Happy Independence Day!

“Red Sox tickets?” says Spence.

“Yup,” says Admin.

“Who’s all going?”

“Me, Seth, Ben and Lisa.”

“Have fun.”

“Fun?” says Admin.

“Look it up,” says Spence.

Welcome Matti from VA, General Ike, Dude with beautiful eyes, who may be Evis from Denver. If not – Evis, please retry.

And the auction continues!

Good morning and Happy Fourth! Have a great day at the ball park. Where is Rosie today? Is she joining the family at home? Assuming she is back in the states.

Got up super early this morning and placed a bid. Trying to keep ahead of Dawson on those Hot Dog hot pads. Some of the items are beyond our budget already. Dagnabit!

Sam is right. Bear is going to have a very short month. We liked Buddy-Boy, but he is overdue to skidattle!

Has anyone tried our soon-to-be-famous potato salad yet?

    Happy Birthday, America!

    Love the picture, Melanie.

We have not yet tried the very famous potato salad but we hope to soon. Today looks like our same-old lay around lazy kind of day. Our favorite kind. Its hot and humid already. Pop’s on call so he said we can’t go to fireworks tonite. O well…we are happy here when everyone is together. Oops sorry Buddy…we’ll be with you when the heat gets to us and we have to come inside.

Moving! Rio, I wish everyone at your house could take a couple of days off from all the hard work. This no way to spend the holiday, working like the proverbial dog.
By the way, I saw you up at Friends of Chet this morning. Looking good!

I am the high bidder on an item right now! I won’t tell which one, becuase I don’t want anyone getting any ideas….

I would like to be at the Rockie’s game today, but after yesterday fiasco, I might be a little scared. Anyway, after the noise starts, I have to go to the bedroom and mom has to go with me.

    A day off…relaxing.
    Chores I have to do today: Decide whether to out-bid Staff on a certain item; (Heh. heh.) decide whether to take a loan out to bid on the ARC or if “owning” it for almost an hour was good enough;
choose between Franklin and YSAS; finish a library book that’s due tomorrow. I’d better get busy.

Ve think Rio vould be so much better as Chief of Staff. (Not our Staff – but office staff) CoS organizes everything, tells evervon vhat to do, and gets paid to be bossy. Is perfect fit for my darlink little Spugnik, no?
Ve vote for Volfie as Secretary of State.
And Macy for Department of Defense. She vill make everyvon march in File! See, Natasha makes good joke, right?

  34. Gus & BooBear

Bummer, outbid on 2 of our 4 most wanted items. Of course, everytime we page through the items, we thinks “Hmm, maybe that would make a great present for so and so. We should bid on that.” Kind of wish the auction was over today so the suspense would be over. In another week, however, the grand total may be alot higher.

Dawson, so are you the one bidding against us on Franklin??

  35. Siber-H
    11:45 am on July 4th, 2011

Dawson, Yes, they are and will shoot off fireworks in this state.
The noise began here about three days ago. The governor would ban all fireworks in this state, but she doesn’t have the legal authority. The legislature would have to pass a law, and they won’t do it because the fireworks lobby is too strong.
In the 1980’s, a Hispanic Governor that was leaving office after an 8 year term, called NM a “Banana Republic”. Well….

  36. Gus & BooBear
    11:51 am on July 4th, 2011

Wow, that’s awful, SiberH!! Mom and Dad actually stayed home this weekend because they were afraid someone would set off fireworks and start a fire. They are banned in all counties around here due to the drought……can’t sell them, can’t transport them, can’t set them off. Even the professional shows are being cancelled except for the big one in Houston.

I have deduced that it is Mr. Baker who is updating the FOM. I don’t envy him one little bit.

First of all, there was the Frisbee Incident. Were the Plunderers given the opportunity to win some frisbees?

    No, we were not.

Were the Facebookies being given the opportunity to win Frisbees?

    Yes they were.

Is the Plunderer FOM photo on display?

    No it is not.

Is the Facebookie FOM photo on display?

    Yes it is.

Is the Plunderer FOM photo on display?

    No it is not.

Thunder clouds are forming. Bee and Melanie may want to start packing their canes.

    I’m just saying……

  42. OleyHowlers
    12:53 pm on July 4th, 2011

We don’t mind fireworks. Some years, Mom & Pop drive us to a nice hill to watch them. We don’t see the excitement, but neither do they scare us. But this year, Mom is very afraid of fireworks. It is very dry here, and she said even a little spark from a kid’s sparkler could start a fire. So we think doing fireworks in Siber’s neck of the woods is a very bad idea.

Now about this political thing…we think its time for a woman to run things. (and we are NOT impressed with the women currently being bandied about in the media). Sasha is the bossy one around here…just sayin’.

  43. Siber-H
    1:06 pm on July 4th, 2011

Sasha for President!!! How about the hot one for VP.
Mom and dad will be looking out on all sides of the house later today to check for fire. The garden hoses are hooked up and ready to go. The forestry guys are saying that the trees are so dry that one ember can ignite a green tree.

    Very well said, Wolfie

(OleyHowlers Mom Here): If Sasha becomes Prez, she will be the oldest president in history. So we have to pick her V.P. prudently. I can say without a doubt, the Hot One would NOT be a prudent pick.

Dog have you guys been busy! James did very well on his first race. We were worried about Rachel and Will, everyone went by and they still weren’t there. There was a cut off time. If you didn’t reach a particular place by a certain time, your race was over. . .

Then over the hill we saw them! They had stayed behind to help their friend who has some medical issues. They all completed the race! YEA!

I have a video, but I need permission to put it up.

Can Sibes and Newfoundlands be POTUS? They do come from other countries. snicker.

“There really aren’t any rules to the ingredients. You can use white flour or half wheat and half white. You can add wheat germ or cornmeal.”

Is the text in the ARC the final text of the book or are some editing still to be done? SQ did note that the cover is not the same cover that will be published with the book. And wasn’t it about this time last year when he told us where his book tour would be taking him?

It occurs to me that we could have an index but that is beyond my talents. Liz: What do you think?

By the way, the Twins game was great. 7 to 0 against the Tampa Bay Rays and it was a shutout for Duensing.

YSAS can inscribe his picture very simply, “Dawson, I love you.”

I am out of here furry and non-furry folks!

I have downloaded 3 novels and a novella! (hmmm, I hope I sleep tonight).
Dean Koontz, Nora Roberts, Lois McMasters Bujold and Diane Mott Davidson, yippee!
Not saying my reading material is eclectic but . . .

Hey BSD, hope I see your face up there!

Melanie, Are you going to read Nora Roberts The Search?

Does anyone know what we are up to total on the auction?

We are going to watch a Netflix movie tonight called The Red violin. Might be a little on the arty side, but looks like something Bee would like. Will keep you posted.

ARC! If only the Plunderers could somehow bid on it as a Group. (desperation setting in) Our trusted Prof.B could hold it for safekeeping.

Happy 4th to all of you. Enjoy the day.

B – 115 pages??? that’s going to be one massive PDF. Could be tricky to download, that’s my prediction. Hmmm. THinks…

Bear!….You should have thought of that great idea before the Auction…grunt!…Then we could have all pitched in some money and have a designated someone to bid for us until our pot-o-arc-money was gone….heh!….Maybe we would have had enough to win it back for the Plunderers….huffle!

Oh, sorry B: to answer your question – an index would be useful but there’s no good way to automate it and it’s a tricky job. I would recommend a good contents page, one up front for all the categories and then a comprehensive one at the start of each section.

  101. B.Stover
    8:31 pm on July 4th, 2011

Liz: When the SharedBooks site makes the “book” they have print on both sides of the page so the page number would be halved. Don’t know if you can do that when making the pdf since I know nothing about pdfs.

  102. Liz
    8:53 pm on July 4th, 2011

You can print PDFs double sided: so the PDF would have the total number of pages (115) but if people print it out then the book would be half of that. Won’t reduce the file size but anyway, I’m sure there’ll be a way.

Hoi everyone – hope you have all had a wonderful holiday! We are just waiting for the Boston Pops 4th of July Special – the 1812 overture, complete with cannons!

Bee – sorry to just be getting back to you about the recipe. The thing is, that recipe is so forgiving – you can add almost anything as long as the final “batter” is a heavy paste consistency and has to be spread out in the pan with a hand or tool. Sometimes the flour doesn’t seem enough, and we throw in a handful of cornmeal, or wheat germ. If the pumpkin or bananas make the batter too soft, more dry ingredients can be added to stiffen it back up again.
Is there a way you can indicate that in the write-up?
And the Blur-Berry dessert is from us.

And now – it seems that SOMEONE (Liz, is that you???) has outbid us on the toffee! We’re gonna go stand around in the park looking adorable, and when anyone wants to take our picture, we’ll charge ’em five bucks. So, we’ll see Miss Smarty (from Down Under) Pants, just who ends up with that toffee!

    (tee hee)

A fire is blazing and hot dogs and corn on the cob are awaiting the coals. It’s hot and sunny with a breeze. A new clothes line is being strung. I’m just finishing a good book. Life doesn’t get any better than this. 🙂 😉 🙂

Yes, I’m watching the Rockies game. First CarGo and now Tulo. Not that they aren’t all valuable, but these are the two guys the Rockies need the most.
I was afraid CarGo was badly injured yesterday. Hearing the thud of him hitting that wall gave me bad dreams.

Update from auction central. We just sailed past the $1800 mark, at $1801.37. What put over the top was the last bid on a picture of a famous movie star to be (not Franklin), which someone just upped by $2.57 to $19.57 (which was also a good year for Chevies). I can’t say who the bidder was, but she was heard singing 99 Bottles of Borscht on the Wall. Wookie

Melanie, thanks for posting the link about all the kats who have served our country aboard naval ships. Its about time we get our due…what with all the praise for seals and dogs.

Its been a great 4th of July weekend, but we are very tired from all the fun. Heading off to beddy-bye. Good nite to all.

Bee, You are right Red Violin is not a new movie, it came out in 1998. The nice thing about Netflix is getting to review and order movies we had never heard of. Another one we LOVED was Flipped. Rob Reiner directed, and main characters are a boy and girl born in 1950. Story starts in 1957 with them at age 7. Really good movie, and might appeal to some of youse guys who might be about the same age.

Well, back to watch the end of the movie and relax for a bit before bed.

Hopefully we can still afford to bid on something tomorrow.

Details are few, but I do know that they come from my mushing mentor, Lance who is also the namesake of the second half of W.L’s name!
