Party in two weeks). Aunt Julie (not a real aunt, but you know) arrived early to help; I always greet her very specially with extra tail wags, which she seems to appreciate. I'll check back in later in the evening. Happy Thanksgiving,y'all! We are grateful we're all here together — Mom, Dad, my boy, my girl, Buford, Bubbie and Possum (the kats) and me. This afternoon Mom and my girl went to see the new Harry Potter movie — a longstanding tradition that had to wait until my girl got home from college — and then we had something called a relish tray, only I didn't see any relish on the tray anywhere. So we're eating turkey in a little while. (It would have been earlier, only Dad — the math teacher! — figured the cooking time wrong, and Mom didn't catch it in time!) At least I hope I'll be eating turkey — I'm not so sure about Mom, but I'm pretty sure Dad will share with me! Although even Mom breaks down and slips me some goodies if I stare at her hard enough!!!

Anyway, a very happy Thanksgiving to all on the blog and beyond!

Which is unusual because this second cousin typically under-cooks her pies and they are terrible…snort!…This year that cousin paid a prize winning pie maker to make two amazing pies…wheeze!…So my friends pie did not stand a chance today…heh!…I think only her and grandma ate the cottage cheese…snuffle!

Siber-H's report to Rio: Went to the dog park this morning. It was so cold that me and Molly (the Husky) were able to play a lot of chase games. Mom went and had dinner with dad. She says it was better than she expected it to be and dad sent me home some turkey with her. I got to go back to the dog park this afternoon in celebration of the holiday and the weather. (I'm the one celebrating the weather.) Tomorrow, Molly's mom is bringing us Thanksgiving leftovers. We are thankful that Molly's mom loves to cook. She is always giving us good stuff.

Do the movies follow the books pretty closely?

  41. Kirby T. Penworthy
    3:07 pm on November 25th, 2010

Bee: My boy went to see the movie the first day it came out, and he came home and reported it was dark — both in tone and cinematography — and Mom and my girl both agreed. It definitely doesn't have as many light-hearted moments as the earlier movies did, although there are a few. It's been awhile since Mom and my girl read the last book — back when it first came out — so they had forgotten a lot of the details and some things caught them by surprise. But even when they knew what was coming, it still scared them! And with the second half due out next year, it ended with a definite cliffhanger! Mom and my girl can't wait to see the next one!!! My girl even made Mom stop on the way home at a store that was open to see if they had the book. They did, so she's rereading it right now!

  48. Kirby T. Penworthy
    3:30 pm on November 25th, 2010

The Potter books do have a lot more detail, but given their length, some of that detail had to be left out. I think the directors have done a pretty good job of doing the films and staying true to the books. I am glad they decided to divide the last book in half — trying to fit that whole book into one movie would have required leaving way too much out! I just wish I could have seen it with Mom and my girl, but they wouldn't take me to the theater with them!

I don't know if anyone has read any of the Percy Jackson books, but that is one movie that had Mom yelling at the screen because it was so different from the book. Luckily, she was watching it on DVD!!!

There is another card game going on now and Staff, Turtleman and his wife, Dad and the brother from Chicago (Kit, who took the picture of the cooks, all wearing aprons made by Staff) are playing. Anymore than 6 and the game takes too long so I'm sitting out.

The dinner was a success and we fed 11 people not including the Kats. It was going to be 13 but the two vegetarians did not make it. Turkey, Sausage and Wild Rice Stuffing, Broccoli Salad, Apple and Sweet Potato Casserole, Mashed Potatoes and Squash with Roasted Garlic, Giblet Gravy and all the Cranberry Sauces were on the menu. Add then the desserts – our tummies are full and several naps were taken by those not in the first card game.

Well, the food is eaten and the kitchen is clean — except for those two plates Mom and Dad missed! Well, I knew about one of them, but it was too high for me to reach! Anyway, I'm going to say goodnight to y'all, and another Happy Thanksgiving — and almost Thanksgiving to Liz.

Please say more prayers for Buford. His appointment is in the morning, and I don't think we're going to hear good news.

    G'night!

Whew! We are back inside and completely frozen I might add. I did get to come in for a little while by acting like I was having trouble breathing, but I got better to fast after I was let back in so they figured out my ploy and sent me back into the figurative blizzard.

Really, we were better off out of the way of all the feet. There were so many people, most of whom I have never met. Our aunt and uncle from Alaska were here and our uncle from central Texas. It was the first time grandma had been with her sister and brother at Thanksgiving in 40 years, or 280 dog years!

Dad cooked a delish turkey which he thoughtfully came out to let us sample. As I mentioned yesterday, Mom actually knows how to cook. I have lived here nearly 2 years and this is first time I have seen this miracle. The stuffing was ok, and the gravy….just fill my bowl with that and I will go to bed happy!

Happy warm thoughts and full tummies to you all.

Dear Lord above, creator of all creatures great and small. Thank you for the bountiful feasts we have all celebrated today in a spirit of Thanksgiving and for looking out for all of us in our day-to-day travails. We offer a special prayer tonight for one among us in his time of greatest need, that is our special friend Buford, whom we care about deeply and for whom we ask only your love, compassion and mercy. Wookie

KIrby. the guy who wrote the Percy Jackson books (RIck Riordan) was a very good mystery writer before he started doing the Percy Jackson stuff, crossing over to a young adult motif (kind of like someone else we know). His mysteries were all set in Texas and are very well written.

The guests are all still here, although dinner is done but I thought I would sneak away to be with my friends on the blog for a minute. Sounds like everyone is having a good Thanksgiving. Bless you all.
