Good Luck, Anapka!

“Hey,” Bernie says. “Remember that donkey?”

Donkey? The donkey we ran into on the Nuggets Bolliterri case who took an instant dislike to me just because I tried to herd him the tiniest bit? A kick like that? Hard to forget.

“The one they sent up parasailing for some publicity stunt at the Sea of Azov in Russia.”

I kind of remember. Just a little. Was it important? I could try harder … okay, that didn’t work.

“Well,” says Bernie, “there’s good news. The donkey, name of Anapka, has been bought by a British newspaper called the Sun, and flown to Moscow where a vet examined her and said she’s all right. Looks like she’ll be living in an animal sanctuary in the U.K. A happy ending, big guy.”

Love happy endings. What the rest of it was about I’m not sure.

Bernie gets a funny look in his eye. “The Sun,” he says. “Is that the paper with a different topless photo every day?”

Can’t help him there. We handle some things differently in the nation within the nation.

    Aaargh!

    A Happy Ending, that's great.

I wondered about that donkey. Did he break his legs? Did he land on his deirriere? That would mean that a donkey landed on his . . . oh, never mind.

I had all sorts of things to comment on last night's blog posts, but I read it 2 hours ago and now I don't remember them.

Got up early and helped get Grace and 12 pups into the car for their heart checks. They are at the vets now (a wrong turn somewhere made the trip longer) and checking 12 squirmy active pups's hearts will take awhile.

I'll look back later after I do everything and WRITE IT DOWN.

My brain has expanded . . . to a pad of paper and pen.

I am not entirely trusting of the words "Animal Sanctuary." That is ambiguous, in a 1984ish kind of way. Reminds me of Wicked (by Gregory Maguire) where a political backlash against Animals forced them out of politics and public life. Not that I care to enter politics.

    Hmmmmmmm.

    Fatty Kitty for President?

Puurrrrrrrrrr. Only if there's tuna for life.

Ooo. For Staff's kitties – propaganda (I might be better at politics than I thought) for lap-sitting:

We are happy for Anapka. We especially like donkeys since we had a mini donkey for several years. She now lives with a herd of 5 donkeys and will have a little one next spring. Everyone should have a cute little ass at some time in their life.

Stover — The Sun is what we would call a Tabloid here, but God bless them nonetheless for what they have done for Anapka.

Staff — Regarding Cosmo, I think Rio raised a valid point. I believe that Cosmo's owner uses him as an art subject in her own business, thus I think it would not be appropriate to include him without some consent. At the same time, I think there was a link to her web page associated with her postings, so it may be pretty easy to check with her to see if she would consent. My dad says that he would be more than willing to try to contact her to find out if she would consent to a block being included with Cosmo's picture.

From what I heard, it was the readers of The Sun that begged for the "newspaper" to do something to save the donkey. Their hearts are in the right place. I don't think there was any outcry from the readers of the New York Times or the Albuquerque Journal.

I also read that Anapka is 17 years old. Is that middle age for a donkey? I'm glad she is going to be in safe place now.

You won't believe what I have to put up with around here! Barb has been incubating chicken eggs for the past 20 days for a friend of hers. She had to turn them 5 times a day for 18 days, and now they are starting to hatch. There is A LOT OF CHEEPING coming from that incubator!!! And she has the nerve to tell me to leave it alone. How does she expect me to ignore all that noise? She won't let me in the laundry room by myself. Do you think she doesn't trust me, the MagPie?
