Happy Birthday, Bob Dylan!

“Seventy-three today,” Spence says.

“An important figure in the cultcha,” says Admin.

“You all right?”

“Don’t think twice.”

I was part of the Dylan era. I’m just a little younger than he is but my same birthday is coming up shortly. It was the era of don’t trust anyone over 30. But then we all turned 30 and I was a flower child no more. My gosh, that was many lifetimes ago.

Bob Dylan was one of our favorites..

Amalia’s visit was the highlight of the month. What a friend!
I want to write on the blog what all of you meant to Melanie and how important you were to her for so long. I can’t do it yet, I can hardly go in her room. I know that I will get through this wasteland but losing Dan, 7 dogs and my Melanie in a year and a half is a lot to handle. Twelve rooms two old dogs and an old lady is quite a change. Now Martha has to go in for an operation..not cancer, just clean up and stuff and I am terrified.

Oh, Zoe. What a sad year you have had. We think the dogs left to cross the rainbow bridge early so they could greet Melanie and take good care of her.

Martha will be fine and dandy. And thank goodness for Amalia. You have a wonderful friend to visit with.

From Momma: Same era; different artist:

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
    A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late!

I am in the middle of getting the garden up and running. I remember sending Melanie Zinnia seeds to plant this spring. Sad feelings rise up.

Zoe, I believe you can trust your grandchildren to be there for you while Martha has some work done. Loosing all those family members in such a short while is terrifying. I hope you can get through this dark time. Hugs from Staff and the kats.

We loved Pete Seeger’s Turn turn turn, sung by The Byrds.

Not a huge Dylan fan – we did like Lay Lady Lay and Blowin in the Wind along with maybe a few others.

Good to hear from Zoe. We think of her often. What a great friend Amalia is. Barb wishes she lived closer, but at least she got a chance to meet her.

    Off to the grocery store.

Aww, gee whillikers. Mama has never been anyone’s “highlight” before. She thinks she was very blessed the day she first got an email from high in the hills asking about the studio. From that tiny seed, a whole garden of friendship, family and love has grown. Some of the blossoms have faded away, but new growth is peeking through with daughters in law and babies to be. The garden still grows.

As far as Dylan – well not so much. We always wanted to hold him down, shave him, brush his hair and tell him to ANNUNCIATE Bob, ANNUNCIATE!

Hello Everyone–so much with which to catch up I don’t know what to say (not that that’s ever stopped me) except:
    Zoe–you will all see each other again, you just have to wait a while;
    Teddy RR–A belated Happy Birthday.
And I wanted to mention a strangely interesting book I’m reading: “Casebook” by Mona Simpson (not Bart’s grandmother). 14-year-old narrator hires a private detective to check out his mother’s new beau (other things happen too). What immediately caught my attention was the mother’s name–Irene Adler–and she’s a math professor. Still trying to crack that symbolism/allusion, but also really enjoying the voice of the narrator.
Also, thanks for the Slurp n Burp information (and I agree–disgusting).
