Go Snowhook!
“Ceremonial start of the Iditarod is today,” says Spence. “And it can be watched for free at www.iditarod.com starting at 9:30 AM Alaska time, which is 1:30 PM Eastern. For newcomers here our team is the wonderfully humane Snowhook Kennel, featuring musher Justin Savidis, CEO Rebecca Savidis, and the most beautiful dogs you can imagine.”
“CBS in Alaska did a piece on Snowhook yesterday,” Admin says. “Which you can see here:”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEmXtRR7QtI
“And a special shoutout to Rose, one of our blog Plunderers, who will be at the start live and in person.”
Welcome Sandi & Zeva, Benji from Bradenton FL.

Good Morning! What an exciting day! Wooooooo!!!!!!
We couldn’t wait for Admin to open up today’s blog, and we are so happy it is all about the Ceremonial Start and Snowhook!!!! And a tip of the hat to our Wose…how cool is that!
Oh yeah, and it’s Pop’s birthday (he made us add that).
8:03 am on March 2nd, 2013
Yawn…too early but HOH needs to say TY to Alice for the Anchorage web cam link. And to all who showed mom what to do with refresh button, helps with web link 🙂 And Melanie, we HOH need to send the pack the 9 Dog rules for humans…he,he,he, you’ll love ’em. For now, rule 7: “Don’t move me while I’m sleeping sideways in the middle of the bed, you have enough room on the edge.”
Busy day! Luck to AJ, et al.
8:09 am on March 2nd, 2013
Very complete information from Spence and Admin. Go Snowhook!
Good morning all.
8:17 am on March 2nd, 2013
HOH! How were you refreshing the blog page previously? We are curious.
8:28 am on March 2nd, 2013
Good morning. Big day here! And our buddy, Rio, is over on top. Does it get any better!
8:35 am on March 2nd, 2013
OH: only way mom’s pea-brain could computer think, close & open each time 🙁
8:40 am on March 2nd, 2013
Thanks, HOH. Our mom works on computers all day long, and there are a lot of things she just takes for granted that everyone knows. But if you don’t work on computers for a living, or if your person doesn’t work on computers in order to buy your kibble and treats, how could you? Maybe this here blog ought to specigy that instruction at the top.
8:49 am on March 2nd, 2013
What a great opening post by Spence and Admin to start this very important day (including OH’s dad’s birthday). And what a great post from our Wose last night (or early this morning from us East Coasteners). Wose, we are so happy for you and the Prof, and proud of you too for undertaking this incredible journey and representing all of the rest of the Plunderers at the start of the Iditarod.
8:57 am on March 2nd, 2013
Ditto what Wookie’s dad said, Rose. You had an incredibly difficult trip, yet you and the Prof plundered on. We really are proud of you, and happy for you to represent all of us.
Did youse guys see that A.J. has more fans on the Forums than anyone, including LM? Woo and Hoo! Plunderer Power!
9:01 am on March 2nd, 2013
Happy day today!
I think that it is worth mentioning that both AJ and Rebecca hold full time jobs and are running the kennels without a single handler.
9:08 am on March 2nd, 2013
Wolfie, That was part of the discussion on the Forum thread that Rio started under Race Talk.
We just brought up the Iditarod GPS tracker, just for fun, and what do you know? One guy, #66, is showing up already? heh heh…We think he has his tracker on him while he is sleeping in Willow.
9:08 am on March 2nd, 2013
Have any ipaw used been able to download the preview video?
9:10 am on March 2nd, 2013
USERS! Not used! USERS!
9:20 am on March 2nd, 2013
Wolfie, We can’t download it on our iPaw or our p.c.
9:33 am on March 2nd, 2013
O.K. It’s our Quicktime…needs an update. We are trying that now.
9:42 am on March 2nd, 2013
Happy Iditarod Day to Snowhook and all of us!
Spence, Thank you for the great opening post.
North To Alaska! GO SNOWHOOK!
Happy Birthday to the Howlers pop!
9:53 am on March 2nd, 2013
The Race Preview is now (finally) downloading, although it is huge and going to take a long time on our slow DSL. So if youse can’t get it to download on a p.c., upgrade your Quicktime. Do a Google or Bing search for quicktime to find a link to quicktime.
10:11 am on March 2nd, 2013
Rio, I found your baseball post on the forums. I am laughing. That is a good one.
Rose, Thank you for your post last night. Have fun today! We are all proud of you and the professor.
Junior made the team! WOO WOO
Fellow Sibers, I posted on the Mike Ellis thread.
10:15 am on March 2nd, 2013
Staff finally has video access. They had de activated her account after she re-upped. Snarl. But all is OK now and she is a happy camper.
Going to see if the street is full of snow now…
and feed Dad..
BBL
10:17 am on March 2nd, 2013
Siber, we’ll post there too. Also, one of the folks on Rio’s thread put in a plug for our kind, and we thanked her. Check it out.
10:17 am on March 2nd, 2013
Hurray for Staff! (We were worried).
10:20 am on March 2nd, 2013
They have snow down on the road in Anchorage!!!
http://www.borealisbroadband.net/vid-4thandd.htm
10:26 am on March 2nd, 2013
Happy Birthday to Oley’s Dad!
10:34 am on March 2nd, 2013
Fellow Sibers, I did read it. I decided not to get into a discussion of Siberian and Alaskan Huskies over there. I do not take offense at the term, Slowberians. All Huskies are great! All dogs are great! Dogs Rule!
I’m glad they got Staff’s video problem fixed. Is Dawson still having video problems?
Before the start of the race, I will be in and out of the blog. Our neighbor made an appointment at nine this morning for our two houses to get their septic tanks cleaned out. They save money by having a truck come out and do two houses together. Doing it today would not have been mom’s choice, but that is what she gets for letting the nice neighbor make the phone calls and plan it.
10:36 am on March 2nd, 2013
Hi Rose!
It’s Siber up top.
Happy Birthday, Oley’s Pop!!
It’s going to be a great day for the Ceremonial Start in Anchorage!

10:37 am on March 2nd, 2013
Happy birthday to Howlers’ pop.
10:47 am on March 2nd, 2013
We apologize in advance for asking this, but could someone repost how to change the names on our profile on the Iditarod website? We have looked back several days and cannot find it. And we want to post on AJ’s site! Did y’all see that someone called us rabid fans?. Heh,heh!! If they only knew…
10:51 am on March 2nd, 2013
Gus and BooBear…All you have to do is click on community…profile…edit
11:00 am on March 2nd, 2013
Thank you, SiberH!! We knew it was simple, but kept ending up at “change avatar”. Now it’s done and we can send good wishes to AJ.
11:00 am on March 2nd, 2013
G&BB, That was our own rabid fan C.Hobbit who called us that.
The rents have to go run errands now, so that they are back on time. Mom won’t let us use the iPaw because she wants it fully charged for the RBR (Really Big Race).
Siber, we agree. We still wanted to thank that person. And btw, you can call Couch Potato Dima slow, and you can call Fireplace Kat slow, and you can even call Wheel Dog Meashka slow. But nobody could call Sasha slow, and live to tell the tale. heh heh
11:07 am on March 2nd, 2013
Thanks Chet, Spence and Admin for the link and Shout-out to Our Wose, who exemplifies the true definition of a Plunderer.
She and the Professor plundered on Against All Odds. Neither snow, nor sleet, nor dark of night could keep these intrepid travelers from reaching their Destination.
So…if the Ceremonial Start begins at 9:30 There it will be 10:30 Here…right, Wolfie?
C.Hobbit: We just saw either Lady or Sadie Bear up top…the caption was: “I belong to C.Harris.”
BTW: How is your jaw feeling this morning?
O’Howlers: Let the Celebration begin! (continue)
11:12 am on March 2nd, 2013
Bear, Yes, 10:30 your time.
11:13 am on March 2nd, 2013
Bear, that is correct. They are one hour behind us. Dad signed them up for photos today at 11:30. Yikes! The photographers had better be schedule so that we can get in and out quickly, that’s all I gotta say! (With apologies to Bee for the bad grammer.)
11:19 am on March 2nd, 2013
Thanks, Siber-H and Wolfie! This appears to be Bad Timing for you both having appointments interfering with Race Time.
Hounds: Our method of Refreshing in the Past was the same as yours…the round-a-bout kind. Heh.
11:20 am on March 2nd, 2013
I am going to check with my mama about taking all youse to the next low cost rabies clinic. 😉
Good morning! Thanks to Spence for kicking off today with his post. My mama says CEO sounds like a fancy title, but she says it really stands for Chief Everything-else Office. She does get her own parking space though.
11:22 am on March 2nd, 2013
Bear: my jaw is still stiff but I am eating real food. Good thing as I was making myself sick on chocolate. My sister lives in Anchorage and will be on 4th Avenue watching the start so I will be represented in abstencia (or whatever that word is)
11:31 am on March 2nd, 2013
C.Hobbit: Sounds like there has been some improvement today…as you can at least Eat now…which is Most Important in my opinion.
It would be Great if your sister could meet up with Rose, the Prof, AJ and Rebecca at the Start.
11:38 am on March 2nd, 2013
Okay, mom wants me to ask a really dumb question. As an Iditarod Insider, are we able to watch GCI Channel one, live streaming? And if so, how? And if not, why not?
Heh.
11:44 am on March 2nd, 2013
Wolfie, As an Insider, you will be able to watch the live streaming of the start on the Iditarod’s website. There will be a link on the home page when the coverage starts.
I don’t know what GCI Channel one is.
11:46 am on March 2nd, 2013
Forum!…Wow, there is a lot of good discussion out there on my topic…snort!…I’m glad SiberH caught the baseball quip…heh!
Busy!…Been a busy-bee kind of morning around here. Someone was on the phone forever with a banker. She is going to refinance my other house and lower the payments by a ba-zillion dollars!…Woooo!…More money in our treatie fund, which ultimately ends up at Snowhook somehow…grunt!
11:52 am on March 2nd, 2013
Sun’s up in Anchorage. Looks beuuuuutiful on Alice’s web cam.
Glad C.Hobbit is doing better. And Wolfie, thanks for computer impaired vote. As long as we get there! All doggie buns here are wiggling in anticipation.
11:53 am on March 2nd, 2013
Excitement!…I’m all Poodled-Up again…Wooooo!…In fact I am doubly Poodled-Up – I can hardly stand it….gruffle!
11:58 am on March 2nd, 2013
SiberH!….Did you read the comments on Page 2 about the SiberH’s??….heh!
12:13 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I wonder when they will make the pickup and the little red car move out of the start chute? I don’t remember seeing them in prior years…?
12:31 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Look at all the people getting their pictures taken on the street under the start sign. I wonder if Rose has her picture taken there yet?
12:58 pm on March 2nd, 2013
What’s up here? Is everyone at the Iditarod site? I am all alone….sniff
1:03 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I’m back Alice.
Rio, Yes, I saw the comments on your thread about Sibers. I will be interested next year in the girl that maybe will run a team of rescued Sibers in the Iditarod.
1:06 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Alice, We are here, but Barb says it is her nap time now….BBL
1:07 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Don”t worry, Alice. All paws on deck and doing double dooty…er,duty. Sorry, Rio.
1:17 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Snowhook has an adorable cake posted on their facebookie page. I wonder if it was baked and decorated by Jodi, the person, not the dog.
1:18 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Here!…I’m here! I was upstairs supervising stuff but now I am all here for the start of the race…snort!
1:24 pm on March 2nd, 2013
The excitement is mounting. I can’t stand it
1:32 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Live!….When will the live feed start? Does anyone know where it will be on the website?….grunt!
1:36 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Rio, I have been searching for it and I find no live coverage yet. I thought it would begin 30 minutes before the actual start of the race.
1:39 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Lunch!….I have to go upstairs and beg for lunch – I hope I don’t miss anything…wheeze!
1:39 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Others on the Forums can’t find the live feed either.
1:41 pm on March 2nd, 2013
The main page says the live feed will start momentarily.
1:42 pm on March 2nd, 2013
The live feed will be starting shortly.
1:42 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Neither can I and they said it would start 1/2 hour before the race.
1:49 pm on March 2nd, 2013
This is on the official site under help/video/
If I am reading this correctly 2p.m. AST is 6 p.m. Central time?
That is HOURS from now….sniff
The race start will be streamed live on the Official Start of Iditarod 41 at 2pm AST, with our live pre-race coverage beginning at 1:30pm AST. You will need to be an Insider and logged in to view the stream.
Our live broadcast will be available in 3 bandwidths, to accommodate a wide range of connection speeds and hi-def video. If the stream pauses and buffers (icon in the middle of the screen spins) you may not have a fast enough connection to the Internet to view the live stream.
We will post a rebroadcast of the video that should be easier for Insiders to view with slower Internet connections.
Insider subscribers must be logged in and have the latest version of Flash installed (check here) to view the stream. Please note that this year the Official Start will be available for iOS, Android and Windows devices.
1:49 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Ididarod.com has posted a note that the live feed will start momentarily. Maybe that’s where we’ll find it. I, too, have been searching with no results until now.
1:50 pm on March 2nd, 2013

Wolfie, we believe tha facebookie cake is the one Kat took uo to Mass. For the Big One Woman BDHW Show.
1:53 pm on March 2nd, 2013
That wasn’t an attempt to fake anyone out. Go to Iditarod.com, not Ididarod.com.
The stream is supposed to start in about 5 minutes.
1:54 pm on March 2nd, 2013
We Plunderers are known for many things, but patience is not one of them!
1:56 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Kat made a cake? Without eating it first? Wow. I am impressed!

2:18 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Fast!…This is moving pretty fast – Snowhook will be up in no time flat. It will go so quickly, so everyone keep their eyes peeled for Rose and the Prof…heh!
2:20 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Rio, it is our t.v. We watch it via laptop.
2:20 pm on March 2nd, 2013

Macy – are you on?
2:22 pm on March 2nd, 2013
WOOOOO HOOOOOOO- John Baker!
2:22 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Thanks everybuddy. We are in the loop now and can quit freaking out. Anyone have the popcorn? All we have is animal crackers.
2:23 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Who is A.J.’s Iditarider?
2:26 pm on March 2nd, 2013
We got all sorts of snacks, but not popcorn (yet).
2:28 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Daddy just opened a gigantic box of Italian butter cookies that he has been saving just for this party.
Mama feels some pounds coming on.
2:29 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Breaks!…I really hope they don’t go to a break when Snowhook comes up…sniff!…Or do the small screen bio-crap. I want to see everything full screen!…snort!
2:39 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Rio, That would really poodle us up.
2:43 pm on March 2nd, 2013
OMD, guys. Just got home. Thanks for the help finding the screen. Wish we could all be together!
2:45 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Grump!…They could have done this fan interview thing before the teams started ….grumble!…All these interuptions are making me nervous and poodled up in a very bad way…wheeze!
2:46 pm on March 2nd, 2013
If they break or do a stupid interview when our team comes up, we are demanding a refund.
2:47 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I will be putting on the Iditarod in just a second.
Had a blast at the Wedding thingy. My niece became and hairstyle and makeup model! Then she won a Glamour Shot Shoot!
What fun . . Here you go . .
2:49 pm on March 2nd, 2013
It’s snowing here. Just flurries, but…PERFECT!
2:50 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I only watched the fan thing in case it was Wose or the Prof.
We are eating Mi-del Swedish gingersnaps while we watch. I can only have 5. Sob. Then I have to be good.
2:53 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Wow. DeeDee Jonrowe is 59! She sure looks good.
2:56 pm on March 2nd, 2013
We are hoping they do a commercial after #32!
2:57 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Jan Steeves was 55 in her first Iditarod. Doesn’t that mean Mom could start now?
heh heh heh…what a joke!
2:58 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Close!…So very close!…snort!…Now I am getting nervous – why?…sniff!
3:00 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Only 3 people to Justin. I hope they don’t advertise over him…
3:00 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Why are they on this old geezer? We are missing the sled teams!
3:01 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Hairy!…What the HELL!…Git that hairy bastard off the screen..grump!
3:03 pm on March 2nd, 2013
NOW NOW NOW!!
3:03 pm on March 2nd, 2013
The dogs next in line on the webcam all have rectangular patches on their jackets. The jackets are mostly black….
3:05 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Yeah Snowhook. Looking good!
3:05 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Freakin announcers!
3:05 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Well, that was crappy coverage!
3:06 pm on March 2nd, 2013
What the? they didn’t say ANYTHING about OUR TEAM! damit!
3:07 pm on March 2nd, 2013
HATE THE ANNOUNCERS!!!
3:07 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Did anyone see Rose and the Prof? We didn’t – we are just wondering.
3:07 pm on March 2nd, 2013
These announcers suck bigtime. Never talked about A.J.!!!!! They just babbled on. Grrrrr
But our team looks awesome! Great shots of all of them, especially Quig and Twig. And A.J. And Rebecca look great and happy! Did anyone see Rose and the Prof?
3:07 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Dammit!…Not one Dawg-Damned word about AJ and Rebecca…grump!…What a couple of LOSERS on the announcing team…sniff!…Makes me so mad. Maybe tomorrow they will be more professional…grump!…I did not see Rose or the Prof…did any of youse guys?
3:08 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Grabbed some shots. .
3:08 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Great video of AJ, Rebecca, and the Snowhook dogs! I am happy with their photography of Snowhook.
I saw the Chet the Dog patches. WOO WOO
3:08 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I love it when the dogs jump up and want to start. Rebecca was on the sled with AJ and the dogs had Chet patches on their jackets. Everyone lookes great!
3:08 pm on March 2nd, 2013
We agree. We was robbed. On the real start tomorrow, there had better be better commentary about Snowhook or there will be consequences.
3:08 pm on March 2nd, 2013
3:09 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Leaders!…Quig and Twig looked awesome in their black jackets and Chet The Dog patch could be seen clearly…snort!
3:09 pm on March 2nd, 2013
3:09 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I am in total agreement with the fact that the announcers suck big time.
3:09 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Thanks, Melanie. The camera guys did a good job.
3:10 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Ok I guess if you’re not predicted to be in the top 10 they don’t care about you. Grrrrrr!
3:10 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Love the black dog coats and…patches 🙂 Beautiful dogs.
Thanks, Melanie.
3:12 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Great pictures Melanie! Thank you. (Your niece is beautiful, by the way.)
Now you know one reason why I don’t usually watch sporting events: The announcers think they have to yap, yap, yap the entire time.
3:13 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I didn’t see Rose and the Prof but the shots of the dogs were great. I could even read the chetthedog.com on the patches. AJ and Rebecca look wonderful- love the new Stormy Kromer she’s wearing!
I can either post or watch the video so see ya later.
What a beautiful day for a birthday, OleyHowlers Dad. Happy birthday to you, and many more.
3:14 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Grrrr. We can’t hardly stand to listen to those Losers after the Crappy Coverage.
Sniff. Neither of those women in the photo is our Rose.
On a Pawsitive Side…AJ and Rebecca look Very Happy and there were Good Shots of the Team.
3:17 pm on March 2nd, 2013
And…the Fabulous Chet-The-Dog Patches!
3:18 pm on March 2nd, 2013
1:08:40 is where Snowhook starts. You can go back to it and watch it over…
3:19 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Rewind!…Youse guys know you can rewind back and watch the Snowhook again and again, right?…heh!heh!….Thats what Beau and I have been doing…snort!
3:19 pm on March 2nd, 2013
If you are one of the blonde twins the announcers will talk about you.
3:20 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Yikes!…Alice and I are on the same brain-wave…wheeze!
3:20 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Will we see the teams when they come back?
3:22 pm on March 2nd, 2013
And you can turn off the video so you don’t have to listen to those blowhards. At least we didn’t have to watch a commercial. I wonder what happened when AJ and Rebecca looked at each other and laughed?
Rebecca’s hat is darker pink this year.
3:23 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Whew, that was great. I wasn’t listening to the announcers. Now I’m glad I didn’t.
Where do they end up today?
3:25 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Mom is poodled up. She posted her displeasure in the Insider facebookie page, as well as on the Forums.
Can we replay this after it’s all over?
3:26 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Rose!…No sign of Rose anywhere, and I watched it several times…sneeze!
3:28 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Howlers!…User your mouse on the timeline at the bottom to go back to when Snowhook started..Time of 1:08:40…snort!
3:29 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I think that AJ is wearing a Stormy Kromer also.
3:31 pm on March 2nd, 2013
OK – so next year, we make a national flag of STOVERNIA thatAJ canhold up. That wayn the #$$%#@$^@$ announcers will pay attention to him!
3:32 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Luckily the church had wifi so mom was able to watch the start. Snowhook is looking great!
3:35 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Melanie!…Can you get a snapshot of Quig and Twig sporting the patches?…snort!
3:38 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Mike Ellis’ Sibes looked great. But the website got the bib number wrong.
3:42 pm on March 2nd, 2013
This is the best I can do. When you stop the recording of it an arrow appears. I worked around that, I’ll try tomorrow.
3:44 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Grrr. On top of it all…Scratchy Sound…this coverage Splorts Big-Time.
Dog knows the announcers covering the Re-Start in Willow tomorrow better be on top of things…can’t help but remember the 2 Losers from last year.
3:45 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Great job, Melanie.
We rewound and watched A.J. Again. But will we be able to do that after this live stream is over?
3:45 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Melanie: Thank You for the Great Photos.
3:46 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Does anyone know how to rewatch it on an ipaw?
Good idea, Royals. Stovernia can be an official sponsor next year!
3:46 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Thanks B.Stover. My niece was floored when she saw herself. She said, “This is how I want to look at my wedding.” I will be making and paying for her appointment on Monday.
My sister will be going with her on the Glamor Shot. Everyone here cried.
My niece has picked her “borrowed” item(s). She will be wearing one of Zoë’s rings and her Great Great Grandmother’s Cameo Brooch.
3:49 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Same way, Wolfie. Put your paw on the time bar. It is at the top if you are fullscreen (tap the screen to see it).
3:52 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Thank you Melanie for the photos, great shots. And your niece will be a beautiful bride!
Wonder if today will be a record # of posts!
3:58 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Melanie: I think that your niece’s picks for “something borrowed” are wonderful.
3:59 pm on March 2nd, 2013
So now the announcers tell us that “Cindy Abbott has some sort of rare disease, and she is racing to publicize the disease but we don’t know what the disease is…something to do with blood.”
They are the worst announcers!
4:02 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Melanie, your niece is beautiful!
4:05 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Wooo
I like the dogs from Russia. Maybe Natasha knows some of them.
4:14 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Say it isn’t so! They just announced they will be at the restart tomorrow.
4:15 pm on March 2nd, 2013
We like those Chuchki(?) dogs too.
We also enjoyed the cracks about seeing Russia. heh heh
4:17 pm on March 2nd, 2013
We could hear other voices in the background…some other live feed…it’s too late now. sob.
4:20 pm on March 2nd, 2013
NO!…Those announcers are going to be there for the real start?…grump!grump!spit!….My friend was so upset she said to hell with it and made us go on a really long walk….grump!again!
4:28 pm on March 2nd, 2013
My Advice Is to drown our sorrows in Food and Grog.
That’s what I’m going to do Now.
BBL
4:40 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Maybe if everyone posts something on the Idutarod web site about one of the most popular mushers being ignored at the start so the announcers could listen to their own voices prattling on about how dogs were worth their weight in gold.
HA! We still ARE!
We have to go now. But we will be back for 9 pm (EST) for the first Plunder Prayer.
4:53 pm on March 2nd, 2013
If you get tired of the announcers, just turn off the audio.
4:56 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Announcers!…I will be turning them off tomorrow – except when Snowhook comes on scene just in case they decide to say something about our team…grunt!
5:01 pm on March 2nd, 2013
But, B, we DID want to hear about Justin Savidis, bib #34, Rebecca and the Snowhook team.
There was so much to talk about: the Chet patches, Whitey-Lance,
Norton Sound…
Everyone: check your SDDs.
5:04 pm on March 2nd, 2013
We don’t need to “hear” about the mushers. The full bios are on the Iditarod site.
5:12 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Masquers, I replied to your SDD, but I have no idea if I sent it to just you or all of you. What would life be without mysteries.
5:15 pm on March 2nd, 2013
SiberH!…There is a “Reply To All” button or selection on your email somewhere, isn’t there?…heh!snort!heh!
5:20 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Siber: Your message came through only to me.
Don’t feel bad. Mom can’t figure out how to send a SDD to more than one without listing the recipients individually.
sadly signed TechNoKat
5:27 pm on March 2nd, 2013
B: Sniff. We still feel slighted and say the oversight is inexcusable.
Getting on my soapbox: Every musher DESERVES to be recognized by the announcers!!!
As one person on facebookie commented: “Insider TV announcer/host on 4th Ave talks too much about other things and left out some Musher profiles while they were on the Line…what a waste and disrespect to other mushers and their dogs.” Quote/unquote.
5:30 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Rio, I looked for that reply to all, which is sometimes there, but it wasn’t there when I emailed Masquers…..sigh
5:33 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Watching live action is different than reading a bio. There are only 66 mushers and 2 hours of coverage. How hard would it be to mention a little about each musher and his or her kennel. They almost didn’t get AJs name out before he left. The camera work was outstanding but the commentary did not match that quality. Just sayin’
5:36 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Siber-H: If you click on your “reply” button you should get a pull-down menu. “Reply to all” is usually the first selection.
“End of quote” not “unquote.”
And…”I” is always the subject of a sentence; “me” is the object and never the subject. (This is from something several days ago.) I’ll stop now.
5:41 pm on March 2nd, 2013
GLAD asks if we will take her email address off of the blast emails.
It’s her work email and the pictures sort of take up all the space in her account.
I had a great nap. At least I think it was great. I was really out of it.
I will be back later.
5:43 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Unquote!…heh!snort!heh!…I don’t think I have ever heard that expression before…chorkel!
5:44 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Email!…Speaking of taking people off the email to Everyone, I would suggest you leave Spencer Quinn off of those…snort!…He may or may not like getting them. But who wants to risk annoying the little fellow…heh!heh!
5:44 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Stover, My reply button does not have a drop down menu. If I say Century Link, the company, is my email server you probably won’t know who I am talking about, but Rio will. They are like from the Dark Ages.
Howler’s Pop…very well said.
5:46 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Stover!…Many have tried to help and many have failed….heh!
5:58 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Rio: It used to be my job.
5:59 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Streaming!…I have expressed disappointment on the Race Talk forum under “streaming” – what good it will do, who knows….grunt!…Onward and upward!
6:16 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Isn’t it funny that everyone in Alaska has big parties the night before the Iditarod? Not only our guys at the Snow-b-que. but also the Insider had an article up last night about countless parties that the mushers and fans attend. We thought they would all be resting up and getting fortified. heh heh! Alaska is the most fun place in the world!
6:22 pm on March 2nd, 2013
B: Snicker. Right you are! http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=quote%20unquote
6:35 pm on March 2nd, 2013
#34 was one of many to be nearly ignored by the announcers. I never heard them mention Christine Roaloafs (sp)name because they were busy interviewing Joe Runyan. It drives me crazy when the media reports on itself, especially when it pre-empts the real story we are there to hear and see; the dogs and mushers. That said, I adore Sebastian Schunelle’s (again, sp) quote, when asked if he predicted Aliy Zirkle to win, “I like Aliy Zirkle but I really like her dogs”.
6:38 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Pay no attention to that other guy here. This is not like him at all. Perhaps a tad too much Catnip we are thinking?
I forgot. How long does it take to get from the Ceremonial Start in Anchorage to the Restart in Willow?
6:39 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Dawson, We agree with everything you said. The Norwegian guy was ignored totally, as were so many others. And yes, we did like when that guy said he really likes Ally’s dogs.
6:40 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Bear, they all drive home and then back to Willow tomorrow.
6:42 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Expect for those who don’t live near the start of the Race. I wonder what they do????
6:44 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Patsy is next to me explaining that I will NOT be going anywhere without her for QUITE SOMETIME, thank you very much!
6:45 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Melanie!…That would be an excellant Forum Topic…snort!…Go for it! Maybe we will all learn a thing or two…heh!
6:46 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I also really like Sebastian Schunelle.
Bear, They will truck the dogs to the re-start in Willow. That is done because there is too much civilization between Anchorage and Willow for there to be a safe trail for the teams.
6:50 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Camping!…I bet a lot of them camp out and play their harmonicas to the A-Team’s around the campfire…snort!
6:58 pm on March 2nd, 2013
OMD! Who posted on AJ’s page in the Forums under Buddycat? Too funny. 🙂
7:03 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Thanks, Wookie’s Dad, for starting the new Forum Topic on Equal Time for All Racers.
7:03 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I can just hear those harmonicas, tambourines and fiddles just tuning to the music of the stars!
Funny story: I was surrounded by thousands of brides (well, it felt like it) and they were talking about their registry stuff. In my day, you registered at one store. They have all different kinds of stores. Anyhoo, they were talking about the pros and cons of food processors. My brain goes on a holiday thinking about what kind of dog food soup Zoë could make with a food processor, and if she did, I probably would never want to use the thing again.
When my niece says something about registering for a Mandolin. Now how she got from a food processor to a Mandolin is beyond me, I probably should have been listening, but I am weary at this point.
Then it hits me, she and her Intended don’t play stringed instruments. So I asked her why she wanted a Mandolin?
It’s some sort of slicer.
She KNEW that I thought she was talking about the musical instrument and everyone had a grand time laughing. Maybe I should watch more TV ads? Naaaaaah
7:10 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Howlers!…That was Blu-Kat who posted out there about cheesecake…heh!snort!heh!
7:16 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Today was excitement. Tomorrow I will have to start worrying for the next 10 days.
7:18 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Melanie, Melanie, Melanie….
sigh…
Have we taught you NOTHING about basic kitchen equipment?
7:19 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Melanie. I made the same mistake once myself. Debbie told me that a friend of hers was giving her the mandolin as a present, which she had always wanted. I said to her that I didn’t know that you played a musical instrument. Duh!
Then there was the time that Debbie had written “pack” on her calendar and I asked her if she was going somewhere, when that referred to the day that she would pack the pickles she was making, which take ten days to make before they can be packed in jars. Double duh!!
Also, so the record is clear, it was actually Debbie (aka Wookie’s mom) who started the new Forum Topic, although it appeared as me since the Insider subscription is in my name.
7:20 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Am I the first to cross the dark, dark, dark side?
7:23 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Almost. Sigh. At any rate, I was surprised that Nattie wasn’t present for the Ceremonial Start today. Disappointed, also.
7:28 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Wookie’s Mom, Thank you for starting a new topic on the forums…smart move. It will be seen by many more people that way. I commented. In the past, I knew the people in charge of the forums read every post. I assume they still do.
7:40 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Thank Dog it was Bluecat. We were worried that our Buddy stole the credit card and purchased his very own Insider subscription.
7:41 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Going to a Birthday Celebration now. Talk to youse tomorrow!
7:45 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Alice, Siber and Wookie’s Mom: Calmer heads have
prevailed…thank you…I have now (tactfully) expressed my feelings on the forum.
7:57 pm on March 2nd, 2013
T&G, pot, pan, lid, fork, knife and spoon . . snicker
Wookik’s Paw, I’m with you. Let’s get some cellos and pack them.
Wolfe, I believe I saw a picture of Natasha on Facebookie. She was wearing the same hat and coat from last year. She might be spotted at the real star tomorrow. Have to keep an eye out.
Mattie is about to blur over to AK to prepare for the small dog team. She is downloading the course and needs more info from Coach W-L about trail conditions..
7:57 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Tact!….What the hell is that?…heh!…When I am mad, I am mad and tact usually does not prevail…sniff!
7:58 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Voice!…I also find it hard to find my Voice of Reason when I am ticked off…grunt!
8:07 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I know, I know, I would rather blast off at them, but we are now known as representing both Snowhook and Chet the Dog so we should be nice. Mom keeps jabbing me in the ribs to remind me.
8:11 pm on March 2nd, 2013
SiberH!…I’ve always found that the squeaky pug gets the left-overs..sniff!…For your sake and for Snowhook I will think carefully about my response before I post it under Debbie’s topic…grunt!
8:14 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Hmmm….I’m not convinced that Natasha would wear the same ensemble two years in a row. She is far too vain for that. I just hope that she remembered to buy some sensible shoes….
8:16 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I am being moderated because I said the s*oe word. GAH!
8:22 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Mandolins (both kinds) are older than the hills! 😀 I have cut my finger on many a mandolin (the slicing kind) and last year I bought a mandolin (the stringed kind) at an estate sale because the woodwork on it was so beautiful. ACattyLibrarian, who can actually play a chord or two now possesses it. Is that too many s’es?
8:32 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Rose and the Prof: That was your Checkpoint! It was great fun to watch. Where were you standing at the Start? I hope you are getting as many pictures as you can before the A Team takes off tomorrow. It is super exciting that you both got to mush some dogs!
8:32 pm on March 2nd, 2013
We are back! We have never heard of a mandolin, other than the kind in Rod Stewart’s song.
8:36 pm on March 2nd, 2013
I used a mandolin for the first time last fall. Dad has one and he explained precisely and very carefully how I was to use it.
Rio you are being very good. snicker
8:43 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Staff!…grump!…My paws are itching.
8:47 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Not much mandolin playing around here (some slicing) but boy, do we have fun with the autoharp. Hope the starting common taters improve tomorrow.
8:49 pm on March 2nd, 2013
217 posts already and it is not late. What is our record, by the way?
Barb actually walked out to the mail box today, to get her Netflix delivery. We are watching the HBO series about John Adams. Has anyone seen it? It is very well done, and Abigail, his wife, was a woman way ahead of her times!
We are getting tired. Barb doesn’t sleep well, so she has a hard time making it past 9:00. Go Snowhook!
8:50 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Sharon!…heh!snort!heh!…good one. What time tomorrow will the real race begin??? …snort!…I have no idea at this point.
8:54 pm on March 2nd, 2013
We think it is 2:00 AST or 6:00 EST
8:54 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Heh Sharon. Mr.Potato Head and his friends. Snicker. Alice did a very polite post on Debbie’s forum….hint.
8:58 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Polite!…All these so very polite posts are making me sick to my stomach…grump!
8:58 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Rio – how did you know it was moi? I thought I was incognito on the forum thingy.
Happy Birthday to Howlers’ dad!
Wose and the Prof are my heroes, along with Snowhook, of course.
Barb – I really liked the John Adams series and even got the set for Christmas.
Off to check out what you guys have been up to “over there”.
Later, ‘gators.
8:59 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Common taters . . snicker
Staff, I bet you could give us 20 page dissertation on how to use the Mandolin.
Rio, I am sure you can find your tack if you look hard enough. Just find it before you sit down.
I am going to try a cheese lure to get Patsy off the bed. Then, if I scramble fast enough, I will get under the covers and pull them to my side!
I’ll be checking (much later) to see if Rose or Bella have had time to write. When Patsy needs a pill, she wakes me.

“Official Ididarod Calendar 2013” lists start time as 2pm AST.
9:00 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Creator – it has been a glorious day, a day of celebration. We thank you for each and every emotion that has been in our hearts today, for it is emotions that create the story of our lives.
It has been a day of HOPE. Hope for the safety of our beloved Snowhook team as they undertake the challenge of Iditarod, hope for their success and smooth run. We also keep hope for those of our family who are dealing with illness or sadness or other challenges. Let them feel the support of our combined hope to lift their hearts. In the days that Linda’s Jim is not feeling well, fill his heart with the hope that we all have for his health. When Wolfie’s boys turn to dark answers in their lives, open their hearts to hope instead. When the nights are long, and weariness weighs on his shoulders, instill in AJ all the hope that the Plunderers have for him.
It has been a day of COURAGE. Within the hearts of each dog on the Snowhook team, there beats the courage to run through snow and blinding cold. They echo the courage of AJ as he undertakes this wonderful journey through your beautiful wilderness. There is also the courage of those in our family to face the obstacles in their personal paths, to overcome those and be a part of this celebration. When there are hard times on the trail, we ask you to grant extra courage to AJ and the team and to Rebecca waiting at home.
It has been a day of PRIDE. As each of us watches our team, we celebrate the pride that has brought AJ, Rebecca and the dogs to the starting line. We honor AJ and Rebecca for the sacrifices they make, for the hard work, and the love they so obviously share with each other, and their team. We can feel proud to be a part of their lives, and to have participated in their journey. In times of self-doubt, let AJ feel the pride that we all have in him. Pride based not on winning, but pride in the good and gentle man that he is; n honorable man who always cares for his dogs first.
This has been a day of LOVE. Through the wonders of the modern times, we have been able to be a part of each other’s lives, and have developed this community of family and love. It is the love of the animals in our lives that draws us together. It is the love of humor, and intelligence and literature that keeps us together. It is a love of each one of this family of Plunderers that binds us together. We ask that our love lift the hearts and the running feet of the Snowhook team until they are safely across the finish line.
Creator, this has also been a day of ANXIETY. It is hard to give over what we think of as “control” of our lives. Help us to understand that all is as it should be, and that this world is in your hands. Keep from us the fears of “what if” and help us to look at what is actually before our eyes. We ask you to give us peace in our hearts, to know that we can and will deal with things that must be. And give us the peace to also accept and celebrate the many wonderful moments to come during this race.
Most of all, today we thank you for this day of JOY! Joy that was evident in the words of AJ as he spoke of traveling across the frozen earth. Joy that was on the face of Rebecca, seeing AJ’s dream of Iditarod coming true again. Joy in the happy leaping and barking of the dogs, ready and anxious to run. Joy in being together with all of our family to celebrate the beginning of this year’s adventure. We also celebrate the joy of Ray’s birthday, the happiness of Melanie’s niece, and the recovery of Macy’s dad Rick. In times when joy is hard to find – we ask you to help us remember this day, and all the others that have brought us joy, and fill our hearts with that gladness. We ask that AJ’s trip through the ice and snow be one of joy and wonder and let the dogs cross the finish line with as much joy as they start.
Creator – we thank you for this day of celebration and the wide range of emotions that have been with us. Our emotions create our stories. Let our stories be of hope, courage, pride, love and joy.
9:06 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Amalia and Leonard: Amen and thank you.
9:08 pm on March 2nd, 2013

So be it. Amen. Thank you.
9:11 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Amen.
9:14 pm on March 2nd, 2013
At tomorrow’s Restart, we’ll be thinking of SPUDS McKensie! heh heh heh ! Get it? A tater!
9:22 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Amen!…What a wonderful prayer. It humbles me in my anger and makes me realize the bigger picture. Snowhook still needs our constant prayers and support every day….sniffle!
News!…I just got word from Rebecca that the dawg-truck is not running well at all, they pretty much limped home in it tonight…sniff!…Maybe we should all say some silent prayers about that right now…wheeze!
Rebecca!…She is sleep deprived having less than 12 hours total since Monday, so let us all pray that she gets some rest tonight or very soon…wuffle!
9:25 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Rebecca will besleeping days after tomorrow, when The Giant is resting. We here hope he is not so sleep-deprived.
9:27 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Amen and Thank You.
9:28 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Beautiful! Amen.
9:33 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Does anyone have a link to a webcam at the Restart Starting Line?
btw, The rents are hooting and hollerin’ and dancing. We don’t know if it is a birthday celebration, or an Iditarod celebration, or a bit of both.
9:47 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Thank you Amalia for your beautiful thoughts reminding us of our blessings and the joy of being together as Plunders supporting the efforts of “our” team. Go Snowhook!!!!
9:49 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Rio, if you hear any more news about the dog truck, let us know. The truck doesn’t have to get them nearly as far tomorrow as it did today, but it does need to get them to the re-start.
9:51 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Howlers!…Here is a card for yer Paw for his birthday!…snort!..Be sure he sees it.

9:54 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Do youse guys know how far that there truck must travel to the start tomorrow?
9:55 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Amen.
Thank you T&G.
9:58 pm on March 2nd, 2013
As I recall, they won’t have to drive. The start is close by.
9:58 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Melanie, did you say Mattie is planning on running on the small dog team? Perhaps we can all just ride her!
10:02 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Macy! LOL!
10:04 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Thanks for the card Rio. The music had a Johnny Cash vibe to it. I had more than a couple liquid cakes tonight.
10:11 pm on March 2nd, 2013
My momma and daddy are acting like crazy people tonight. Momma says it’s called Iditarod Fever.
10:12 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Howlers!…I figured as much!…snort!….Wish I was there with youse guys. It’s been a very good day and a very hard day at the same time…wheeze!
10:12 pm on March 2nd, 2013
The common taters say it’s a vortex.
10:13 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Is Kat’s picture back as my avatar?
10:14 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Vortex!…That’s the only intelligent thing they said during the Celebration today…sniff!
10:18 pm on March 2nd, 2013
But Rio, the stupid vortex is what they talked about the whole time The Giant was in the starting chute.
10:18 pm on March 2nd, 2013
Mom gave her two cents worth and she was so polite her teeth hurt. She did good.
10:20 pm on March 2nd, 2013

Wolfie! Where is your avatar?
Macy called them common taters on the forums. Chuckle 🙂
And wolfie’s mom thanked them for their consideration. 🙂

Really?…sniff!…I guess I replayed the video so much that their prattling stuck in my brain and I was not associating it with Snowhook anymore…grunt!…I actually agree with the idea of the Vortex sucking people into the world of the Iditarod. I am guilty of it happening to me…wheeze!
10:23 pm on March 2nd, 2013
The vortex has sucked most of us in. Some of us most willingly.

Greetings!
The Ceremonial Start was so exciting! All the dogs, mushers, and people…it is like the Mardi Gras of Anchorage. We are having lots of fun. We ha dinner we Mick an Jodi, the people, not the dogs.
T&G: Thank you for that most beautiful prayer. Will be praying for AJ and his team. We have much concern for Rebecca. With all her hard work, we pray that her health remains strong, and that she gets the rest that she needs.
It is true that the dog truck had problems today. luckily, the start tomorrow is very close to the Snowhook Kennel.
Rio and Siber-H: You should both be very proud of him. I am very proud to have sponsored him. He may still be looking for his eyebrows, but he is an affectionate dog, with the makings of a champion.
My iPaw does not get service here, so am disappointed that I can not post more frequently. GRRRR!
Go SNOWHOOK! We love youse guys!

Happy B-day pop-o-the-howlers. If I haven’t gone to bed it is still today. Or yesterday. Or maybe tomorrow….

Anchorage, Alaska – Saturday, March 2, 2013 – Veteran Iditarod musher Ed Stielstra (Bib# 41) of McMillian, Michigan scratched at Campbell Airstrip in Anchorage after the Ceremonial Start. Stielstra made the decision to scratch in late February after an accident while training his dog team, but still wanted to fulfill his Iditarod Ceremonial duties and waited to make his scratch official until after the Anchorage Ceremonial Start.
