Format Confusion
There was a bit of format confusion at last night’s Zoom event. I’m sorry for any frustration that happened. For those of you who had things you wanted to ask, please ask them in today’s comments and I’ll answer them tomorrow.
And thanks everybody for making Of Mutts And Men a USA Today bestseller.

SQ/PA. Thanks for the kind offer; we did miss the chance to see things live last night. And since I had been tasked by The Thieves and Rio to try to set things right, let me lead off with my question which is:
When you wrote the first Chet & Bernie mystery, did you have any sense of where it would lead and what are your feelings about that, now that you are ten books and several short stories into the series?

It will be fun reading the questions today and the answers tomorrow.
Good morning all.

Greetings!
Too bad about last night’s Zoom event, but it was glitter galore here!
An excellent question from W’s & T’s Paw! Yes, it will be fun to here questions and answers!
Make it a good day!

Too bad about the confusion last night but I am thrilled to have attended a couple of OFA’s tour events. Very entertaining!
Spence: Thanks for doing the virtual tour. I liked the tour date where she let the readers/fans ask the question and gave those who wanted time to introduce their pets.
One interesting fact about Spence is that he rides his bike all winter long (not including -30 degree weather).
Enjoy the day.

OFA—
Do you outline?
Do you know how a book will end when you begin it?
Is it easier to write in Chet’s voice than a character like LeAnne?
Thanks and please keep writing!

Spence is a real bike warrior! Good for him!

Thank you for getting the ball rolling with question, W&Ts Paw. And, thanks to OFA for recognizing the disappointment of the Plunderers and being willing to answer questions.
Before asking questions, we here at Snowhook want to thank you for your talent, your creativity, support and creating a second home for us with the Plunderers. Those two words—-thank you—-will never be enough.
I would like to know the following:
– You seem to write Chet with ease, yet what do you find challenging when writing Chet’s narration, unreliable or otherwise?
– It’s hard to imagine Bernie being anything but a partner in the Little Detective Agency. Given that he’s the smartest guy in the room, what career do you think we would have found Bernie if he wasn’t a private investigator? Is it safe to assume that accounting or public speaking is off the table?
– Chet and Bernie have left the valley for some cases. What other locations might we find them in the future?
The Thieves would like to ask if they can secure you as an alibi for past and future misdeeds? Heh.

We here love the C&B books! I am so very glad that I happened to stumble upon “Dog On It” all those years ago during a trip to our local Barnes and Noble. Grizz has actually used an excerpt from “Dog On It” in his class to teach critical thinking.
Bluecat: Excellent questions!
Belle and the Thieves! Brilliant questions!
I am wondering if Suzie and Bernie will reunite in a future book.
I also wonder if Spence writes in longhand or on the computer.

Longhand!…yeeep!…Let’s hope not. His writing is, well uh…different…sneeze!
Questions!….Oh good! Here goes!…wheeze!..Of the following which is most likely to happen?
* Would you ever consider owning a Pug?
* Can you ever picture Chet teaming up with a Pug?
* If an old retired Pug showed up on your doorstep wearing a baseball cap would you take him in?

We are most curious about the answer to Rio’s last question. We wonder if OFAs response would vary based on the type of hat worn by said retired pug.
Rio: Are you opposed wearing any of the following: fishing hat, derby, nacho helmet or a 10 gallon hat?

RIO! You are making me laugh! Whenever I see this commercial, I think of you…

If a scene is tragic, does it stay with you after you write?
Do you dream about your characters in the process of writing them?
Do you have readers that read your writing as part of the process?
Is editing painful?
The C&B books seem to make 100% of the readers satisfied but the cover art has been subject to lots of critical comments. Does this exasperate you? Have your other books gotten similar passionate reviews of the covers? What input or final approval do you have of the artist and the artwork?
Is writing genetic? Is it a talent recognized early in life?
Note: I haven’t read the current book but will there be more info and engagement with Chet’s “son” in the future?
Sadie is a fan of Chet and wonders what kind of chow he gets and if steak bites and Slim Jims are a part of everyday/every meal. She also feels that out of concern for the aquifer, baths should be optional and is pretty sure that Chet doesn’t get baths. Is that correct? A lot is riding on your answer.

Spencer!…I hope his typing ability is up to the task of answering all these burning questions!…snuffle!…Or at least mine anyways…snort!

I was recently introduced to your Chet/Bernie books. I read the 1st and 5th books. Your plots and characters are interesting. As a teacher, I want to find interesting books to suggest to the older teens and young adults. I have decided against suggesting them and will look for other mysteries for myself. That is due to the continuous use of exclamations/explicatives that are profane, obscene, and those that are blasphemous ( God/Christ are swear words). I would think trash is not what we want to encourage in civil society.
Why can’t books be written without profanity?
