Friends of Chet Reminder
“Is it really the end of the month already?” Spence says.
“Time and tide wait for no man,” Admin says. “There’s also a tide which taken at the flow leads onto fortune. The Friends of Chet tide is flowing now. All you out there have to do is upload your friend to the friends gallery. The random number generator – “
“A Rube Goldberg castoff.”
” – does the rest. The winning friend photo is displayed for the entire month in the prominent place over on the right where Sierra is now. And the winning friend’s human companion gets a free signed copy of the latest Chet and Bernie mystery, in this case The Dog Who Knew Too Much.”
“And scrolling through all the friends is just plain fun.”

First?
9:45 am on April 30th, 2012
Rainy days and Mondays never get me down.
Good morning all.
9:51 am on April 30th, 2012
Hmmmphf!…There are way too many so-called “friends” out there. I don’t stand a chance of ever winning the coveted FOM award…grump!
9:52 am on April 30th, 2012
Good morning, all y’all! It may be a Monday, but no rain here! Thank goodness, because I really hate to go out in that stuff!
Mom and Dad had a busy day yesterday. After church they went to a movie, then they went to the nursery and bought my next victim. When will those two learn that they can’t thwart Kirby “Pee” Penworthy? Actually, Dad has me so shook up that I’m having some performance issues. I’m not sure where to go anymore. Anytime I even get close to a shrub or the new gate (the one that took the place of the gate that I “peed” to death!) he yells at me to get away. Sheesh! Doesn’t he understand that a dog’s gotta do what a dog’s gotta do?!
9:53 am on April 30th, 2012
Good morning.
I see Tyb at the right and I saw Blou a couple days ago. I also saw a cute puppy, sleeping with his legs in the air, named Cricket. I wonder if that was down-under Liz’s Cricket.
I like Sierra’s comforting presence on the right but I do believe it is time for a Dawson over there.

Heh!
Alice M. Johnson is a very smart and stubborn kat. She remembers back over a year to when she lived here last. She liked the water that comes from the purifier not the tap. Her food is upstairs in the ‘ladies’ bathroom. The purified water is downstairs in the kitchen. For the last 5 days Alice has been sitting on the counter waiting for us to give her the filtered water.
Occasionally, to emphasize her wishes, she will backpaw the plastic dish that sits under the tap of the filtered water container onto the floor.
Alice M. has bad teeth. It comes of being abandoned in the woods when she was young and not being rescued until she was 6 months old and her baby teeth were falling out and the adult teeth had insufficient nourishment to make them strong. She needs to have Biotene in her water to help her teeth and gums. The biotene is upstairs. The filtered water is downstairs. She has not given up since we got back.
I think I had better figure out a convenient way of getting her the water she likes. She is being most insistent.

Rio: I’m going to have to tell my girl about your friend. She’ll be soooooo envious! Being in the same stadium with Payton Manning — her major crush! When there was talk of him signing with the Tennessee Titans, she made plans to have her boyfriend drive her around so she could stalk Payton. Mom thought it was strange that she’d want her boyfriend with her for the occasion, but my girl said she wanted to be able to concentrate on Payton, not the driving. She was majorly crushed when he signed with Denver instead. 🙁
9:58 am on April 30th, 2012
Yes Alice! Don’t let Staff get away with it.
10:16 am on April 30th, 2012
Alice. I am very particular about water too. I prefer either fresh rain water (caught on the top of various receptacles on the back porch), bottled water or filtered water. Plain tap water not so much. I have my people well trained in that regard. Wookie
10:19 am on April 30th, 2012
The Prof is not a four-legged, and he will only drink bottled water now. And it must be Poland Spring.
10:28 am on April 30th, 2012
Rio! Did your friend bring that baseball home for you???
10:37 am on April 30th, 2012
We aren’t so particular about water 3 seasons of the year, but when there is snow on the ground, we won’t drink water from the bowl – we only eat snow for the water. This winter was tough on us for that reason.
The Wrotten Kats are very particular – they only want water that is cold and fresh. They will sit by a full water bowl and cry their hearts out, and bat the bowl with their paw until someone takes pity (or gets sick of the merrrrr -OOOWWWW!!) and puts fresh water in the bowl.
Our housemate Callie the Pyrenees is the weirdest one. She will not drink water in the house no matter what. But take the same bowl, with the same water outside, and she will drink. But like Wookie, she would much rather have rain water from any surface.
10:45 am on April 30th, 2012
Rose!…She let us sniff the ball…grunt!…But I have not seen it since…grump!…It belongs in my bed with all the other baseball toys….snort!…She says she bought it with her Power Ticket – if you know what that means!…heh!heh!
10:53 am on April 30th, 2012
The best water is from my porcelain bowl in the downstairs bathroom. Barb keeps fresh water for me in the laundry room, but it is not nearly as good.
Good morning everyone.
Melanie, Did the engaged couple find a new photographer?
11:04 am on April 30th, 2012
Mom’s off to work, so TTFN!
11:04 am on April 30th, 2012
Oh, and by the way, I’m not picky about my water at all — as long as it’s not falling from the sky. The kats and I share a water dish in the laundry room!
11:25 am on April 30th, 2012
Rio! Your friend should have gotten a ball for you, too! Did she bring home a totebag full of books?
11:39 am on April 30th, 2012
Books!…Since she bought books the day before and her friend didn’t really want to go shopping for books, so they did not walk all the way to the Tattered Cover…sniff!…She said they had more fun walking around the stadium deciding what to eat…heh!heh!…Since they got there early they each got a free MLB Tote bag…snort!
11:46 am on April 30th, 2012
Well, I’m off to Sam’s now. Today I’m on a clear liquid diet as prep for one of those procedures. I hate this day! My body doesn’t take it well. Tomorrow will be a snap.
Sammie will take good care of me. She is the best cuddler in bed because she’s so small and fluffy and she curls up just below my pillow, by my neck.
11:52 am on April 30th, 2012
Mollypop’s Mom: Please let us know how you are tomorrow.
12:14 pm on April 30th, 2012
Hello all,
Molly’s Mom: our mom hates that prep day too. Good luck.
Maggie, we went to bed early last night so we only saw your question about the horse and buggy this morning. Those around us are Mennonite.
We aren’t fussy about water here. We each have a water bowl in our elevated eating table. The cats drink from them while we eat. Kat the Dog prefers the porcelain bowl in the bathroom. The rest of us prefer muddy water outdoors. In the summer, there is a bowl hooked up to the water faucet that automatically refills. It is connected to a water filter. We hate it. We like to drink the water that gets recycled thru the little electric fountain, especially when it gets that cool green color.
12:22 pm on April 30th, 2012
MollyPop’s Mom: I hope you are not having the procedure that I think you’re having….Yuck! The prep is horrible, the procedure itself isn’t too bad. Good luck, and let us know how you are feeling. Having Sammie to snuggle with sounds very nice….
12:25 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rio: Can we see your friend’s tote bag?
12:59 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rose!…Maybe.
1:04 pm on April 30th, 2012
Tote!…She threw it in the dirty clothes…sniff!…It might not be a tote bag after it is washed. It might be a coin purse…heh!
1:09 pm on April 30th, 2012
Kirby, That is a funny Payton Manning story about your girl crushing on him. Mom says that next time he shows up at a Rockies’ game she will pay more attention to what he looks like.
I’m not picky about water.
1:29 pm on April 30th, 2012
SiberH!…He has a really big head…snort!
1:34 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rio – so do you and we all thunk you are adorable!
1:35 pm on April 30th, 2012
And sometimes we THINK it too
sigh…
1:53 pm on April 30th, 2012
Yes, OTAS and FOTAS (soon to be GLAD) have a new photographer. MagPie’s 2 legged nephew is a very good photographer but he does not do weddings.
Water: Rose (the four legged not the two legged) likes the porcelain bowl downstairs. There are 6 huge containers of water on the dog room floor that have to be cleaned and filled a great deal (think drool and slobber). Outside is the same thing the Oleyhowlers have (I hope Sasha is feeling better). It isn’t hooked up yet, because we’re still having freezing nights.
Eleanor has a bowl of water near her bed in the living room. She’s lucky if she gets to drink out of that because EVERYONE likes to drink out of that bowl.
Patsy? She has fresh cold water with two tablespoons of plain yogurt (with a dab of whip cream on top) three to four times a day. We have to make sure she doesn’t get dehydrated.
Prep Day, Carpola! Good luck MollyPop’s Mom. Now I need to go read the rest of last night’s blog. I am behind my time today.

Anyone else curious about the Rube Goldberg Machine?

2:27 pm on April 30th, 2012
Size!…My head is small compared to my neck…heh!…Beau has a small head too…sniff!…He has packed on the pounds since hes been living with us and now his neck is bigger than his head…snort!…Boy was he mad at my friend yesterday. After she left he waited and waited for her to come home. He kept getting up in her mothers lap – which is a No-No!…sniff!…Then when she finally came home last night he totally ignored her…heh!…He wouldn’t say “WoooWoooWooo!” to her or spin around in circles or anything…chorkel!
2:27 pm on April 30th, 2012
Thank you, Bear, for that post.
I like water, as long as it has a yummy flavor to it, and it has to be very, very cold!
Rio: Peyton does have a big head. I crush on Eli. He will be on SNL soon.
2:29 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rio: How long has Beau been with youse guys?
2:36 pm on April 30th, 2012
BearSpiritDog, Long long ago when I was a math teacher my school made us give homework over the holidays. So being the extremely nice teacher that i was, had my students design Rube Goldberg machines. They had to use at least 4 different methods to complete a task. The task was of their choosing.
It was fun! They had to do a poster and some of the idea were fantastic. They spent more time on that project than any other homework they had over the holiday.
2:43 pm on April 30th, 2012
Grump!…Beau will be with us 6 months on May 12th…grumble!…Who knew when they dropped him and all his stuff off he wouldn’t ever leave?…gruffle!
2:48 pm on April 30th, 2012
iPaw problems 2Day!!!
2:53 pm on April 30th, 2012
Well I carried some filtered water upstairs. Alice M. followed me every step of the way. I cleaned and dried her water bowl and filled it with the filtered water. She drank for about 2 minutes nonstop. I haven’t seen her sitting on the counter near the filtered water since. She is napping.
3:29 pm on April 30th, 2012
Boutique!…Yesterday Puss N’ Boots asked whether the Spring Boutique is an Auction…grunt!…No, at this time there will not be any special auction items available…wheeze!…The Boutique will be a newly remodeled store available through the Mushers Merchantile page (I believe). I think Rebecca is working on this as we speak (not!)..sniff!…So get photographs of your Items to Melanie as soon as you possibly can so she can size them and correct them if necessary…heh!…Also, write up Descriptions for your items along with an askig price…grunt!..Remember, this is to make money for Snowhook, so price everything sky-high! [jk]…chuffle!
3:31 pm on April 30th, 2012
Molly’s Mom is here! She has already made me my kong. She fills it with treats and tops it off with peanut butter. Next I’m waiting for her to let me lick her Chapstick. She did that last time so now I know that means it will have to happen every time she puts it on. Those are the rules I made.
3:38 pm on April 30th, 2012
Yes, Sam. Make them play by your rules. Heh. Sometimes it takes sitting by the water for 5 days, but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.
!
4:05 pm on April 30th, 2012
Alice is my idol. I need to be more like her. Trouble is, if I stop drinking from the icky dogs’ water bowls that I have to stand on tippy paws to reach, nobody here would even notice.
4:11 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rio: Six months!!! Time does fly!!!
4:13 pm on April 30th, 2012
Staff, I learned a lot from Alice way back when we went on that mission.
4:25 pm on April 30th, 2012
Alice rules! Heh.
4:26 pm on April 30th, 2012
You have trained your Staff well.
5:09 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rio, I bet your friend knew when Beau arrived with all his stuff, that he would be there for a long time. I think she knew before you did.
Does anyone have any idea how many friends of Chet there are currently?
6:15 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rio! Six months! So, are you going to keep Beau? 🙂
6:16 pm on April 30th, 2012
Staff is truly staff.
Princess Sam, hmmm . . my Pack has the same rule. If you have done something for me once and I liked it, it must be an every day occurrence.
6:18 pm on April 30th, 2012
B: I am sitting on my couch, watching the news, eating Swedish Fish and thinking about you…..
6:21 pm on April 30th, 2012
I did get to lick the Chapstick!
6:30 pm on April 30th, 2012
Yawn…stretch…wince…I may or may not have hurt my back over the weekend, and as a result, I took a prescription pain pill on Saturday night which I rarely take. With the exception of waking up to do morning dog chores—wearing my PJs and my mud boots—I didn’t wake up until early Sunday afternoon.
I’m not a fan of baseball, but I wish I could see a game through Rio and SiberH’s eyes. I also wish I could see Target through C.Hobbit’s eyes. The small downstairs bathroom through Mac’s eyes must be something, too. He saw a buffet-waterpark combo—that’s the type of thing you only see in Vegas—and all I would see is the small downstairs bathroom.
Yes! The upcoming online pugstravaganza will be like the MMCS we had for the holidays. I need to keep thinking of items to stock the shelves from Snowhook…I think Snowhook might have items better suited for an auction. Think…think…think…
6:32 pm on April 30th, 2012
Melanie, Tomorrow is May 1st. Are going to do you lettuce in the gutter planter? We have cilantro sprouting all over the place from last year’s plants. Trying to replant some and saving some for nieghbors, and Lily, of course.
6:34 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rose: LOL! I hope the Swedish Fish are good. I haven’t looked for any yet. (I could order it on Amazon but they seem expensive.)
6:58 pm on April 30th, 2012
B: I could send you some…. 🙂
7:06 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rose: That is nice of you! If I can’t find any when I look in the store, I’ll let you know.
7:34 pm on April 30th, 2012
Stopping by to say we won’t be here this evening. My folks are leaving but they will turn the tv on the Rockies game for me. My mom is going to turn off the computer. That has something to do with my online shopping habits.
See you guys tomorrow!
Sam, Careful that your insides don’t turn to wax.

YSAS’s candy of choice is Gummy Bears.
Staff? Did you see my comment about you? Zoe has been thinking that you were actually Staff for the blog!
I then explained that Kats have Staff. She laughed.

Had a note from The Royals’ Mum. You know they’ve been having trouble with bears?
Well, one came out in the middle of the day and got on their porch!
8:27 pm on April 30th, 2012
OMK! That bear is…well frankly, he is adorable! I always thought I’d be scared of a bear, but not this one.
I am getting ready to watch Birdsong on Masterpiece Classics. Have any of youse watched that?

Melanie, I can’t view your video on the Howlers’ iPaw. I’ll have to wait until Mommy can show me on her big computer.

Where the heck is everyone?
I’m taking my self and going to bed.
(Barb&MagPie, I don’t know about the lettuce. Depending on the weather and if the crick don’t rise, I’m going across the river and plant pussy willows.)
TTFN

OMD, I’m getting moderated . . . Let’s try this again.
Where the heck is everyone?

Melanie!…I’m here! Finally!….Wooooo!….We have come inside to watch the baseball game through my eyes…heh!heh!
Beau!…He thinks he is here to stay, but one lift of the leg could be his ticket to ride….sniff!
9:17 pm on April 30th, 2012
Bear!…Wow!…snort!…Golinkas bear is amazing. How does she do that?…wheeze!
SiberH!…Will not be able to comment on the game tonight, so that means I will have to do twice as much or even 10 times more…heh!heh!chorkel!
9:24 pm on April 30th, 2012
Osprey!…Sammie better thank her lucky stars that those Osprey do not go after small white wonderfluffed guys….snort!
9:29 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rebecca!…There you are!…snort!…You’ve been missing all weekend, just like my friend…sniff!…Always off somewhere with her friends having fun…grunt!…How’s yer back doing tonight? The score is tied at 1 ta 1 right now. The Dodgers are in town..wheeze!
9:37 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rio is right, the bear is amazing. Remember, she started with just a plain white bear, and now look at him!
Melanie, You don’t need warm weather for lettuce. It has been down into the 20s here numerous times, and the lettuce is fine. It actually grows better when it is cool.
You could call them kitty willows or meow willows, that might work.
Rio, did your friend find any D. Rosenfelt books at the sale? We are half way thru New Tricks, and lovin it. Only 3 left.
Baye read all the Ingrid books and loved them, then loaned them to a friend who loves them too. They asked why can’t he write more Ingrid!
9:48 pm on April 30th, 2012
Maggie, our potato plants look like they have been ruined by our cold nights. We had a heavy frost last night, but we thought potatoes wold be safe. The leaves look shriveled now.
9:50 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rosenfelt!…My friend said she found only one of his books!…snort!
Johnny!…Dirt In His Pants Herrera Scores!….Woooo!…His dad flew in last night from some other country to see his son play MLB the first time ever!…snort!…And Johnny just scored a run for him!…snorkel!
Rosenfelt!…She found one called, Play Dead,/i> this weekend I believe…sniff!…Earlier we finished Open and Shut outside on the patio…wheeze!…That was a really fun story…chuffle!

Royals: This Bear thinks
that bear is Spectacular!
Great videos all.
Back in late am.
G’night – Bear
10:12 pm on April 30th, 2012
Good evening to anyone still awake – boy, it is quiet here tonight. We have been busy all day – running between the bear, and the Mud Room. We have to send an “in progress” picture to the festival by Wednesday, and it has been either raining or windy or both for the last week. Today was lovely, so it was paint day. The problem is that we also have to get as many pots done as possible in the next few days, and we had two pots that were at the cure stage where they had to be worked on TODAY! So, it was put a coat of paint on the bear, go work on a pot, go put a coat of paint on the bear, go work on a pot – back and forth all day. It was the best fun in the world, but it was busy!
10:14 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rio, We keep a list in the desk drawer, so just checked it. Play Dead is # 6 in the series. It isn’t absolutely necessary to read them in order, but the relationship with Laurie continues from one book to the next, so it makes a little more sense if read in sequence.
Oley, our potatoes, for the most part, were fine thru the really cold weather. About 3 of the 10 plants turned dark and then shriveled up and died. New plants should grown in their place. Not sure why it effected some on them. Nothing else we planted was effected by the cold.
About time to call it a night. See you tomorrow.
10:16 pm on April 30th, 2012
Corgis!…Boy, don’t they have the life?…grunt!…Their gal is home with them all day long doing what she loves to do…sniff!…They get to run back and forth with her sniffing paint and pot(s)…heh!…They got it made!
10:24 pm on April 30th, 2012
Staff left me a Rosenfelt on my bedside table. I will start it tonight if Ma doesn’t keep me up too late. Oh…she just took her earphones off and pushed the button on her talking watch, 9:14, then pushed it again to make sure what she heard, 9:15…no, not quite late enough to go to bed yet. ((sigh)) She starts a new audio book.
Staff: I love the video of the Osprey. That fish never knew what happened! It looked like the Osprey was hanging on to that huge fish with one claw…then she got ahold of the fish with 2 claws and looked like she was surfing on the fish. Heh. It was cool when she shook all the water off like dogs do.
Melanie: You found Sam’s theme song!
The Royal’s mom has made a very friendly looking bear. I love those overalls!
Aargh! Dad has the “narrator” turned on his computer so I can hear everything he is doing.
My eyes are very heavy…
10:32 pm on April 30th, 2012
Dawson!…Do you stay up till both Maw and Paw are in bed??…snort!…I can’t believe they stay up so late…sniff!…Her mother is in bed by 9:00pm sharp. Beau gets confused and wants to sleep on her bed with her…grunt!…This causes a lot of trouble sometimes…chorkel!
10:35 pm on April 30th, 2012
Helton!….heh!snort!heh!…They are calling Todd Helton The ToddFather….heh!…SiberH would have gotten a chorkel out of that if he was here tonight…sniff!
11:02 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rio: I only stay up until Ma is safely in bed because she is very unsteady on her feet. Pa is on his own. Ma is now tucked in and I’m hoping this Kemp fellow doesn’t hit a grand slam!

Dawson!…Are you watching the Rockies game with me?…snort!snort!….Our pitcher just struck out another guy!…heh!
11:22 pm on April 30th, 2012
Rio: I just checked into the Rockies game to keep my eyes from closing and saw the bases were loaded with Dodgers and Kemp who had a .427 or so average was at bat. Yikes! Now I am up in my bed…at last.
