Friend of the Month Reminder
“Not quite the last day of the month,” says Spence.
“But a very busy time of year,” says Admin. “So therefore – although Bernie handles the so therefores- why not remind everyone of the Friend of the Month? Check the right of the screen. See Teddy Rough Rider? He’s Chet’s December Friend of the Month. His human companion sent in a photo to the Friends of Chet gallery. The random number generator – “
“East German Army surplus, circa 1956 – “
” – did the rest. Winner stays over there for the month and the winner’s human companion gets a signed and paw-printed copy of the latest Chet and Bernie novel, in this case The Sound and the Furry. Just send in a photo! For example, Zeb just came in.”
Welcome Zeb, and here he is:

Good morning all.
9:55 am on December 30th, 2013
Good morning, B! Wake up, sleepyheads! Mom is already at work…boo hiss!
Thinking of you today, Melanie!
9:56 am on December 30th, 2013
Good MOrning, B. and All.
True Zeb is a Handsome Dog and he is welcomed.
But our very own Ruff Rider is Gone Too Early. sniff.
10:03 am on December 30th, 2013
Good morning all. We have enjoyed having Teddy as FOM. BSD is right, too soon gone. Oh well, we must move on. Maybe Rio will get it this time. Or maybe me, me, me.
Lyla and Jack are coming over for the morning. Yay!
10:03 am on December 30th, 2013
It’s 41 & foggy this morning.
Dawson: Don’t you be sending any of that snow and cold air down our way…you hear?
Thinking nothing but positive thoughts for our Melanie.
10:10 am on December 30th, 2013
Good morning, all. Best of our love to Melanie.
Zeb is very good looking.
We read last night’s posts and we have a question for the Snowhook pack: why are Elim and natty in the house? They are A-team, aren’t they?
Pop is home today and tomorrow and the next day! They are going thru their inventory of hats, gloves, face masks, etc., in preparation for shopping for supplies for Way up North!
10:33 am on December 30th, 2013
O’Howlers: Tomorrow is the Eve of the New Year. Yay for your Pop…Home to Celebrate.
Barb&Magpie: We are sure a Certain Pug has lost all hope of seeing his curly tail At The Top all month. But then, crazier things have happened.
Never Give Up is what I always say.
10:47 am on December 30th, 2013
Melanie!….sniffle!snort!
11:38 am on December 30th, 2013
I love Zeb!
Melanie on my mind.
WeatherKat: I’m trying to keep the snow (not so much the cold) up here but I do hear complaining from the neighbors who are trying to ship this weather somewhere, anywhere else.
11:49 am on December 30th, 2013
Dawson, Give your neighbors my address.
Good Morning All
12:06 pm on December 30th, 2013
Greetings!
We are making preparations to leave our little cabin today. sniff
Melanie, thinking of you today.
Macy, sorry to hear about grandma.
It was great having Teddy as the FOM. Whenever I needing cheering up, I just looked at that happy, smiling face.
Dawson, stay warm and safe! We here in NY would love some snow. There are several ski resorts where we are staying. Nothing but a s&@tload of rain yesterday.
12:13 pm on December 30th, 2013
Hearts to Melanie and Macy.
12:25 pm on December 30th, 2013
Siber-H is making me laugh.
12:30 pm on December 30th, 2013
Me too!
SiberH is making me laugh.
12:32 pm on December 30th, 2013
Macy and Melanie in our thoughts. Is it a magnanimous Monday? Oh, and Wolfie, tell your mom we LOVE the toffee.
12:36 pm on December 30th, 2013
CHobbit: Now you know where to send your snow.
We happen to know a certain Siber who is waiting with baity breath.
Macy: Tough situation for your family. Hoping things will improve very soon.
12:52 pm on December 30th, 2013
Howlers: The answer to your question is threefold: 1) I am very persuasive, 2) Natty is very sneaky, and 3) the Giant is a pushover.
1:03 pm on December 30th, 2013
Christmas is over.

Maybe we should take down our Christmas tree today.
1:22 pm on December 30th, 2013
We usually wait until Epiphany.
1:25 pm on December 30th, 2013
Masqueers, That is a nice photo. Thanks
My folks once had neighbors that would put their tree up on Christmas Eve and not take it down until Easter.
Macy, Thinking of you and hoping a solution can be found to help grandma and your family. It is sad that there is not more help for the elderly in our society
1:27 pm on December 30th, 2013
HOH & Diane: Do youse take the tree down ON the 6th? We had always heard it was bad luck to wait until after this day.
But what would a Kat with 9 Lives know about bad luck? Heh.
1:33 pm on December 30th, 2013
Just a real quick check in to say that Melanie is done with her procedure, is doing well and will be in the recovery room soon for a 4 hour stay.
Will let you know as the day progresses
1:40 pm on December 30th, 2013
T&G Thank Dog. We are glad Melanie is doing well and that you are keeping us posted.
1:47 pm on December 30th, 2013
T&G Thank y’all for the news. Masquers, we actually do it on the 6th. Maybe that is our problem?
2:02 pm on December 30th, 2013
Siber-H: Nana’s Family put up the tree on Christmas Eve, but always took it down by January 6th. A Memory comes to mind of seeing a sad looking tree in a window many moons after Christmas. There is something just Not Right about this.
Royals: Thank you for the update on Melanie. So Happy to Hear She is Doing Well.
Teddy RR: We Loved having you as FOTM. This one’s for you:

Latest update – Melanie is doing very well in recovery and expects to be sprung around 4 ish. That would let her be home home home by about 7 tonight. Weather here is perfect for the drive back.
2:32 pm on December 30th, 2013
Goldens may be beautiful, but look at our goofy newfie!

2:34 pm on December 30th, 2013
Thanks for letting us know about Melanie’s progress. Is she coming home with Martha after they release her? Did they get all the snow that was expected?
Barb has memories of one year when she was about 13 or 14 and she was babysitting for one of her regular customers who had 3 kids. She charged 35 cents per hour back in the old days. It was the first or second week in Feb. The mom asked Barb if she would feed the 3 kids dinner then take down their Christmas tree and then clean up all the mess. Of course Barb did it and didn’t even have the sense to say she should be paid more. Could you imagine kids today doing that!
3:01 pm on December 30th, 2013
Barb: I got 50 center per hour for babysitting–for years!
Re: my Christmas tree. It will still be up for the Plunderer visit. I have permanent trees in my house because I like the idea of bringing the outdoors inside. This year I decorated using my snowman collection on the mantel and my snowman ornaments on the tree nearby. I figure it is good until spring.
3:04 pm on December 30th, 2013
Staff, look it came and it is beautiful!

4:03 pm on December 30th, 2013
Masquers–Bad luck to take any of the decs down before 12th night/Orthodox Xmas/Epiphany, so I don’t.
Everyone–It’s always so nice to read your comments, although I must admit I often don’t know what you’re talking about…I gather many if not most of you live in cooler areas also (and are some of you competing in the Iditarod?)

Rio in Alaska

4:07 pm on December 30th, 2013
C.Hobbit, We agree. Santa are for Christmas, snowmen can be all winter.
Love the potholder colors. They coordinate nicely with the background. Is that wallpaper?
4:11 pm on December 30th, 2013
3 Papers in the kitchen. That is the main wall paper, and the pot holder IS perfect 🙂
4:26 pm on December 30th, 2013
Lots of pugs and a corgi! In Alaska! Who’da thunk it?
We got one more Christmas card today.
The ‘rents were shopping, and mom came home with sock liners, another pair of heavy sox, glove liners, and North Face mittens. She is happy. Pop now needs to order those same mittens, because they were out of his size.
Tonight, they are going out for a scrumptious Christmas dinner with Mom’s brother and s-i-l.
T&g, thanks for the update on Melanie.
4:40 pm on December 30th, 2013
It is a relief to hear than Melanie is doing well.
4:44 pm on December 30th, 2013
Diane, we help a sled dog team…Snowhook Kennel. We enjoy being part of this and are glad you are now talking with us.
4:50 pm on December 30th, 2013
Tupper&Gilly: Great News about Melanie!
Diane C: Don’t feel bad not knowing what some of us are talking about. The Plunderers have their very Own Lexicon.
About the tree…We took ours down before the first of January last year and Look What Happened!
AJ: That’s one way Rio will get to Alaska. And one of the Corgis too!
C.Hobbit: Love the idea of Trees in the House all year around.
5:09 pm on December 30th, 2013
2012 AND 2013 HAVE BEEN CACA HERE. WE PRAY/PREY FOR A BETTER 2014
5:30 pm on December 30th, 2013
ummmmm…has anyone seen Gilly? Last we saw her, she was strapping on some snowboots, but we have no idea why – there is no snow here. hmmmmmm
Just heard from Melanie herself. She was in the car, on the way home. She is in the company of Martha, who is driving, and a number of assorted giraffes who are dancing. She says thank you very much for holding her hand across the miles today, and she will check in after she sleeps off all the stuff they gave her for her procedure.
5:33 pm on December 30th, 2013
Good to hear!
Oh no they are taking our iPaw away! ttyl
5:34 pm on December 30th, 2013
Diane C. – dont’ feel left out. MAny of us have joined the blog long after it really got rolling. It takes a while to get up to speed, but never worry about jumping into the conversation, or asking questions about what the heck we are talking about.
We often do quick introductions when we get a newbie, so let us start by saying that Tupper and Gilly are a pair of Welsh Corgis, most often referred to as the Royals. (pip pip, and all that, with the Queen’s Corgis, you know) Their housemates include Basil and Sage, also known as The Wrotten Kats. The Corgis and the Kats spend all their time trying to figure out how to entice the others into packing boxes, and getting their paws on packing tape and mailing labels to Botswana.
5:36 pm on December 30th, 2013
Diane C. If you don’t understand what we are saying just ask us to explain.
Not me, I do not live in a cooler climate. I live in the great Southwest.
It is AJ and Snowbella (Rebecca) that are Iditarod mushers. Their Alaskan Huskies also post on this blog. It is so cool because we have real Iditarod dogs posting here.
AJ… I bet none of those pugs in that photo are related to Rio.
6:06 pm on December 30th, 2013
Diane, we live in northern Illinois and have been posting since Feb or March 2010. Barb is retired from insurance and financial planning and loves to garden (especially heirloom tomatoes). Maggie spent her first 3 years on a little farmette and she grew up with chickens and goats before moving back to the suburban life. She is the best damn ratter ever and an accomplished counter cruiser, as well as Barb’s better half.
Oh BTW, T & G and Melanie live in MA as does OFA (our favorite author).
Diane, you need to get an avatar and also give us a brief bio on yourself.
T & G, Thanks for the continuing new coverage on Miss M.
6:15 pm on December 30th, 2013
Oh, and the reason we are talking so much about cold weather clothing is that in Feb. several of the Plunderers (our group) are going to travel to Alaska to watch the beginning of the Iditarod and lend moral support to AJ and Rebecca of Snowhook.
A few of us have met in person, but this will be the first time most of those attending will met. Barb was supposed to go too, but she has whimped out and is looking into a spring trip out east by Amtrak to meet and greet a few members.
6:32 pm on December 30th, 2013
AJ!…snort!
7:03 pm on December 30th, 2013
Rio: The Giant had a far bit of trouble getting us into the pug costumes. They don’t leave much room for our tails. It took some negotiating, bargaining and promises we don’t intend to keep. We only said we would get in the pug costumes if the Giant dressed as the corgi.
Diane: Welcome! We are the resident Thieves of Snowhook. We love anything that can be picked from a pocket. We’ve been described as lovable and miscreants, and just last night, Rio honored us as ‘smart asses’ though we have no idea why. We are from the Outlaw litter and our Lady (SnowBella) says we live up to the name. Any dog from The kennel will have the same avatar because our Lady refuses to let us each get our own Secret Decoder Device (SDD—email) addresses. AJ, our musher, is also referred to as the Giant.
7:25 pm on December 30th, 2013
Diane, I will be playing the part of Princess when the book THAT gets made into a movie. Right now my hair keeps getting cut short by my groomer at Jacqueline’s dog salon. Sheered like a sheep. Fortunately Siber-H recommended to me to get hair extensions when my audition comes up.
7:33 pm on December 30th, 2013
It is starting to snow. Dusting tonight and possible 6″ or more late tomorrow for New Year’s Eve.
Tonight Caesar salad and Crab cakes. Yum. Oh, Diane, Barb is a foodie and loves to cook, and unfortunately she likes to eat, too. That is why she is fluffy and plans to make a resolution tomorrow night re: dieting.
Major Crimes on tonight, one of our favorites.
7:46 pm on December 30th, 2013
HOH: Your darling Darah is most definitely a water dog!
Rose: Have you and the Prof returned home? What are the temps like in Westchester? Just saw they are predicting a snowstorm for the big game.
Diane: This Kat is also known as WeatherKat & plays a mean jazz sax.
7:54 pm on December 30th, 2013
Can’t you just picture poor Diane C sitting at home, shaking her head and wondering just what the heck she has gotten herself into?
Fear not Diane – we’re all just one big, happy, spread-out and attached family. Weird, ok, sure. But we have lots of fun, and we have one of the most supportive networks found on earth.
7:59 pm on December 30th, 2013
Ok, Diane, We’re near the Chattanooga Choo choo. Trqck 29…. Seriously, just ask if we be too silly.
8:14 pm on December 30th, 2013
Diane: The Plunderers found us at the Kennel a few years ago and life has never been the same. You couldn’t find a better group of friends than those found on this here blog. We learned early on to keep your paws and tails inside the ride at all times whenever the Plunderers are invoked. They are a force with which to be reckoned?
B: Is our last sentence correct?
Diane: Poor grammar is sometimes tolerated, but talk of baseball can land you in the big house of Stoverinia, living on nothing more than an abundant supply of pie.
8:16 pm on December 30th, 2013
Diane: We will tell you what was told to us when we first joined this here blog—bring your imagination.
8:21 pm on December 30th, 2013
Foto!…My friend says she is going to print the photo AJ posted today because she has never ever seen so many pugs in the snow at one time willingly….grunt!…When it snows here Beau and I piss on the patio. This makes her very very mad…heh!heh!
8:24 pm on December 30th, 2013
Wow–so many questions answered almost without my asking! (I was wondering about the “Thieves” business).
Melanie–I’m so happy to hear you’ve done well and are having a quick turnaround; I’ll keep you in thoughts and prayers.
HOH, BSD, T & G and T’s Mom–Thanks for the warm welcome and encouragement while I’m still trying to find my way around.
Siber H–So, desert huskies? Are you in AZ or NM?
B&M–I had the sense Illinois was represented during the Sunday football discussions, but I couldn’t quite tell whom or how many…
P and L–As I say, I had been wondering; “thieves” sounds so serious and hard-core…
Princess Sam I’m sure you’ll look wonderful glammed up when the film is made, but a puppy clip always looks youthful (Edgar is an older man of 11, but his short look makes him look half his age)
Barb–I’m a veg foodie, if that makes sense–more into the eating than the prep part, like the two canine members of my family, Edgar and Miss Pretty.
8:29 pm on December 30th, 2013
Ooooo – Diane – can you post pictures of Edgar and Miss Pretty? Tell us more about them, please. (We need to know our guests when we hold one of our internet parties. Want to make sure that we have the right food for all the dogs and cats that blur in from around the country. Slim jims and hot wings are always in demand, as are salmon balls, for those of feline persuasion)
8:31 pm on December 30th, 2013
P and L–“A force with which to be reckoned” I thought only I said stuff like that. And “Stoverinia”? Is that near Atascadero?
SnowBella–I begin to see your point, but I’ll probably have questions tomorrow.
Actually–why is Rio “evil”? why is there an umlaut over the “o” in his name?
wishing you all a pleasant evening and Melanie a speedy recovery.
8:36 pm on December 30th, 2013
T’s Mom–I’m not good at pictures, but I think there was one in Friends of Chet earlier. Let me see if i can find it…Online parties with online food? This could work for humans, too…

There we go…
8:37 pm on December 30th, 2013
Pretty’s on the left, Edgar on the right.
8:40 pm on December 30th, 2013
SiberH!…Look! A newbie can post a photo no problem…snort!…You have been here 4+ years and still cannot post photos. Unbelievable…chorkel!
8:40 pm on December 30th, 2013
Pancho and Lefty: Your sentence is grammatically correct. However, “…a force to be reckoned with” is an idiom (accepted practice).
8:41 pm on December 30th, 2013
Why is Rio evil? OMD, where does one even begin? And how does one explain Stoverinia? And why are there so many squiggly red lines under words we write on this here blog? And why do we keep hearing strange and weird?
8:42 pm on December 30th, 2013
Have we been described as something other than serious and hardcore? We have no idea.
The easier question to answer might be how isn’t Rio evil?
8:43 pm on December 30th, 2013
Thieves!…Idioms!…snort!
8:46 pm on December 30th, 2013
Masquers, Grizz and I have returned to our humble abode. Weather for the next several days will be COLD, and a snowfall/storm is possible. SNOW- Whoooooohoooooo!
Diane: I am Rose, the small and meek. Many people on the blog call me Wose. My husband , sometimes known as the Prof, but more times than not as Grizz, and I live in Westchester County, NY. I think I have been on this here blog about 2 years. Rebecca (Snowbella) is sometimes referred to as the Pixie. Her dog, Belle Starr is my VBFF, and Belle Starr’s four legged mama is Luna. Luna happens to be my mama too…..she has adopted me as one of her own.
You are in the company of some nice people on this blog. We support our favorite Iditarod team, Snowhook.
RIO! I will post some pictures of the little cabin in the woods tomorrow .
8:50 pm on December 30th, 2013
Rose!…What I really want is Keys to The Little Cabin In The Woods…sniff!…Can you do that?….hmmmm?
8:52 pm on December 30th, 2013
Oh, and Diane, Grizz and I went to the 2013 Iditarod , met the Pixie and her very handsome husband AJ, and met all the Snowhook dogs. It was the best 25th wedding anniversary a girl could receive.
And even though Pancho and Lefty were unsuccessful at stealing our gloves, they are great dogs, and very handsome.
8:54 pm on December 30th, 2013
RIO! The keys are on the table in the little cabin. However, the little cabin door is always left unlocked. How soon can you get over here? It is only an hour drive from our house…..
9:00 pm on December 30th, 2013
Wose: Did you ever decide which of us is better looking?
Diane: For the record, not getting caught—one of our core values—is very serious business. We have a back up plan if we do get caught mid misdeed which includes denying everything, acting innocent and blaming someone else. At some point it also includes calling Ruff Rider’s paw and the Giant. The former can hitch up his legal briefs and the latter because the only person we have ever seen him back down to is our Lady.
B: Idioms! We get it—rules apply except when they don’t. That is a philosophy we can support.
9:03 pm on December 30th, 2013
We of the HOH think that not getting caught is alway good. That is why mom is sponsoring Pancho this year 🙂
9:04 pm on December 30th, 2013
Idioms!…I think Idioms is a perfect nickname for the Thieves, which is also a nickname by the way..snort!…Nicknames for nicknames!…wheeze!….I love it!
9:19 pm on December 30th, 2013
DianeC. I am in NM…a desert Huskey.
The Howlers, my fellow Sibers,… all 3 of them, are in PA.
We are all sled dogs without a sled, but living the good life.
When you add the Snowhook Iditarod dogs, Alaskan Huskies, us sled dogs outnumber all the other dog and kat tribes on the blog.
Thanks for the picture of Pretty and Edgar.
9:27 pm on December 30th, 2013
Pancho and Lefty, You know I hate making decisions.
9:27 pm on December 30th, 2013
Wose–It’s good to meet you–still trying to sort out Snowbella, Luna, Pixie et al. the Iditarod sounds like a great 25th
P&L–I only meant you seemed quite charming and fun-loving which traits I don’t usually associate with the serious and hard-core end of things. No offense meant.
Rio–“Idioms” as a nickname…oh, I get it…
9:28 pm on December 30th, 2013
But it looks like Edgar and that stupid Loulou bring our Maltese count to three.
9:32 pm on December 30th, 2013
Drat, mom is making us go nighty night.
9:33 pm on December 30th, 2013
Diane – Miss Pretty is, and Edgar is adorable too.
By the way, pay no attention to those dam Corgis. They aren’t REALLY Royal – they just act that way.
9:41 pm on December 30th, 2013
Artistic!…Is it just me or does the photo that Spencer posted this morning look like a painting?….snort!…It has a very artistic quality about it and someone here says she loves it…sniff!
9:45 pm on December 30th, 2013
Diane C: Confused here…You say Edgar is the Maltese on the right? Or, do you mean YOUR right in the photo? Miss Pretty is wearing white, right?
It may be Time to Call it a Day.
9:49 pm on December 30th, 2013
Rio: What Photo?
9:55 pm on December 30th, 2013
Bear!…sniff!…Are you okay pal?…grunt!…The photo at the top of the page of this here blog…wheeze!…What the hell?
9:56 pm on December 30th, 2013
ok My non-artistic eye sees what Rio sees. The lighting in that picture is amazing.
9:57 pm on December 30th, 2013
WhoooHooo!
I’m going to the Iditarod!
Tickets have been purchased and I managed to get on the same plane as my sister Staff! And I even get to sit next to her and Mr Staff. on the plane. What luck!
Iditarod Checkpoints – updates on donations will be given tomorrow night. Matching funds are available with no limits for all donations to Iditarod Checkpoints made in 2013!
9:59 pm on December 30th, 2013
Never mind, Rio, I figured it out and Yes, you are right. It does have a certain Mystery about it.
Damages is on the Viewing Schedule tonight. We shall see you in the a.m.
10:00 pm on December 30th, 2013
Dawson! What Fantastic News!!!
10:01 pm on December 30th, 2013
Dawson!…DAWSON!!…Wow!Wow!Wow!…snort!…I’m twirling and spinning for you…WOW!WOW!WOW!…wheeze!
10:01 pm on December 30th, 2013
Diane: No offense taken. Charm and fun loving supports us in our not getting caught endeavors.
With all this excitement in meeting Diane, we failed to mention that our Lady felt fine last night and woke up this morning very sick. She headed straight to the store to get Airborne lest a certain pug get upset. As she plowed through the day all she could think of crawling into her warm, soft bed. But what is this?—she just arrived home and nary a Giant is to be found. What is worse is he locked the door and she doesn’t have the house keys. She is sitting in the warm car until the Giant gets home.
10:03 pm on December 30th, 2013
Dawson!…MATCHING DONATIONS!…snort!…Everyone has all of tonight and tomorrow before midnight to get those checkpoint funds started….ZOW!Wow!ZOW!
10:05 pm on December 30th, 2013
Nooooooo!….Rebecca! Why oh why oh why oh why oh why?…sniff!…That is all I have to say on that matter…grump!
10:08 pm on December 30th, 2013
Dawson: Yeep! Twirl! SPLORT! I will show you the ropes of being retired at Snowhook. I will even share my straw with you and will snag you your own frozen fish when no one is looking. Dawson coming to see me, me, me! Does it get any better than this? You tell me.
Diane: I am a retired lead dog at the Kennel. Now that I’m retired, I serve as a Walmart greeter to the kennel, and allow the Giant to sit on my love seat. I like to keep busy. I’ve always had a special place in my sled dog heart for Dawson.
10:12 pm on December 30th, 2013
Annabelle!….Can you open the front door so Rebecca can get in the house and feed all youse guys who are camping out inside again tonight?…snort!…Please say YES.
10:15 pm on December 30th, 2013
Rio: If it was up to her, my lady would not be sick. She is also getting her wisdom teeth out on Thursday. She was schedule to have them out some time ago, but I may or may not have needed to be rushed to the vet that morning. I forget. After the vet brings out the thermometer, it always becomes a blur.
Diane: I am my Lady’s (Rebecca, SnowBella, the Pixie) first sled dog. We learned about mushing together. Those early days involved her running along side the team so I would face the right direction. She ran a lot of miles. In retired now because I have a very rare disease. I help out with greeting duties, too. I also make a great pillow if you ever have the need to lay your head.
10:19 pm on December 30th, 2013
Rio: We’ve been cheering our lady on as she’s tried to force the door open like they do in the movies. She has come close believe it or not. It is a homemade door so it’s thick, not close to square and would probably take another shove or two to open.

Mr.Tenzing!…I know she does not want to be sick. I am also very glad she is finally biting the bullet (yeeep!) and getting those dawg-derned wisdom teeth pulled out…grunt!…It will not be fun or pretty, but in the end the very very end when they have finally healed she will feel so much better…snort!…In the meantime she needs to be very careful of dry pockets…gasp!…She does not want to get dry pockets in her wisdom holes at all cost…sniffle!
10:23 pm on December 30th, 2013
Crap!…Where oh where is that Giant?…sniff!…Why oh why does he have all the keys…grunt!
10:24 pm on December 30th, 2013
Wose: My decision to adopt was the best decision I ever made. I will tell you the same thing my Lady and I tell to all the pups: you are loved. Never forget it.
Diane: I the the matriarch and mascot of the kennel. I am the Giant’s best girl. He raise me as a therapy dog when he worked with youth at risk. I was a natural. My career as a sled dog never took off on account of I don’t like my fur to muss. Make no mistake, I’ve trained my fair share of pups on the line including the outlaws. I have a firm paw, but I do it with love. Belle Starr is my dog.

Temperature!…It is a balmy 5 degrees in Willow right now…grump!…I hope Rebecca is staying in the warm car while she waits for the Giant With All The Keys to show up…gurgle!
10:26 pm on December 30th, 2013
Rio: My mama had the good sense to cancel her trip to the tip top of Alaska for later this week to get her wisdom teeth pulled. She heads north next week.
10:29 pm on December 30th, 2013
Five degrees is warm especially when sitting in a heated car.
10:30 pm on December 30th, 2013
Luna!…Too bad she did not have better sense and cancel it till the end of next week when she might be feeling a bit better…grump!
10:32 pm on December 30th, 2013
Gas!….How full is the gas tank Luna? I suspect you were the one who filled it up last…grunt!
10:33 pm on December 30th, 2013
Rio: Your preaching to the choir. Two-legged’s—-you can only do so much with them. Sometimes you have to let them make their own decisions even if it makes you shake your head. On the bright side, she will probably only have a pawfull of trips north between now and the race.
10:35 pm on December 30th, 2013
Luna!…((((sigh))))…sniff!
10:38 pm on December 30th, 2013
Company!…I hope she is feeling tip-top when all the visiting Plunderers show up…snort!…This is a really big deal for all of them. And all of us who are staying home in our warm soft chairs to watch every thing online…wheeze!
10:38 pm on December 30th, 2013
My mama filled up the gas tank before she came home tonight.
Today, the Smooching of Melanie did not go as planned. Someone may or may not have fainted. None of us Smoochers, mind, but the doctor. Belle Starr took it upon herself to bedazzled the good doctor’s stethoscope. I gave the doc a shot of dancing giraffe medicine and then we headed out to the bedazzled ambulance to keep a low profile until the procedure was complete. Tenzing is serving as Melanie’s pillow and I’m taking the first shift to watch over her tonight.
10:40 pm on December 30th, 2013
Rebecca: I always have a hidden key. It doesn’t work to well to be hidden in the winter as there is a trail of footprints in the snow to the hidden spot. Snort!
Diane C: I am one of the few posters who have no imagination and post as myself. I even used my real name until Rio gave me another to use. I live in Alaska and in 2012 was the blog’s reporter at the start of the Iditarod and in 2013 was at the finish line in Nome. I have gotten as far as being stuck in Snowhook’s mile-long driveway but have yet to actually visit the kennel. It is at my house that some of the Plunderers will be staying when they venture north.
I am down to one dog, Sadie Bear, but am thinking of expanding the family in the spring.
At one time the Plunderers were going to produce a biographical history and a dictionary of our special terms and post it under our yahoo account but that is still in the talking stage. It sure would be handy for newbies.
To be continued….
10:41 pm on December 30th, 2013
Rio: She is viewing the Plunderer’s visit as a treat to herself for all of her work. She says she can sleep in April. Nothing is going to hold her back from the a plunderers.
10:43 pm on December 30th, 2013
CHobbit!….You have always been C.Hobbit, we just didn’t know it till we saw you with the Giants…heh!heh!
10:44 pm on December 30th, 2013
Good night all. Hope Melanie is all snuggled in for the night. And welcome, Diane. We are a great group once you figure out what we are talking about!
Dawson, we are sooo happy for you to be going to the Iditarod. What a great time is in store for you.
10:45 pm on December 30th, 2013
CHobbit is tiny, but is a sled dog at heart. She, like all the plunderers, is very special to the kennel.
CHobbit: Next spring, can ride side saddle on the four wheeler up the muddy driveway.
10:47 pm on December 30th, 2013
CHobbit!…side-saddle!…snort!
10:49 pm on December 30th, 2013
Or she could ride hood ornament style. Our lady does both just to mix it up from time to time.
10:55 pm on December 30th, 2013
Giant!!…Where oh where is that Giant? He and the A-Team are not on an over-night training run, are they?…gasp!…No, he would not do that without Rebecca knowing about it…wheeze!
Whiz!…I wonder if all those guys in the warm house have to take a pee?…sniff!….Just thinking about being locked in the house makes me want to pee…grunt!
11:03 pm on December 30th, 2013
Rebecca!…How do you feel about driving 60+ miles back to Anchorage and staying at the Hobbit Hotel tonight?…wheeze!sniff!
11:15 pm on December 30th, 2013
Silence!…I am really hoping silence on Rebecca’s part means the Giant came home….Whew!…Although, I am totally guessing, but I am feeling confidant she is in the big house now…snort!…Paws crossed.
11:25 pm on December 30th, 2013
The giant is home. Our lady is in bed. Nighty noodles.
11:30 pm on December 30th, 2013
Home!…OH praise God. Now me and my friend can go upstairs to our warm soft beds….chuffle!…Only my bed has all my baseball toys in all their right places…heh!heh!….Sleep well Rebecca and feel better my dear…snuffle!whew!

Dawson, Dawson, Dawson, if it hadn’t been for the dratted mole we wouldn’t have your GREAT news until tomorrow (Darah woke mom up). We are so excited that you will be plundering on with the rest of the ijita, er, Plunderers going to Alaska. Whoo hooo

Pardon my french. Preparing for the new year here. Dad is off to sit with Granny. Mom spent the day with HER mom waiting at the Dr. Waiting at CVS. Waiting and waiting at the post office. Waiting at the second pharmacy, and to wrap it up, waiting at the bank. Taking Grandmother somewhere is never one somewhere.

Oh my Dog I have been tardy lately. I have been working working working on my quilting classes. Today I did a test class with two 12 year old geniuses. It was fun and the 2 hour class took almost 4 hours but we did have a couple of unauthorized breaks.
So then I had to come home and have a nap and then I had to revise the class notes because it took WAY longer than I thought.
Finally finished that up and emailed it off and then finally I got to read yesterday and today’s blog
Whew.
HOH your Daddy Dawg must have the biggest hands. I thought that was a good sized potholder but it looks like a tiny thing in those hands. (Those were Daddy Dawg’s hands weren’t they?) If not I am embarrassed. I tried to use fabrics that would go with the pic you sent of the other potholder.
Diane, We came to Chet’s either late in 2009 or early in 2010. I am from North Dakota temporarily in MInnesota and I am big sister to the Awesome Dawson. I am owned by two kats. Alice M. Johnson and AbbietheKitty. Abbie likes to eat and Alice flies the Lear Jet from place to place when we have parties. She picks up those who can’t find another way to travel to the partee. Alice is a blonde and likes to party.
And on my computer right now. In Teddy Ruff Rider’s place is a HORSE! A whole day early. sniff. I disapprove.
1:44 am on December 31st, 2013
and now, Goodnight all. Melanie I am glad you are home and hope all went and goes well.
Hugs to you.

Mom thought she had lost her mind (what little she has left) when she saw a horse. TY for reassuring her mind and vision are not completely gone.

Dawson–Travel safely and keep warm. Huskies seem to be extremely well represented here.
P and L–I’m checking back to see if your lady made it into the house. She needs to lie down a lot and take fluids in plenty today. (Once she’s inside.)
BSD,B&S, Princess–Edgar is a Lhasa Apso who wears his hair short because he’s a macho 11-year-old. Miss Pretty is the terrier cross with the lovely smile.
