Genuine Teacher Re Bowser and Birdie

5.0 out of 5 stars – A 4th and 5th Grade Teacher Review – June 1, 2017.
Berta Hartzell on ARF:
I love dogs, and when I find a great dog book, I always want to share. Now let me preface this by saying I am pretty particular about my dog books. The dogs cannot under any circumstance…die.

I mean it.
Spencer Quinn has the quirky ability of being able to step into a dog’s mind, and this makes these books unique and equally charming to me.
Bower, a rescued pup, becomes the hero and companion of a fiercely brave little girl named Birdie who has a nose for solving crimes and the ability of getting into some serious trouble in the process.

Add to the mix a snarky grandmother, a handful of peculiar treasures as friends, and a slew of colorful town’s people and you have Louisiana Bayou charm and mayhem on each page. The stories burst with personality.I read the first book in the series, Woof, with my 4th and 5th grade Book Club at school, and we loved it. Arf, the second book in the series, was my first summer read and just as much fun. The third book in this Birdie and Bowser series, Bow Wow, was released on May 30th, and I just ordered it for my class library!

Thrilled! In a world of increasingly yucky (a high falootin’ term for bad) and dark children’s novels, Spencer Quinn has given me hope.

Good morning everyone! Mom said something about scanning a cat today. We don’t know. She also looks really funny. She says she got poison ivy from the nephew. Why would she want something poison?
    Make your Monday marvelous.

    Greetings!

Wow, OFA is up early today!

HOH: Poison ivy and a scanning cat…Hope all is well with your mom!

Very nice review! (Whispering) Maybe a slip of the finger on the key board missed the “S” in Bowser’s name.

    Good day to all!

I like the description of “snarky” for Grammy.

    Good morning all.

Good morning! We think that review is excellent. We can’t wait to get to read Bow Wow, if Mom ever sits still long enough to finish the book she is reading. That book is Born a Crime, Trevor Noah’s memoir. Wowzer did that dude ever live a rough life. Mom recommends that book.

And on a sad note: we Howlers are once again in last place for Kuranda’s Dog of the Month. Mama Meash says it is because we didn’t submit one of the many photos of her in her Kuranda hammock. But who could resist the little Donut in that hammock? (Apparently many folks, sigh).

Please vote for our photo, if not for us, then for Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA (Kat’s shelter). It is in Elmira, NY, which is a very depressed area badly in need of help with their lost and abandoned dogs and cats.
    Thank you.

Howlers, Mom has been voting every day.

HOH, hope all is well with your mom and the cat she is scanning.

Staff!…My friend is very jealous of youse and your gardening ways…sniff!…She is itchin’ to get out in her own garden with her own plants. But alas, the estate attorney is clogging up the works by not getting back to those realtor folks so that closing on my little house will happen…grumble!…It was supposed to be today by golly! Not a word from anyone yet regarding when this will happen…burp!snark!

Mom is home from her 6 month cat scan to make sure the “C” is gone and behaving itself…2013 to now, so far, so good. As for the poison oak, from mom’s eyes to her chin, she looks like a ruby grapefruit with the itches : (
Going to read a couple more chapters of Bow Wow today.

    Hi Howlers.

I figured out how to vote without a Facebookie account; I opened an account with the dog/cat bed people. Vote until the end of June, right?

Rio – hang in. May it happen sooner rather than later.

HOH – good news for your mama!

Excellent, articulate review. That teacher’s students are fortunate to have her/him.

    Later, ‘gators.

Bluecat’s Mom, we do that too, but it was tough the first time.
Mom and I are reading on the bed each evening. Not done yet but my review is:
5 (more than 2?) stars. Bow Wow, wow!

Early!…My friend was granted Early Possession today. That means she and we can at least go over to the house with a KEY and look about and figure out what to do first…snort!…First off is not putting any major money into the house until after actual closing. So therefore all that is left is cleaning this and that and tending to the garden. Both of which my friend intends to start doing tomorrow!….yipppeeee!…She said she will take us with her so we can properly set-up our pee-mail accounts…chuffle!sneeze!

I think that is probably the best review I have read on the blog! I will even excuse her for using read as a noun.

And Bee, snarky is a word I use all the time. Good substitute for “bitchy”.

News!….The best news is Mother will be stuck here at her house because of the contractors working on her bathroom…heh!heh!…This means my friend can do whatever she wants cleaning the kitchen cabinets without being told exactly what to do and where to do it…and what to use while doing it…chuffle!…Someone is feeling quite joyful tonight!…twirl!spin!twirl!

  22. Rio - The Evil Pug
    9:04 pm on June 5th, 2017

Plus!…She will have a working bathroom to use while she is working…snorkel!…Life is hard when contractors take over one’s only bathroom. Does honey-pot ring a bell?…grunt!sniff!booo!

this was posted on Facebook just a few minutes ago by Martha…
“Written by daughter Martha… Zoe fell Saturday night and broke her arm near her wrist. It looks like there might be infection, so she is being admitted to the hospital. I am glad that she is getting the attention and care she needs. She is very tired and she hurts, which is no surprise. I will update later Tuesday when she knows more.”

And Amalia’s Dad is in the hospital with recuuring heart attacks. He has been in twice already. This is her post earlier this evening.’
“Thanks to all who have been asking. Sorry to say that the news about my dad isn’t the best. He is currently in the hospital for the 3rd time, with recurring heart attacks.
That said – he is an amazing man. Although we have been told that surgery is not an option, and time is precious, he is more concerned about me and the family, his friends and of course his puppy dog than he is about himself.
How can a heart that big and loving be under attack?”

I know how well the plunder prayers can work so I am sure we will all step up to the plate.

    Plunder On.

Dear Creator, we offer up a prayer for Zoe and Gramps. We offer a prayer of thanks for our Elders, for their generosity of spirit, for the children that they raise who we count as our friends, for the role these Elders play in our family.

Creator, please be with them. Help them to heal. Help them to feel of our love. Help us be a good support to their children. They and their children are precious to us.

Creator, please guide those who treat them. Guide their hands, their judgement, their care.

Creato, we are greatful for these Elder. Please hold them and their children gently.

    Amen.
