Happy 4th, everyone!! It’s a really happy day for us. Dad went for his follow up MRI on Tuesday and got a great report. Still no sign of returning cancer!! Dr told him that this is a true success case. We have been blessed for sure. Thanks to all friends here who have continued to have him in their thoughts and prayers. The next follow up will be the 1 year anniversary of his surgery.

Oleys, The mean lady who glared at us was not the mother of the soccer kid. He is behind us, she is in the house to the west side. She just doesn’t like dogs and dogs barking. Consequently, we do not like her. On the east side we have Fred and his nice family. We are going to have another little play time today.

Macy: Mom keeps that cartoon on her desk. At one time the HOH was 6 (mom’s number) and 1/2 had boomer-fobia! Mom needed a bigger lap. CHobbit: Can’t wait till you go to KY soooo we can see you. Rio: Mom’s mom was born in KY. Does that explain mom? Gus & BB: Whoo hoo, yeah, grrrrr-eat news! We know ya’ll are twirling.
In other morning news…Mom came home to wet green weeds growing like, well, weeds, but the tri-color butterfly bush (“red”, white and “blue) began blooming for the 4th! The summer phlox and double Rose of Sharon are adding more pink to the “garden”.
Soapbox out and dusted: Mom lost 20 lbs when she was in hospital in May (and it wasn’t all her spleen)! Gooood and bad. Needed to lose weight, wedding ring got loose 🙁 It fell off the night before she left for MI, just outside on the deck. Couldn’t find it. When she got home, found it in darling Darah’s pile…er decorations, about 3/4 of it. For years mom hated the “dog ate my…” excuse. Now she has it, in gold!

My DN Kat – Wow, you have grown up so fast.
Sammie will be here tomorrow and stay until Sunday. A bandstand is being built right outside and the groundhogs are not happy. That’s their favorite grazing ground. There will be very loud music so I hope they have their little ear plugs. Maybe some for Sammie too. Gretchen Wilson will be here and also the Creedence Clearwater Revisited (without the Fogarty’s).

B&S, T&G and Mama, Tanks for your concern. Flooding at our house would mean an ark! We are about 1/4 mile from Lake Chicamauga but there are cliffs there about 80 ft high. Flooding around here happens on the other side of town and the river.

Moose Drool comes from Missoula MT where the Catty Librarian lives with Elliot the massage kat.
I too find myself having to explain some things I say. Carpola is one. And I have trouble calling my sister her name. I want to call her Dawson when I am speaking about her to others. sigh.
Today we did lots of work. We are starting a little bonsai on the small tree at the North end of the garden. If it gets too big it will shade the plants, but we do like it small.
And we finally got the pump in the pond so it can clean up a little.
Mr.Staff is doing a bit of scraping off of the brick path so we can see it instead of the weeds.
I am washing the runners for the kitchen. I don’t understand how they can get so dirty! Then, I think, a nap.

Happy Independence Day!
It is good to be home. After AJ and I arrived home last night, chores were completed, bellies were given and then AJ and I did the only logical thing—target practice. He wanted me to practice shooting some more in preparation for when he leaves next. Nothing says love like ammunition and target practice.
Staff: I have used ‘carpola’ in front of mixed company before, too. I’ve also been known to make reference to Alice Johnson and others. I make no apologies when I see puzzled looks on peoples faces—the Herbs taught me that.
BSD: Shopping spree! Each of the items you purchased with or without Nana knowing now have your name on them.

Barb actually does eat chicken, just not any chickens that we know on a first name basis.
The Moose Drool is going to be carted up to the lake house at 4:00 and sampled there. Kelly’s clan asked Barb up for dinner. Baby back ribs, potatoes and onions on the grill, corn on the cob and salad. Barb will be back before dark because she is afraid of the fireworks, so she wants to snuggle with me. If it gets loud before she gets here, she can find me in her tub.

Taking it easy although I think I will do some more packing today. Now that I’m fully retired and the intense month of painting and yard work is done, my life seems very quiet. My friends are either out-of-town or out-of-state on vacation or they have family plans today. That is A-ok with me.
Sadie and I took a long hike today since the temperatures have dropped nicely. Found a lake that I didn’t know about; Lady would have loved it but, of course, Sadie barely put her toes in the water to take a drink.I will grill a couple of hamburgers for us later for supper.
Sometime next week I will head to Anchorage for a couple of days to see my sister. The vet gave me some pills to try with Sadie for the trip.

Stuffed. We are just stuffed full of good food. The Storyteller went to the store today and came home with a sack full of lobsters. And he even offered to share them with Mama and Gramp. (If you knew how many lobsters he can put away in one sitting….) Anyway, there was enough lobster that we got a taste. Just wait til they try to give us canned cat food tomorrow. No way Jose. They better go get some more lobster.

Quiet!….It is a quiet day here now that everyone left and we are all back to normal…heh!heh!… We had a scare there when the big grill would not light even after the new tank of propane was hooked up…grunt!…But all at once it started and her brother grilled steaks for everyone. Public fireworks by the borough are held at New Year’s Eve when it is dark so that they could be seen. Of course, you have to be prepared for -30 or -50 temps at that time of the year.

Happy BDay Kat! Mine and Holly’s b-day’s are tomorrow and dad found some Frosty Paws at the store yesterday, so we will be celebrating with those.
There is a big fireworks display here tonight, but it is just far enough away that it doesn’t bother us. The two leggeds, for some reason, are going right over there where all the noise is, but we will not be joining them.

I’ve come inside early in anticipation of fireworks. I was supervising the Giant earlier on a trip into town, but the truck breaking down changed our plans. Sometimes, without even trying it turns out the Giant and I have the same plans. I’ll be going along with my day, and boom!—we have plans. I like it when that happens. Now, I’m overseeing my Lady doing laundry. She seems to have it so well in paw that I think I’ll take a nap.

Thanks, guys, for all the well wishes. It has been the best holiday. We are blessed. Although Mom was always sure (well, not too many periods of doubt), Dad was a fatalist (think that is the correct use of that word) and couldn’t help but think the news would be bad. Now, even he is believing that all will be okay.
And they are still hoping to celebrate with a trip to Willow, Alaska the 1st weekend of March 2014. Just think….they will meet the Giants and the Snowhook kennel guys, CHobbit, and maybe Rose and the Prof! And there were rumors of MPMom and the Howlers ‘rents going too! Mom just has to get it cleared at work since she usually can’t take the first of the month off.

Rio: Personally, my favorite line is the last sentence. I’ve been known to adopt if for personal use before, and I insisted it be used in the note. I think it rounds of the note well.

Concert!…If a house concert is anything like Brother Redbones impromptu white lightning jazz and jive sessions, then I know exactly what a house concert is…heh!… But that photo is lacking the ambiance of a Redbone Hound White Lightning concert…heh!heh!

Photo!…For instance, there are not hot-wing bones lyin’ around, no empty beer bowls, or pizza boxes….sniff!…The floor is not littered with hairballs from the Maskers Jazz Kat Jamboree band…sniff!…And there is not one mayonnaise bottle of Shine anywhere to be seen….grunt!

Sleep…sniff!…We here are going up to our beds and we will try and sleep…grump!…It really isn’t too bad yet, but all that nonsense comes later in the wee hours of the morning…grumble!…If I could, I would be chewing many pant-legs to the bone at that time…grump!

Belle just got home. She went to the KABOOM place and came back alive to tell about it. She sat in dad’s lap to keep him calm and reports that all went well.
