“Last day to be eligible for this month’s FOM,” says Spence. “Winner, selected by the random number generator – “
“If you can get it working,” Admin says.
” – ends up in the special display box for the month, and winner’s human companion gets a signed copy of the most recent Chet and Bernie mystery, meaning The Dog Who Knew Too Much. All you have to do is upload the photo at the Friends box.”
“Or is it download?” says Admin.

Good morning Chet, Spence and Admin. Thank you for the link. I am on my iPad and have to get on my laptop to listen to it.
Good morning all.
9:17 am on September 30th, 2011
I think I will be the new Friend of the Month. I’ll be working on my acceptance speech today.
9:23 am on September 30th, 2011
Good morning B.Stover and everyone else.
I meant to comment on the awful cute picture of Ismael and the really cool snow camouflaged Patsy on the Friends of Chet. Sure enjoy looking at Chet’s friends. There’s lots of new friends today. I feel a little bit sorry for Fenway Sally. Go Tigers!
9:25 am on September 30th, 2011
If it’s not you, Sam, I hope it’s me. I’ll ad lib.
9:27 am on September 30th, 2011
Sam: I hope you are the next FOM.
Melanie: I knew you were the wise person who said that!
The tiger picture with the disguised piglets is wonderful. Thanks Macy. It would be nice to learn the end of the story.
9:31 am on September 30th, 2011
Hi Dawson! When do the Tigers start the…playoffs…is it? I would root for them for the World Series, Heh!
9:33 am on September 30th, 2011
Good morning, y’all! Bright blue skies here, and Mom has the day off. Course, she gets to work tomorrow when Dad and my girl will be home. I guess there are always trade-offs! Anyway, Mom says she’s going to do some cleaning around here. I’m going to supervise. I just hope I don’t have to bite her to get her going!!!
9:33 am on September 30th, 2011
We’re not ready yet. We love the fame.

9:39 am on September 30th, 2011
Good morning Samantha and Brewski!
9:41 am on September 30th, 2011
Good morning, Samantha! I’ve just gotta say, Brewski looks like he’s had a few brewskis in that photo!
9:47 am on September 30th, 2011
Hangover! …Thank dawg this is the last damned day and night I have to look at Brewkies hung-over face….grunt!…Last night I was trying to talk to Brother Redbone and my Wireless connection went out….grump!….My friend tried and tried to re-connect but in the end she said I was outta luck…dammit!
Thieves!… Is that photo Rebeccer put up last night of Pancho and Leftie?….snort!snort!…Which one is which?…heh!… I can’t wait to meet those Outlaws!… chorkel!
10:11 am on September 30th, 2011
Brother Rio – don’t you worry your little flat head about not being able to chat over the cyber fence with me. I was just in and out, but couldn’t let those blanged kats be a talkin like that. Its bad enough to have to put up with their pointy little faces, and weird eyes that they squish all up at ya, but to have to listen to their sass too? No sir! Personally, I don’t put a whole lotta faith in anyone that horks up fur balls.
Headin out to the front porch for a nice little nap under the swing. Still plenty warm down here – the climbing roses around the porch are still smelling sweet enough to make the bees drunk. Them bees buzz, the breeze blows, the flowers smell purty, and I jist drift right off to sleep.
Now this is the life for an ole hound dog.
10:14 am on September 30th, 2011
Samantha, i believe that you named Brewski correctly. LOL
Morning All! After sold rain and thunderstorms yesterday we are supposed to have sun. I’m still waiting . . . As is Patsy because instead of eating my yogurt and and handing her the bowl. I’m typing. Hold on. . . .
Whew, that solved . . .
YSAS is helping Zoë with starting to winterize the pool. So we do need some sun.

10:16 am on September 30th, 2011
Wow, Redbone, that almost makes me wish I were a hound dog! A nap sounds real good right along now, but like I said, I have to supervise Mom. So far she’s sorted laundry and got a load started in the washing machine, and made herself some breakfast and…as far as I can see, that’s about it! She’s just sitting around eating her breakfast. It’s already after 10 — I guess that makes it brunch! She spent the first few hours this morning lollygagging around in bed reading — first the paper (Dad brought it in to her while he was getting ready for work — at least he has some ambition!) then a book.
10:17 am on September 30th, 2011
B.Stover: The first game is tonight at 8:37 pm EST.
10:24 am on September 30th, 2011
Tigers!….YES!….snort!… Now Stover is going to help us cheer on the Tigers….wooooo!….In my experience it always doubles and sometimes triples the chance of a team to win when a person who knows next to nothing about the game or the team is rooting for them….chorkel!… My friend should be home in time for the first pitch tonight….sniff!…I just hope this Wireless connection holds…grunt!
10:48 am on September 30th, 2011
Top of the (late) morning to all!
There are certainly a bunch of great looking new dogs friending Chet this morning!
I think I’ve caught the plundering disease….Red nose, coughing, sneezing, and runny nose. SNEEZE!
I will be watching the Yankee game tonight with my box of Kleenex by my side. Go Yankees! CC’s pitching tonight.
Dawson and Rio: Even though you are rooting for the wrong team, I’ll be thinking of youse guys as I watch. SNEEZE!
11:06 am on September 30th, 2011
Dawson: I’m gonna have to go with the Tigers, too. Mostly cuz Mom’s grandpa used to sell peanuts there back in the day, but also cuz I’m not a big Yankee fan!
11:06 am on September 30th, 2011
Oh, Kirby, you have slayed me!!!
11:07 am on September 30th, 2011
Mollypop, I need a friend here among all these haters….
11:08 am on September 30th, 2011
Hi Masquers! Haven’t heard from you lately. Thinking about you.
11:09 am on September 30th, 2011
Rose: Sorry! I just can’t root for the Yankees. When Mom lived in Iowa, the cartoonist for the Des Moines Register used to do a drawing every year about whether or not the World Series was official — being official meant the Yankees were playing. Mom didn’t like those cartoons. And there was a restaurant Mom’s family used to go to owned by Bill Zuber, who used to play for the Yankees. And even though Mom liked Bill Zuber (he used to talk to everybody in his restaurant and he was real nice) she never liked the Yankees!!!
11:29 am on September 30th, 2011
Here, Rose, this one’s for you! (And Mollypop!) Just don’t expect me to do it again!!!
(Aside from the Watergate scandal, it’s still pretty up-to-date!)

11:35 am on September 30th, 2011
Gasp!….I’m all choked up…snort!… Worse than usual. I just listened to the NPR interview with Spencer. Who would have ever thought The Quilt which a bunch of us worked on for Spencer would end up being The Second Best Thing?….snorkel!….Makes me want to sob!sob!sob! with joy!….Wooooo!…I’m twirling, I’m twirling! I’m skipping, I’m skipping now I’m twirling! Now I’m skipping!…wheeze! gasp!
11:36 am on September 30th, 2011
Hi Rose! I will be your friend. Sorry you aren’t feeling tip top.
11:44 am on September 30th, 2011
Watch out Rio or you’ll get dizzy and fall over! I haven’t listened to the interview yet.
I can’t find the Tiger game on tv tonight but that doesn’t make sense does it? What channel would it be on? (I watched the World Series last year because Rio and SH wanted me to….remember?)
11:47 am on September 30th, 2011
Thanks for the link Spence.
Rebecca, I have the same question as Rio. Is that Pancho and Lefty and which is which? They are very cute theives.
Rose, I do not hate the Yankees. If I cheer against the Yankees today it will be only so “my” teams won’t have to face them. I like CC and Jeter. A-Rod, not so much.
Rose, Take care of yourself and feel better.
11:49 am on September 30th, 2011
Stover, The Detroit game is on TBS
11:56 am on September 30th, 2011
SiberH!… As much as I hate to admit it, you expressed the exact reason why I always root against the Yankees….snort!…I don’t want my team to have to go up against them…sniff!…Especially when CC is pitching….yeep!… The Tigers better be ready for anything tonight!…heh!
Stover!….The fact that you watched some of the World Series with us last year was one of me and SiberH’s crowning glories!…snort!….I will never ever forget that! Although, I have forgotten who played in last year’s World Series because the Rockies were not there…sniff!
Twirling!…I’m still twirling!…And Spinning! I’m spinning and skipping!…wheeze!heh!WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!…I might need to lie down now….cough!
12:22 pm on September 30th, 2011
That is a great interview! And Spence is already working on a new C&B mystery!
Thank you SH. I found the Tiger game on TBS. I’ll watch it. (The Tigers aren’t afraid of the Yankees.)
12:24 pm on September 30th, 2011
Rio: You are making me dizzy. Slow down and breathe…
Kirby T.Penworthy: I bet your mom’s grampa sold peanuts to my grampa at a Tiger’s game.
Rose: I like the Yankees but tradition dictates: Tigers first, Yankees maybe (only if the Tigers are out). Rest today so you’re tip-top for the game tonight.
12:26 pm on September 30th, 2011
Hey!
Maybe B.Stover’s grampa was there too! At the Tiger’s game.
12:41 pm on September 30th, 2011
Dawson!…This is going to be a really fun game knowing everyone is rooting for your team, except those two or three Yankees fans…heh!…I sure hope my wireless connection stays connected…sniff!…What’s your phone number in case I have to call and “WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” in your ear…chorkel!
12:45 pm on September 30th, 2011
I can get you that number Rio….
12:47 pm on September 30th, 2011
Fierce!….The Tigers Aren’t Afraid Of The Yankees!.. naw-naw! Naw-naw-naw!
12:48 pm on September 30th, 2011
I just listened to the interview. It is the BEST one ever!
Mom saw the Detroit Tigers play when she was in second grade. Boeing had sent her dad to Detroit for the summer. The only thing she remembers about the game is that her folks bought her a stuffed Tiger.
12:51 pm on September 30th, 2011
You guys are cracking me up.
Dawson: My paternal grandfather was a professional photographer and took pictures of the Tigers’ games.
12:53 pm on September 30th, 2011
Photographer!….Wow! Holy Cow!….Stover! Can you get your mitts on some of those old photographs?…snort!….What a Treasure that would be!…honk!
1:09 pm on September 30th, 2011
Rio: I just looked for photos. There are photos of cruises to Isle Royal and of air shows but can’t find the Tigers’ games. I know they’re around somewhere here. He worked for a firm called Spencer and Wychoff. Maybe I can find something online.
1:16 pm on September 30th, 2011
Kirby: I really liked the cartoon. Thanks!!!
Masquers: Thanks for always being a good friend!
SiberH: I understand. I’m not a fan of A-Rod either, and even less a fan of A.J. Burnett.
SNEEZE!
Thanks for your get well wishes. I feel like doo-doo…
1:18 pm on September 30th, 2011
Rio: With so much twirling and skipping going on, I wonder how you will celebrate if/when you become the FOM!
1:19 pm on September 30th, 2011
It is Spencer and Wyckoff. This is before my grandfather’s time but it’s interesting. World’s Championship Series, Detroit vs Chicago, October 9, 1907:

Blast. I think those photos are at the Florida condo.
1:31 pm on September 30th, 2011
Wow!…What a great old photograph!…snort!…Look how all the guys dressed up to go to the ballgame…heh!…Some are wearing white caps of some sort on their heads…sniff!…I wonder what that is all about…wuffle!
1:46 pm on September 30th, 2011
They certainly dressed more formally then. Most of the male spectators seem to be wearing white shirts and ties. Almost everyone is wearing a hat. I don’t know what those white caps are.
1:50 pm on September 30th, 2011
That is an interesting photograph and it was taken only 4 years after the first World Series.
1:56 pm on September 30th, 2011

The pool is getting there. But the sun has not shown up. Bummer.

I hope Spencer is prepared to meet all of you…heh!….Is any of the Pack going along for good luck?…sniff!…Franklin? Patsy?…heh!
3:41 pm on September 30th, 2011
Rose – It’s nice that Masquers is your friend, especially when you’re sick, but he didn’t say that he was with us rooting for the Yankees!
4:00 pm on September 30th, 2011
Kats!…They can be fickle that way!…heh!heh!
4:03 pm on September 30th, 2011
Melanie: This is exciting! Have a wonderful time. I think my question was, Has Spence started another C&B mystery yet? He mentioned it in the interview so that question is answered. I’ll send you an email also.
4:17 pm on September 30th, 2011
I won’t ask for a separate picture, but I hope one of Peter and all the Newf crowd, with badges, will appear on the blog.
The interview was great and just for the record I am a ‘happy’ quilter and Wookie’s Mom is the ‘Master Quilter’.
4:34 pm on September 30th, 2011
Masters!…I think both Debbie and Staff are Master Quilters…snort!…Without you guys it would have been Mission Impossible!…grunt!
4:45 pm on September 30th, 2011
Staff – No. Happy quilters are like “loving hands at home.” Ha ha. You and Debbie are Master Quilters Extraordinaire.
4:52 pm on September 30th, 2011

5:34 pm on September 30th, 2011
Masquers: Good point! Batteries and back-up batteries just like we send out for Iditarod. Nothing should be left to chance when one has the opportunity to meet Spencer, Peter or Admin together or separately.
5:34 pm on September 30th, 2011
Brewskies!…My friend just emailed me and said she is leaving work right now and heading over to the place to save a table for her friends…snort!…Her friends being others that are not ME!…wuffle! …She better be home in time to watch the Tigers devour the Yankees thats all I can say..gruffle!

****S*N*O*W*I*N*G***** [A shout out to Siber-H]
It must be because I put on my winter tires last night. It always snows in September but I was hoping to make it to October before the snow flies–almost made it.
6:33 pm on September 30th, 2011
WOW C.Harris. SNOW!! I’m glad you put the snow tires on.
(whispering) It is 80 degrees here. No Fun
6:48 pm on September 30th, 2011
C. Harris: Snow! Cooool! I am waiting for our first good snowstorm. Maybe it will snow when the Prof and I go back to the little cottage in December. That would make it quite cozy.
Just listened to Spence’s interview. It was great!
It was nice to hear the shout-outs.
Rio: Will you be able to watch the game, or will it be blcaked-out?
6:50 pm on September 30th, 2011
C.Harris, Snowing! I love snow for about the first three snowstorms. . .

Rose, The game won’t be blacked out for Rio. We’ll get to see all of the post season games. I’m watching the Rangers lose right now.
7:38 pm on September 30th, 2011
I have it on very good authority that it is Masquers the WeatherKat’s mom’s birthday. At least that is what is says on her Facebookie page.
The Ranger game is giving me heartburn.
Mom’s uncle crossed The Great Football Field this afternoon. Mom is sad.
7:47 pm on September 30th, 2011
aw Miz Macy – please give your mom my deepest sympathies. I’m awful glad she got a chance to see him and call him an old goat before he left on his travels. Betcha he’s just a chucklin’ now, remembering that.
Miz Melanie – you travel safe now, and give ole Spence a big ole hound dog “ba-oooooo” from me.
CHarris, Rose and the rest of you celebratin’ the first snow….have you LOST YOUR COTTON PICKIN MINDS???? I’m a startin to shiver jist thinkin on it!
7:50 pm on September 30th, 2011

Hi Melanie: I’m thinking the Newfs love the snow…
SiberH: I’m sorry your team is losing.
First casuality for the Sox: Tony Francona (sp?)

We’re getting lots and lots of lightning. Going to say TTFN!
8:01 pm on September 30th, 2011
MacyMinPin: Give your mom my sympathy and some extra cuddles.
C.Harris: Snow! We are having a windy Fall day with the leaves flying off the trees and sailing through the sky like hundreds of miniature kites, catching the wind currents for wild rides before their inevitable descent. I love Fall.
Melanie: Yippee!
8:04 pm on September 30th, 2011
Oh!
Happy Birthday to WeatherKat’s mom.
8:06 pm on September 30th, 2011

Happy Birthday to Nana!
8:22 pm on September 30th, 2011
Macy, Alice M. Johnson, Abbie and I wish to send condolences to your Mom.
Dawson, We had that windy day yesterday. That tree I took the pretty pictures of is rather empty now. However many in the block are still green and full.
Rose, I hope you are feeling better, but stay away from me till then!
C.harris…SNOW?????
the big news here? The septic at the farm was cleaned out today!
8:31 pm on September 30th, 2011
I have the Tiger game on….though it hasn’t started yet
8:37 pm on September 30th, 2011
Oh boy!
Here we go. I’m hoping the Tigers will impress B.Stover.
Shake hands and…let’s play ball!
8:41 pm on September 30th, 2011
Melanie, I want a picture!
8:43 pm on September 30th, 2011
Staff! Did you see that? A former Twinkie hit a home run against the Yankees! Whooo hoooo. Let’s go Tigers!
8:55 pm on September 30th, 2011
Oops I had better go and watch the game. I have been checking out the Whooping Cranes on Journey South. This is what I do once the baseball season is over….check it out! It can take as long as late January, and then it is almost time for the pitchers to report to training camp!

8:57 pm on September 30th, 2011
Way to go Delmon!
8:58 pm on September 30th, 2011
Dawson: I LOVE your description of fall.
Mr. Redbone Hound: I adore you. (My roots are actually in the south and your way of speaking takes me back to pleasant places in my memories)
9:02 pm on September 30th, 2011
It’s really raining there.
9:02 pm on September 30th, 2011
Wow!
Derek Jeter is one fast handsome dude. He comes around the bases to tie the game after one inning. It’s raining pretty hard.
9:05 pm on September 30th, 2011
Raining!….Ugh!….snort!…She got home and we raced downstairs in time to see the Tigers hit the homer and then those damned Yankees have already tied the game…grunt!…Now its raining. OH NO! Please, please, please not another rain delay…grump!
9:08 pm on September 30th, 2011
Nana: Happy birthday!
Miss Macy: Sorry to hear about the Old Goat’s passing.
CHarris: Snow! I am jealous. The snow is lower on the mountains in our neck of the woods.
Rio: The picture I posted last night is of Doc (left) and Charlie (right). The picture I tried to take of the Theives turned out to be from the inside of Lefty’s mouth. The theif tried to steal my camera—let’s hope Spence has better manners than Lefty when Melanie meets him tomorrow.
Melanie: (making a semi-circle in the dirt with the toe of my boot)—If it’s not too much trouble, a picture would be much appreciated.
9:11 pm on September 30th, 2011
From Macy’s mom
Thank you all for your kind words. Uncle Sam was the last of my dad’s family, with no males from either of them, so he was the last of the line. Sad to think of it.
9:15 pm on September 30th, 2011
Why can football players play in bad weather but baseball players can’t?
9:28 pm on September 30th, 2011
Stover, Baseball players can play in the rain, but the rain messes up the baseball diamond. A player like the pitcher could get injured from it being too slippery. A baseball diamond is a much more precise and detailed playing area than a football field. It needs to be protected with the tarp.
9:32 pm on September 30th, 2011
Macy’s mom: We are very sorry to hear of your loss. I am glad you
had the chance to say goodbye
Mom says thank you all for your birthday wishes! She is getting ready to enjoy a celebratory dinner. So we’ll talk again in the am.
Melanie and Company: Have a good trip!
.
9:32 pm on September 30th, 2011
I see. Thanks SH.
9:39 pm on September 30th, 2011
Injuries!…No one wants to see a large man like CC Sebastian do the splits on the pitchers mound…snort!…Well, maybe a few die-hard Tigers fans would…heh!
9:42 pm on September 30th, 2011
Macy. Tell your mom we are sorry for her loss. It was nice that she got to say good-bye.
Happy birthday to Masquers’s mom. Hope you have a great birthday dinner.
Melanie. Good luck tomorrow. This has the makings of a grand adventure.
Wookie

Goat!… “You Old Goat” was a favorite saying of my friends dad….sniff!…He always called his brothers and brothers-in-law Old Goats as a form of affection and they in turn called him an Old Goat too.…wuffle!…Macy me and my friends sympathies are with you and your family….sniffle!

HMmmph. I went down to the basement where the TV was and it was a rain delay. So I did the dishes(first floor). Now it is still a rain delay.
Somebody tell me when the rain delay is over. The computer is on the 2nd floor and the TV is in the basement and I refuse to go up and down that many times. (More than once)

Thanks for the report, Rio. That gives me the ok to fall asleep.
I don’t know how TBS can possibly squeeze another game in on their tv schedule tomorrow, but we’ll see.

Macy: We’re so sorry to hear about your loss. I’m so glad your mom had a chance to say her farewells first.
11:57 pm on September 30th, 2011
Rio: Could that terrible headache have anything to do with all the brewskis your friend enjoyed with her non-Rio friends?
Melanie: I hope you and yours have a great trip tomorrow! Mom started thinking today about a book that Nora Roberts wrote with her alter ego, J.D. Robb. Maybe you should ask Spence if he and Admin have any plans to collaborate on a book. Of course, as much bickering as those two do, that could be Mission: Impossible!

Hi everyone – so much to say, so little time.
Macy – please know that our sympathies are with your mom. It is sad to know that it was the end of the line – but not really. Your mom is there to keep the family memories alive.
Bee – baseball players can’t play in the rain CUZ THEY’RE SISSIES! jeez – football players are running and diving and catching and kicking – sure they have pads, but they still land HARD when they slip and fall. But they get up and keep playing.
A baseball player breaks a fingernail and he’s out for the season.
Melanie – have a WONDERFUL time!! How great is it that you get to be with YSAS and meet Spencer! We bet that he is just as excited as you!
Nana – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Many, many happy returns (BSD and Masquers, would you do the honors of waggles and head bumps from all of us here?)
And now, we are headed off to bed. Tomorrow is really big push day to get a lot of pieces finished up.
G’night all.

Macy – we love that picture. Its about time someone explained it to the world!
Rose – sure hope you feel better tomorrow
Liz – HI! How are things in your part of the world? Is Miss Cricket doing better these days? And Mama wants to know if you still want the Dog Biscuit recipe corrections sent to your SDD, or if you took them from the blog the other day.
Oh well, Mama says we have to go to bed too….
Good night
