Football (More)

Another big football weekend. Here’s a little more football from Heart of Barkness:

We walked onto the field, mostly dirt with tufts of grass here and there. Coach Flowers had moved out from between the two rows of players, now stood to the side. We stopped nearby. Coach Flowers put the whistle in his mouth, sort of nudging the stogie to one side, and talked around them.

“On the whistle, potato heads. Not before, not after. All set?”

He blew the whistle, a sound I hate, but at least I’d known it was coming. The two rows charged each other, thumping together with lots of grunts and shouts, none of the shouts actual words, more like the kind of noise you hear on Animal Planet. The kids finished knocking each other around, picked themselves up, dusted themselves off.

“What the heck?” said Coach Flowers. Or something like that – he wasn’t easy to understand with the whistle and stogie in his mouth. “Call that hitting? Don’t look like hitting to me. Looked like hugging your sister.”

One of the kids said, “I’m a sister, coach.”

Coach Flowers turned to her. “Did I ask for your opinion, Taneeka?”

“Not yet, coach.”

“Take a lap.”

    Good morning to everyone!
Chet sure missed an opportunity there, he should be great at laps.

The coach’s technique leaves something to be desired.

    Good day to all.

Snow has finally come to an end in this neck of the woods. Can’t wait until football comes to an end too. :^)

    Good afternoon to all!

Rose: We are lucky here in DC — about an inch of rather fine snow is all we got. Sounds like Rose has been hit with a lot more and Spence probably has gotten the storm full force.

On a brighter note, my Teddy Team Sled Dog shirt arrived today. Thanks to Mlaiuppa for letting us know about it.

WTAFP: Grizz went out to clean off his car and reports that we had maybe 6″ of snow. The snow was very fine and very light. It was very windy here, so it mostly got blown around into drifts.

Long Island and the Cape have gotten hit hard. Heard on the news that about 100 thousand people in Massachusetts are without power. I hope that Spence and his family aren’t part of that group.

    “Not yet, coach.”

I predict Taneeka is going to go far!

These two are not going to go far for sure. Mr. Big has the best bed, of course. Sadie is melting off the bed. Excuse the mess in the background.

WTAFP! My shirt came today too. Royal blue with the sled dog design! Happy the profits from these shirts go to a sled dog rescue.
Spence! Hope you have power and stay warm. Wose, glad you and WTAFP didn’t get hit with the 100 mile an hour winds and blizzard snows.
