Fun In Vegas

“What makes you think I’d know anything about showgirls?” said Albie Rose. “I’m a financier.”

Bernie laughed. Was that the kind of laugh they call laughing some dude in the face? I thought so. Loved when Bernie did that, wished he’d do it more often.

“No one talks to me like that,” said Albie Rose. “Foster? Help my private eye friend here frame an apology.”

“Like write it down and hang it on the wall?” said Foster.

Bernie laughed again. He was in a real good mood. So was I until Foster pulled a gun out of his pocket.

Wow!… How’s Bernie going to get out of this pickle?… snort!… Chet needs to leap into action and knock that Foster character down… grunt!… so Bernie can grab his gun and get some answers!…wheeze!

We better find the chew strips soon, so if needed, we can turn around and head to Vegas to help Bernie and Chet, where things are getting a bit tense. Although, on second thought, I am confident that Chet will have a firm grip on the situation, if not Foster's leg, soon enough. Also, we told the polar bears about the chew strips, and they promised to leave us alone if we brought some back for them. Seems like a good deal for me. Wolfie, it's safe to come out now. Wookie

Molly's Mom again. Here's the story of The Big Rock Candy Mountain:

"Pogo Possum and Albert the Alligator once sought the Big Rock Candy Mountain in a story in Walt Kelly’s comic book in 1952. Buried deep in Albert’s hope chest, Pogo and his friends find the sheet music to ‘The Big Rock Candy Mountain’ and on the back find a map to the marvelous mountain. ‘Man! If anybody ever found a rock candy mountain they could set up a quarry and be millionaires!’ Pogo and Albert set out immediately on the road to fame and fortune but never find the Big Rock Candy Mountain. Their travels lead them to a mountain of garbage which Albert believes has only been disguised as garbage to prevent theft of the rock candy."

    This is a classic!

Why is Albie Rose so easily offended?

Maybe!… Bernie is asking questions that Albie doesn’t want to answer ….snort!… Also, I think Bernie knows how to push those wise guy types buttons…. Heh!

Better be careful, Chet! Sounds like Bernie is pushing Albie's buttons on purpose. Pay close attention because it usually falls to you to rescue him and nab the perp. It's a shame, though because we kind of liked Foster.

Well!… there has to be a connection somewhere… snort!… between Albie and Astrid… grunt!… She is the only women we’ve heard about so far in this story…. wheeze!… Unless Chet missed a lot more detail than we suspect…. Heh!

We have arrived in the land of the midnight sun!! The tower of chew strips and the Big Rock Candy Mountain are within our grasp. We are searching, but having fun at the same time. I have watched enough nature programs on tv to know that the polar bears will run from a gang as big as ours.

Mom: My Echo Falls series should be arriving today. Would you please save them for me until I return home.

more later: We are very busy.

The new email address has gone through and I'm not being moderated anymore!!

The posts from Gracie and Bess are on yesterdays post.

I have heard from them. They are happy, tail wagging dogs! I am so jealous. The land of Northern LIghts! Polar Bears! Santa! If I had know that I would have gone . .

Of course, Zoë might have let all the airs out in the tires, seeing that Dan isn't moving too well and her ankle is now the size of a pear. Better than a grapefruit.

Chet, I sort of like Foster, a little bit of a literate wise guy there. Not gangster wise guy (though I think he's that also, but a smart aleck type. Sort of like my guys.

You could trip him into the pool? Have fun with him. BUT, I think you should definitely bite Albie Rose. He is not a nice guy.

I'm on Behind the Curtain. It was difficult to only read 50 pages and not read until 4 am, but I figured I needed to be awake unless the Pack and the Bigger Pack text me.

A connection between Astrid (assuming she is the showgirl) and Albie: He was married eight times and all of them were showgirls from Vegas (DOT). Is he trying to divert Bernie's attention? And why did he use the word "frame"…frame an apology. Foster is good at wisecracking. Where is he pointing the gun?

    I hate cliffhangers….on blogs….

    Mmmm… I wondered what the DOT was…. snort!… I thought maybe you were making a point!…heh.

Here’s!… my humble opinion about why the word “frame” was used…. grunt!… it was so “he”, the irritating one, could use the clever phrase, “Like write it down and hang it on the wall?”… wheeze!… It is funny… heh!… and it makes Foster a likeable gangster.

Still searching, but we stopped to have lunch with Rev and Maple. (lead dogs in the winning Iditarod team) It was nice of them to invite us. They inivited us to come back for the race next winter.

We had a good visit with a pack of wolves. We are so much like them, it was like being with relatives. The wolves asked us to please tell everyone in the lower 48 to work hard to stop the hunting of wolves in Alaska by airplane. The wolves were, after all, here first.

The chew strip quest continues. However, my staff (mom) just got the photos back from the Quiltathon back in March, which she sent to me on my dad's Blackbery, and I thought you would like to see the final result, me with all the quilts I helped supervise. Tough work, but I pursued it doggedly (how else would I do it?). More on the trip later.

Mom's at home going all fuzzy over the photos. My, but we are a handsome gang, if I do say so myself. What a pleasure it is to travel with this group. Wookie, as always, is a level-headed leader. The girls aren't doing too much whining because they can't go shopping.

Stover: We had moose stew for lunch. Very tasty. I think Wolfie wants to go back and spend more time with Maple. I'm not sure which he likes best, the moose stew or Maple.

We had a snack of arctic hare with the wolves. We may gain weight on this trip.

Still searching–We are going to head up to the Arctic ocean now.

Th Newfs think that what we are seeking might be up that way, and I want them to have the chance to stick their paws in the northern ocean. Mac and Wookie will drive, and I will nap, with my eyes tightly closed. I do not want to see a large body of water as the shore ice will be melting by now.

The northern lights keep us company every night.

    to be continued…

Pretty cool. They've also seen Polar Bears up in Churchill. You guys are really brave to talk to them.

Molly is doing a great job of looking after the youngsters. She is proving to be a real trooper on this trip. We are proud of her.

This is Wolfie's mom. We just got home only to find a note from Wolfie. Be still my heart! I would worry about him but I know that he is in good paws, and he is a noble and level headed lad himself!

We took his boys to Best Friends in Kanab, Utah. Wow, what an amazing place! There are 800 cats and 500 of the nation within the nation, most of which are available adoption. I was impressed. I thought that the dog cages were all outside, but each dog can choose to be either inside or outside. The buildings are shaped like octagons, and the outdoor cages surround them like slices of a pie. The inside buildings are air conditioned in the summer and have radiant heat under the floors in the winter. We met Ellen, who used to be one of Michael Vicks dogs. (Don't get me started on THAT!!) She was the sweetest thing. She will be available for adoption just as soon as she earns her canine good citizen certificate. We weren't able to meet George, who was MVs prize fighter. He is a marshmallow but he has been ordered by the court not to leave Best Friends, which means he can never be adopted. Makes me so mad.

Since I'm not sure when I'll see Wolfie, I thought I would send him a photo of his boys through cyber space.

Sure wish we had some of Rio's green chili (bet it comes from Hatch, New Mexico, the chili capitol of the world, according to my dad, who as previously noted, is from New Mexico himself) to go with the leftover moose stew that Maple and Rev gave us. I know we are close, so everyone let's get ready to go. Hup, two, three, four. Wookie
