I don’t think I’ve ever seen cows coming home being a city girl and all. I would love to see the picture! It was nice having Kat blur along with the Smoochers….I almost didn’t want to send her back, but Luna was the voice of reason.

Being a country resident for the last 6 years, Barb has seen lots of cows. Dairy cows come home twice a day to be milked. as it becomes very uncomfortable after 12 hours. If they are pastured, they walk back to the barn. Some dairy cows can produce 100 lbs.plus of milk per day (12 gallons) so they want it out of there!

B — A vegematic is a device for slicing vegetables that was advertised on tv many, many years ago as the next greatest invention that you could get for only $19.95 plus shipping (or something like that). One of the original special order things ever advertised on tv that way. Not to be confused with vita-meata-vega-min (let’s see who remembers what that was).

That was one of the funnies Lucy shows. She was doing an advertisement for the vita product and she did so many retakes that she was sloshed. Classic Lucy humor.
I don’t know what would happen if they didn’t get milked. Mastitis probably. Cows have to gradually wean, just like a human does if they are breast feeding. That is what it is after all. We just don’t think of it that way, thanks to the dairy industry.

Good Morning, All,
It’s one of those rare days when my dad gets a chance to boot the computer and read the blog while I assume most of you are still awake. The summer has been so busy that I’ve been getting home very late and either haven’t had the energy to blog or thought that it was too late to connect. As a matter of fact today is going to be a catch up day to work at home for my dad. There’s much to do here, but he’s neglected it to work elsewhere. Filling in and helping out have been the themes of his “retirement”. I’ll probably spend the day keeping cool on my sooth soft bed and praying for rain. I think that things are coming together with the new store and that we’ll have more days at home soon so that we can keep in better touch. We’ve been out of touch for too long.

Since we all have in common taking walks with our dogs, I thought I’d post a photo — and challenge youse to do the same. Last night Sadie, Lady and I walked the ‘hill route.’ We are about a third of the way up the hill but the mosquitoes were very thick so we came back down and were insect fodder for only 30 minutes. Oh, and we met a man carrying a rifle and a gun with lots of ammo which gave me pause as it was late at night. I must look up when hunting season for moose starts. A normal walk for us is 60-90 minutes. Rio: we want to see a photo of your so called “brutal walks.”

CHobbit!… Are you suggesting I do not go on a brutal walk?…grunt!…You are correct. This summer it has been so hot we’ve been doing shorter, flatter walks. That is all Beau can handle in the heat…sniff!…My friend still does the Brutal Walk when she can find the time and energy…heh!…She is determined to do it every night again starting Aug. 1st or even tonight if all goes well….chuffle!

Yes Spence and Admin, the earth’s rotation did speed up. Last year’s Japan earthquake shifted the earth’s axis by several inches and shortened each day by 1.8 microseconds. I’m having enough trouble getting everything done that I want to do in a day, but now this. Oh man!

Gus had his surgery today and the poor guy is miserable. And on top of everything else, he is wearing a plastic bucket on his head. Mom says I have to stay outside tomorrow because I have been known to be a good nurse doggie and I like to lick and make things better.
Mom got off work at 4:59 and was at the vet’s office by 5:03. They close at 5:00 and the receptionist was pretty rude to mom. Uh oh, not a good idea. Mom is going to call the other vet in town and see what time they close. It may be time to switch offices.
