Friend of the Month Reminder
“Last day of January,” Spence says. “Meaning last chance to be February’s Friend of the Month. All you have to do is send in a photo to the Friends gallery. The random number generator does the rest.”
“That’s it down below,” says Admin.
“In fact a diagram, right?” Spence says. “Because the actual device – East German army surplus, circa 1956 – doesn’t look exactly like that.”
“Due to the fact they ran out of molybdenum,” says Admin. “And had to subsitute something else.”
“Which was?”
“Cardboard.”
“Um. In any case, the winner gets displayed in the place of honor on the right where Macbeth is now, and the winner’s human companion gets a signed and paw-printed copy of A Fistful of Collars.”
“Next year at this time it’ll be The Sound and the Furry.”
“Um. Correct.”
“Just sayin’.”

Molybdenum from the Greek molubdaina meaning lead.
According to the Weather Channel, it is “blustery” here today. I concur.
Good morning all.
9:50 am on January 31st, 2013
Natasha, the Last Great Race is coming soon! Are you ready? And by ready, I am referring to footwear. Last year, as I recall, you ran the entire race in high heels and suffered dearly for it.
Of course, you could wear plain black booties like all the other doggies…..

Rain all night. Rivers are high. It’s snowing . . WHAT? Yup, snowing.
If this works it will be a short video of the river right out back.

Cool.
So I am getting punctured before all this setting free stuff comes. I’m going to tell him to use the “getting energy from the universe” point.
10:28 am on January 31st, 2013
Guten Morgan.
B: You answered my first question…what is molybdenum. Admin is so cryptic sometimes.
Congratulations! Wose you did it…you won one of the coveted prizes. WoooHooo!!!
Wolfie: Black booties? for the Fabulous Borzoi? I shudder to think what her reaction will be.
Melanie: Going to watch the video.
10:41 am on January 31st, 2013
Wonderful Rose: I’m going to send you a card that has the picture I was describing in the poem for “Winter Scenes” prize two.
11:08 am on January 31st, 2013
I’m back in Illinois. Luna has decided that at least two of the team will be staying with Barb until she leaves for rehab. Sometimes the second and third day are the most uncomfortable. We will do what we can to lift her spirits.
11:28 am on January 31st, 2013
Wow that river looks angry. Hope it stays inside its banks.
11:30 am on January 31st, 2013
Masquers, do you need any supplies sent to you for your time with Barb. You might get sick of jello and yogurt. I can get some Salmon Bon-bons direct to the room almost immediately.
11:31 am on January 31st, 2013
Good morning all
I will stop by and visit Barb on my way home.
Congratulations Rose…the two-legged that appreciates snow.
11:32 am on January 31st, 2013
And fish sticks. I know you can have Barb put fishsticks on her menu for lunch and supper. Just sayin’
11:37 am on January 31st, 2013
I will eat the Salmon bon-bons and fish sticks if Barb doesn’t want them. Someone else can eat the blasted jello.
11:45 am on January 31st, 2013
Alice: The salmon bon-bons would be most appreciated!
Abbie: Fish sticks are an excellent suggestion. I will let Barb know to order for her next meal.
Siber: Take it easy on the snacks…especially those bon-bons…you don’t want to be too weighed down on the trip back.
Could you also drop in on Maggie? She would be glad to see a friendly Plunderer face.
11:52 am on January 31st, 2013
Good Idea, Masquers. I would love to see Maggie.
I plan on burning off all the calories from snacks on the way home.
12:04 pm on January 31st, 2013
Could someone please post what still needs funding. Molly’s Mom has been rather MIA lately and she handles this kind of stuff for both of us.
12:15 pm on January 31st, 2013
Update!….The campaign for Feed The Giant needs only $354.00 to be fully funded….snort!snort!
12:23 pm on January 31st, 2013
And Loiusa Mae needs only $195 to be fully sponsored!
Need to watch Melanie’s video. Mom called and told us that she was risking life and limb on her drive into work this morning. There was water and debris everywhere.
12:30 pm on January 31st, 2013
Wow! Melanie, if you raft on down that river, you could be at T&G’s in seconds!
12:46 pm on January 31st, 2013
Rio: Two more Prizes available for the Feed The Giant fund. Who will be the next big winners? Will it be me? Time will tell.
Melanie: We can’t see the video. Is it on YouTube?
O’Howlers: Yikes! Stay Safe.
12:50 pm on January 31st, 2013
I am very honored to win the beautiful prize crafted by Rio’s friend and Stover.
12:55 pm on January 31st, 2013
Another historical fact from the science dog.
Molybdenum was mined in Colorado in a big way, back in the day, especially near Leadville. (Beautiful area to visit, BTW). Fortunes were made from it. Mom has visited there several times, and believe it or not this info came from her head, not Wiki! There are some other facts lurking in there, but she can’t quite shake them loose. Molly B Damned was a name the miners used for it.
1:08 pm on January 31st, 2013
Staff: If you get a chance, could you please send another email message to Kelly to see how both Barb and Maggie are? I would but I don’t have the address.
1:19 pm on January 31st, 2013
Congratulations, Rose.
You also won a prize from the Sponsor-Louisa contest: a genuine pawtograph and head bump from the Winsome One in the flesh! Yours, when you arrive at Snowhook in March!

Abbie: Talk about Bouncing Off Walls!
2:12 pm on January 31st, 2013
Abbie, had to put that one on Facebookie. Spent a long time at the acupuncturist. Promised that I would not do anything else today.
I’m not. Though lunch would be nice. Hmm . . Hey, BearSpiritDog, you want to join me in a gluten free grinder?
2:15 pm on January 31st, 2013
Melanie: Say no more…I’m there!
2:28 pm on January 31st, 2013
Melanie – ok, that Kat is pretty Kool. But can he hang upside down from the ceiling?
Hmm??
2:33 pm on January 31st, 2013
Thank you Abbie and Staff.
2:52 pm on January 31st, 2013
Looks like Basi has been hanging around with the PugSu.
3:04 pm on January 31st, 2013
Staff received this email from Kelly.
Hi, my husband took the iPad to work yesterday, so I couldn’t bring it to the hospital. Barb is doing great, working with the physical therapist and trying to get some rest. Her biggest complaint is that the hospital staff are checking on her every 15 minutes around the clock, so she is not getting any sleep. She should be transferred to the physical therapy rehab tomorrow. Maggie is missing her mom, but doing good. Thanks for checking on her, Kelly
3:06 pm on January 31st, 2013
Hey there Melanie,
I had a lovely tuna fish salad sandwich, applesauce and 3 olives. (Can’t go over my salt limit)
And lovely warm water to wash it down.
3:10 pm on January 31st, 2013
Dr. Sam: Luna says you and Kat are next on the night shift. See if you can divert the hospital staff so Barb can get some sleep.
(whispering) she couldn’t be referring to the Smoochers…could she?
3:13 pm on January 31st, 2013
It is sort of cold here today. Right now the temp is 1 degree but it is breezy and the wind chill is minus 19. I looked at the NOAA.gov site and throughout all this cold weather not once did they use adverbs like ‘frigid’. In fact they didn’t even describe the cold at all. They just stated the temps and let it go at that. Tonight’s low is expected to be minus 11.
3:14 pm on January 31st, 2013
Oh, and the wind chill is predicted to be as low at minus 26. Yawn. Maybe time for a nap in my nice warm bed.
3:22 pm on January 31st, 2013
Here taking a nap after a enjoying a delicious Lunch with Melanie and the River Bears.
Quite a change in temperature from the Pacific NW. And Wow…Look at that River!
I told them we’d try to send some of our warm weather their way.
Staff: Hopefully it will also pass over Minnesota on the way east.
3:25 pm on January 31st, 2013
I had a bit of a huffle and gruffle with the nurses because they won’t let Barb get some sleep. She just starts to doze off and the door opens to poke, prod and check on Barb. The nursing staff said they need to make sure she is okay. That’s well and good, but what are we Smoochers? Pug burps? As far as Barb, she looks good. She has the same number of legs she started with before the surgery. She must not have upgraded for the four-legged package.
Oh! Fish sticks just arrived!
3:33 pm on January 31st, 2013
I’m happy to take the night shift. Barb will be cuddled like crazy. I’ll be on her pillow or right below it. Cuddle, cuddle.
3:53 pm on January 31st, 2013
Princess Sam: Do you need someone else to tag team Smooching duties with you?
Once you arrive, we think we will check on Zoe and then Melanie before heading home unless Wose needs us.
4:39 pm on January 31st, 2013
Luna: Kat said she will be available to join Dr. Sam.
4:42 pm on January 31st, 2013
Rose: If you need the Smoochers tonight or tomorrow morning please send me a SDD message.
5:14 pm on January 31st, 2013
Princess Sam? Is Mollypop’s Mom feeling okay?
5:28 pm on January 31st, 2013
What a nice nap. Hope you enjoyed yours Staff and BearSpiritDog.
Hmmm. I do remember a tail of a certain Kat hanging upside down from the ceiling.
5:39 pm on January 31st, 2013
Macy – ve are VERY impressed you know vhat molybdenum vas. Is maybe you have makings of being good spy type of doggie.
Tell Natasha – how do you feel about high heels?
5:57 pm on January 31st, 2013
Siber-H – I’ve been feeling better than ever except for an occasional glutening. I still have so much to learn about where that stuff hides. Food planning and prep is time-consuming. I prefer grab-and-go.
Skiing Safety Patrol has taken up lots of my time. Last night I had a training class to stay current with National Ski Patrol’s requirements. The victim’s head gets stabilized, then he gets strapped in on a back board. Bleeding stopped first if necessary. I go through this training every year and hopefully will never have to use it for real.
I did manage to read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. Both were good books.
I’ve been reading the blog, but usually much later or the next day.
6:03 pm on January 31st, 2013
Mollyopop’s Mom, Glad you are okay and having fun skiing. Mom says she is going to read Gone Girl.
6:34 pm on January 31st, 2013
MollyPop’s Mom: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!
Gone Girl is in our reading queue also. Good to hear it is a good book. Thank Dog you knew not to say good “read”.
B’s aversion to its use as a noun has our nerves on edge every time the offensive word appears in a book review.
It seems to be Everywhere!
6:36 pm on January 31st, 2013
The 3 Pugitos up at the Top!
6:39 pm on January 31st, 2013
OHs: Only 27 more days until that pawtograph and head bump from Little Miss Winsome.
Siber-H, aren’t we lucky to win such beautiful work by Rio’s friend and B? I am so honored and excited.
Masquers, please take good care of Barb, look in on Maggie, and make sure Zoe and Melanie are well. Lightning bolts are next scheduled for February 22.
6:44 pm on January 31st, 2013
Bear, I will give a second thumbs up on Gone Girl.
6:51 pm on January 31st, 2013
Wose: Did you say it is just two days until you are here, here, here? Woohoo!
7:19 pm on January 31st, 2013
Kat and Sam: Do you need blurring to Barb’s hospital room?
7:41 pm on January 31st, 2013
Grumpy!…My friend came home from the damned-busy-place very grumpy tonight…sniff!…She even made us go for a walk and we freezed our kibbles off…grunt!…Now she isn’t eating any supper because her stomach is all tied in knots…wuffle!…I bet she will eat later, and then I will get to eat with her too…heh!
7:47 pm on January 31st, 2013
Belle Starr: Well, not exactly 2 days…..But why don’t you blur over here and stay with me and the Prof? You can supervise my packing to make sure I have enough sparkly things when I come to live with you, you, you!
7:52 pm on January 31st, 2013
Is it more or less than two days, then? I asked my Four-legged and she said we can blur over once Kat and Sam are here.
7:57 pm on January 31st, 2013
Luna, I need transportation, please.
7:58 pm on January 31st, 2013
Belle Starr, it is a bit more than 2 days. The key will be under the mat.
8:02 pm on January 31st, 2013
Stellar!…And Red Letter!…snort!…We’ve had a great day of donations for Feed The Giant from many different pocketbooks…snort!snort!…Very close again to giving the Third Prize away, so do not stop!…Wooooo!….Now my friend will finally have to finish number 3 and 4 for good…heh!heh!
8:07 pm on January 31st, 2013
Sam and Kat: I will blur by shortly and pick up each of you. Once Belle Starr learned we were blurring to Wose’s tonight, she’s been impossible to control. I love her anyway.
8:15 pm on January 31st, 2013
Belle Starr, remember your four-leggeds rules…. Bring lots of snacks, no wiggling, and go to the bathroom.
8:17 pm on January 31st, 2013
Rio! Can I just say I am very proud of you and your friend for all your efforts in raising funds for Snowhook? Youse guys rock!
8:17 pm on January 31st, 2013
Generosity!….My pug heart beats fast when I think how many very generous plunderers there are on this here blog…wheeze!wuffle!…Thanks to all of you you have donated to any of the Snowhook fundraising funds…Clap!Clap!Clap!…snort!…Youse guys make me wheeze and sneeze!
8:18 pm on January 31st, 2013

8:20 pm on January 31st, 2013
Rio! Wheeze! Heh!
8:21 pm on January 31st, 2013
Wose must be channeling her pug side to be posting the same time as Rio.
I agree with both of you. I am in awe and so grateful for the fund raising master minds on this here blog, and those who have generously supported Snowhook. Whether it was $5 or $50 or more, each contribution is meaningful. I hope we continue to do you proud.
8:40 pm on January 31st, 2013
Channeling!….heh!…If Rose is channeling her pug-side just think how happy the Prof must be tonight….chuffle!
8:47 pm on January 31st, 2013
Oh oh oh! Is it my shift? Momma said all I have to do is look pretty, but seems my nursing abilities are needed…
8:54 pm on January 31st, 2013
Kat: You’ll do fine, and remember the fire extinguisher is not needed. I’ve been watching Barb’s hair all day and it hasn’t so much as sparked. I will pack the fire extinguisher away until lightening bolt day.
8:55 pm on January 31st, 2013
I have done everything I know to do. Must sleep now…
9:03 pm on January 31st, 2013
Kat!…Are you sure that’s not a photo from last nights big party at Primo’s…heh!heh!
9:07 pm on January 31st, 2013
Nope. That is me, demolishing yet another yogurt container,
9:13 pm on January 31st, 2013
Hmmm!….Looks like a big ole empty cup of Primo’s special brew to me…snort!…That stuff really packs a punch! I was out before the party ever really began. How did I get home anyways?…sniff!
9:16 pm on January 31st, 2013
Goodnight, All.
9:16 pm on January 31st, 2013
Rio: Savanah picked you up and took you home before your friend even woke up this morning.
9:17 pm on January 31st, 2013
Rio – heh heh heh
9:26 pm on January 31st, 2013
Kat, you will do fine when we take care of Barb tonight. Just don’t walk on her like you did with Molly’s Mom. Just cuddle like I do.
10:04 pm on January 31st, 2013
Natasha!…Why oh why are you laughing your evil Natasha laugh?…sniff!sniff!
10:05 pm on January 31st, 2013

10:07 pm on January 31st, 2013
Eyebrows!…Natasha, are you the one who drew Junior-like eyebrows on me while I was resting last night…grunt!
10:08 pm on January 31st, 2013
I have been looking at the Yukon Quest map. Starting this year in Whitehorse in the Yukon and ending in Fairbanks. Now it seems to me looking at the map that they might go fairly close to North Pole AK where our friend CHarris Hobbit lives.
Do they come close to you CHobbit? I would love to know.
10:10 pm on January 31st, 2013
I am trying to imagine a Pug with Junior-like eyebrows.
10:13 pm on January 31st, 2013
Staff!…You just reminded me of all those videos of the Yukon Quest I need to try and watch…sniff!…Those were posted yesterday, right?…grunt!

Interest!…Can anyone in their right mind explain what the show Person of Interest is about to me?…gruffle!
10:17 pm on January 31st, 2013
I see I missed a big party last night. I’ll have to catch up on that tomorrow.
I know it’s late, but Gracie said she needed to take care of a few things outside. Tomorrow is her freedom day, and I, for one, look forward to not going out in windchill factors in the negatives while wearing a robe and slippers. The cane is a good touch. It’s my ice cane. It isn’t made of ice though.
Say Goodnight, Gracie.
Woof woof!
10:47 pm on January 31st, 2013
Sob!…Kevin Spacey is going to be on David Letterman and there is no way I will be able to stay up and watch it…sniff!…What I wouldn’t give for a DVR…wheeze!..But how do you set them up?…gah!
10:51 pm on January 31st, 2013
We haven’t heard how Cousin Bob is doing. Maybe no news is good news.
Eyeliner! Rio, Natasha maybe responsible for the eyebrows, but we were the ones who drew the eyeliner on you to match SiberH. It’s the risk you take when you’re the first to fall asleep at a party.
Melanie: The Newf Pack had a great time and behaved themselves by our standards.
10:58 pm on January 31st, 2013
Geeze!…Person of Interest is weird, wierd, wierd…sniff!….Although, I would like to see the episode that Clarkson was on…grunt!…Then after that I would never watch the show again.
11:27 pm on January 31st, 2013
Yo – Pug. Ya you with the eyeliner! Spacey is on Letterman TOMORROW night. Do you think you will be allowed to stayu up late on a Friday night? Or are you going to be busy painting your toenails?
giggle
11:30 pm on January 31st, 2013
B&S: Have you been dipping into the kat nip leftover from Primo’s?
11:32 pm on January 31st, 2013

12:20 am on February 1st, 2013
Person of Interest definitely has to be followed to be understood. To explained would involve more info than anyone wants.
Thank you, Nattie for your appreciation of our knowledge. The Unsinkable Molly Brown was from Leadville and she and her husband made some of their fortune in molybdenum. Mom really loves Leadville.
12:44 am on February 1st, 2013
Staff: yes the Yukon Quest trail is practically in my neighborhood.
