Friend of the Month Reminder
“Last day of the month,” says Spence, “meaning it’s the last day of eligibility for January’s Friend of the Month contest, first of 2013. All you have to do is upload a photo to the Friends of Chet gallery. The random # generator does the rest! If you’re already in the gallery you’re eligible till the crack of doom. Prize is a signed – and paw-printed – copy of A Fistful of Collars and the winning Friend of the Month is displayed for the entire month in the special place over on the right where Odin (plus Santa) is now. Easy, fun, and we’ll throw in a male-pattern-baldness reverser spray that works in seconds.”
Welcome new friends: Sam & Jade, Orion from Snowhook, Tesser (R.I.P.)

Yeah, Orion, you finally made it. And good to be first on the last day of the year.
9:03 am on December 31st, 2012
Hurray! One of our 2013 Plunderer sponsored Snowhook doggies is a new Driend of Chet’s. Hi Orion!
Welcome to Sam and Jade, and thanks to Tesser’s person for adding him/her.
9:04 am on December 31st, 2012
Ummm. That would be Friend. More cawfee please.
9:22 am on December 31st, 2012
Good morning and Happy New Year’s Eve.
Barb is slipping me a happy pill at 10:00 then taking me in for a nail trim. She says if I finally realize that they are not going to hur me I will relax a little. What part of this does she not get? I am a herding dog – I never forget!
9:31 am on December 31st, 2012
The baldness reverser spray has me curious, not that I need it.
Excellent Wookie’s Dad for being first (it is the last day of the year isn’t it) and good work Orion.
Good morning all.
9:40 am on December 31st, 2012
Don’t forget to get your nominations in for doggies to sponsor … Yeah yeah we know. There are still booties to buy and checkpoints that need some funding. But if you just pledge a small amount, we will announce the dog of your choice for all us Plunderers to sponsor. If you want to do it by number as C.Hobbit suggested, that will work too. Our thinking is that there are a ton of Snowhook members in training right now, and whether or not they make the final cut for the Iditarod, they all still need extra nourishment for training and race season, as well as supplies such as harnesses, coats, etc. So pick your favorite Snowhook doggie or pick your favorite number. Lets get these doggies sponsored !

ARGGGGGGGG . . more later
9:44 am on December 31st, 2012
Maggie, we know how you feel. We really hate anyone touching our paws.
9:45 am on December 31st, 2012
Sponsorship!…How much again?…snort!…Is it still 500.00 a piece?
10:00 am on December 31st, 2012
Spence/Admin, please make sure ALL the FOC’s get into the random number generator. Statistically, there should be an even spread in the selections by now – older and newer friends.
10:02 am on December 31st, 2012
Wookie’s Dad!…Please check your SDD…grunt!
10:11 am on December 31st, 2012
Greetings!
The best place for Wookie’s dad to be…First! Whoooohoooo!
Yippee! Orion’ s handsome face is there for all to see at FOC! I believe he is the calendar dog for January.
Happy New Year’s Eve! Are we having a party tonight?
10:13 am on December 31st, 2012
Rio is up above. Only mentioning it because it irritates him.
10:17 am on December 31st, 2012
Rio, yes it is $500 per sponsored doggie. But it will only take say $20 to nominate a dog. Our thinking is that once one is nominated, no other nominations until we collect enough for that one. That way we won’t run the risk of a lot of only partially funded dogs. Do youse all agree with that method?
10:39 am on December 31st, 2012
OHs, I think that is a great idea!
11:06 am on December 31st, 2012
Wookie’s Dad First! Yes!!!
Welcome Orion. At last and just in time for FOTM.
And who do we see reclining up top? Whitely-Lance that’s who!
11:07 am on December 31st, 2012
Team!…So to sponsor the A-Team alone we need to barf up $8000.00…snort!…I think we better start buying some lottery tickets…wheeze!
11:08 am on December 31st, 2012
And let’s not forget the Feed the Giant fund!
Ponderering…do the Giant or his Best Damn Handler like pistachio nuts?
11:10 am on December 31st, 2012
Melanie? Are you okay?
11:15 am on December 31st, 2012
Howlers: That is a good plan.
Maggie: Hope the dreaded nail trimming is quick and painless.
Rose: Is the Prof feeling better? How did youse enjoy your little get-a-way at the cottage? Did you make friends with the new puppy?
11:15 am on December 31st, 2012
Wolfie, We missed your toffee this year, but maybe it was for the best. Barb is starting a DIET! Yikes!

I found Dawson’s husky pin (that she won at the boutique) on the porch yesterday. I am wearing it on my snowhook vest. I am styling!
SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE YOUR BOOTY!!!!
The Shake your Booty fund does not want to be forgotten….sniff
11:59 am on December 31st, 2012
I tried to put a photo with my post but the blog would not accept it. It was one I had used before so I am wondering what is going on?

Staff!…Is the Booty Campaign half way funded yet?…snort!
12:01 pm on December 31st, 2012
Masquers, the Prof was very sick Friday and Saturday, but we still had a lovely time at the little cottage. On Saturday, after breakfast, we went to CVS and got some Mucinex, and it helped quite a bit. The we got under the blankets , watched “Lost in Translation” as the snow gently fell outside.
We met the new puppy, Linc. He was very eager to make friends with us, as we were to make friends with him. He has done a lot for his mom and pop in helping them through the loss of Zelda . His dad said Linc was depressed for weeks after Zelda’s passing. He is a great dog! He has a wonderful puppy grin, and a twinkle in his eyes. He is a very big boy….100 pounds. He is very happy to be in his forever home, and so are his mom and dad.
Silly me, with all the lightning bolts, I easily forget things now, and of course, I forgot the camera, so we couldn’t take any pictures. Next time.
We did have a very lovely and relaxing time! Thank you for asking.
12:04 pm on December 31st, 2012
I see the handsome face of Siber-H up top!
12:07 pm on December 31st, 2012
I am late in sending my thanks to all who sent me Christmas cards. I feel so well today, it’s like I can finally do so much! Just in time for Safety Patrol. I expect a whole year of gluten-free healing and I will be back in the Christmas spirit next year.
I know I have to make more of my food to be sure it’s safe and I bought a Ninja cooker to make this easier. My slow cooker needed replacing and so far I love this. I’ve roasted chicken and ribs but haven’t slow cooked anything.
No more Grab ‘n Go food (I hope).
12:12 pm on December 31st, 2012
Rose: 100 lbs! Linc is right up there with Chet the Jet (pound-wise) and only a puppy.
MollysMom: Happy to hear you will be starting the new year feeling tip top.
12:21 pm on December 31st, 2012
Fellow Sibers, Yes, I am in agreement with the way you are doing the sponsorship of the Snowhook dogs. Thanks to your mom for taking on this responsibility.
I read your post about Team Tsuga. They did very well, indeed. I see some Iditarod veterans in the top ten in the final standings.
Mollypop’s Mom, Glad you are feeling better.
I have learned from you guys that gluten is very sneaky.
We got an inch of snow…Big Hairy Deal.
12:24 pm on December 31st, 2012
Rose!…Do not forget your camera when you go North to Alaska or else!…grunt!
12:26 pm on December 31st, 2012
Tonight is the Holiday Valley Torch Parade. The skiers come down the hill with real torches. Then at the bottom they throw the torches all in one big heap. It makes an enormous bonfire! Then fireworks.
Here’s a picture from last year. Not taken by me.

12:39 pm on December 31st, 2012
Also, the picture just shows the bottom of the trail. They do this all the way from the top. It’s awesome!
12:46 pm on December 31st, 2012
My! Husky Pin!
I wasn’t sure they would let me through airport security wearing a pin so I was going to put it in my checked luggage. Carpola. I also forgot to pack the spinach dip and the pumpkin spice dip that Linda Lurker sent me. Luckily I did bring along some pretzels in my carry on to munch on every time I felt down.
Staff: You better make that dip for tonight’s marathon card game.
Mollypop’s Mom: You are feeling tip-top just in time for the torchlight parade. Now don’t go eating any strange glutenous food. We want you feeling tip-top for the new year!
12:46 pm on December 31st, 2012
MollysMom: Beautiful!
12:48 pm on December 31st, 2012
Rio,
The Shake your Booty fund is at 764.00 of 2000 booties at $1 each. so we are just over 1/3 of the way. Sniff.
The dogs need YOUR help.

I will try to put up my photo again….
YAY!
12:54 pm on December 31st, 2012
Molly’s Mom: So glad to hear you are doing better. Every time the Prof and I do our food shopping, I think of you and Melanie, since there are always gluten free recipe books at the checkout lines!
12:55 pm on December 31st, 2012
Wow, MPM, That is a great picture. It must be awesome to see it in person.
Have you always had a gluten problem, or is that a recent thing? And does avoiding gluten make it worse when you accidently get some?
Barb has dropped me off at home and is heading back out. She said my performance at the vet’s was not my finest hour, whatever that means!
12:56 pm on December 31st, 2012
Barb, we here always enjoy your dinner menus. What will you eat on this diet?
12:56 pm on December 31st, 2012
Molly’s Mom, that is a gorgeous picture!
12:58 pm on December 31st, 2012
Masquers, I think Linc would make a wonderful candidate to play Chet in the movies!
1:01 pm on December 31st, 2012
Rio! I do not want to have my pant leg grabbed. I swear, and pinky swear to you, I’ll even have it tattooed on my body not to forget the camera! I promise you there will be many pictures of Junior to post on this here blog when we get back from Alaska! A good friend never let’s a friend down.
1:01 pm on December 31st, 2012
Melanie: What does that “Aarrrgh” mean? Are you okay? Did they find another broken bone on Zoe? Did the pack eat your lunch? Did Franklin disappear for real? Arrrgh!
1:05 pm on December 31st, 2012
MagPie – I know now that gluten was my problem all my life. I was very anemic from a baby and needed to go into the hospital when I was pregnant. I refused and now I’m so glad I didn’t do it. That was 50 years ago in the days of leeches and bloodletting!
I was diagnosed 20 years and again 10 years ago. Both times I stopped eating wheat but clearly hadn’t identified all gluten because I felt no different. Now that I am mostly gluten-free, I am supersensitive.
1:30 pm on December 31st, 2012
I love the way the Huskie is sitting in all his majesty on the sled in Staff’s picture.
Mollypop’s Mom: The scene is beautiful. It looks like a glowing pagent of energy.
Rose: I’m glad you had a lovely time. You deserve it.
1:44 pm on December 31st, 2012
Staff! We see what you mean…those Huskies need HELP…the Giant can’t be pulling the team all the way to the final line for Dogs sake.

Shake Your Booties!!!
2:16 pm on December 31st, 2012
Maggie: My Lady says I’ve had similar hours, many of which happened while I was running wild on the trail in 2010 by myself. I don’t know what she’s talking about—they felt fine to me. I will admit my hours got much better once I located AJ and took him home. Poor guy was lost without me.
2:22 pm on December 31st, 2012
I’m wondering what Maggie did at the vet.
I nominate Charlie as the next dog we sponsor. (Whispering: I’m sending a check to Snowhook for $50.)
2:26 pm on December 31st, 2012
AJ got up in the wee hours this morming to go on another hundred mile training run.
2:29 pm on December 31st, 2012
Sammy, Barb is not really going to count calories, but will just try to make better choices on food. No carry out fried stuff or pizza for one thing. She stocked up on some canned organic soups for lunch, also some Lean Cuisines. Both of those are around 220-300 calories. Breakfast will be oatmeal, poached egg or natural peanut butter on whole grain, with some banana. Dinner will be salad and a meat or fish, veggie and a small carb portion. Her biggest problem is late night eating, mostly salty snacks.
2:45 pm on December 31st, 2012
Barb&Magpie: Heh, heh. My problem is all day eating.
2:51 pm on December 31st, 2012
Staff: How is your lactose free diet going?
2:54 pm on December 31st, 2012
I think the dog in Staff’s picture might be a Malamute instead of a Siberian.
3:00 pm on December 31st, 2012
Siber: I think you are right about the photo.
You only got a wee bit of snow, but that’s still pretty kool!
3:16 pm on December 31st, 2012
Dawson,
My milk free diet is working wonders. Since August I have had problems and since I stopped with the milk it is amazing how much better things are going. Or not going if you get my drift. heh.
It took a while for the system to get cleaned out but I have a feeling the 3 half gallons of milk in the fridge are going to go bad before they get used up.
YaaaHHHHHHOoooOOOoooOOOooooooo…
Another wonderful donor has stepped up to the booty plate and our total now stands at 775.00. And my math challenged brain thanks you for evening out the total. I can do fives with no problem!
So far 16 plunderers, some more than once, have stepped up and donated to the booty fund. You are all wonderful wonderful plunderers and I thank you very much.
4:15 pm on December 31st, 2012
Hey Guys! I just went with the rents in the Sibaru to the ver for a most horrible procedure.
(Whispering) We actually went to their friend’s doggie apparel/furnishing/treats shop called Godfreys Welcome to Dogdom, but they are closed on Mondays. So instead, we went to a gorgeous place called Nolde Forest and hiked some snow-covered trails. Wow it was fun
4:27 pm on December 31st, 2012
Hey Pipsqueak, we can read you know.
Mom loves Staff’s picture, because it reminds her of a very funny Boris story. But that’s a story for another time.
Bee, thanks for nominating Charlie as our next Snowhook teammember to sponsor. We added him to our spreadsheet, and are ready for all who would like to help sponsor the guy who is earodynamic! Just email our mom the amount hou will be sending so she can keep a running total.
Awooo!
4:30 pm on December 31st, 2012
Oh and MPM, we would love to see those torches coming down the mountain. You live in a magical place, for sure. What happens if a skier takes a tumble while carrying a lit torch?
4:33 pm on December 31st, 2012
This is our favorite wine bottle. We got it from some friends several years ago. Is it time to open up a fresh one yet. Mom says yes, for sure.

4:35 pm on December 31st, 2012
Okay, I’m finally home. B.Stover, your description caught my imagination on fire! snicker.
There is a
hellheck of a lot of work around here in the morning. I have now told our go to guy, Jesse, that I will pick him up at 11. This allows me to get everything down and REST before having to do something else.Except for today.
Today, I was going to see Zoe and had to be there at 10:15 to call her financial guy and discuss some major issues. I was picking up Jesse at 9:30. Then my sister decided to come and said she would pick up Jesse.
Now that is not the ARGGGGG part.
4:38 pm on December 31st, 2012
Kat, Your horrible procedure sounds much better than my horrible procedure. Here is what happened to me this morning. Barb and two vet techs got me up on THE TABLE and put a muzzle on me then held me down. First paw went ok, and Barb thought it would be easy peasy.
Then all hell broke loose. I twisted and turned, got the muzzle off and tried too launch off the table. I tried to nip anyone who got their hands close to me. Not one of those I’ll take your hand off bites, more of a Don’t freakin touch me nips.
Finally they let me jump off the table, Barb got the muzzle back on and then put me flat on the floor. One tech laid her entire body over mine and gave me tummies while the other one did the rest of my nails. I heaved one big sigh and then let them have their way with me. Afterwards I wagged my tail and gave them kisses. Barb was pissed. Was it because I wanted to give kisses to someone else besides her?
4:41 pm on December 31st, 2012
I woke up this morning before 7 am to get everything done. I get dressed and ready. Get the dogs downstairs, turn up the heat, give Ellie her treat and get her outside. Everything is going to plan and on time.
Bring Ellie inside. Give pills to the dogs who get pilled.
Get the supplements into the dog dishes.
Make Ellie her peanut butter sandwich (she is not eating kibble).
Take the dishes to the dog room. Get the dog soup. Get the kibble. All from different places and, yes, I’m still using a cane.
Put breakfast together. Put Gracie’s dish outside and shut the dog door. (She’s pushy)
Give 6 others their food in the dog room.
Put the dog soup back on the stove.
Give Patsy her dish and then Ellie her dish.
Watch Ellie to make sure she eats her food and not Patsy.
Get Ellie outside again. Let Patsy eat the rest of Ellie’s food.
Open the dog door. Grace jumps into the bathtub to see if I spilt anything, the other dogs trade dishes and go outside.
This is still NOT the ARRRRGGGG part.
4:44 pm on December 31st, 2012
Then it’s time to do the Poop Patrol. Outside with a cane and a pitchfork. The Pack helps by barking at each other, getting in my way, barking at the river, getting in my way, playing the fence game, getting in my way, going into the Puppy yard, barking at the street, getting in my way and then we all go inside.
This is the ARRRRGGG part.
4:46 pm on December 31st, 2012
One of them, Rose (the four legged, not the two legged) has taken the DOG SOUP off the stove onto the floor and then several of them (judging by the foot prints in the gunk left) ate it!
This after the candy cane episode. Sigh.
I talked it over with Zoe (who is doing better now than she was when we got there) and we are now getting a GATE for the kitchen.
More on the visit to Zoe. Need to turn the heat up.
4:46 pm on December 31st, 2012
B&M: It sounds a lot like when we take Elim for the first round of vet checks for the race. It takes two techs to check his heart, one Giant to hold him still, and one best-damn-handling-wife to stroke ears and make promises of sleeping in the house, tummies and fish heads.
AJ cut his run short and only did a fifty. It was nearly 40 degrees. Warm!
4:48 pm on December 31st, 2012
Dear Maggie:
Did Wookie ever say why he got baths/grooming at home? Was it maybe because he launched his 100+ lb body off the table and made a beeline for the door with groomers in tow? Was it because he refused to go into their crates (remember those funny cartoons about animals with all 4 paws spread apart to avoid going into something? I swear he could do that! Was it because he could pull his paw away faster than you could say cookie???? He was finally banned from the groomers when he went limp and made them carry him into the bath (he could sit his tush down like no one’s business.) Oddly enough he LOVED getting blown dry – we referred to it as ‘spa day’ because he could gently turn a still wet area towards the dryer after another area was dry. A character for sure he would understand your reluctance. But remember to reserve kisses for MOM!
4:49 pm on December 31st, 2012
MollyPop’s Mom, I am looking at the Ninja cooker. Let me know how you like it.
Kat and MagPie, you are both brave members of the Nation Within.
4:55 pm on December 31st, 2012
Sorry, Melanie, but Mom is laughing.
4:56 pm on December 31st, 2012
Banned for life from the groomers! I knew our Wookie had a wild streak.
5:03 pm on December 31st, 2012
Didn’t mean to get right in the middle of your ARRRGGG story, Melanie. Wish I could have had some of that soup.
I am glad Mr. Wookie would understand. They said next time, no table.
5:08 pm on December 31st, 2012
Maggie, just tell them there will be no next time.
We lost a post and had to start over awhile back. Now we think we forgot the part in the first post where we told W-L we always knew that it was AJ who got lost in his first Iditarod.
5:14 pm on December 31st, 2012
Oh Maggie! What an “adventure.”
Howlers: I don’t have your email address which is why I posted here. Is it on Dishlickers?
5:21 pm on December 31st, 2012
Melanie: I probably would have said something other than ARRRGGG.
I always clipped Brandy’s nails myself. I probably hated it more than he did.
5:23 pm on December 31st, 2012
Macy: That wine looks interesting.
5:24 pm on December 31st, 2012
Funny story about the Wookster.
Magpie: Seems there are more than one of us who doesn’t like that “procedure”.
Tiger will be soooo proud! (But oh, poor Melanie)
5:27 pm on December 31st, 2012
B: Just ignore that last post (if you can) Gah!
5:29 pm on December 31st, 2012
Yes, Bee. Our email address is on Dishlickers. But it is fine that you posted here.
We hardly ever get our nails clipped. The rents are chicken, and we don’t get to groomers too often. Is that very bad?
5:34 pm on December 31st, 2012
I like the part of Wookie’s mom’s story where Wookie goes limp.
I will try that.
Melanie, Husky Hugs
5:34 pm on December 31st, 2012
A co-worker brings her dog, Holly to work all the time. Holly is our long-standing employee of the month and she is a love. My co-worker is chicken to cut Holly’s nails. Every so often, my co-worker, Holly and I all go into the big bathroom together—my co-worked has treats in paw, and I have the clippers hidden behind my back.
5:35 pm on December 31st, 2012
SiberH: I’ve employed that technique before. Just pretend you don’t have a spine, and think heavy thoughts. It works like a charm.
5:58 pm on December 31st, 2012
Limp!…Me and Beau use the magnetic paws routine. We become stuck to the floor and no one can pick us up…snort!…Unless of course we have our halters on and then the magnetic paw routine doesn’t seem to work as well…grunt!
5:59 pm on December 31st, 2012
I BOUGHT A GATE FOR THE KITCHEN.
Whew, just had to get that off my chest.
I love on-line shopping.
6:03 pm on December 31st, 2012
Wöökie’s Dad, you must be so proud of Wöökie. He knew how he wanted to look and how he wanted to be treated. snicker . .
What is it about The Nation Within being able to change the gravity under their butts when they don’t what to do something. Then, whoosh, the gravity well changes and they’re flying off into the wild.
Ellie can do that. When she wants to be she’s still faster than I am with my cane. Let’s see . . . In Large Dog age she’s 13 so in people years, she has Zoë beat!
6:04 pm on December 31st, 2012
Melanie – I really like the Ninja Cooker. My main use will be slow cooking and roasting. I doubt I’ll ever use the steam bake option.
I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond for $159 – their 20% coupon.
6:06 pm on December 31st, 2012
Sorry Wöökie’s Mom, I just figure it was Dad.
Dog Soup
Container of chicken livers
Bunch of rice
Butternut squash, cut up.
Heat for a long time.
Then clean it off the floor.
6:13 pm on December 31st, 2012
I meant to ask this earlier….What is a Ninja Cooker?
6:26 pm on December 31st, 2012
The visit with Zoë.
It turns out my niece decided to come and she was a bit late. She is NOW ENGAGED and needed to show Zoë her ring.
(Quite beautiful, very different and exactly what she wanted. Braided silver band with a light green quartz. She did NOT want a diamond)
We get down there and Zoe is in tears. She is in a great deal of pain. Last night’s two young nurses decided that she didn’t need her meds because she was doing so well. WHAT!! You have to stay ahead of the pain in this kind of damage! And that weird thing they put in her arm because her veins collapsed? Getting infected. Very painful.
The nurse comes in and says Zoe needs to go on a narcotic or morphine. We told her that wasn’t happening. She was not happy. Told her Zoë hadn’t gotten the pain meds the night before and to call the doctor. AND TO GET THAT THING OUT OF HER.
Now she’s telling Zoë she has to do PT and I’m on the phone with the Financial guy and interrupt her. I had already explained that this phone call had to be made and was very important and she needed to wait. Please call the doctor. I get Zoë on the phone with the guy, she’s in tears and tells him her info and that he can talk to me. I’m asking questions of both of them and writing down the answers and making sure that each other understands what is being decided. Nurse is still interrupting. My sister tells her to please leave and get the doc ON THE PHONE.
Finally get the money straight. Hang up. Now doing the bills. Nurse comes back. Meds will be what the doctor says, she’s getting the thing out of her arm and PT will be soon. Zoe says that is great but she’s not doing PT until the thing is out of her arm. This nurse thinks she STILL can win some point of argument. Needless to say, Zoe handled it. I love my mother.
We had a good time after that. I told her T&G’s story while she was getting the thing out of her arm. Kept both the RN and Zoe in hysterics. Thanks T&G.
She’s lonely. I believe something came for her in the mail after I got home. BSD and Masquers, are those two lovely things from you guys?
Got to rest now.
6:31 pm on December 31st, 2012
Wrap that quilt a little snugger, Melanie.
6:52 pm on December 31st, 2012
Oh Rebecca, I did a bad thing. I will email a correction to you soon. Yikes…
7:00 pm on December 31st, 2012
What a day for Melanie. Have a feeling she won’t be staing awake to welcome in the new year.
Barb is going over to Josh’s for a bit. Jessica is waitressing at the restaurant tonight till 9:00. One of their single friends is coming over with his two daughters who are preteen. Jessica’s mom is also coming over. She has called and asked if Barb will bring over #3, The Dog Who, for her to borrow. Barb introduced her to C & B and she loves them.
Will check back in when she gets back. Hoping to make it to the NYC New Year Celebration at least.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

Small correction, # 3 is TFAT. Dog Who is # 4. She will be taking both of them to Kathy to borrow (but not our signed copies). Later

Marathon!…My friend is home and after spending a bit of time with her mother we came downstairs. My friend was looking forward to a nice spaghetti dinner tonight, but was informed that someone else made her infamous goulash (gag!) with my friends sauce…grump!…We are now watching the New Years Eve Twilight Zone Marathon…heh!heh!

Mom is back from a long warm bath and a nap. We thought we were done for the night and had just gotten into our various beds. For Kat, that seems to be the Big Bed. For Meash, it is Mom’s recliner. For Dima and Sasha, they are kind enough to stick to their own beds. Now Mom is up and she says there will be dinner later. Hmmm…weird night.
That champagne looks good, BSD. Four glasses!

Evening all – we thought it was close to midnight, and then realized how early it actually was. But its been that kind of week.
Mama is going through one of those phases where everything she touches goes awry. She is normally a pretty fair cook – not so much this week. When Gramp doesn’t even finish his dinner – you know its pretty bad.
So, even though she KNOWS she is having a bad week, she decided to print out some stuff from the computer. Except that with the new %^&*#$%$# Windows 8, her printer will bo longer talk to the computer – and they used to be the best of friends.
She talked to the computer geek at Staples today. This same guy always seems to be at the help desk when she goes in. He is about 12 years old, and looks at Mama with such a patronizing gaze, ahe just knows he is thinking, “Oh, you poor old dinosaur”. Last time she was in, he was astonished that she still had a mouse with a wire. He said they hadn’t made wire mouses for “many years”. Oh, please.
Anyway, long story short – Mama now has a new wireless printer. But she is NOT installing it until her fit of “touch it and screw it up” phase is over!
9:00 pm on December 31st, 2012
2012!….We here, that is me and my friend, we just want this year to end….grunt!…Tomorrow she says she is going to do all those things she has put off doing and do them right away. And she is going to eat almost nothing and drink lots of water…grunt!heh!…And she is not going to let her mother push her buttons anymore…sniff!…And if she wants to bake, she will bake (but not eat it)…snort!…And she is going to save every penny after the Giant is on the Starting Line, and maybe start up an on-the-side business to sell her quilling projects…snort!…Maybe she feels she has reached a point in her ability where she is more confident and can sell this crap to strangers…heh!…Good luck with that. All youse guys are very kind hearted and buy her stuff, but strangers are another kind of nut to crack…wheeze!…Anyway, next year is going to be different. We can’t do this year over, no way!….Wooooo!
9:01 pm on December 31st, 2012
Elliot, it is nice to hear from you! May you have the happiest of New Years.
Since I am not the youngster I once was, I will not be making it to the ball drop.
So, I wish each and very Plunderer, and lurkers a very happy and healthy New Year, and the most of the best to you all!
Fifty-eight days and counting…..
9:02 pm on December 31st, 2012
I did talk to Zoe earlier. That nurse? She now understands that it’s Zoë’s way or the highway!
I’m headed up. Happy New Year All!
Here’s a picture of LizF’s 2013!
9:05 pm on December 31st, 2012
Wow!…I think I see our Liz in one of those sailboats drinking 4 glasses of champagne all at once…heh!heh!
9:06 pm on December 31st, 2012
Rio! To those people who were lucky enough to receive your friend’s art from me as a gift this year, I have told them if they are interested in having something custom made, to get in touch with me. I will then pass any requests to you. I am your friend’s biggest fan and will do whatever I can to get her art noticed!
9:11 pm on December 31st, 2012
Rose!…I will pass that along to my friend…snort!…I’m sure the orders will be pouring in and overwhelm her so that she has to quit that nasty horrible busy-place…grunt!…So far she has endured FOUR MONTHS of misery with crappy software that does not work and is not being fixed…snuff!…All the programmers are off on big vacations and everyone who has to use their sh*t is very unhappy…grump!
9:14 pm on December 31st, 2012
Wow! Liz’s New Year is pretty. and Bear’s champagne looks good.
We here in this house pride ourselves on not making it till the ball drops. If we are lucky, we will sleep through it and hope there isn’t too much noise….fireworks and guns.
Rio, It really is time to for your friend to start selling her quilling to the general public. It is beautiful, and there should be buyers for it.
9:17 pm on December 31st, 2012
SiberH!….Fireworks and Guns!…snort!….What could be better?…heh!heh!
9:23 pm on December 31st, 2012
Rio, I don’t like the noise and I don’t think you do either. I need a basement to go to, but we don’t have one.
9:26 pm on December 31st, 2012
SiberH!…You are always welcome here pal…snort!…Don’t be a stranger, but be sure to bring some beer if you do drop in…chuffle!
9:30 pm on December 31st, 2012
Siber – Gilly here. Tupper agrees with you. Right after dinner tonight, she started trembling and crying. MAma got down on the floor and held her, but there was something very wrong. Mama was just about to put her in the car and rush her to the ER when Dad turned on the tv. The news show was covering the First Night Fireworks display that was being held about 4 miles away. They finshed the finale, and Tupper calmed down almost right away. Honestly – do you think she could have heard fireworks that were 4 miles away???
9:33 pm on December 31st, 2012
Broadway!….Tunes! On the Kennedy Center tonight..wooooOOOoooOOOOOoo!…I like to WooooOOOOOoOOOOfff along…snort!
9:36 pm on December 31st, 2012
Lincoln!…Center, not Kennedy Center…heh!…Both very good presidents though. Not like what we got now…wheeze!

9:45 pm on December 31st, 2012
Fireworks have started! Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. This picture expresses my views on the pop! pop! pow! of fireworks. Luna tried to get in the shower with me, but then tried to crawl behind the toilet instead. She didn’t fit. We love our Mama, who stayed with us and spoke soft words.

9:48 pm on December 31st, 2012
Omydawg!…That is a priceless photo…snort!…And it makes me feel better about diving under the bed every now and then to look for that lost milk-bone when it thunders….heh!
9:50 pm on December 31st, 2012
Rio: I am afraid of fireworks and I’m not ashamed to admit it.
9:52 pm on December 31st, 2012
Tenzing!…Your ears are very straight…snort!
9:53 pm on December 31st, 2012
Sydney fireworks! Our friend Alan just called from there and said he was out in the harbor on a friends’s boat and that they were spectacular.
9:56 pm on December 31st, 2012
Wookie’s Dad: You mean your friend Alan didn’t have the good sense to hide in the shower stall? Poor guy. I hope he found a bed to hide under.
9:58 pm on December 31st, 2012
Zowie!…We know someone who knows someone who was actually there at the Sydney harbor…wow!
10:08 pm on December 31st, 2012
Love the photo, but you two have all my sympathy. I will wake mom up if it gets too bad tonight.
The display in Sydney must be one of the prettiest of all.
10:18 pm on December 31st, 2012
Why are all youse guys hearing fireworks already? It’s still almost 2 hours to go here on the East Coast, and way longer where Rio, Siber, Tenzing, and Luna live.
10:21 pm on December 31st, 2012
Howlers!…Here in the Wild Wild West they like to blow-up things and make a lot of noise. New Years is a very good reason to go krazy the earlier the better…grunt!
10:28 pm on December 31st, 2012
We are back home to watch the New Year on tv. When we saw that photo above it looke just like Mags when Eric the Evil comes over. We do not have many fireworks around here, Thank Dog.

10:29 pm on December 31st, 2012
In Alaska we don’t do fireworks on the fourth of July because you can’t see them. When it is dark all the time in the winter there seems to be fireworks for no reason in our neck of the woods—hey, it’s Thursday, let’s light up the sky!
10:30 pm on December 31st, 2012
Showers!…It’s the Bathroom Brigade….snort!…Luckily, it is very very quiet around this neighborhood right now…wheeze!…No embarrassing bathroom photos of me…sniff!
10:39 pm on December 31st, 2012
The shower would be the last place I’d hide.
10:42 pm on December 31st, 2012
SiberH!…Where is your favorite place to go when things get loud?…snort!
10:50 pm on December 31st, 2012
Rio, In the bedroom with mom.
Good Night Everyone
Happy New Year’s Eve
10:52 pm on December 31st, 2012
Bedroom!…That’s my favorite place too, with or without anyone else there…snort!
10:54 pm on December 31st, 2012
Maggie: I knew you’d appreciate my choice of accomodation.
SiberH: My mama stays by my side when I’m scared. It just so happens I decided the bathroom with it’s four walls and no windows was the ideal spot. And, wouldn’t you know it—there my mama was, by my side. She didn’t let on that she was scared, but I acted brave for her sake anyway.
10:56 pm on December 31st, 2012
Siber, Barb is not sure what the attraction to the shower is. Is it maybe a little like a cave? I was not allowed access to the closet, so this wwas the next best thing.
Barb came back from Josh’s early. She kept coughing and everyone kept saying “Are you Ok?” Easier to be here.
11:10 pm on December 31st, 2012
Barb!…Take some Airborn right now…snort!
11:12 pm on December 31st, 2012
We never get scared of fireworks in the summer, but Mom won’t let us out tonight, just in case. We just had a wonderful, fashionably late beef in chili sauce stir fry. Man! That smelled hot.
Now we are going to sign off and drink wine and champagne and watch 2013 come in. Happy New Year to all!
11:15 pm on December 31st, 2012
Late!…Eating late is fashionable?…grunt! …Go figure. Not me, I’m not very fashionable…heh!
11:20 pm on December 31st, 2012
For the first few years of his life, Wookie was not bothered by either fireworks or thunder, but the aversion started after that. Mom’s quilt studio (under her sewing table) was one good place to hide, although sometimes he would just wander back and forth between Debbie and me looking for comfort.
SiberH — I can guarantee that for Wookie as well, the bathtub would have been the last place he would have sought refuge — not a fear of water per se, but a definite dislike for baths (as the groomer story earlier indicated).
11:26 pm on December 31st, 2012
Wookie!…I’m still chorkeling over “Spa-Day” and Wookie’s love of the blow-dryer…heh!heh!
11:31 pm on December 31st, 2012
My Giant and Mama are staying put with me tonight. We are not in the bathroom, but rather sitting on the couch together. I’m doing my best to make sure they feel safe and calm.
11:38 pm on December 31st, 2012
Tenzin!…I want ears like yours…snort!…Straight as an arrow, both of ’em…sniff!
11:46 pm on December 31st, 2012
Rio: Those are my worried ears. My mama says she loves my ears. She also says she loves Charlie’s ears, but how can that be? Our ears are so different. Me with my stand-at-attention ears and him with his flip-flops.
11:57 pm on December 31st, 2012
Ears!…Mu friend likes to bend our ears backwards…sniff!…I always shake mine back in place, but Beau walks around with his bent backwards…grunt!…What a dork.
11:57 pm on December 31st, 2012
Happy New Year to you East Coasters. We still have another hour to stay awake, unless mom just decides that the ball drop is the official time. yawn…. The Others are here, but they already went to bed. Wimps.
Justin Case we don’t make it…Happy 2013 to all time zones.
11:59 pm on December 31st, 2012
Macy: Wishing you the happiest, miniest, piniest of new years!

12:12 am on January 1st, 2013
Up!…Well, we’ve fought the good fight, but there is no way we are going to be able to stay awake for 2 more hours…grunt!…Beau has been in bed since 8:15pm. I’m sure his paws are straight up in the air by now…wheeze!
Goodnight!…Lets all have a Happy New Year!…snort!

Thanks Tenzing! AJ, this is your year! Awooo!

Happy 2013. We made it too. Now watching Dustin Hoffman on David Letterman. Good start to 2013.
12:17 am on January 1st, 2013
Carpola! We are watching some strange dude called Pitbull. He doesn’t look like any pitbulls we know. Pop told Mom that everytime she thinks this guy stinks: Drink! She is ready to down the champagne because that guy is awful.
12:28 am on January 1st, 2013
Rio: Here, here! Let’s all have a happy new year with the best friends, like Barb and Maggie said, we could have!
12:31 am on January 1st, 2013
Pitbull did the theme to Men in Black III, a most entertaining movie that we got dad for Christmas. In fact, he performed it tonight. Overall, however, we are not fans.
12:31 am on January 1st, 2013
Wookie’s Dad, Letterman is only just now coming on here.
12:42 am on January 1st, 2013

Goodnight, Tenzing. Our bubbly is about gone.
1:14 am on January 1st, 2013
Good night, all youse and happy new year!
1:15 am on January 1st, 2013
Our bubbly is just about gone as well. I went out and ran around with all the fireworks going off, so I guess I don’t mind them. I was just happy to be out front, off leash, life is good.
1:21 am on January 1st, 2013
Hurray for the amazing Macy!
1:34 am on January 1st, 2013
Macbeth is a new one. Happy New Years Macy, OHowlers and Tenzig. Looks like we are the last ones up. The neighbors who always shoot off a little bit of fireworks did it again this year and Alice and Abbie went for the stairs on a dead run and up they went. There is not bathtub there but lots of beds to huddle under.
Mr.Staff is not tired at all but I am going to bed as soon as I shut this computer off.
Happy New Years to all the rest of you who will read this in the morning. I have enjoyed the stories of Wookie tonight. I have to say that I am glad that year is over.

Hey! When did we go to bed? Why are the rents holding their heads? We are feeling tip top…every single one of us.
