Gone Fishin’ (4)
“Yesterday’s catch?” says Spence.
“Giant oysters on the half shell, with delicious Canebrake wheat ale,” says Admin.
Welcome Finn the leaper, and here he is:

Yesterday’s catch sounds lovely.
Good morning all.
10:25 am on January 24th, 2014
Good morning, everyone! OFA’s “fishing trip” sounds like a lot of fun 🙂 (and tasty, too) Lots of our blog friends are still in our prayers this a.m.
Let’s have a fruitful Friday (as in productive).
10:30 am on January 24th, 2014
Good morning all. Hope everyone under the Quilt is doing well this morning.
Wicked cold here with snow on the way. Neighbors (Fred’s folks) have had a HVAC truck in their drive for the last hour. Not a good thing on a day like this. Brrr.
Hwy 94 is still shut down from the accident yesterday afternoon.
Barb has some running to do before the snow hits. Not sure Gucci is coming this weekend. 2-4″ of additional snow coming Sat and Sun. Foster folks are pretty far away to be making that drive.
10:36 am on January 24th, 2014
I hope this day finds you all well and safe. I venture out into 65 degree temperatures to the chiropractor, sending light, love, comfort and warmth to all.
Be safe and well.
10:40 am on January 24th, 2014
Diane, be careful with the weather info, it pisses Rio off 🙂
11:28 am on January 24th, 2014
Rio is much less angry since he doesn’t have to worry about his friend in the awful busy place and is now working with the hot shot.
11:28 am on January 24th, 2014
HoHo!…You got that right!…snort!
Spencer!…So when is that guy coming back anyways?…sniff!…Doesn’t he have a book to tip-tap-tippity-tap away on?…grunt!
11:28 am on January 24th, 2014
Rio, I think he posted that he has finished the book!!
11:32 am on January 24th, 2014
BooBear!….There is always another one in the works…sniff!….Don’t you know that by now?…grunt!
11:35 am on January 24th, 2014
True!
Kind of worried that we haven’t heard from the Howlers yet.
11:48 am on January 24th, 2014
Whew, been a long struggle, but I’m sort of back.
Golinka has kept me up with some of the going ones here.
As the doc said I have trouble metabolizing. First the contrasting dies and then the sedatives. YUCK!
I’m still down, but have to make the doc appointment at 2:45.
Take care EVERYONE!
12:00 pm on January 24th, 2014
Melanie!….sniffle!…I miss you terribly…snuffle!
12:08 pm on January 24th, 2014
Melanie, I miss you also, but I am glad you could check in with us.
I am wondering how Golinka and the Storyteller are doing.
Dima and the Howlers, Thinking of you.
Spence is eating fish instead of catching fish, isn’t he? I would like a holiday like that. Have fun Spence.
12:15 pm on January 24th, 2014
SiberH: Did you notice that Finn was leaping into water? Gasp and shudder!
Melanie: Am pillow, will travel.
Howlers: You are in our hearts.
12:16 pm on January 24th, 2014
I am thinking of Melanie, Dima, the Royal Mum, the Storyteller. Truman, Karen and BooBear . Sending you love and strong prayers.
12:22 pm on January 24th, 2014
Tenzing, I am trying very hard to ignore that dog jumping into the water. I guess it takes all kinds. Still, I like it better than the giant pink chicken.
12:22 pm on January 24th, 2014
Wose: My Two-legged may be busy, busy, busy, but she says she will make time to help with your résumé. I have advised her to put belly-rubber extrodinaire under special skills.
12:28 pm on January 24th, 2014
SiberH: I try not to judge, but still all that water sends a shiver down my tail. Luna is part fish and I love her anyway.
1:10 pm on January 24th, 2014
Water!….The biggest body of water I get near is this…grunt!
1:13 pm on January 24th, 2014
Spence: Oysters on the half shell? Is that raw oysters? I’d have to drink a 6 pack of Canebrake wheat ale before I could screw up enough courage to swallow a giant raw oyster. (If they are cooked, never mind.) I was enjoying the fishing trip until now. (I’d rather eat jello.)
I do plan on eating some fish up in Alaska, all of it cooked, thank you very much!
O’Howlers: It isn’t Canada holding up the weather. Alaska has sent their heat wave down to us and we will be well above freezing today and tomorrow with a stiff wind and bright sunshine. With 6 feet of snow on the ground, this won’t be pretty.
I hope you had a good sleep last night, holding Dima close to you.
Melanie: I wish for smooth sailing for you today.
1:34 pm on January 24th, 2014
Dawson: Yes, the oysters are raw. It is what you put on them that adds flavor since they don’t really have flavor. Now I’m hungry for oysters.
1:37 pm on January 24th, 2014
We are Back! Another Froggy drive. Masquers was reminding us of the Interstate pile-up that Barb was talking about yesterday…all-the-way-home…Gah.
Glad to see Melanie and the O’Howlers checked in this morning.
All our Friends under the Quilt are in our Prayers.
B: Oyster Shooters!
1:41 pm on January 24th, 2014
40 degrees and rainy. Fairbanks is 46 degrees, rainy and they closed the schools. Hate this weather.
Off to my local library–I was accepted as a volunteer. I will be around books!
2:03 pm on January 24th, 2014
CHobbit: Congratulations! You will never be without a good book to read.
BearSpiritDog: I’m glad to hear you are off the roads and safe at home.
Snowbella: Glad you have your feet on the ground and are also safe at home (for a few days),
2:08 pm on January 24th, 2014
Schools!….Why on earth would they close the schools when it is just raining?…grunt!
2:08 pm on January 24th, 2014
Rio: That photo must be from your puppy days just after your devil dog phase and shortly before your full on evil pug phase.
Dawson: My Lady is home, but the Giant has to chase the snow so they won’t see each other hardly at all before she leaves again.
2:10 pm on January 24th, 2014
I just looked up Oyster Shooters. They look good.
2:10 pm on January 24th, 2014
Rio: It is just any old rain, it is freezing rain. My Lady is counting herself lucky that they drove north last week to get meat for drop bags instead of this week.
2:12 pm on January 24th, 2014
Barb is back at home after her morning travels. It isn’t even snowing yet and there were still white out conditions a few times. She drove a few miles an a road that is surrounded by open fields and the wind was blowing snow over the road so badly that she couldn’t see. She says it was white-knuckle at times.
She is picking up Lyla at 3:00 and Josh wanted her to drive 14 miles to the bike shop to get Jack. We think there will need to be a change of plans.
Good to hear from Melanie. Wonder how The Storyteller and Dima are doing, also The Storyteller’s other half.
2:18 pm on January 24th, 2014
Here is a question for one of the Snowhook gang. We noticed in one of the videos on the Iditarod the other day a brief shot of a Hereford steer. We were wondering why he was in the picture, then we got to wondering if he was invited for dinner, or as dinner? There are a lot of dogs to feed and perhaps it is less expensive to bring in food “on the hoof”. Can’t think of a delicate way to ask that question, but we were reminded of a very distasteful scene in the book “Water for Elphants”. Any comments?
2:30 pm on January 24th, 2014
Barb&Maggie: No! The mushers must carry everything they need on the sled except the food they put in the drop bags which is frozen. The mushers must prepare their teams food themselves and that leaves no time for “dressing” a cow.
2:31 pm on January 24th, 2014
B: Oyster Shooters are Delish, but not for the faint of heart (like Dawson) Heh, heh.
2:32 pm on January 24th, 2014
Smoochers! Melanie would like you by her side for her apointment in a short while. Then you need to high-tail it to T&G’s folks for a quick check-in so you can then travel down Texas way to be with BooBear and his family. On three.
Mom says I must stay here by Dima’s side. He is resting comfortably thanks to his excellent nurse and smooching staff.
2:44 pm on January 24th, 2014
Kat: Thanks for checking in and organizing the Smoochers.
2:46 pm on January 24th, 2014
Melanie–You’re in my thoughts; good to hear from you and sounding a little more chipper. The metabolizing thing sounds tedious and exhausting. Courage.
BSD–What is a froggy drive? (is this about driving? golf? being in Canada?)
Kat–Please give Dima a gentle tummy-rub, nose-kiss, or whatever you think would please him best from me. I’m so happy that he’s comfortable and that you’re with him.
Everyone–Still not clear to whom some of these names refer–who is Golinka again?
Rio–Was that a photo of you?
2:49 pm on January 24th, 2014
Wose–You sound a little happier today, which makes me happy. (You’ve already done all the “What Color is Your Parachute” stuff, right?)
2:49 pm on January 24th, 2014
BearSpiritDog: It is true that I don’t like the thought of raw seafood of any kind. Not that I’ve actually tried much of it.
2:55 pm on January 24th, 2014
DianeC: Froggy is probably foggy.
Golinka = Stinky Mama = Amalia = Tupper&Gilly’s Mum = the Royal’s Mum. Golinka is a name her father or grandfather (I can’t remember which) called her and it means little stinker or perhaps skunk in their native language. That’s how I remember it anyway. Hopefully she will clarify things.
3:05 pm on January 24th, 2014
Bear: I’m having lunch with a friend next week and I think I’ll order an Oyster Shooter!
3:10 pm on January 24th, 2014
We were thinking the same thing, that BSD meant foggy.
It is very confusing when there are so many different names that apply to the same people. Amalia and Leonard Fourhawks are Native American artists and Leonard is also a teller of Native American lore. That is how he got that name on the blog. They also deliver up some of the most beautiful prayers you will ever hear. T & G are their Corgis and Basil and Sage their Norwegian Forest cats (also knows as the HerbKats). Amalia said one time that her grandfather called her Golinka as a term of endearment and Rio started calling her Golinka and Stinky Mama after that.
The Corgis are also called The Royals (due to Queen Elizabeth having that breed). You should probably print this out so you can remember all of it!
3:33 pm on January 24th, 2014
B&M: I’m not sure to which video you are referring (tail wag to Professor B), but my guess is that it may be video from a a musher’s home or possibly a checkpoint that happens to have a steer. I asked the Giant if there was a checkpoint that had cattle, he said no. The meat our team uses on the trail is, er, a little less fresh.
3:41 pm on January 24th, 2014
Gucci is not coming this weekend. The agency wants her to get retested for her UTI before giving her a clear health report. Also the weather report is not good, so we will be holding off till next weekend.
3:44 pm on January 24th, 2014
Yes, BSD meant foggy. He is hard to understand sometimes but he means well.
We, too, are anxious to hear from everyone under the quilt. ^..^
3:44 pm on January 24th, 2014
Tenzing, that is a relief (thanks to Dawson also). I am not sure which video it was, possibly one that Staff posted on Wed. There were a couple that same day. It was just such a surprise, like, Oh, what was that cow doing there?
3:48 pm on January 24th, 2014
Off to get Lyla now.
Diane, Here we are just Barb and Maggie, plain and simple. Although they sometimes call me MagPie. Nothing too hard to remember. BBL
3:48 pm on January 24th, 2014
Tenzig: Excellent sentence structure!
4:31 pm on January 24th, 2014
Stover!….Which sentence would that be?..sniff!
4:47 pm on January 24th, 2014
It is so cold here that the predicted 24 degrees tomorrow will feel like a heat wave. I’m not going out until then.
4:53 pm on January 24th, 2014
Sammie!…Are you and LuLu watching the Idol Audtions?…snort!…What do you think of Harry and Keith?…heh!heh!
4:56 pm on January 24th, 2014
Dawson and B and M–thanks for the quick tutorials. So Golinka is actually 1 of four identities/names for the same person. I know at least some of you post under multiple names, including letting various companion animals at the keyboard, but can’t tell how many.
..I actually remembered that Leonard was the Storyteller, and figured out why the corgis were the Royals, but for most of this I’m still trying to keep everyone sorted out.
No word yet from Ms. Melanie, huh?
5:01 pm on January 24th, 2014
Oh!…Brother…grunt!
Stover!…I do not remember Mr. Tenzing saying that sentence…sniff!
5:16 pm on January 24th, 2014
Rio, I forgot about American Idol. Last night we watched a Buffalo Sabres hockey game and they won! Hockey has gotten very interesting around here lately.
5:36 pm on January 24th, 2014
Sammie!…I think you will be really happy regarding the judges and the banter. My friend loves Harry. I think he is a hoot and a half…snort!
5:37 pm on January 24th, 2014
Sammie!…We have not picked the winner yet….heh!heh!…Although, all the auditions are not over so it is still early days…chorkel!
5:39 pm on January 24th, 2014
I’ll be sure to catch it next week, hockey or no hockey.
6:17 pm on January 24th, 2014
Playing Bookworm I learned a new word: hae. It’s Scottish for “to have.” (I was just trying to get rid of red tiles…and it worked.)
7:11 pm on January 24th, 2014
First, I couldn’t get a hold of Golinka and called her Dad. Golinka is next door to The Stoeyteller in the hospital. He doesn’t think it will be a long stay. Most probably the flu.
Second, I have a diagnosis. They figured out what type it is! Now two docs have to talk to two docs. Most likely chemo-embolization, in a series over a period of time.
I hope the Storyteller will not ask Golinka for anything!
7:15 pm on January 24th, 2014
Noooooo!…That flu must be something else…wheeze!…I didn’t think Golinka felt like she was that bad to be staying in the hospital…gasp!…It must really sneak up on you and knock you out…wuffle!
7:25 pm on January 24th, 2014
Smoochers: We may need back up with all those under the quilt.
The Thieves have volunteered to smooch the Storyteller believing he has a little Outlaw in him. Tenzing refuses to leave Melanie. Wyatt has offered up his services as pillow for Golinka. Savannah insists on sitting on or threatening to sit on CHobbit to keep her still is her new calling in life. Belle Starr is staying with Wose; she took extra sparkles with her for medicinal purposes only. I will blurr among each of our own under the quilt. Meash, let me know if you need back up or a break. Redbone, can you keep a paw on Miss Macy and her kin?
I wonder if there is any way we can sneak Rio out of his yard. What with his caring manner and aromatherapy techniques, everyone should be up and at ’em in no time. 🙂
7:29 pm on January 24th, 2014
This must end. Now.

7:32 pm on January 24th, 2014
Thanks for the offer Luna, but we here are all good (ish).
7:37 pm on January 24th, 2014
Mr. Redbone can keep a paw on me anytime, however!

Macy, We just saw that link on facebookie, and were going to tag you!
Dima walked outdoors, including up and over the 2-step landing! Once outside, he beelined for the birdfeeder pole and lifted his leg!!!! He is also drinking and I managed to get him to take some syringes of food. He may be turning the corner. So I gave Kat permission to go help BooBear with his smooching of his ‘rents.
7:52 pm on January 24th, 2014
Burgers!…And fries!…burp!…Who doesn’t love burgers and fries and extra pickles!….snort!
Dima!…That guy is a fighter!….Wooooo!
8:11 pm on January 24th, 2014
Dima is Amazing!!!
8:14 pm on January 24th, 2014
Sometimes the need to lift one’s leg can work wonders for getting up and walking. Go Dima!
8:16 pm on January 24th, 2014
Howlers, I was just looking at your weather link. It said that the actual temp was 11.7, but the feels like temp is 12. Ah, much better!
Belle Starr, this is for you.

8:19 pm on January 24th, 2014
Macy: Yeep! Try to keep calm. We will send in supplies until this dreadful “storm” is over.
8:24 pm on January 24th, 2014
Miss Macy’s Mom: I must have that baby black and white or I’m going to be in a very bad mood. I’ve never had a panda bear before even though my Two-Legged called me her little panda bear before I got my name. I was adorable.
8:35 pm on January 24th, 2014
Bellie, I have no doubt that you were and are adorable. Can’t wait to meet you.
8:41 pm on January 24th, 2014
Miss Macy’s Mom: I know the Thieves have call dibs on being your escort, but you need to know, despite what they say, I am in charge. I can’t stress this enough.
9:10 pm on January 24th, 2014
Bellie!….I think we should take bets on how many pairs of plunderer boots Bellie will splort! or pee on when youse guys are visiting up North…heh!heh!
9:36 pm on January 24th, 2014
Our winter has gone south for winter AND Sadie has started shedding. GAH!
9:51 pm on January 24th, 2014
CHobbit!….I have faith winter will return in time for the Last Great Race…snort!….Mother Nature cannot and will not be so cruel to us after all the work AJ and the Team have put in on training…sniff!…Not to mention all the work we here have done to raise funds and not to mention all the plunderers that have bought plane tickets and new coats for the big trip north….wuffle!….Winter will return and the race will be awesome!…snorkel!
9:55 pm on January 24th, 2014
Favorite Pug: That’s the spirit! AJ has to chase the snow. He plans to truck north to train this weekend.
9:57 pm on January 24th, 2014
Wio: Will I splort when the Plunderers come north to Alaska? —Proudly. Gladly. Definitely.
10:01 pm on January 24th, 2014
Pug, lady dogs do not pee on people, gah.
10:09 pm on January 24th, 2014
MinPin!…Wanna bet?…snort!….Bellie will pee all over yo’mama, just you wait and see…heh!heh!
10:10 pm on January 24th, 2014
Grump!….Why does my keyboard keep jumping letters all over the damned place….growl!
10:20 pm on January 24th, 2014
GOlinka is in the hospital too???? Oh my Dog who will feed the dogs? oh yeah. Grandpa lives there too. I bet he is busier than a one armed paper hanger feeding those hungry dogs.
DIMA! You’re the Dog!
Those smoochers are busy too. They are running all over the place. Good thing they know how to Blurrrrr.
Well if we can’t see the Iditarod we will just have to have lots of fun in other ways. Where are those quilt shops again? ah… CHobbit do you have a sewing machine at the hobbit hotel?
DianeC. I am staff to two cats. Alice M. Johnson and AbbietheKitty. They occasionally post and the forget to log off and that makes Rio happy. Mr.Staff is married to me (he is so lucky). I have two sisters on the blog also. Dawson is the middle sister and my baby sister, A Catty Librarian, is Mom to Elliot the massage cat. We envy her a massage cat. She works in a library all day and is on the computer for work so she doesn’t blog much. sniff.
10:21 pm on January 24th, 2014
I make no promises either way. I will play it by paw.
10:23 pm on January 24th, 2014
Carpola! Too much snow for the Super Bowl and not enough for the Last Great Race. This old world has gone topsy-turvy. Looks like somebody got their winter orders mixed up. The Farmer’s Almanac is calling it a “drunken jetstream”
10:24 pm on January 24th, 2014
Staff!….Glad you finally showed up…grunt!….The Fern pot-holder showed up in today’s mail. My friend is super happy with it. This is the closest to a real chicken we here will get…chorkel!
10:26 pm on January 24th, 2014
Maskers!…Does the Farmers Almanac predict when it will sober up?….wheeze!
10:43 pm on January 24th, 2014
Riö: Those guys are congratulating themselves on having predicted the unusual weather conditions correctly.

10:55 pm on January 24th, 2014
Rio glad you got yours. I wonder if the other one has gotten to it’s destination.
10:57 pm on January 24th, 2014
Maskers!….grunt!…Well, I’ll be…sniff!
Sci-Fy!….Say Maskers, are you and Bear watching the new sci-fi series called, “Helix”?…sniff!…It is set up in the Arctic…heh!heh!
11:17 pm on January 24th, 2014
Dawson please check your SDD.
11:29 pm on January 24th, 2014
Helix. Do you recommend it, Riö? If so we might give it a go.
11:33 pm on January 24th, 2014
Maskers!….I do recommend it…snort!…We watched episode 3 tonight and it is getting very interesting indeed….sniff!…My friend is a germaphobe so this show kinda freaks her out…heh!heh!
11:34 pm on January 24th, 2014
Global Climate Change. Do we still have non believers?
Snowing again here, what else! Nighty noodles. Oh, and Diane C, Slave to 3 Dogs, we started saying that because, evidently, they say that in Australia.
11:34 pm on January 24th, 2014
GAH!…grunt!
11:35 pm on January 24th, 2014
Global!…OH, so now they are calling it Global Climate Change instead of Global Warming?….guffaw!…What a load of bull-crapola…sniff!sniff!
11:39 pm on January 24th, 2014
Riö: The first 3 episodes of Helix are online…we are going to watch it…see all youse kool kats & dawgs mañana ^..^
11:41 pm on January 24th, 2014
Maskers!….Be sure to take along a barfie-bag….gag!…Black stuff…gah!
11:49 pm on January 24th, 2014
Staff: no sewing in the Hobbit Hotel (I do have my mom’s all-metal sewing machine dating from the late 1940s or early 1950s). Winter will return and us Alaskans will be missing this warm spell. People are out on the Iditarod and Yukon Quest trails. Right now there are open rivers rather than frozen ones. Hopefully that will change.
11:59 pm on January 24th, 2014
Drunken!…Now the way I see it is all this weird weather is actually happening “early”…snort!….The Iditarod does not start for a whole month, the Supper Bowl does not start till next weekend…wheeze!…Time is on our sides. Mother Nature will sober up and decide all this partying is not what it’s cracked up to be and get back to normal…heh!heh!
12:00 am on January 25th, 2014
YEEP!!!
12:02 am on January 25th, 2014
Maskers!…heh!heh!…snort!
12:14 am on January 25th, 2014
My Two-legged has a sewing machine. It scares us—by us, I mean me, mama, Tenzing, and the Giant—every time she uses it. Such language!
1:00 am on January 25th, 2014
Belle Starr – I wonder if your 2-legged uses the same language I use in city traffic. I figure I need to clean up my act by Feb 25 (or the 18th if I get to see Macy’s Mom after she arrives)
1:05 am on January 25th, 2014
Mom was just on google maps and dropped by CHobbit’s Hotel. Pretty. We like the front deck.
7:18 am on January 25th, 2014
GO DIMA! What good news.
Staff–Thank you for clarifying–I’ll need to write all this down. Hey! I am a substitute librarian in my little ( 1 branch only) town.
Belle Starr–If it’s any comfort, sewing machines scare me, too. I’m not crazy about the vacuum cleaner, either,
