Football (More): From The Dog Who Knew Too Much

They were talking about sports? Sports: maybe the best idea humans ever came up with, in my opinion. Back when we were on the football case, I actually got into a real game! Bernie and I were right on the sideline, on account of we had to stay close to the blackmailer – it’s all coming back to me now, love when that happens – who turned out to be the assistant coach, yes, right on the sideline, close up to the action, when a punt happened, one of those punts down deep, whatever that means, but it’s the expression Bernie uses and he really knows football – played in high school, but dropped it when he went to West Point so he could concentrate on baseball – but forget that part, the point being that on the down deep punt the receiver stays away from the ball in the hope that it goes into the end zone, wherever that is, and meanwhile the other team tries to corral the ball, and footballs bounce in a crazy way, and when I see something crazy like that –

Good morning all! About 3 or 4 inches of snow last night.

    Go Chet! Get that football!

That would be a way to REALLY make football interesting to me!

Out I go to smoosh down snow with the Element.

    Hi there, Melanie!

I love when Chet tells football stories!

    No snow here in Westchester.

For dog’s sake Melanie, please be careful smooshing snow. With Barb, and Rebecca down for the count, I don’t want you being the third.

    Go Giants!!!

    Hi B!

A nice cup of hot chocolate with a smoosh (Melanie’s word) of whipped cream sounds good right about now…I hope you will be snuggled up in a nice warm blanket, with a good book!

    How are you enjoying retirement?

    9:35 am on January 20th, 2012

Hi Everybody! Masquers, I’m so glad to hear from you. I guess you still have pwer, and heat. That’s great!
Everything happens in 3s, and I’m sad to report that I am the 3rd injury. My lower back/hip is very painful and I don’t even know how this happened. I’ve always had issues that makes me unable to jump like cats are supposed to. I climb instead. But now i’m in pain just lying still. For no reason at all, I was hissing on Mommy’s lap last night! I’m mortified by that behavior. That is much more T.C.’s M.O. Mommy doesn’t know how to help meso she just carries me everywhere, which I must admit I could get used to.

Masquers, glad it’s above freezing, when I got on line early this morning they said you were having an ice storm.

    B.Stover, sounds lovely. sigh

Quick good morning as Barb is off at work. No snow when she drove in, but it is now coming down pretty fast. They are saying we will get 6-8″ before it is done. It is so cold that it will be a dry fluffy snow.

Drive safe everyone and stay warm!

Buddy. I don’t know much about cat physiology (being a dog myself, although I do try to stay in touch with my feline side), but I have had back/hip problems in the past. Glucosamine is one possibility, although I would think for a guy as small as you, the dose would be a lot less than for someone like me ( Igenerally get 3 pieces of Zuke’s hipaction a day). Also, if it persists, acupuncture is another possible treatment. Works wonders for me. Of course, you do have one advantage that I do not; my mom could not carry me even if she wanted to, as I weigh in around 90 pounds these days (that is actually lower than my top weight, but I have lost some weight this past year as a result of my various treatments). In any event, hope you feel better soon. Your pal Wookie

Dawson: Brrr doesn’t even begin to say it!!!
Sam: Hoping your Aunt Molly’s Mom gets a lot of that snow we just sent eastward.
At the Royal Mum’s request, we sent some her way for tomorrow.

  24. B.Stover
    11:21 am on January 20th, 2012

Masquers: Right now it’s sunny but we’re supposed to be getting one to three inches of snow this afternoon and tonight. It’s up from 4 degrees F to 16. I’m going to go make sure my car starts.

    Hope Buddy feels better soon.

  25. Rose
    11:21 am on January 20th, 2012

Masquers, my friend, I am always amazed at how humans can be so cruel to each other and especially to children and animals. There is no place in the world for those people. I hope Cupid finds loving humans in a nice forever home. BTW: I would like a bit of snow myself.

Dawson: I bet when you’re snug in that purple quilt, it’s quite hard to get out of bed in sub-zero temps. BRRRRRR for sure!

Dawson: I always find All Quiet very powerful. It shows both the mental and physical effects of war on the human being. I especially find Paul’s visit home very interesting. He no longer fits in there. He represents the “lost generation”–lost in many ways. My students always liked that novel. It’s too bad its message didn’t sink in…since World War II began just ten years after it was published. Perhaps because Remarque was German as is Paul? To me Paul represents “Everyman.”

(I was kidding about the homework also.)

  40. Melanie
    2:08 pm on January 20th, 2012

Back from the v*e*t’s. Now listening to Etta James. So sorry she’s left us. February is when we become part of the Ultimate Experience!

About Mattie: Unlike our other Newfs, Mattie’s jowls don’t act the same way with her drool. Instead of just drooling, they channel the drool down into her chest. We’ve tried everything to help her out, but nothing worked. (BTW, some breeders say that this is ‘type’ of Newf is a non-drooler. No such thing! We did not breed Mattie and her brother was not like this and none of her children are like this. Weird)

So our new vet (used to work with our old vet, but is 1 hour closer) found some stuff that works. Douxo (Cholorhexidine shampoo hypoallergenic) and a spray Douxo (Chlorhexidine Micro-emulsion spray)

We will start by bathing her with the shampoo 3 times for two weeks and then when the patchy skin begins to heal stop that and go to the spray. Paws and claws crossed.

Also took her blood for thyroid testing.

Siber-H, I don’t think you should root for the Patriots!

    New regimen …

Barb is fuming at the office. There is a major snow storm going on outside and she told her CL boss she wants to go home early. CL isn’t sure, as the office would be “unmanned” for 1 1/2 hours this afternoon! Snow is coming down 1-2″ per hour. Does she think someone is going to call to look at property in this?

  42. Tupper and Gilly
    2:26 pm on January 20th, 2012

Barb – do not fume. To fume is bad.

Call the boss, and say, “I am going home now. The roads are bad and I do not feel safe waiting any longer. If you do not wish the office to be closed for an hour and a half, please feel free to use my desk.”

Then pick up your hat and coat, and walk away. No apologies, no looking back. Think Bette Davis, Lauren Bacall, some of the great grande dames of the cinema. Channel them, and try to even put a little sashe in your walk as you go.

What’s she gonna do – fire you?

  43. Riö – The Evil Pug

Those of you that want to subscribe to one or more parts of the Insider should think about doing it before, say, the last two weeks in Feb. because it is best to do it before the Iditarod people get really busy.

Notice she did not say she was worried about my safety. NO, she could give a rat’s a** about my safety. She probably thought about it and wondered if I could sue her for saying I had to stay. She always thinks us city folk will sue!

Rio, I know your friend was mad last night, but did you ever say why? Did I miss that part?

The Friday Song is a UTube sensation. It was filmed sort of semi-professionallly, at home, paid for by the girl’s parents. She is just a high school kid but that song has made her famous. I actually think it is cute, considering.

  60. Barb & Maggie
    5:07 pm on January 20th, 2012

Chet is talking about the fact that the Friday Song is filmed mostly in a convertible.

Barb made it home from work, but visability was really poor, snow was deep, and it was hard to see the road. She could have never done it after dark. I don’t know why she worries about that duffus squaking at her!

Chickens are fed and watered, 3 bird feeders are filled, now just have to take tea and crumpets to the goaties and we are done for the evening.

B: Thank you for the You-Tube link. We agree with Barb…it is cute, being made by a high schooler and all. However, I don’t know how many times it can be listened to before one starts to lose it. Aawwk! What am I saying. Now the dang thing is running through my head like a broken record. We would much rather listen to Etta James.

Melanie, Is it a murder of crows? I have learned so much since coming on this blog.

Tv weather report gave snow fall of neighboring town at 8″. It is slowing down now, may be 1″ more. Tomorrow is supposed to be quiet, but possible ice storm Sunday. That could be bad!

  68. BearSpiritDog
    7:27 pm on January 20th, 2012

That crow may be training for the Winter Olympics.
Barb&Magpie: I think a Murder of Crows is more than one. Take care and stay home tomorrow. Ice storms are not good.

Liz: We will have to agree with you about The Ides of March…a little too predictable…good acting though.
Just saw a Cricket at the top…wonder if she was your Cricket.

While watching Downton Abbey last night the film cut out and right in the middle of a tense scene. Hopefully we can continue on without any more interruptions.

SnowBella: Hope you are feeling better today. What did the x-ray show?

Melanie: I think Mac has the right idea. We are exhausted also today. Must be the tension from the stormy weather these last few days. Will return tomorrow – Bear

Not a murder of crows. Just a crow with smarts!

We’re to get about 4 inches of snow.

Melanie: Yes! I get the weekend off and tonight is for gamboling. I have a pocketful of quarters and am waiting for my ride. Frustration Rummy is the game.

I would like to see a picture of Wookie in that tie.

May you all have a frustration free weekend.

It is made for tv movie airing on Lifetime. It is probably not award caliber, but has special interest here, because Drew Peterson was probably on the news every night for about 2 years. Months after 4th wife went missing, they exhumed the 3rd wife’s body and re-examined it. Then they arrested him for murder. Stacy, his pretty young, naive 4th wife has never been seen again. There is big speculation that he killed her too. He had # 5 on the hook for awhile but she broke the engagement. He is an arrogant cop who thinks he is God’s gift to women. Rob Lowe really has nailed the speech and personality of the creep.

Hey Rio – obviously you haven’t even been reading every other word. Just to jog your poor little puggy memory – we were here yesterday, Buddy was here today.

And don’t forget – your buddy Siber has admitted to being part Kat – what good taste he has!

Just got in from work and am taking a quick glance at today’s posts. The Friday song
caught my eye. Just want to let all of you know that it made it into the top 5 U tube
videos of the year. Top 5 worst videos that is. I couldn’t watch it all when I first learned about it. Someone else said something about having enough of teen age girls.
I feel the same way after spending half of my life in a classroom. Much of it with teen age girls.

Buddy: I hope you are feeling tip top very soon, but I do recommend indulging in being waited on tail and paw by your mom.

I spoke with the good folks at the emergency clinic. Bruised, tenderized, still and slow moving, but not broken! Good thing, too because I hate the brace for my hand. I told it good riddance yesterday and haven’t looked back since (well, maybe once or twice).

Rio: I too am glad it is the weekend. I hope your friend gets to enjoy herself this weekend.

Is there a party in the making for Stinky Mama’s last day at Crazy Lady Land?

BELLA!!! Good news! Thank the Great and Wonderout Kat that nothing was broken. We think you should curl up in a soft blankie with some catnip mousies nearby and just look beguiling. It always works for us when we are in need of extra care.
As a matter of fact, it sounds so good, we’re headed there now. Good night all!

Basil & Sage: You know how to work the system. I think I will curl up soon, but it’s nice to be out from that damn brace. I have worn my winter boots with fairly good tread all week so as not to have a repeat performance of My Fall From Grace.

Hello C.Harris, It has been so warm here in Minnesota we don’t know what to do when it gets cold. We haven’t been under zero yet this year and I am freezing! Then today we had about 2 or 3 inches of snow and staff says no one has figured out their winter driving protocol yet. Accidents today all over.

Hopefully they will get it all out of their system and drive more carefully from now on. Staff says it was crazy out there today.

Now she is coming to turn off the computer. goodnight all.
