For those of you like ML and Wose, here is another good shot of how to rock the carrot. This video shows paw action which is hard to capture on video. Lie on your stomach, gently grip the carrot with your teeth, and lift each front paw in turn. Left up, left down, right up, right down.

A day to remember all the lives lost to the tragedy of war. Young men and women who gave first their heart to their country, then their lives. A day to think about and honor the dogs and horses who served their humans faithfully until death.
By remembering the sorrow caused by war, maybe humans will learn from history, and refrain from starting wars in the future.
That is our prayer for the day. We will always remember the fallen, but let there be no more names and graves added by war.

Good morning, MPM, Rio and everyone! The carrot video is an excellent demonstration πŸ™‚ We missed a lot on the blog yesterday so really good thoughts and dainty and sloppy licks going out to ML and Wose. The Peeps has 16 two leggers and 1 four legger here yesterday. We had a big pack! We also didn’t have to beg, no we did not. The 8 and 10 year old guests got into the hot dogs and shared them with us until some adult caught them πŸ™ But no matter, a couple of burgers almost hit the ground but around here the rule is: there is no 5 second rule with 2 second dogs.
Today will remember all those who have served our country. Have a memorial Memorial Monday πŸ™‚

    Greetings!

First, let me take a moment to salute the men, women, and four-leggeds who have served this country, and those to continue to do so.

Sam looks like a brave and faithful dog. I would love to have him on my security detail.

Molly’s Mom, thank you for the most excellent video demonstration.

RIO! Did you get your On Demand back? If so, please do not say anything about MAD MEN!!!

Rose: With the broken tv, he probably hasn’t watched it yet.
We recorded it last night, but haven’t seen it either.
RiΓΆ: Speaking of which…if your friend buys a new flat screen TV you’ll be able to get Neflix and maybe watch House of Cards?

    11:21 am on May 26th, 2014

Masquers – we watched the British version of House of Cards. It was creepy and shivery and really good. They call it a trilogy, but there are actually 12 or so hour long episodes. We watched the whole thing in just a few nights because it was addictive.
Although we haven’t seen the Spacey version yet, we think British versions are often more sinister, relying on psychology rather than on blood and graphic violence.

    Good day all.
Rio: is your friend going to buy a new TV today?

There is a kiosk at a mall where a guy makes things out of pipe cleaners. I have purchased a few things by him. Yesterday I asked if he could make me a husky dog and ordered three. I think he did a pretty good job…I had him make one of each coloring

Don’t know about y’all, but we here feel like we missed something going from last season to this one.
T&G: The British version sounds very good. The one starring Kevin Spacey is excellent also. It is one of the best shows we have seen in a long time.
    CHobbiti: Very clever!

Both of the husky pics are great.

Thanks, Amalia, for the eloquent words regarding Memorial Day. You said it all.

Quiet day here, did a little grass cutting, now a little nap.

Here is a shot of one of the two gardens. The tomato bed is the other one, and not much exciting going on there yet, although 5 of the 8 plants have blossoms already.

HOH, I hate that I get the puns. no pun intendid, gah!.

My friend has come and gone. Things were stacked, things were cleaned, things were done away with. Can I tell any difference. Very little, very little indeed. However, the table next to me here has been de-furred and polished. Who knew that some people actually like to clean? I found a bunch more thumb drives upstairs, so more stuff to go through. Never ever ending. How can I even think about moving if I can’t get rid of a ton or two of stuff?

DVD!…Someone here had to break open the dvd player in my dead TV with a screwdriver….groan!…It didn’t sound very good, but at least she got Juno out safe and sound…sniff!…Since the flat screens do not have built-in dvd players she dug out her old player. There is a place in town that will deliver the new TV, set it up and hookup the dvd player AND take the old heavy TV away. I’m not sure how much they charge to do all this, but I am sure it is more than Beau makes betting on the horses…wheeze!

    2:11 pm on May 26th, 2014

ML, Siber’s advice is very good. Maybe like Rose, you could write down a goal each day. For instance, get rid of old paint cans, clean and organize under the sink, take 2 boxes to the thrift store, etc. Make the goals small so as to not overwhelm yourself. As you see each goal checked off, it will be a weight lifted. As you know, Barb moved in 2012, after just 6 years. 25 years is huge, but you have friends and family. Don’t hesitate to call them for help.

Thanks to all Veterans and their families on this day and everyday.

ML: Worry not! I’ve only been in this house for 13 years and it is out of hand already!
Also, regarding CHobbit’s House: It is more of an Live in Art Gallery/Museum than a house! Nobody but CHobbit has such wonderfully arranged art adorning every surface, hiding in every nook and corner of the Hotel.
I have heard that after the sudden death of your husband, you should not make any life changing decisions for one year, if you can avoid it. Presumably because you aren’t thinking normally. This would give you time to methodically go through your house and sell, give away or discard items and to make sure this is what you want to do without rushing into it.

Puns: I do not always understand them. I think I may have missed a few altogether. I looked at the 3 pictures of the Huskies and thought, “That is not very funny, what am I missing?” But it was not until I left and came back and looked at it again that I finally saw it. Tentacles! Palm hitting forehead. Duh.

CHobbit: Love the pipecleaner Huskies! I wonder where in your museum/art gallery you will put them?

ML, We have heard the same thing about not making any major changes for 1 year. Can you do that? I think it is sound advice.

Dawson, Don’t feel bad, we didn’t get the husky picture either. Barb kept looking at it, thinking that stuffed animal is a dog, not an octopus! And Octopus have 8 legs, not ten. Duh!

  47. Siber-H

  49. c.hobbit
    2:55 pm on May 26th, 2014

Dawson: thank you for your lovely comments. I am not sure where I am going to put the 3 huskies (and I am considering having more made plus a pipe cleaner dog sled so then I will have a dog team!)

ML: remember that it took me months to organize, sort and clean out my old place before I listed it for sale and moved. I gave away tons of stuff to friends, the women’s shelter–and a lot of stuff was donated to someone else who was going to have a yard sale [I found out long ago that yard sales weren’t my thing]. And I did still move some things I shouldn’t have. I have way too much kitchenware, bakeware and dishes that I don’t use but don’t feel I should part with. It helps to have a deadline. Pick a month by which you want everything done and then plug away.

I know that you have made progress so even if you can’t see it yet, At some point you will turn the corner and more and more space will appear where once there was stuff and clutter. My deck painting project was huge and daunting but I kept at it and then it started looking nice.

One of the best organizing tips that I have read is “if it doesn’t make you happy, get rid of it.” Make sure you ask your daughters to take things that they want–or pick some weekends where you can all work together and then treat yourself to a nice meal or something. Plan on making a photo album of sentimental things that you need to get rid of but still appreciate the memory. Also, you will have days when it is easy to make decisions about what to keep and what to get rid of. On other days, it will seem that you can’t make any decisions at all–on those days, do other things as it will be a losing battle. Making a daily, realistic “to do” list is great. Don’t do everything at once, break things down to small doses.

If it helps, let us know daily what you accomplished from your list. And first up: take care of yourself!

Excellent advice from Hobbit. We like the part about, if it doesn’t make you happy, get rid of it.

If you are going thru things, make a pile of 1. definitely keep, 2. definitely throw out, 3. pass on to another family member, and 4. a maybe pile if you aren’t sure.

Ok, so far today….Friend came over and we sorted more of Rick’s tools and stuff. Made 2 new garage sale boxes and another book store sale bag. Repotted two plants that were sent for Rick. Hacked away at the trees outside that had sucker branches. Washed the lettuce that has been sitting in the fridge for nearly a week. All this after a week of doing basically nothing. Biggest thing, asked this morning’s friend to put out feelers to see if I can get help to do garage sale in three weeks. There is so much that I will no doubt have to do another one in the fall, but it would be mentally refreshing to offload some stuff now, now, now.

Tomorrow I have to go to probate court. It should take longer to get there than the proceedings. My mom is going with me, so we will probably eat somewhere in Fort Worth, most likely Rick’s favorite place, an old fashioned coffee shop/diner, with homemade pie. Ummmm pie.

The newspapers all reported about him but they always mentioned how short he was. Funny how that doesn’t get mentioned anymore.
