Goofery
Sometimes Admin and Spence sit down with a drink or two and Admin asks some tough questions. Here are some from last night.
How many years will the longest lived person now living live?
How soon will there be a smart-phone app that when you point your phone at a bunch of people all their names and addresses and maybe even SSN’s pop up on the screen?
Why can Goofy talk and Pluto can’t?
Today: In a rare joint appearance, Spencer Quinn and PA at the Centerville Library, Centerville MA – 2:30.

Good morning, Everybody and have a good weekend.
Sounds like more than a drink “or two”. Maybe they brought back some of that sold-only-on-the-island special rum.
9:19 am on January 8th, 2011
? #1. Less than a year
9:22 am on January 8th, 2011
Oops.
How did that answer jump up there? I wasn’t done yet.
? #2 Not in my lifetime.
? #3 Because Goofy is goofy so anything goes but Pluto is a dog and they don’t talk, duh. (unless something goofy is happening).
9:23 am on January 8th, 2011
Do I win a prize?
9:37 am on January 8th, 2011
I think that Spence and Admin should stick to one drink at most.
9:45 am on January 8th, 2011
This conversation reminds me of my guys’ conversation of what weaponry and plans they need to make or have on hand when the zombies attack.
On the other hand, Zoë and I had an interesting conversation of the “school” edition of Huckleberry Finn.
Hmmm, pondering here . . .
9:46 am on January 8th, 2011
By the way, how did the Centerville Library manage to get both of those best selling authors at one time?
Pondering continues . . .
I may just ponder all morning.
9:50 am on January 8th, 2011
Good morning everyone.
Big week ahead for you Melanie. Still pondering what TTNF meant. Rio speculated “Till Tomorrow Night Fossils”. We liked that one.
Bee, When are your tests scheduled?
Barb is off in a few to do errand, shopping, etc. Very cold here but no snow.

Elvis Presley’s birthday.

Staff – Our family is perfect for those Drinking Glasses! Mom loves the American Science & Surplus web site and will be getting a few things.
A few years ago Sam’s Mom wore a long blond wig to a Halloween party. By the end of the evening, Sam’s Dad was wearing the wig. Then my Mom took it and wore it to work. Men were gathered around her desk all day! When last seen, the wig was on a guy friend of Sam’s boy, under a fedora, and the two were walking down Main St.

Missing:
One long blond wig, well used.
Last seen on Elvis Presley . . .

Good morning everyone.
It’s 18 here but sunny. We have about one inch of snow.
B&M: This coming Wednesday I see the lung specialist and she will give me breathing tests. Then she will set up a time for me to have the bronchoscopy. Thank you for asking.
11:02 am on January 8th, 2011
I have a comment being moderated so I’ll do one sentence at a time.

Hmmm, Barb & MagPie, when I get REALLY tired dyslexia creeps in.
I was REALLY tired last night. I like Riö’s idea though 🙂

Today!…I can’t make it to that library on such short notice…grump!…Imagine, both of them there at the same time! I bet lighting will strike someone at that library …snort!…Melanie, how far is the Centerville from you? Can you get there in time to see both those guys?…grunt!
Stover!… I’m starting to think Mike Baker is messing with you…heh!…No one gets moderated that much…snort!….Now if this post is moderated, I’ll eat my words….sniff!
11:19 am on January 8th, 2011
No, Riö, I wouldn’t make it. Not only time is a problem, but we’re still digging out from the snow.
Now if I can just figure out how to tesseract, I could do it.
(slobbery kisses from Newfs if you know what books that is from!)
11:21 am on January 8th, 2011
Questions!….Is it just me or does today’s post seem to be written by someone who is not Chet?…grunt!….I bet someone got someone else to fill in for our guy because Spence and Admin had to drive to Centerville, MA – wherever that is…grunt!
Sci-Fi!…I haven’t read science fiction since I was a puppy…grunt!…I have to clue what tesseract is about…snort!
11:25 am on January 8th, 2011
Paper!… I have to go watch her cut and roll some more paper…sniff!… She decided she is going to give this next project to her mother’s neighbor…snort!… That neighbor has been a really good friend to her mom during all these awful months…snuffle! …Photo forthcoming later today…yeep!
11:30 am on January 8th, 2011
Wookie and Rio – I agree that Mike Baker is retaliating against B. Well, she did go after him with Melanie’s cane, but it was justified (like homicide?).
11:30 am on January 8th, 2011
Rio: I don’t think that Mike Baker is on the blog enough to mess around with me.
11:31 am on January 8th, 2011
If Mollypop is correct, I’ll start doing some of my own messing around.
11:32 am on January 8th, 2011
Stover!…Mike Baker makes his living being on blogs. Just think about it…heh!
11:45 am on January 8th, 2011
Some guy came over this morning, sort of strange looking, had a pocket protector on his winter coat.
Gave some story about doing research on Newfoundland dogs and wanted to meet the Pack. I called the Pack in (something that I don’t usually do, when someone meets the Pack, the Pack come in one or two at a time) and the guy hightailed it out of here.
My cane is missing . . .
12:19 pm on January 8th, 2011
Rio: As I said earlier, I don’t think Mike Baker spends much time on this blog.
12:48 pm on January 8th, 2011
Baker!…You mean he doesn’t spend a lot of time working on this here blog because of the poor performance issues and all the other bugs that have not been dealt with yet?…snort!….Yes, you might be right about that!…grunt!
Basket!…My friend is kicking herself for making that basket so square….grump!…Now she has to make all these extra little bitty objects to cover up the squareness…snort!…She wanted to be done with this project and onto the next one by now…sniff!
Melanie!…Maybe the pocket protector is becoming your totem…heh!

Good one, Rio!!!
1:18 pm on January 8th, 2011
Very funny Rio.
T&G: Re books. I read M.C. Beaton & Christie. Do you read Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth both?
Favorites of Agatha Christie are “Murder on the Orient Express” and “And Then There Were None” (or sometimes called “10 Little Indians.”

Melanie: Kirby’s mom here. I’m working today, and I normally don’t write from work, but your question was right up my alley! Tessaract is from one of my most favorite books in the world — A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle.
(But I’m not sure slobbery kisses from a pack of Newfs would go over real big here, so you can skip that part!)
1:43 pm on January 8th, 2011
Gertie and George – Awwww. Adorable.

Melanie: Thank you for the picture of G & G, playfully posing with their Newfie ruffs and Irish spots.

Can someone post the Buttermilk fruitcake/bread recipe again, or tell us where to find it?
2:20 pm on January 8th, 2011
Dawson: Here’s the recipe.
Christine’s Buttermilk Fruit Cake
3 eggs
1 ½ cup sugar
1 teas vanilla
¾ cup oil
1 teas salt
1 cup of buttermilk
1 teas of baking soda
3 cups flour
1 box of golden raisins
1 lb candied fruit
1 cup chopped walnuts
Mix buttermilk and baking soda, add eggs, sugar vanilla, oil and salt. Mix well then gradually add flour. Once blended stir in fruit and nuts. Pour into greased pans and bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
Makes two loaf pans, one Bundt or four mini loafs. Adjust baking time based on pan size.
Christine’s Tips…I prefer to use chopped dried fruit rather than candied fruit. My favorite combination is cranberry, raisin, apricot. But, I have used many different combinations of dried fruit and they are all good (i.e. dates, apples, cherries, pineapple, etc). I have also used pecans which is very good.
2:21 pm on January 8th, 2011
MagPie!….Why in the hell don’t you two ever copy something the first time you see it if you know you are going to one day want to make it, read it or look at it…grump…You are constantly asking others to find things for you that were posted days ago…snort!…Take responsiblilty! Has anyone seen Melanie’s cane?….wheeze!
2:23 pm on January 8th, 2011
Bee, That was B&M that requested it but thank you so much. Bought some buttermilk and mixed dried fruit today, so we are set to go.
Melanie, that is a very cute picture of the pups. At about 8 months, they are probably well past the lap puppy stage.

EXCUSE ME, RIO, but we must be having a major brain cramp, because we cann’t remember asking anyone to do this before. What have we been asking for?
2:30 pm on January 8th, 2011
Yikes!
B.Stover: Thanks. I copied it too…just in case I decide I need it later – because I don’t want to endure the Wrath of Rio.
2:35 pm on January 8th, 2011
B. Stover: I think you were thinking of me because I have been busy all morning on internet sites related to a certain Wittgenstein and you are to blame. 🙂

What the hell?
2:49 pm on January 8th, 2011
Dawson: I’m really laughing! I love people to ponder things Wittgenstein wrote. What did you find out in your research?
B&M: I’m sorry. I must have looked at Dawson’s message just above yours asking for the recipe. I made the fruitcake/bread and it’s very good.
2:54 pm on January 8th, 2011
Very cute of River Bear Gertie and River Bear George!
The expressions on their faces are adorable.
2:54 pm on January 8th, 2011
Rio, We are still waiting for your answer, because we think you are being very unfair with us. We do not constantly ask for things to be repeated. At least not that we can remember.

3:03 pm on January 8th, 2011
Kirby T! Sure you don’t want the kisses? We could do puppy kisses, look at those sweet faces . . .
Dawson: I’m still pondering what B. Stover wrote . . .
3:06 pm on January 8th, 2011
Molly APB: The picture you wanted was posted on December 31st.
3:06 pm on January 8th, 2011
B.Stover: I’m more confused than ever…I finally ended up (don’t ask me how) at a meditation site that calmed my brain down for awhile.
3:13 pm on January 8th, 2011
Melanie: I didn’t write it; I just quoted it.
Here’s another:
“Logic is not a body of doctrine, but a mirror-image of the world. Logic is transcendental” (Wittgenstein, Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, 6.13).
3:13 pm on January 8th, 2011
From Kirby’s Mom to Melanie: Sorry — I’d love to have those puppies (big puppies!) here for some kisses, but dogs aren’t allowed in the library! Although we have had some very well-trained therapy dogs here for a program once or twice. Just how well-behaved are Gertie and George? Pondering….
3:16 pm on January 8th, 2011
Dawson: You just have to let your brain go abstract and then Wittgenstein makes sense.
3:30 pm on January 8th, 2011
B. Stover: Yoga master of the word.
Kirby T.: Have no idea how they actually are behavior-wise, we are just told they are “sweet”.
4:05 pm on January 8th, 2011
MagPie!… I’ve been busy watching my friend quill and watching Sherlock on DVD….snort!… Maybe it hasn’t been you two asking for stuff all the time, maybe it was some one else. You just sort of triggered the fact that it seems to be happening a lot lately. ….snort!… I didn’t mean to upset you that much just rile your feathers a bit…grunt!
4:26 pm on January 8th, 2011
OK we are calmed down. But you can be we are going to copy this recipe down for sure! Gadzooks!

They are 18 today, and seem to be going in the right direction.
We hope!
I will post photos later.

We have told them that as long as they are clean and sober, stay in high school and attend therapy we will do everything we can to help them succeed. It’s up to them. They have turned a corner this week, and hopefully will continue to stay on track. But time will tell.
(Shh, don’t tell anyone but it would break mom’s heart to toss them out until they are ready. But it may come to that.)

A friend just phoned me about a shooting in Tuscon of a Congresswoman and others. Maybe you all already know about it.
What a scary world it is nowdays.
6:28 pm on January 8th, 2011
Good Luck Wölife’s Mom!
Mollie ABP: I’ve been reading about that. You’re right.
For fun: Here is a question someone sent me in an email.
“Why do they put pictures of criminals up in the Post Office? What are we supposed to do, write to them? Why don’t they just put their pictures on the postage stamps so the mailmen can look for them while they deliver the mail?”
6:32 pm on January 8th, 2011
Mr. Tibbs!….This is for you…snort!
“I’ve got four legs, from my hips to the ground and

Staff!…My friend worked a lot on her project today but she is still not happy with the basket…grunt!… She tried something and it does not work, thank goodness she did not glue it down…heh! …There is another idea brewing but it will also take a lot of time to make…sneeze!…I say this project is done. I think it looks just fine for her mother’s neighbor…wheeze!
6:45 pm on January 8th, 2011
Mollie ABP, They just said on the news that the Congresswoman was shot in the head but is expected to survive. 9 people were killed, including a 9 year old girl, and about 10 others were shot. It was in a shopping mall and there was only a small crowd of people listening to the speech. One of those killed was a Judge. 22 year old was the shooter.
6:53 pm on January 8th, 2011
Good Grief!….My friend is not sure she wants to turn on the news or not tonight… grunt!…It’s a very sad world these days…sniff!…Sad and vicious…growl! …It’s good she has me to protect her…sneeze!
Hey!…Where’s my supper?…grump!

Rio, No we don’t have major problems till we have to go to page 2. Only problem we are having is that after we post, the text stays in the white box.
Update, they are saying maybe only 6-7 dead, but 19 injured. A witness said there were only 20-30 people standing there, so the shooter hit a high percentage of them.
He was unhappy with out government.

That should say unhappy with our government.

Asshole!…He killed a little girl. Hows that going to help improve the government…snarl!…I hope he gets the death sentence. Bastard. If he gets off on an insanity plea, I will have to go speak with the Head of the Goats….sniff!…Scary stuff, but I will do it

Well I have been away all day so I had to read the blog. I knew I had seen Tesseract somewhere. That is one of my fav. Madeline L’Engle books too.
SStover,
I wonder if they are moderating the initials B & M when put close together because they are so close to S & M, which has a different meaning to some people. Although I don’t know what B & M could mean. Pondering
I guess I will always say Barb and Maggie, or Magpie so I don’t have to worry about it.
8:11 pm on January 8th, 2011
I have the same problem that B&M have with the blog.
8:16 pm on January 8th, 2011
Staff, Barb will not be offended if you just address me.
8:17 pm on January 8th, 2011
Staff: I used B&M in the 11:04 comment and it wasn’t moderated. Mmmmmmm.

Note to self:
If you forward an email to the downstairs computer, so you can show Zoë the colors that OTAS’s F wants to use in the wedding (4/21), when you answer the email, you then send it back to the upstairs computer instead of F.
Hmmm.
And to think I taught higher math.

Good Evening All. Just catching up after a day of running errands, so we missed a lot of the earlier posts. But….
Kirby – tell your Mom that Tupper is a medical alert dog (even though she lost her vest) and now I (Gilly) have my Medical Alert Dog in Training Vest. Tupper is very well behaved. As for me, I’m still kind of a little crazy – I had a tough life before I was rescued – Melanie says I have some static between the ears. But can we come to your library anyway? We love libraries.
Mollie – we do read both Agatha Raisin and Hamish. MC also started another series with a Victorian theme- the first one was called “Snobbery and Violence” Didja see that one?
And Rio – we are new tro the blog, so we didn’t know that having to scroll thru was a bug, but yes, we have it too.
And as for snow – we only got “enough to track a cat”, as they say in this household, despite the dire predictions of our histrionic local TV weatherman.
8:27 pm on January 8th, 2011
So far the kats are sleeping. I don’t know why they want to sleep as we were away all day and I assume they slept then too. They must have had a harder day then we know about. Abbie was snoring away, although she will deny it.
8:31 pm on January 8th, 2011
Dear Tupper and Gilly,
Even here is Minnesota the weathermen get all wound up about snow. You would think they have had enough of it this year that they would calm down a bit, but it only seems to make it worse.
I saw an ad for a minivan today and it said that “snow tires handled very nicely on the 1 inch of snow that occurred during testing” and it made me laugh.
8:33 pm on January 8th, 2011
Tracks!…Kat tracks always inspire me to go out of my yard…sniff!…I like to follow them because they always lead across to the next door neighbors yard and then drop off at the edge of lawn right where the street part starts ….wheeze!….Boy, oh boy do I want to snuffle my way across that street and find that trespassing Kat!…growl!… I always get stopped by her! She’s always watching and I can never ever track a Kat!…grump!
8:46 pm on January 8th, 2011
T&G: Yes, I read Snobbery & Violence and liked it.
Here is a picture of the guy that killed all those people. I can’t believe he looks so like a normal nice guy. They say that a lot about killers these days…
My boy read some of the stuff he wrote on the internet before the FBI took it off and the guy really sounded crazy.

Rio, I will gladly ship Sage to you via UPS so you can track him, snort at him and chortle at him. Everyone else thinks he is just mischevious and silly, but I think he should go get stuffed!
9:09 pm on January 8th, 2011
Tupper and Gilly: Please make sure that Sage stays in Riö’s yard and doesn’t cross the street. He’s not allowed out of his yard.
9:09 pm on January 8th, 2011
Rio,
I just got to the computer after an unusually busy day for me, and I have to tell you I
LOVE your little poem. You’ve brightened a very cold, snowy, dismal day. Thank you.
You’re quite a guy!
9:10 pm on January 8th, 2011
Rio,
Sometimes there comes a time when a project is no longer fun. You have two choices. Put it in a box and don’t look at it for years or say it is done.
Sounds like it is time to say that beautiful vase of flowers is done. (I don’t recommend putting it in a box because they nag at you from boxes.) Sometimes I think I can hear the darn things calling my name. In quilting and knitting circles those are UFO’s. (un-finished objects)
I am sure that your Mom’s neighbor won’t be near as fussy as this blog full of artists is and she will love it dearly. The flowers are magnificent.
9:14 pm on January 8th, 2011
Staff: Did I read correctly and not only do you quilt you knit??
Wow.
Riö: I agree with Staff, but usually put something away for maybe 2 days and then look at it and see if I like it or not. When you are working with something non-stop, after awhile all you see is what you don’t like about it.
9:18 pm on January 8th, 2011
We love all of the Wrinkle in Time series. When I grow up, I want to be Charles Wallace.
Yea, Dad is setting Mom’s ipad!! Whoo-ee!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the families.
There are far more good people than bad in the world. It’s just that the good people are folks like us, quietly living our lives by being caring, responsible plunderers. It only takes one bad person to do something really, really bad to throw us all for a loop.
9:24 pm on January 8th, 2011
Hi Melanie,
Yes I knit too. I was a knitter first and then had carpal tunnel and didn’t knit for about 20 years, so I found quilting. Meanwhile I had taught A Catty Librarian and she knitted during that time as my proxy.
When I thought I might have to go on dialysis I was brave enough to have the carpal tunnel surgery and the doctor said I would never have a problem with it again and he was right.
It has taken me a while to get back to knitting though. There are few knitters up in North Dakota anywhere near me. Sometimes you need a knitting buddy, and I have lots of quilting buddies.
Down here in the cities I have a great knitting store 3 blocks away so I am being seduced back to the yarn. As if I needed any more.
So, yes, I knit. I have only started my current ‘mobius’ scarf project 5 times. I have it right this time though. It would be faster if I used a pattern.
9:26 pm on January 8th, 2011
Dear Staff – don’t kid yourself that your kats sleep all day when you are gone. We have to stay here sometimes with these two rotten kitties. So we know. Didn’t you ever wonder why only one sock comes back from the wash? Or how jewelry chains get tangled up when they are just sitting still in the jewelry box? Or why the milk is right there in the refridgerator when you come home from picking up milk cuz you were out of it? Go ahead – ask your kats. Betcha they won’t admit it, but they’ll squeeze their eyes at you and look innocent. Yeah, right.
9:29 pm on January 8th, 2011
Sage!… Don’t send him here! My friend is allergic to Kats and I simply don’t get along with most of them…grunt!… I wish you guys would sign your posts so I know which one of you is posting at a given time…snort!
Photo-Op!… Here is a picture of me and Pepper on Christmas Eve afternoon…heh!…I long for that dry ground and sunshine now…sniff!…Pepper and I are pals forever, even though she soiled my new toy from Kirby and squeaked it all afternoon. Annoying!…grump!
9:32 pm on January 8th, 2011
OOOHHH!..FUUUDDGGGE!…grump!…The dark freakin’ side already…sigh.
9:35 pm on January 8th, 2011
Rio – we both kinda write the posts – don’t forget, we are Corgis…our legs are too short to reach the keyboard and the mouse at the same time. Gilly types better, but Tupper has got the right and left clicks down pat.
9:36 pm on January 8th, 2011
From Tup and Gilly’s Mama – can someone please explain the “Dark Side” thing to me?
9:36 pm on January 8th, 2011
Oh No. Over 100. do you think this is Mike Baker’s sneaky way of keeping the number of posts down?

See you’all tomorrow.

Staff N’ Melanie!… My friend says she does not want to give up on the project just yet….snort!…The thing she made today that doesn’t work here, will work on another project…grunt!…She now knows she needs a more simple and light flowing thing to finish it…heh!…It’s been a great learning experience for both of us…sneeze! cough!…I’ve learned how far to stay away when she is doing this silly stuff…gruff!

Melanie, We know Staff is a knitter because if you go to her webstie it is call two knitwits. Very clever.
Also wanted to mention that Barb’s granddaughter, Baye, age 11, has an Angora rabbit named Billie. He is very cute, in fact, incredibly cute. Angora rabbits produce angora wool (Angora goats produce mohair). Baye had Billie sheared a few months ago and then someone spun the yarn and knitted a scarf for her for Christmas. It is beautiful and very, very soft. It is sort of a cable stitch design with a little raised circle every few inches. Not sure what that is called but Staff probably knows .

MagPie! – The little raised circle sounds like a popcorn stitch.

TupperGilly!…Refresh, Read, Write!….That is the order in which you should conduct yourselves on this here blog – our Mantra if you may….grunt!… No excections!…So to answer your Dark Side Question; We here at Chet’s blog became very spoilt with the existing software. Then out of the blue weird things started happening. Big time bugs disrupting our important conversations! Blast! Spencers’ publisher got a call from the Tech Guy, name of Michael Baker, tellng him that the blog would no longer function unless a major over-haul was done….wheeze!… Mike started on the re-design and instantly almost everyone objected to it violently!…heh!…That was fun. He got mad and said, “Forget about it, it’s gonna stay the same as it ever was! It’s not worth the hassel.” As a few of the Plunders were fighting with him on Facebook, of all places!…heh!…. Well, this here blog did stay the same with a few underlying changes which are causing some irritating bugs…sniff!…I personnally feel that he will never ever come back to fix them, just because… grunt!
TupperGilly!…Did you see the last Mission Report?…snort!…This sort of cemented the whole Mike Baker not helping us anymore thing…heh!…It’s all Stover’s fault really…snorkel

B&M: Might be the popcorn stitch.
Good night all.

Rio: None of the Plunderers are to blame.

Oh my – the dark side sounds like a scary place. We think we will go out for our last run in the snow and go to bed. Maybe tonight we will dream of popcorn stitches…do you put lots of butter on them?
Good night all – T & G

Staff – we loved watching about engineers and kats. Made us lol.
10:17 pm on January 8th, 2011
Snicker . . . all B. Stover’s fault . . . Right.
Barb and MagPie: Alas the name of their blog swept by me. I was thinking quilting and knitwits just flew in one eye and out the other.
Also, I didn’t realize that the Angora goats didn’t do the angora wool. Why don’t they call them Mohair goats?
A Billie Scarf! That’s cool.
A Newf owner had her dog groomed and took all the hair to someone who made her a gray hat, though she calls it a Pinkie hat. The name of her dog!

Stover!… I know! I know!…heh!

We haven’t heard from C.Harris for a few days. I know that there was going to be a big dip in temps up where she lives. I wonder if her internet froze?
Riö: Looking studly!
Patsy is snoring,
Humidifier sizzles,
How to sleep through noise?
NFTT, nope
TFNT, nope
TTNF, nope
TTFN, that’s it!

Melanie, That would make way too much sense to call them Mohair goats. Not sure why they are called Angora, but there has to be a logical reason.
Thanks for the answer, popcorn stitch is probably right. It is a pretty scaft, all natural color, sort of heather brown/gray tones.
A Newfie named Pinkie?
We are off to bed. Night all!
