Friend of the Month Reminder!
“Last day of August already?” says Spence.
“Ou sont les soleils d’antan?” says Admin.
“Huh?” says Spence. “Anyway it’s time to remind everyone that today’s the last day of eligibility for September’s Friend of the Month contest. All you have to do is upload a photo to the Friends of Chet gallery. The random # generator does the rest! If you’re already in the gallery you’re eligible till the cows come home.”
“Ou sont les vaches d’antan?”
“Prize is a signed copy of The Dog Who Knew Too Much and the winning Friend of the Month is displayed for the entire month in the special place over on the right where Bob is now. Easy, fun, and we’ll throw in a vegematic slicer.*”
Welcome Lefty from Snowhook Kennel (“our” team in the Iditarod. Go Snowhook!)
*all 100% true except for the slicer part.

Good morning all.
We gotta believe that’s the first time vaches and d’antan were used in the same sentence.
Happy Labor Day L

Good Friday Morning, BlueCat! I guess that’s French, but I don’t know what it means!!!

Lefty is a FOC! I just want to hug him, and roll around in the snow with him. B’s portrait looks exactly like the photograph!!

Good morning!
Where are the suns of yesteryear???? I guess that is the fancy French way of saying “Where does the time go”.

To answer some questions from last night’s blog:
BelleStarr, no more lightning bolts at the moment. Doesn’t mean the Smoochers (including the lovely Kat) can’t drop in once in a while. How humiliating to be put in a bucket, while you two-legged read your e-mail.
Rio! Prof and I save money every year for vacation. I had to bust open my piggy bank for Golinka’s bears and jewelery, but it was definitely worth it!
Masquers, my friend: It took months of persuading. Originally, I was going to make the trip myself. Rebecca graciously offered up the spare room in their home. Well, when the Prof heard that, he said “NO!” I guess he though the Giant and SnowBella would grind me as sausage to feed to the doggies. He insisted I stay in a hotel. Just last month, he asked me if I still had plans to go to Alaska. I said yes, I did. He agreed to come with me when he heard we would be able to see the Northern Lights from the hotel we are staying in, the Agate Inn. That was the frist selling point, the second was I told him that we might be able to get a ride on the sled with AJ. (You mean with the dogs, the Prof asked) Of course, with the dogs came my response.
BTW: We have a one hour stop over in Seattle. If you can hitch a ride to the airport, I can bundle you up inside my coat for the trip to Alaska. BelleStarr wants you to come.

O Yeah! Welcome Lefty! Good idea to join up last day of the month…you just might win FOM.
9:26 am on August 31st, 2012
Smart move, Lefty. That random # generator seems to pick high numbers. I better get another picture out there.
9:26 am on August 31st, 2012
Good morning, y’all! I’m not sure how much I’ll be here the next few days. Today is Mom’s day off, but she’s getting ready for her trip to the book festival in Georgia this weekend, so she’ll be in and out today, and then gone all Saturday and Sunday. And Dad has his first football game of the season on Saturday — with less than two weeks of practice, he says they’re gonna get slaughtered. 🙁 So not only will nobody be around to turn the computer on for me, it looks like I’ll be stuck here most of the weekend with only Those Pugs and Those Kats for company! Oh snigglefritz!!!
10:02 am on August 31st, 2012
Quel gachis! Comcast is still making “system modifications.” I wish they would leave my cable alone.
To me the look on Lefty’s face is, “I’m completely misunderstood.”
Good morning all.
10:13 am on August 31st, 2012
French!…Admin asks, “Where are the suns of yesteryear?” and Spencer, bless his pointy little heart asks, “Where are the cows of yesteryear?”…snort!…His french version of a joke…heh!
Stover!…What a mess!…snort!
10:34 am on August 31st, 2012
Oui! Riö knows French. Bluecat, the Howlers & B too.
B: Our cable is running smoothly, but yesterday was not so we haven’t been able to enjoy it.
Kirby: Hope your weekend isn’t too rough and Sammie, it never hurts to keep those FOC photos coming. One never knows how the random generator works.
Rose: Moi? North to Alaska too? WoooHoooo!!!
10:36 am on August 31st, 2012
Lefty seems to have something up his sleeve. What, I’m not sure.
We did make a promise to be on our best behaviors, but could make no promise about Belle Starr. I can’t wait to meet Rose!

As I’m catching up on the blog, I see Barb not wanting to read The Hunger Games for the same reason I didn’t want to read it. At a friend’s urging, I borrowed it for free on my Kindle just to show her I didn’t like it. Quelle surprise! It is not at all like I thought. I couldn’t put the book down!
10:45 am on August 31st, 2012
I think both French sentences are Admin’s. He’s in good form today.
10:49 am on August 31st, 2012
Admin!…Awwww, Stover, you are right!…snort!…I don’t think Spencer speaks French. He speaks English and Dawg…heh!
10:51 am on August 31st, 2012
Okay Mollypop’s Mom. I’ll attempt The Hunger Games.
My cable keeps going out which means that my internet keeps going out. I seem to remember reading that Comcast is selling some of its broadband space to…..someone. That I think is the problem right now. There here ruining my system. I may have to say a few words to those guys.
10:52 am on August 31st, 2012
Morning all. Heading out to get some paint samples for the master bedroom. Just finished a two tone green stripe in the guest room, and carpet is going in there tomorrow. Making a little progress.
Hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday weekend planned.
Molly’s Mom, I know everyone loves the series, but still going to say no for now. The library here is huge compared to Lena’s library. Have to check it out soon.
10:52 am on August 31st, 2012
Mollypop’s Mom: Same here…we didn’t want to read the book but did watch the movie and liked it. Movies and books sometimes are quite different so we aren’t sure about getting into the stories until we have watched all three film versions.
Spencer speaks English and Dawg. Good one Riö! Snort.
10:53 am on August 31st, 2012
Rio: LOL! And Spence speaks dog so well.
(That should be “their” in my previous post. See…Comcast is ruining my day.)

Good Morning Everyone!
Sadly this is the last morning Bob will be bringing in the morning’s paper on the blog as FOTM.
Forgot to say…we liked B. Clark’s review of yesterday…it helps not to have read the book before hand and that she is obviously a huge fan of Chet.
Barb: Missing CLL yet? Snicker.
Getting the new house all fixed up to suit your tastes. What fun! How close to Kelly and the grands are you?
Magpie: How are you adjusting to city life?
B: I’m sorry about your Comcast woes. Hope they finish whatever “upgrades” they are doing pronto.
SnowBella: Thank Dog the door was locked when AJ came home!
Dawson: You are indeed Awesome…A speed reader extraordinaire.
Staff: Going to your link right now.

Before I go shopping I wanted to respond to Bear.
Funny CL story – Monday was Faye’s birthday and the two office assistants brought in pizza and cake at lunch time. Faye is her main agent and does most of the selling. Pat came in and asked what the cake was for. Did she go back to Faye’s office and wish her happy birthday? Hell no! Did she give her a card? Ditto! She did however, ask is she could take some of the cake home for her and her husband!
So the answer is No, I don’t miss her!!!
Josh and his family are 4 1/2 miles away, so under 10 minute drive. We are 30 minutes from Kelly’s home and 30 minutes from her lake house at Lake Geneva. Sure beats 2 hours!
Maggie is still barking but seems to be figuring out that “it’s not her business”, which is what I keep telling her. She has found her fav spot- the master bath is cool and dark and she likes to park on top of the a.c. vent. Her own personal cave.
OK, now really have to go. BBL
11:52 am on August 31st, 2012
Thanks for the update, Barb. How wonderful to have the family close by!
Maggie: Your own personal cave…how kool…and, with the ac running, we mean that literally.
Staff: Interesting (and amusing) research on DogTV. Nine dollar subcription? I think not! There is a CatCondoCare place in our vicinity that shows your pampered kitty non-stop videos of a fish tank. Boring!
12:01 pm on August 31st, 2012
Glad to see that Maggie is figuring things out so well. For me, my favorite spot is next to the a/c vent in the great room. Cool, cool, cool. I sometimes even rest my head directly over the vent, like today, with our temperatures going back up to the mid-90s.
One minor point of clarification about what my dad refers to as my table dancing phase. I really was never a counter-surfer per se. I actually did just jump up on the dining room table (my vertical leaping ability was much greater then) and do a little dance on the dining room table and get down. Maybe you could call instead my boogie-wookie phase. No snacks necessarily involved.
Wookie
12:15 pm on August 31st, 2012
Fortunately I have never had first hand experience of that katty establishment. When Mom is away our neighbor takes excellent care of moi. Left in an enclosed space for days? It makes me shudder to think about it.
Boogie-Wookie…now I am picturing you with a top hat and cane dancing across the table.
12:30 pm on August 31st, 2012
I don’t understand French. Mom would tell you I don’t understand English either.
Barb, We are so glad you are away from the CL forever.
Good Morning and Good afternoon everyone.
Blue Wolf Moon tonight!
12:39 pm on August 31st, 2012
A friend and I are driving to Anchorage for the Labor Day weekend. She has bought Rosetta Stone’s French cds….so we plan to learn French on the way. Seven hours down, seven hours back.
1:15 pm on August 31st, 2012
SiberH: It is very appropriate that there is a Blue Moon again tonight, as Neil Armstrong will be laid to rest today.
Masquers, can you make to the airport? February 26th….
1:39 pm on August 31st, 2012
Hey everyone. We notice that neither Spence nor Admin ever do sentences in Welsh. hmmm
Poor Melanie – the computer doctor is coming to day to see if their computer/entertainment system/connection to the outside world can be fixed. So far we haven’t heard a single gunshot from the hill, signifying that there was no hope.
The cargo van has new tires. Mama has a much thinnner wallet.
(Rio – a cargo van only has two seats – the rest of the body is empty to hold, you guessed it, the cargo)
Oh – and the Wrotten Kats are in disgrace. Mama’s brother came for dinner the other night, and she made a big pot of spaghetti. After dinner, we all walked Bro out, and it was so lovely, Mama, Dad, Gramp, Gilly and I all ended up sitting out on the breezeway for a while.
Later we all went in and worked together to clean up after the big dinner.
This morning, Gramp asked Mama about how to remove spaghetti splort stains from his beige quilt. And since Gilly and I not only can’t reach either Gramp’s bed or the table, and also have an alibi of sitting on the breezeway with them, the guilty party MUST be the Kats – except Basil won’t eat people food, and Sage LOVES pasta.
Hmm
Sage is hiding. Mama is considering giving us back our packing tape, box, and labels.
1:58 pm on August 31st, 2012
Siber-H: I will be joining you in celebration of a rare Wolf Blue Moon tonight. Wooooooo (tuning up for the Big Howl. Heh)
Tupper&Gilly: Will you be joining your momma and dad at the beach? What about Gramp? or will he be keeping the home fires burning and taking care of Callie & those ——- kats?
Melanie: May the Mac Doctor soon have you up and running!
Are YSAS & Friend returning to the Big Apple today? What a memorable time she must have had with the River Bears and all of youse.
2:15 pm on August 31st, 2012
BSD – We are going to the beach with them. We get our own bed, and we get a platform on the screened in porch where we can keep an eye on all the nightbors. They get all excited about lobster – we get all excited about leaving the Wrotten Kats home!
Barb – we can’t wait to see pics of your new home when you get it “just so”. We know it will be beautiful!
And we are getting our howling voices tuned up for tonight!
2:26 pm on August 31st, 2012
CHobbit: We here have always wanted to learn French. Let us know how the 14 hours of “on the road lessons” go. You’ll either love it or hate it by the end of the trip.
HerbKats: The beach is no place for kats. Besides, you will have the run of the house and Gramp will pamper you silly.
Siber: I can’t howl but can yowl with the best of them. Someone here is giving me the thumbs down on that idea.
Rose: Airport meeting? A wonderful idea but how to do it. Mom could let me loose to meet you at the plane and smuggle on board. But she can’t think of a way to actually meet you and the Prof in person because of all the TSA regulations. Sigh. Gone are the days when folks could actually see family and friends off at the gate.
2:40 pm on August 31st, 2012
Hi, guys! Mom was wondering if any of you have read “The Neighbor” by Lisa Gardner? A friend at work recommended it to Mom and it is excellent. Very suspenseful. It came out in 2009. Mom will probably get more of her books.
Happy Labor Day! Mom has to work until 10 or 11 tonight and then a 3 day weekend! Yea!
G& BB
2:42 pm on August 31st, 2012
Rose, I will remember Armstrong tonight when I howl at the moon
Masquers, Yowling will be just fine.
2:46 pm on August 31st, 2012
Masquers: will report back. I figure any French would be an improvement over the two words I know (merci and ooo la la). I am hoping for some swear words as I am sure they sound elegant in French. I might need them by the end of the trip. Maybe B knows some.
2:49 pm on August 31st, 2012
Thank you for the thumbs up, Siber.
Armstrong will be remembered here too.
Rose: I will never say never. We have 6 months to come up with a plan!
G&BB: That book sounds good. We will check to see if our library has it.
Have to go for now. Happy Labor Day Weekend everybody!
2:57 pm on August 31st, 2012
We will definitely be howling at the Blue wolf Moon tonight. How wonderfully fitting that Neil Armstrong will be laid to rest under the Blue Moon. Thanks for that information, Wose.
Learning French during a 14-hour roadtrip sounds like a great idea!
3:07 pm on August 31st, 2012
Yippee!…I just got a text from my friend at the busy-damned-place and she says she will be home early…snorkel!…Unless she stops off for a ton of margaritas with friends…grunt!…So much for coming home early…sniff!
3:18 pm on August 31st, 2012
Rio, You and Beau could go out for beer and hot wings.
3:36 pm on August 31st, 2012
CHarris: “Sacre” (with an accent mark over the e) and “zut” which is fun to say…with fervor!
3:39 pm on August 31st, 2012
What does it mean, Bee?
3:50 pm on August 31st, 2012
CHarris: Here’s a link to French swear words:
http://www.francetravelguide.com/french-swear-words-my-10-favorites.html
3:57 pm on August 31st, 2012
Howlers: “Zut” basically means “d a m n it!” It can substitute for any four-letter-word in English.
4:06 pm on August 31st, 2012
I had my vision of what my last day of work might be like, but here’s what really happened. I was finishing my Facebook post at 9:15 when my wife called saying that my son had thrown his back out and was in extreme pain. Get to Queens. By the time I got there, he was sitting up and was over the worst. We got his doctor called and she phoned in a prescription for me to pick up. That plus the icy hot patch seemed to be doing the trick. Jobs come and go, but parenthood is forever.
4:11 pm on August 31st, 2012
Thanks, Bee.
5:06 pm on August 31st, 2012
What a last day, Terry. Glad to hear you son is improving.
5:26 pm on August 31st, 2012
Home!…Hey, someone surprised us and came home right away…snort!…Boy was Beau happy. I bet if she had a video kamera she would have video’d his Yeeep!Yeeep!Yeep! and his twirling and tail chasing…heh!heh!…Wot a racket!…grunt!…Her mother says there is something wrong with guys who chase their tails…sniff!…Like me, Beau has never seen or caught his tail…chorkel!
5:53 pm on August 31st, 2012
Book!…Bliss! We are camped out downstairs with the Charming Mr. Abrahams very first book….snorkel!…Beau is upstairs with her mother so I have her all to myself. What a great afternoon this is turning out to be…..wooooo!…Later she is going to go get take-away from our local sports bar which has excellant food…sniff!sniff!…I hope!hope!hope! its the chicken fingers…yowser!
6:32 pm on August 31st, 2012
Rio: your friend has the right idea. This morning I told AJ, as I looked at the sheets of rain out of our bedroom window that I’d like to spend the day curled up with a good book. He said not to get too comfortable with the idea because we have more work to do on the cabin when I get home.
6:36 pm on August 31st, 2012
Rebecca!…I was wondering if anyone was around this afternoon and I was almost ready to make Beau speak French to find out…heh!heh!…Close call there, as his French is very rusty and closet-driven…sniff!
6:38 pm on August 31st, 2012
Cabin!…So what is still left to do to make The Cabin In The Woods livable?….heh!…And have you named the Cabin? I really think you should name the Cabin, I really really do…snorkel!
6:40 pm on August 31st, 2012
Yeep! We are closing our office early today, too!
6:46 pm on August 31st, 2012
Rio: We need to finish a little bit of drywall, tape it, paint the walls, find and install a woodstove, build a little kitchenette and finish some trim work on the exterior. All this needs to be done by Monday at the latest.
Right now, we do refer to it merely as the Cabin. Some adjectives have been added preceding said name.
AJ speaks French. Oh la la.
6:48 pm on August 31st, 2012
Rebecca!…Drive like the wind and don’t look back!…snort!…My friend tried to do that today and got caught in heavey traffic because of an accident that happened almost right in front of her…grunt!….She veered off and took a different route only to be caught in road-work-ahead type traffic…grunt!…Eventually, an HOUR after being let go early from the busy-damned-place she made it home safely…gruffle!…So fly like the wind Rebecca, don’t waste your free time sitting traffic jams…grumble!wheeze!
6:51 pm on August 31st, 2012
Giants!…Can do-it! Get the Damned-Cabin-In-The-Woods done by Monday…heh!heh!…I like the name now…snorkel!…Oh,oh! Someone is going to go for food now because someone else likes to eat very early…heh!…I love it!
6:55 pm on August 31st, 2012
Rio: Thank you for the well placed advice. I am closing down the computer right now.
6:59 pm on August 31st, 2012
I have tried to make sense of the comments. It’s not youse guys. I am freaking tired!
I’ll be going to bed very very very very soon.
I was better with the first page. Hmmm, let’s see.
I thought everyone had read The Hunger Games so I didn’t mention that I just finished the last of the books. I COULD NOT STOP READING THEM!
I am now reading “The Beautiful Mystery: A Chief Inspector Gamache Novel” by Louise Penny. Excellent.
Had a GREAT time with YSAS and Friend. Also Hospice is very upset with that group Nasty Woman is with. The Hospice nurse was great today. She calmed Dan down.
TTFN!!!

Did youse guys know that Irish Football starts tomorrow? In Ireland, no less! Woo Hoo!
7:09 pm on August 31st, 2012
Perhaps the cabin should have a French name.
7:24 pm on August 31st, 2012
Terry, what an eventful last day! Glad your son is on the mend!

B, is Le Petit Chateau French enough?
I apologize in advance for any and all errors.

Lefty looks like he is saying what I always say at home…I get blamed for everything.
7:36 pm on August 31st, 2012
Masquers, I have no idea what the Seattle Airport looks like. I’m sure the Prof and I will be looking for a quick snack. If the airport has a Starbuck’s, meet us there. I’ll have my Chet the Dog ID on.
7:55 pm on August 31st, 2012
Stover!…heh!snort!heh!…Indeed! A French name ending with Zut would be just right…heh!
8:11 pm on August 31st, 2012
Ending in zut indeed. How about Chez Chien?
8:18 pm on August 31st, 2012
Last day of the month already! See you later, Bob. Don’t get any on ya.
And a blue moon…you know I will be howling tonight.
I read the Hunger Games…the first book was “unputdownable” and the other two were awfully good.
Staff: I loved your link to the “scientific” study of Dog TV. One of our cats has taken to watching the Oasis channel. So much so that we had to arrange it so she couldn’t jump up on the table and swat at the screen.
Wose: I bet you and the Professor will have the time of your lives up in Alaska. I hope Whitey-Lance behaves during your sled ride! Heh.
Now, I’m reading Robbie Forester and the Outlaws of Sherwood St., the original “unputdownable” book. Thanks for leaving it here for me Staff.
.
8:24 pm on August 31st, 2012
Sherwood!…Awww, now Robbie Forester, that is a very different book and a side of our author we have never really seen before…snorkel!…All that levitating…heh!…We here really enjoyed it and are waiting to find out more about the mysterious powers…chuffle!
8:48 pm on August 31st, 2012
B: Lefty has tried to convince me that he is completely misunderstood. It is usually immediately after he’s stolen a glove of my hand and it is running away with it in his mouth. It usually sounds like, “mpletelymishudatood.”
9:01 pm on August 31st, 2012
Chez AJay? Although Chez Chien is better.
Melanie, We only had to tell one person not to come back. I don’t know what she did to make our sweet little Maggie upset but it didn’t matter. She was history.
(We blamed it on the fact that she reeked of cigarette smoke.)
I have been having tummy upsets, but feel much better today. I spent most of yesterday under the covers. I rotated between 3 quilts depending on where I was.
The Orioles are gone. Yesterday afternoon I thought they might be gone and today I saw only one male. Mr.Staff, who sits on the back porch much of the day, says he saw none. I knew it wouldn’t be long because they have been eating the grape jelly and oranges like they were starving. They have to bulk up before the long trip. I hope they will miss the remnant of the hurricane.
9:10 pm on August 31st, 2012
I got my picture in FOC this afternoon but it’s still in moderation (which I have come to hate). I’m planning on winning this tomorrow.
9:31 pm on August 31st, 2012
I’m watching, for the one thousandth time, the replay of Clint Eastwood from last night. His suit jacket is so ill-fitted. He has tons of money. Who got him dressed?
9:33 pm on August 31st, 2012
Sammie!…Step aside youngster!…snort!…I plan on winning it ALL this month…heh!heh!gruffle!
9:35 pm on August 31st, 2012
Rebecca: LOL! Lefty loves gloves.
I like the sound of Chez Chien.
The robins have been gone from here for a while.
9:40 pm on August 31st, 2012
Mollys Mom!…He is old, very old…heh!…No one got him dressed, he did it himself…snort!…We really were impressed with the Senater from Florida who spoke right after Clint…sniff!
9:41 pm on August 31st, 2012
Senator!….The first thing he said when he got up to the podium after Clint was “I think I just drank Clint Eastwood’s water.”…heh!heh!
9:43 pm on August 31st, 2012
One of the best things we like about the beach is that there is a field we walk in for- well you know for what. Anyway, there is a big hedge that has yellow flowers and in September, the monarch butterflies are there by the hundreds, flitting around the hedge, resting on the grass. There are so many that we usually end up with butterflies riding on our backs. It’s so beautiful
9:44 pm on August 31st, 2012
Cabin!…How about a cabin named Chez Lefty? If you stay there all your stuff eventually goes missing…snort!
10:04 pm on August 31st, 2012
We are back from the b-day party but going to bed soon. Had a good time.
We watched the Clint 11 minute speech and the funniest part was the shots of the Romney family and the Ryan family and the looks on their faces. A little funny, like they weren’t quite sure what was going on.
Be back tomorrow. Night all.

Bayou Country!…heh!…It just dawned on me that the post the other day is from the Chet an Bernie Mystery that is is being written now!…heh!…Good ole Spence was giving us a peek into the future, so to speak…snorkel!

the moment this time I am visiting this web page and reading very informative articles
or reviews at this place.
