Go Snowhook! And good luck in the race.

I wonder what the history is of the Native American name Beargrease.

Diane, early day for you, lady. Posted at 5:48 a.m. on the west coast, right?

Good morning! Going back to check out the link to the race from yesterday. Also, I wish Snowbella or the Giant would post the starting lineup for the race. We are sure that Harris will be running lead dog again! She has proven herself.

Does anyone have an idea of how long it takes to run the Beargrease race?

Also (my thoughts entirely) I think that the Giant will be running in the Iditarod again next year! Sometimes, you have to take time to regroup.

BooBear, if you click at the bottom of the picture that was posted this morning there are lots of facts about the bear grease race. It says that the marathon race 319 miles is done in about five days.

I read that John Beargrease was from the Ojibwe tribe, and was born in 1858, died 1910. He married at age 19 and had 11 or 12 children. He had many occupations but mostly is known for 20 years of mail delivery, usually by dog team. I did not learn anything about origin of name, but his father was also known as John Beargrease.

Chattanooga, Tennessee to Duluth, Minnesota is about 1050 miles. Close to the Iditarod distance. We’d go to Duluth, but these hounds won’t haul ????. Keep us posted.

We just played with some distance numbers. It looks like 4th thru 8th in the Iditarod run about 87 miles daily. The John Beargrease marathon runners go
about 63 miles daily. Sheesh, we count ourselves lucky if our lazy mom goes
    any miles daily ????
