There’s been some mention of Griffie – the ferret in Tender Is The Bite, the Chet and Bernie political (sort of) novel. Ferrets and politics? It seemed right to me. Here’s Griffie in action:

“It was stolen. Nice meeting you.” Johnnie Lee took a step back and slammed the door in our faces. Or almost. Bernie has very quick feet, which comes as surprise to a lot of people, and he stuck his foot in the doorway just in time. But then – oh, no – came a surprise on us. Griffie darted down and nipped Bernie’s ankle.

“Ow,” said Bernie, withdrawing his foot. The door closed all the way. Locks thunked into place.

And now I, Chet, was the angry one. A big part of my job was protecting Bernie from the Griffies of this world. I threw myself at the door, making the whole building shake in a very gratifying way, and was gathering myself to do it again when Bernie held up his hand. I didn’t stop, exactly. Let’s just call it a pause.

I like that Chet was a bit jealous when Griffie looked at Bernie with “his adoring eyes.” :^)

    Good day to all!

I used to frequent a blog (like 25 years ago) that had a lawyer on it (one of many as it turns out) and she always referred to her and her profession as a ferret. She went by Wendy the ferret. I know that often lawyers are compared to sharks and boy, did she have plenty of jokes about lawyers, but it always stuck with me about lawyers and ferrets. That’s what came to mind when I was reading about Griffie and ferrets in Tender is the Bite.

    Griffies!….Of the world!…snort!…Don’t get me started….grunt!

Today!…My friend spent hours making 3 types of cookie dough…sniff!sniff!…It all smelt delish! The doughs are all wrapped and in the fridge waiting for tomorrow when they will be baked…slobber!…I love cookies! I love Christmas Cookies even more than just regular wonderful cookies…snorkel!…I caught a glimpse of a very large HAM in the fridge while I was standing there watching my friend put her cookie dough inside….YEEEEP!…The biggest ham I have seen in quite a while…gaggle!

Food!…This reminds me that Wookies Paw is having guests over this weekend again for a delightful, wonderful meal!…snort!…I hope he shares some photos with us…wheeze!

The new ceiling fan has arrived early so I’ll be taking that over to my parent’s tomorrow and a neighbor is going to help me install it. If there’s time I will be making one batch of our favorite Christmas cookies. Family recipe. Butterzeug. I’m also making a spinach feta quiche for dinner. And I have to do the grocery shopping for the week. It will probably go: fan, shopping, quiche, cookies and I’ll be there for 12 hours from 11am to 11pm.

Have I decorated my house? Nope. I spent 4 hours there on Friday doing their tree and most of the day last Saturday moving furniture out of the two rooms getting hardwood floors and then setting up her Dickens Village and doing other decorating. So I have no energy left for my house and besides, no one visits me anyway so what’s the point.

Mlaiuppa!…My pug heart goes out to youse!…snort!…You and my friend have a lot in common. Always doing for older family members and the others don’t bother to even visit unless there is a big Ham involved….spit!…I’ve mentally tried to tell my friend this is THE VERY LAST YEAR she will be making Christmas/Thanksgiving…or any big dinner. Heck she’s been doing it since she was 23….wheeze!…She needs a break by golly…groan!

Now!…If she were cooking a big dinner like Debbie and Maury have each year for their beloved friends…well that would be another matter…snort!…But as it is the people she is cooking for and making cookies for are very Ungrateful and Selfish. She and I do not even want them in our small house. But we (she) is doing it for her elderly mother one last time….wheeze!…I wish she could cook for good friends. That would make her very happy for sure….snorkel!

Oh, wow. You had me at brie and crab cakes. If it’s Prime I’d eat Beed filets.

I have service for 12 in my beautiful vintage china that it took me years surfing eBay to complete. Salem Royal Rose Bouquet. I love it. Will likely sell most of it except for a few place settings and a few serving pieces. I also have a lot of Spode for Christmas. I’ll keep a bit of that too. I likely won’t ever entertain for Christmas either so a lot of that can go. I have a Thanksgiving set from Fitz and Floyd too. I don’t know what I was thinking. Four place settings would be more than enough. What do I need with a soup tureen that holds half a gallon of soup? I’m starting to look around the house and think, sell this, I’ll never get to use this, etc. I do like to bake still so will keep some kitchen things but I don’t need six pie plates and I think I can get rid of most of the cake pans too.

I will still keep my holiday decorations as I do enjoy decorating for the holidays. It’s just these past years I’ve worn myself out doing my parent’s home I just don’t have the energy to do my own. Besides, during the holidays I spend so much time over there I wouldn’t get to enjoy my own home anyway. I did get out all of my dog ornaments and put them on my little metal display with It’s a Wonderful Woof prominently in front. It shall be displayed every year now. A new tradition.
