Friend of the Month Heads Up!

“Thirty days hath September,” says Spence.

“Was the language better when hath was around?” Admin says. “Thee, thy, doth, all that?”

“Better? I don’t know. It’s a living thing, always changing.”

“So if a language doesn’t change it’s dead? Like Latin?”

“Nihil nisi bonum,” Spence says. “And now it’s time to remind everyone that today’s the last day of eligibility for October’s Friend of the Month contest. All you have to do is upload a photo to the Friends of Chet gallery. The random # generator does the rest! If you’re already in the gallery you’re eligible till the end of time.”

“Which will also be the end of space, if the cosmologists are right.”

“Prize is a signed – and paw-printed – copy of A Fistful of Collars (on the NYT bestseller list today – thanks everybody!) and the winning Friend of the Month is displayed for the entire month in the special place over on the right where Brad is now. Easy, fun, and we’ll throw in a Chevy Corvair.*”

*100% true except for the Corvair part.

Condolences to Terry.

Welcome Macbeth, Sparky & Clover.

    Happy Egg Day, Everybody!
Mom says THANKS for the birthday card from Rio, and all the Happy Birthday wishes from all of you. The rents had Part II of the Double Date last evening, for the anniversary part, and took the iPaw with them. That is why we couldn’t post all evening (and most of the afternoon).
G&BB, with your scary news of your dad, we missed that it was also your mom’s birthday. We say she deserves a do-over when this scare is behind her.
Wolfie, glad to hear your grandma is responsive now.
There is so much sad news on this here blog of late, please forgive us if we forget to mention it all, and know that we are praying for all.

And a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Nana!

    Good Morning All!

Bear, that is a beautiful picture! Happiest of birthdays to Nana!

Belle Starr, I guess I am ear marked, too. I get blamed for everything.

G&BB, Please know that strong prayers go out to your dad from here in Westchester. Stay extra close to your mom.

Terry, my deepest condolences to you and your family.

Kat! Is Rio as pug-a-licious in person as he is in his pictures? You lucky girl, you got to meet Beau too! Did you get proofed at the Taproom?

OHs, Meashka and Sasha lookin good out there with your pop!

Wolfie, strong prayers and love go out to you, mom, and grandma . XOXO

B, the Corvair was manufactured by Chevrolet between 1960 and 1969. It was the first car to feature a rear mounted air-cooled engine.

    Good morning all.
OK Howlers – we’ll bite – what is Egg Day?

Wolfie – your Mom is one of those truly indomitable souls. Now we know where she gets it from. We hope your Grandmother continues to gain strength, and that your Mom has the strength to deal with all she has on her plate.

BSD – your picture is lovely. The moon here last night was truly inspirational – there was just enough patchy cloud cover in the sky that the moon was ducking in and out of the mists, turning the dark sky into a deep Van Gogh blue with the brilliance of the reflected light. Did we think to take a picture? Well, not with the camera, but that play of color and dark will be in our memories for a long time.

Isn’t egg day the day that the Howlers get an egg on their kibble?

Never owned a Corvair, but remember them well.

Going to run out and pick up a bookcase at a resale shop. It is for the den, and will house all the kid’s books and toys that are here. Barb thinks that if things are kept up off the floor the “possession” issue will not come into play.

We are reading AFOC slowly and think it is the best so far.

  25. OleyHowlers
    12:00 pm on September 30th, 2012

T&G, Egg Day is another name for Sunday, because that is when we each get an egg on top of our kibble. Later, we get bacon.

The Forever Autumn song is lovely.

Mom says her cousin and a corvair convertible, and it was very popular in her very large extended family.

Rose: thanks for the autumn video; the images are beautiful. We are having an early fall this year. Our colors usually peak the second or third week of October, but they are already vivid at the end of September.
The corvair was a fun car to drive. When my dad started to teach he was in a tiny town and knew an older lady who drove a corvair locally to work and back every day, but she was afraid to drive out of town so he chauffeured her on weekends, and they really put the miles on the car.
Here’s a picture of the colors that we took when we were on litter patrol at the reservoir yesterday.

Beautiful pictures on the blog today.

We were just remarking that the fall colors seem to be appearing early in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin this year. Usually around Oct 10th would be peak color.

Yesterday Barb found her missing cord for downloading pictures from her camera to the computer. Now we just need the new batteries. Barb still does not have a IPhone to take and email pictures. Does everyone else have those? We are usually a little slow to take on new technology.

    Speaking of fall color…
Mr.Staff sent me this photo of our back yard taken yesterday. He said the trees waited to turn until I left.
It is very hard to get red/orange color in your trees in North Dakota. Most native trees are yellow or brown in the fall. The trees that have the colors are not usually hardy enough. These two were planted about 20 years ago. They are Amur Maples and can be grown as small trees or shrubs. They are about 20 feet high and that is about as high as they get.
They have had a hard life. Although Mr.Staff has not done any unauthorized trimming they had a bad October with heavy snow that broke off many of the branches. That was about 5 years ago.

    Yea! Party next week!

Bee – we think Nattie is a bad influence on you.

Siber – do we surmise that if the hot car in question is indeed said Porsche 911, there might be less resistance to the idea of matrimonial bliss?

Howlers – we are so happy to hear that you are having a good weekend. What a lovely way to celebrate.
Speaking of which, we forgot to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY NANA!!!

Boone, you are right, Ralph Nader’s book was Unsafe at Any Speed, about the Corvair.

I slept with Molly’s Mom for the last 3 nights. That means 3 great breakfasts of soft boiled egg. She left for a Safety Patrol meeting tonight. Snow? Skiing? Way too soon or me.

Darkside! Dare I risk losing my other earring to a certain pug’s slurpy kisses. Why not? If B can live on the edge so can I.

Lights!…Out!…grunt!…We’ve been without electrical power since we left on our walk….sniff!…Came home and we all sat around and watched it get dark. At least the moon was big and bright…sniff!…Those two lit some candles and fiddled around. Beau and I were on Red Alert patroling the house and the yard…heh!….Nothing gets by us.

Bella – we think Luna and Tenz snoring is probably preferable to the sounds of two farting, burping Pugalitos who could be sitting on that there couch with you.
