Football: From Thereby Hangs A Tail
“Big football day,” says Spence. “Any predictions?”
“There’ll be lots of commercials,” Admin says. “Here’s a bit about football from Thereby Hangs A Tail.”
We’d done this kind of thing before, me and Bernie, sneaking up on a perp’s house in the night. Bernie always liked to do a little recon first, so I did, too. That meant crossing this crummy yard, all weeds and stone, getting out of the open real quick, then standing in the shadows at the back of the house, just listening.
Didn’t know what Bernie heard, but I heard TV voices, very faint, coming through the wall. I could even make out a few words, like “red zone blitz,” which meant football. We watched a lot of football at home. Bernie preferred college football to pro football, had once gotten into this big argument about it with a perp we had tied up in the back of a beer truck. Kind of strange, and maybe a story for some other time.
Welcome Russell.

Good morning, Chet and Welcome cutie Russell.
We are still listening to the Billie Holliday song. We really do love her voice, and so so Mom & Pop. We also liked the Nina Simone song that was posted last evening.
We are looking forward to both games today, although College Football is normally our thing. We want the Saints to win the first game, but haven’t decided if we want the Pats to thrash Tebow, or the other way around. Either way, the commercials should be interesting.

Good Morning O.Howlers & All!
We are up early for a change.
The start of a long weekend.
8:52 am on January 14th, 2012
Why is this a big football day? The Superbowl is at the end of the month, right? (And I’d still love to hear some of those “stories for another time” Chet.)
Good morning all.
9:43 am on January 14th, 2012
Football?
I work a long shift but I can’t get away from it there either as one of the inmates watches non-stop. Well, if I must participate: Go Saints! (for Louisiana); and Go Patriots! (for Dan).
Russell: Those eyes, those ears, that face! Irresistible.
10:17 am on January 14th, 2012
GOOD MORNING!!
An extra 8 inches of light fluffy snow. Been out for an hour doing my Element driveway smoothing move. The Subaru was iced shut and that’s the car that goes to the dump. All is now fine. Zoë’s at the dump. I’m finally eating breakfast.
The games will be on here. Don’t care which one wins except the Patriots. If they win the guys of the family will be in good moods.
I like Bella’s Rio-esque. Also let us not forget iPaw.
Oh, cool. The computer does not think that iPaw is spelled incorrectly!
B.Stover: I love when Chet says “a story for another time”. He never gets to it, so I can make all sort of pictures in my head!
Dawson: Russell is a good looking dog. I do wonder what the “paddle Paws the Wonder Dog” means. Maybe it’s a story for another time.
Morning OH and BSD!
10:23 am on January 14th, 2012
Another word for the Plunderers’ Dictionary: youse
Why is everyone except us getting snow?
10:24 am on January 14th, 2012
Good morning all. We are with Stover, for better or worse. Could give a hoot or a wolff about football, but hope you all enjoy the games.
Wookie posted last night about Blood Sweat and Tears. Barb loved them too, along with 3 Dog Night and The Guess Who. Think it was Guess Who and not The who that she liked.
Back to Billie Holiday and the God Bless song. We read that she got in a money fight with her mama, to whom she had been shelling out mucho bucks. She needed a loan and her mama said no. She shouted out “God bless the child that’s got his own” as she walked out the door. Then she wrote the song. Interesting trivia.
Big hello and hugs go out to Kirby today.

Melanie, We received some seed catelogs and looked thru for asparagus. Gurney is more expensive, but they have 50% off if you order by 2/8. Jung has good prices and both places offer 2 yr. old male roots. They recommend 25 plants for around 10 lbs of harvested spears.
10:42 am on January 14th, 2012
I was looking at Jung. I haven’t got a catalog for Gurney. I’ll try to find them on the internet.
Right now: 3 different types of strawberries across the front of the house where we usually plant annuals. Gets the most sun.
3 different types of raspberries on the top of a rock wall at the back of the play yard (the Pack can not reach it).
Two raised asparagus beds.
One (hopefully dwarf) Gala Apple Tree. Maybe a pear tree too.
I think we’re going to have take down one of our old apple trees. The beavers did too much damage to it and the limbs are falling off of it. sigh. That still gives us 4 Heritage Apple Trees. Have no idea what kind but they are over 100 years old.
The Guys want to use dynamite to get rid of old stumps. Especially the one near the septic system. shaking head here They have very strange senses of humor. Have no idea where they get that from!
10:47 am on January 14th, 2012
Barb&Magpie: Thinking Spring! We like B,S&T…also 3 Dog Night. Rio mentioned several more last night that were/are on our favorites list.
Rio: We have the same problem here. The record/cd/tape player combo has bit the dust so we are limited to listening online or to cds on the dvd player.
Melanie: You are sounding tip top today. Cheering for the Patriots for Dan. Dynamite? Sounds like one of our guys.
Dawson: We are very interested to see how long the international mail takes this time. International…sounds strange, being that we are neighbors.
10:54 am on January 14th, 2012
Twirling here- NO SNOW and to us that’s a GOOD thing. Melanie can keep it all up there in the hills.
Got to go out and run the dreaded errands today. Mama is happy about one – she is going to make arrangements for her new sofa to be delivered. They bought a sofa two years ago that is falling apart. They got their money back, and went shopping for a new one. She’s happy cuz this one is leather, so she says we can’t cover it all up with our shed hair.
Wanna bet?
11:01 am on January 14th, 2012
Hey! Hows come we can say male roots but we can’t talk about those things that go on your feet? That Mike Baker is weird!
Speaking of weird, Royal’s Mum said last night she liked Lady Gaga. At first we thought she was weird, too, expecially when she showed up in her meat dress at the awards ceremony. Well, Barb thought she was strange, I just wanted to eat the dress! For heaven’s sake, it was made of about 40 lbs of prime flank steak or london broil! Anyway, now we like her. She is intelligent, well spoken and stands up for her causes, unlike a few of those flakes in show biz. Also her music is very good!
11:05 am on January 14th, 2012
I called Kirby and everything is fine there. His Mom is working right now and hopefully will check in with us later.
11:09 am on January 14th, 2012
Tupper&Gilly: You can cover it with fur, but it’s easy to clean. I don’t care about that. It’s just not as plush and comfortable as the other sofa, if you ask me.
O.Howlers: No snow here either. I really do like romping in the white stuff, but others here are happiest when it isn’t in the forecast.
Barb&Magpie: We agree…M. Baker is weird…he frowns on gamboling and fears shows (that is one we never could figure out)
Thanks for the update on Kirby T, MollyPop’s Mom!
11:13 am on January 14th, 2012
Thanks Molypop’s Mom. It is good to know that everything is okay with Kirby. We have missed him.
The Denver Broncos are the underdogs by 13 1/2 points in tonight’s game. GASP!
I got an email from Amazon wanting to know if I wanted to pre-order the Robbie Forrester book. Yes! I’ll do that today.
11:26 am on January 14th, 2012
We were discussing the psychology of prohabition (the action not the era in American history) and here is a link to an interesting article from the NYTimes:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/14/opinion/a-new-anti-alcohol-campaign-in-new-york.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=thab1&pagewanted=print
11:38 am on January 14th, 2012
Yea for MollyPop’s Mom! Yea for Kirby T.! Can’t wait to hear from him.
B.Stover will read your link in a bit. I’m going on an errand soon and the rest of the day I’m working for YSAS.
Now, Please put YSAS, Hamlet and Ophelia in the center of The Plunderer’s Quilt. A project they are working on is getting some serious consideration. I can NOT, by mother’s oath tell you what it is, but they need all the prayers, good vibes and thoughts they can get!
11:39 am on January 14th, 2012
Would wonderfluffed be a word to add to our dictionary? I agree with Macy that “tail with it” is also a good one.
Thank you for calling Kirby T. Mollypop’s Mom.
Liz: I’m glad Cricket is doing well.
11:44 am on January 14th, 2012
Some of you have talked about listening to music. Check out the MP3 players at Amazon. They aren’t expensive, are very small, and you can download music to them and listen to it with earphones…the best way to listen to music I think (besides being there in person of course). You can also download books-on-tape. (Audible.com and Amazon seem to have some kind of partnership.)
11:59 am on January 14th, 2012
Melanie – I love this picture and have it as my wallpaper. I so enjoy looking at these guys every day. I’m posting it for good luck.

12:08 pm on January 14th, 2012
Greetings All!
MollyPop’s Mom: Thanks for making sure our friend Kirby is okay.
OHs: We DO NOT have snow here either! A few flurries yesterday, but that’s it. Grrrrr. It is however, very COLD.
Not that I’m a football fan, but I’m hoping that the Patriots get Tebowed by the Broncos, if only so people would stop making such a big deal about him praying before the game. * With apologies to all those on the blog who are Patriot fans. I don’t understand what all the commentary is about. If you look at all the things baseball players do at the plate and after home runs (Kissing their fingers and lifting them to the sky, making the sign of the cross, etc.) why can’t TT just be left alone? Tebow is doing in private what he has always done since he wasa kid. I’m getting off the soapbox now.
In my younger days, I enjoyed all the Motown stuff, the Beach Boys (especially the PET SOUNDS album), and the greatest band of all the Beatles. I loved Chicago and BST, and the rest of the top 40 greats of the 60s thru 80’s. I actually enjoy some of the music from the Seattle wave in the 90’s. Now I can appreciate just about any kind of music, with one or two exceptions.
Liz: I’m glad Cricket is getting back to tip-top shape.
Kirby: Can’t wait to hear what you’ve been up to!
12:22 pm on January 14th, 2012
Thanks MPM for checking on Kirby. Glad everyone is OK. Should we have a master emergency list set up for the future? Right now if something happened to Barb you would have her email and regular mailing, but not phone # for emergency. Barb would probably list one of her kids as a contact person. We would be happy to keep a list if anyone thinks it is a good idea. Maybe 2 people should have it, just in case. Also, if someone wants to permanently or temporarily drop off the blog, they should give us a heads-up so we don’t worry.
12:51 pm on January 14th, 2012
Barb: Don’t we already have an emergency tree? I think Rio and MPM have my brother’s phone number. I have the number of a friend of Bear and two for MPM and one for Melanie.
12:55 pm on January 14th, 2012
From Kirby T.’s mom: Hey, y’all! Sorry to get everyone worried about us. It all started with that trip to California — being gone for a week really put us behind on the blog. Then things got busy at work — at one point we had three (out of eight) employees on leave at the same time. We were all trying to cover hours without having to get a lot of subs — which were in high demand during the holidays — so my days were pretty exhausting and I had absolutely no chance to even think about looking at the blog there. Then I’d get home at night and just be too tired to turn on the computer for Kirby (or me). So we got even further behind. And the other problem is that Kirby’s girl is using the office (where the computer is) for her bedroom since she took her furniture off to college with her and it’s still in storage up there. So that makes it even harder to get computer time. So I just kept thinking there was just no way we’d be able to catch up on everything. But we both miss you, and we’ve decided just to jump back in with both feet — er, all six feet! So if we say something not realizing it’s been discussed before or things have changed, you’re all just going to have to forgive us. I’m on lunch break now, so I probably won’t be able to write again for awhile, but I’ll try to at least turn the computer on for Kirby when I get back home!
P.S. Thanks to MollyPop’s mom for giving us the excuse we needed to get back here!
1:11 pm on January 14th, 2012
KirbyT: My friend, it is glad to have you back and I am so glad it was a matter of being busy and nothing more that has kept you away.
Mollypop’s Mom: Thanks for making the call.
B&M: I think that is a good idea. The existing emergency probably does need to be updated.

Preperations, including training, are in full swing at Snowhook Kennel. Food and gear is being purchased, sorted and packaged. Last night, AJ labled all the drop bags for the race. Each checkpoint has 2-3 drop bags per musher. When he came to bed in the wee hours of the morning he was excited about a surprise for the Plunderers—he labled the Nome drop bag with a little extra something:
1:28 pm on January 14th, 2012
Love the photo you posted Mollypop’s Mom.
Melanie, the three of them will be front and center in our thoughts. Whatever it is, this is exciting and we are wishing them the best.
Welcome back Kirby! No, Don’t try to get caught up on the blog…just jump right in.
We are very happy to hear that Cricket is doing well.
1:30 pm on January 14th, 2012
-50 and I have just talked myself out of doing errands today. However, I signed up to do a volunteer shift from 3-6 so will need to leave the house at some point.

On the other side of the drop bag:

1:33 pm on January 14th, 2012
Hey Kirby T. !!!
1:33 pm on January 14th, 2012
Charris: We’re not that cold—more like -30—but, I just added another log to the fire for good measure.
Melanie: No need to ask twice.
1:33 pm on January 14th, 2012
Kirby T…. sometime I disappear for a while and have to jump back in without catching up. It is nice to know that even when someone is gone, s/he is carried in our thoughts.
1:34 pm on January 14th, 2012
We love it Rebecca! Tell AJ thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Hey Guys! We are going to Nome!
1:37 pm on January 14th, 2012
Snowhook Bella: the drop bags are super. Can they later be on the next auction?
1:43 pm on January 14th, 2012
Rebecca: How cool is that!?! If we can’t be there in person, we will run the iditarod with AJ! Thanks AJ!!!
SiberH: We finally get to meet in Nome! I’ll be wearing my Yankee cap!
1:46 pm on January 14th, 2012
Kirby: Nice to have you back!
Hey there, C Harris! Excellent idea about the drop bags!!
Welcome Russell, you handsome dog you!
1:47 pm on January 14th, 2012
Rebecca: That is so cool! Did you say the picture we send should be 4 by 10? I have to print one up.
1:52 pm on January 14th, 2012
B&M: Excellent idea!
Melanie: Good vibrations, prayers and fingers crossed here in Westchester!
1:52 pm on January 14th, 2012
Charris: I hadn’t thought about the auction, but we can try to do it if everyone likes the idea. The Nome drop bag won’t be as shiny and new by the time we’re done with it, but that just might add to its charm.
BStover: The print should be 4″x6″. If folks can’t decide between a couple of photos, I will try to fit both in but it will depend on bulk and weight, so please indicate which is the priority photo.
1:52 pm on January 14th, 2012
I also like C.Harris’ idea about the drop bags being in the next auction.
1:56 pm on January 14th, 2012
Rose, I had better be wearing my Rockie’s cap, but you can wear your Yankee’s cap. Actually, you had better wear more than just your Yankee’s cap on your head. It will be cold. We will still get along and be good friends even if we have different baseball caps on.
I thought Rebecca said 4×6 photographs?
2:20 pm on January 14th, 2012
We are so happy to hear from Kirby. Thanks, MollysMom, for contacting him. We think an emergency phone tree is a good idea because we really have no way to check up on someone should they disappear from the blog for awhile. It is difficult sometimes to keep up with the blog, with everything else going on in our lives, and we understand Kirby’s hesitation after being gone for awhile. Speaking for us, we miss a lot day to day, and forget even more!
Melanie, we will keep the 3 in our thoughts.
Rose, we also wonder why people frown upon Tebow’s praying. So many football players do…why is it different for him? Does he act pious or something? We have never watched him; only read the complaints. Perhaps those who complain just do not like him beating their team?
Rebecca and A.J, the drop bag is ultra sensational!!!! We will all be in Nome together. We are twirling; Buddy and T.C. Are spitting.
2:26 pm on January 14th, 2012
Rebecca. Thank AJ for all of us for the labeling of the Nome drop bag. Speaking of Nome, I see that Nome will be getting its heating oil supply from the Russian tanker that was being escorted by a U.S. icebreaker. A lot like the rescue of Nome by Balto back in the 1920’s.
Regarding the Plunderers lexicon, don’t forget Facebookie, tummies, SDD, and I would even put the Wookiemobile in there. Plus blurring too.
Great music from the 60’s and 70’s. We actually liked both The Guess Who and The Who. And in an early episode of Due South, they did some great scenes with “American Woman”.
And most importantly, welcome home Kirby P. T.
Wookie
2:39 pm on January 14th, 2012
Wonderfluffed should be left out of the lexicon. Gah
The word Siber should be included. Rio came up with that word instead of Sibes, which it has always been.
Gah is one of my favorite Rio words.
3:14 pm on January 14th, 2012
Look, everyone, we are going to NOME!!!
Thanks, AJ.
I want to send a picture of my boys, of course, and one of me and Gus. And Dad. Mom doesn’t want her photo but we shall see!
Bee, mom likes the idea of 4 x 10. Maybe we could stretch mom out and make her look skinny!
Welcome back, Kirby. We have missed you. And hello to Liz and Cricket! I still miss Lexi. I wish that she would check in sometime.
3:17 pm on January 14th, 2012
I think wonderfluffed has to be included.
3:19 pm on January 14th, 2012
Mary, here. Just wanted to share some good news. As you know, I was in a head on collision last April, and the pain has been unrelenting. I know that many of you know what that is like. On Thursday, I went in for my second injection between C5 and C6. This was a test drive, but it has given me some relief for the first time in month. In two weeks they will inject an anti-inflammatory and I will really be twirling!!
The world has gone from gray to sparkling colors and great beauty!
3:23 pm on January 14th, 2012
Having said that, I need to have someone call the SPCA for me and Gus. Mom put a Vocal Coach ap on her ipaw, and I have never heard such screechy caterwaulering in my entire life. Sheesh. She cannot carry a tune in a tin bucket and yet she look like she was having fun. Thank Dog she has stopped for the time being.
3:26 pm on January 14th, 2012
Wolfie, that is wonderful news about your mom. Living with pain takes so much joy from life.
We love CATerwaulering!
3:29 pm on January 14th, 2012
BIG, BIG prayers going out for the trio!!! May blessings and their heart’s dersires rain upon them! (whispering….any chance of a romance between YSuccessfulAS and Opehelia? I know he went to Texas to see her over the holidays.)
3:33 pm on January 14th, 2012
Rio will need his own section in a Plunderer’s lexicon for all his wuffling, Gahing and so many other words I can’t think of now.
3:37 pm on January 14th, 2012
Mom and dad finishe the Hunger Games last night and it is absolutely wonderful. The premise reminds me of the Lottery, a short story by Shirley Jackson. There are parts that are brutal, and some parts that mom could not listen to, but the story is still excellent.
3:41 pm on January 14th, 2012
Spencer!….Wooo!Weeee!….It is a really Really big football day!…snort!… Spencer and Admin’s team against me and my friends Team and Tebow….heh!…How much funis this I ask youse guys???…..Wooooo!….Excitement abounds in this house hold!…snorkel!….Okay, okay, I am supposed to calm down because the game does not start till 4:00 EST….grunt!
Walk! ….wheeze!cough!…She took Beau for the longest walk he’s ever been on and then she took me on an even longer one…huffle!….We can’t seem to go together on these walks peacefully…heh!…When Beau came back from his walk he flopped flat out on the kitchen floor…chorkel!…What a wuss!…sniff!..
SiberH!…Will you be watching the game today?….snuffle!
3:46 pm on January 14th, 2012
Correction!….The game does not start till 6:00 EST…heh!
Nome!….Holy dog-sled!…snort!…We are all going to Nome!…heh!…That is OUTRAGEOUS….WoooOOOOOOOOWOOOOOO!WHEEEEEE!…Thanks AJ the Giant!…awsome!snort!

AJ & Bella: You are the Best!!! Thank you for the nice surprise AJ.
Drop bags at the next auction…great idea C.Harris
Twirling here at Wolfie’s terrific news.
Melanie: Sending good, Good, GOOD vibrations and thoughts of success for The Talented Trio! (thank you for the photo MollyPop’s Mom. It’s always good to have a visual)
Kirby: It is so nice to hear from you. The Plunderers do worry when someone is not heard from in a while. As for catching up…I don’t know how anyone ever catches up after being off the blog for a time. Just a few hours and already we have missed a lot. Just jump in…we’ll get you up to speed in no time.
4:02 pm on January 14th, 2012
Excellent news Wolfie. What is the vocal coach app for the iPad all about?
4:17 pm on January 14th, 2012
Yes, we must add Wookiemobile to the lexicon for sure.
Howlers: No snow here. Temp in the low forties (that’s above fahrenheit C.Harris & Bella)
Siber and Rose: Forget the baseball caps…you need to pack your Stormy Kromers.
That project mentioned the other night – a kitchen cart & 2 book shelves is 2 thirds completed. Mom, not being a handy type person is struggling. The cart and smaller bookcase are now finished. She says there was a reason they were on sale as she had to mickey-mouse certain parts to get it to work. Right now this is how it stands: Some wooden dowels aren’t fitting in place, one wheel won’t fit on the cart and there are parts left over. The good news is she’s not working on a car.
Standing by for the big game.
4:18 pm on January 14th, 2012
Besides being an instrument of torture, it teaches you how to warm up your voice by singing different sounds and going up and down the scales. That’s all that mom has done so far.
4:23 pm on January 14th, 2012
Did anyone catch Spence’s plug for “World Book Night” on facebookie?
I am not sure who is donating the books, but they provide a list and the idea is for folks to pass out 20 copies of a book (one you have already read) to light or non readers on a designate night in April. We signed up, and our first choice is the Hunger Games. Our second choice was Ender’s Game and our third choice was My Sisters Keeper.
I wonder what Spence’s choice are?
4:44 pm on January 14th, 2012
Several of youse have mentioned this to Kirby (welcome back by the way), but don’t even try to catch up. Barb has been gone for the weekend and is hard just after 2 or 3 days. Just start fresh, Kirby.
Rio, Cesar Millan always takes his quarling dogs on a walk to get them acclimated to each other. According to him, that is the best place to socialize. Sometimes they show him with a doz. BIG dogs, and he is on roller skates! What’s up with you guys?
5:12 pm on January 14th, 2012
Decided I had to get gas (why didn’t I do this yesterday when it was only -26) and groceries so left home and found that once I was a mile away the temp was -42 instead of -50. I must live in a sinkhole. One gas pump was frozen, the other took my credit card but the pad was frozen so I couldn’t do anything. The owner had to reset it which took a while. Brrr. Ice fog was very thick and there is always ONE PERSON who wants to do the speed limit even though YOU CAN’T SEE ANYTHING. Also, at -42 brakes freeze since you aren’t in stop-n-go traffic. Free advice: never go so fast that when you need to stop you don’t have time to slowly pump the brakes a few times to engage them. Geez, even when I was young and stupid, I was a careful driver. Does anyone else put HEET in their gas tanks?
Is YSAS and OTAS, et al., in the Plunderer’s dictionary?
5:42 pm on January 14th, 2012
We are going to send Kelly’s contact info to someone, maybe Melanie, to have incase we disappear. Sounds like many of you have already given someone emergency contact numbers.
Barb will finish White Wings tomorrow, so we need G & B’s address. Please send to chickenladybarb@yahoo.com.
5:46 pm on January 14th, 2012
Wolfie, Great news that your mom is feeling so much better!
Rio, My newspaper says that the game will start at 6 for us.
If I watch it and Denver looses, I will feel it is all my fault. Maybe I shouldn’t watch the game.
5:49 pm on January 14th, 2012
Masquers, A baseball cap will be enough for me in Nome. Huskies don’t need SK hats.
5:53 pm on January 14th, 2012
C.Harris, We don’t know what HEET is.
6:03 pm on January 14th, 2012
Thanks B, Rose and Sibes, Cricket says hi to you all. Good morning everyone.
Rebecca, only about minus 30, huh?
6:04 pm on January 14th, 2012
On second thoughts, i see what you mean – just saw CH’s temps!
6:04 pm on January 14th, 2012
Siber-H: HEET is an antifreeze for your gas tank. It comes in 12 oz plastic bottles and you put in one bottle per 10 gallons of gas. It keeps the gas lines from freezing. If you park in a garage like I do, moisture condenses inside the gas tank as the levels of gasoline go down and when you are driving in freezing weather you can suddenly discover your lines clogged with ice chips. I don’t put it in every time I get gas (although I am better at it as the temp drops).
6:11 pm on January 14th, 2012
C.Harris, I don’t think they even sell it here but it sounds like a good idea for you.
6:13 pm on January 14th, 2012
C. Harris, we need to tell you that your weather reports sure take the fun out of our saying how cold it is on our farm. We are feeling like real weenies now.
6:17 pm on January 14th, 2012
Thanks for the blessing and all for the trio! I wish I could share with you, but I can’t at this point.
YSAS and Ophelia are more of brother, sister than romantic love. FOTAS who wants everyone married now that she is going to be married had to finally face that fact. 🙂
Bella, the Drop Bag is magnificent! Now that Christmas is over I’ll share what I did with the two that I won in the auction. (then I have to get back to work)
From drop bags to art!

Now that is what I call Art!
6:47 pm on January 14th, 2012
Excitement!….I don’t know if I can stand all the excitement today….wooooo!…SiberH, yes you better watch the game with me…snort!…There are waaaayyy too many Patriot Fans on this here blog…sniff!…We need to stick together to the bitter or ecstatic end…heh!
Framed!!…Leave it to Melanie to frame drop bags…heh!…I was wondering what she was going to do with them…snorkel!
Project!… We’ve been very busy doing busy stuff today, but she was able to get a start on a new project that is larger than 3 x 3 inches…snort!…..Here is a photo of what she has accomplished so far…grunt!

AJ and Bella – thank you for the great honor. And we really like the idea of being in Nome without having to worry about freezing our delicate little underbits off.
We were watching the Dog Games on tv – we have seen agility before, but this had diving games, frisbee catches and other events. The dogs looked like they were having a good time. The diving dogs would run and LEEEAAAAPPP off a platform into a pool to retrieve a toy. This does NOT sound like fun to us, but those dogs seemed happy. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this kind of games?
7:14 pm on January 14th, 2012
Rio- as usual, your Friend’s work is amazing and lovely. We love lily of the valley.
We think that with all her work with little bits of paper and resocializing/retraining Beau, she deserves to treat herself to an ipod so she can listen to her own music. You would be willing to give up part of your treat budget so she could get one, wouldn’t you?
7:18 pm on January 14th, 2012
That is beautiful, Rio!
Ok, I will watch the game, but just remember that whatever happens…it ain’t my fault.
7:27 pm on January 14th, 2012
We just saw a double dose of Rio on top – one snap in his friend’s arms, and one with Wookie. Cool.
We have seen those water games on tv. Seems like Labs are the dominate breed, but the winner today was not a Lab. They do look like they are having fun. PETA would probably disagree.
Youse guys were saying favorable things about The Firm, so think we will catch it tonight from 7-9:00. Must be a repeat of the first 2 shows.
7:46 pm on January 14th, 2012
SiberH!… Don’t worry. Whatever happens will be Tebows fault…snort!…Or at least that’s what everybody will say…heh!…Good or Bad. Now I am getting even more excited and wound up!!! You would think this is the Superbowl…heh!heh!…Woooooooo!….
7:51 pm on January 14th, 2012
How youse guys always get The Plunderers on the top right? I always get FOC that I don’t know. Grumble.
C.Harris: We use HEET. Have to! Our cars stay outside and the Subaru likes to freeze up. We’re going to be negative tonight and all of 13 degrees tomorrow (with wind). But NOTHING like you and Snowhook! (whispering … that’s okay with me)
MagPie, tell Barb to send the info this way.
Riö: Your friend’s work reminds me of what it’s like to be warm. That is nice! Also tell her I haven’t forgotten her. Just as I get well YSAS needs a lot of work.
Masquers: Congrats to your mom! Well almost congrats! We are Plunderers, we make things work!
7:54 pm on January 14th, 2012
GAH!…. Our cable went Out!!….grunt!… Someone here just about had a heart attack and I may or may not have rolled over and played dead on the carpet….snort!… It came back on in the nick of sudden death…wheeze!
7:57 pm on January 14th, 2012
Oops, dad is in the doghouse. He went to a church meeting at 700 am and hasn’t been seen or heard from since. Mom had breakfast all ready to go- homemade yeast waffles, bacon, fresh coffee and sliced oranges. Heh, I must say, Gus and I made out like bandits.
8:00 pm on January 14th, 2012
Oh hey…I didn’t realize the Saints were playing the 49ers. Go 49ers! Heh.
8:01 pm on January 14th, 2012
I like Tim Tebow. He would not hurt dogs the way that Whasshis face Vick did.
8:02 pm on January 14th, 2012
B&M: The first show of The Firm was on last Sunday. This was the 2 hour pilot for the new show.
Anyone watching the Saints/S.F. game? Some great plays by both teams. S.F. ahead at the moment.
Project is complete! (whispering) just don’t lean on it too hard.
It looks good from a distance and that’s the important thing right? Who cares if it’s functional (lol)
8:03 pm on January 14th, 2012
Wolfie, Please keep us posted. I’m sure he is okay, but, yes, he belongs in the doghouse.
8:03 pm on January 14th, 2012
I won’t mention that it was 68* and sunny here.
8:05 pm on January 14th, 2012
Holy Toledo! Now the Saints are ahead!
8:06 pm on January 14th, 2012
Rio, your friend is an amazing artist!
8:11 pm on January 14th, 2012
68 degrees and Sunny. sigh. Dog house for sure!
Was watching the game during dinner. Might have to turn on the other while I get the dogs ready for bed.
When you put books on it, Masquers, it will get stronger!
Hmmm. Was googling wine rack. That brought the occasional strange picture … snicker.
Time to get the dogs ready for the Puppy Pee and Poo Parade. Have to remember NOT to close the storm door. In this weather it the lock freezes and then I have to go around and yell and hope Zoe hears me. So far she has done it twice and I have done it once.
TTFN ZZZZZZ
8:11 pm on January 14th, 2012
Touch Down by S.F. in the last 31 SECONDS of the game!!!
8:17 pm on January 14th, 2012

8:18 pm on January 14th, 2012
I wonder how Sam is doing.
8:20 pm on January 14th, 2012
Holy!…Crap!…Its already 7 – 0 Patriots…gulp!…I need to go outside and piss on something…grump!
8:21 pm on January 14th, 2012
If youse guys weren’t watching you missed a great game.
Thanks for the encouragement Melanie. I’ll tell mom.
8:22 pm on January 14th, 2012
I’m having a chew strip…one of many, I’m sure.
8:32 pm on January 14th, 2012
Siber: You are making me laugh.
8:37 pm on January 14th, 2012
Mom bought a few whole organic chickens. They were already frozen so she has to make them whole. This is not something she has done often or lately, as she just buys boneless, skinless breasts nowadays. But we try to buy better meats, instead of grocery store meats, and told her the chicken should be local and organic and free-range.
Can anyone give us tips on cooking the whole chicken, and also tips for making stuff with the leftover parts?
8:51 pm on January 14th, 2012
Speaking for the nation, anyway you want to cook them is fine with us. Yum! Just take the bones out please.
9:00 pm on January 14th, 2012
Chickens!….I’m sure Barb can tell you guys how to clean and roast a whole chicken…snort!…Does it still have its head and beak?….ugh!…
Game!….Whew! Broncos have scored so its 14 – 7 Patriots…sniff!….This is going to be an excellent game!….heh!heh!
9:03 pm on January 14th, 2012
Rio, we are guessing it is “dressed”. LOL
Wolfie, if it is up to us, we see no need to cook it at all. Mom thinks that is not funny.
9:08 pm on January 14th, 2012
It’s a good game. So far, Denver is doing okay…hanging n there.
9:08 pm on January 14th, 2012
Wolfie: Hope all is well with your dad. Let us know what’s up as soon as you know.
Good job on the framing Melanie. A clever idea.
Rio: Another beautiful project in progress.
Good morning Liz & Cricket.
Off to watch a show here.
Back tomorrow – Bear
9:15 pm on January 14th, 2012
Bye!…Bear!…heh!
Dressed!….Lets hope thats not what New England has in mind for the Broncos…huffle!… Damn! Pats got another first down…yeep!…DO NOT LET THEM SCORE!…gruff!
9:16 pm on January 14th, 2012
GAH!…Grump!…I need something or someone to chew on…sniff!
9:18 pm on January 14th, 2012
This is the first time we are watching Tebow. Haven’t been impressed so far, but lots of time.
9:25 pm on January 14th, 2012
Patriots!….They look 10 times more fierce than when they kicked our butts 4 weeks ago….huffle!…It seems like they multiply on the field like a swarm of bees….wuffle!
Oley!…Sometimes the fourth quarter is unbelievable for Tebow. Maybe you will be treated to that tonight…heh!…That’s what I am counting on saving the day anyways…chuffle!
9:26 pm on January 14th, 2012
Charris: Red Heet came up in our conversation last night—should we add it or shouldn’t we? Affirmative. We use yellow heat to melt snow for the dogs on the trail.
Wolfie: I hope your pop comes home soon. Maybe he just needed some alone time. Whitey-Lance took some time for himself a couple of years back.
Melanie: I hope they liked the drop bags.
Rio: As usually, your friend’s art is lovely. On a cold day like today, it brings the feeling of warmth.
9:33 pm on January 14th, 2012
OH, are you wanting to roast those chickens?
9:37 pm on January 14th, 2012
Sigh, We need Tebow to get truly impressive tonight.
9:37 pm on January 14th, 2012
Touchdown!….Brady has thrown FOUR touchdowns in the first half….snort!….How is that possible?…grumble!… This whole thing is not going the way I had imagined it…sniffle! ….I think someone is looking in the fridge for a beer. I hope she brings me one too…gurgle!
9:38 pm on January 14th, 2012
Damit. The tv’s cuting out! Nooooooo!
9:40 pm on January 14th, 2012
(whispering) we think we can hear Spencer chuckling.
Liz, yes we think Mom has roasting in mind.
9:43 pm on January 14th, 2012
Bee, We got your email and have recorder your #. Tried to reply, but for some reason it would not work. Tomorrow will send you and Melanie our contact info, thank you.
Oley, We have been buying local humanely raised chicken for several years. Assuming these are fryer/roasters and not stewing hens (older birds). You can just defrost and then roast them with some butter basting. Make sure the gilbets are not packed inside before roasting. Barb likes the liver for herself, but she cooks the neck, gizzard and heart in water and then puts the meat and juice on my kibble. Yum!
The leftovers can be used the way you would use any chicken leftovers.
Barb gets some of hers as “split fryers”, meaning it is half of a bird. There is a little extra charge but better for her, since a whole chicken is a bit much.
You can also cut the bird up into frying pieces, or quarter it for the grill. Any questions, let us know.
9:46 pm on January 14th, 2012
Howlers: I put olive oil on the whole chicken and salt and pepper and then bake it at 325 or 350 for an hour. I also make mashed potatoes and gravy. Then with the leftover chicken and gravey I make a casserole: Dice the meat of the chicken, slice carrots, onions and potatoes. Put them in a casserole dish and cover it with gravy, salt and pepper. I bake it covered for one hour.
9:46 pm on January 14th, 2012
DrAt! Mom is making us go to bed. We all had a late night last night and our pop must be in at work at 4:00 a.m. We will have to watch a game recap in the morning, and we’ll read the rest of tonight’s blog for any chicken tips. Good night all. Every party needs a pooper. That’s why you invited us…
9:46 pm on January 14th, 2012
NOOOOO!…. Five touchdowns in the first half….grunt! ….and they have time to kick the extra point….huffle! …SiberH, could you please go outside and start digging holes?? I doubt this will help, but you never know…wuffle!
9:48 pm on January 14th, 2012
Sorry folks. This is just too frustrating. I’ll have to read all the (gory details) highlights in the morning.
Good night & good luck.
9:49 pm on January 14th, 2012
Good idea, Commander Rio. I’m on it!
(whispering) This is bad, really bad.
9:50 pm on January 14th, 2012
Maggie and Bee, thanks for the advice…we will give these a try. We think that chicken won’t be defrosted until Monday. Good night again.
9:53 pm on January 14th, 2012
Howlers: The chickens that I buy have the gibblets cleared out so I’m not sure what to do with those.
9:55 pm on January 14th, 2012
Brady!… I just want everyone to know that we here love Tom Brady….sniff!…He is one of the true great honorable men and quarterbacks….wuffle!….But why does he have to be so damned good tonight?….sob!sob!…Why does my team have to endure this tromping when everybody in the country, except for Stover, is watching??….wuffle! …Tom I love ya, but dammit back down babe, back down. Do not go for 10 touchdowns, please! …..sob!
9:55 pm on January 14th, 2012
I meant the tv not the game, but I see that’s not going so well either.
9:56 pm on January 14th, 2012
Dad finally called. He went into work for a few hours, went to his folks to clean out the rain gutters, and is supposedly on his way home. He had called around noon and left a message that I didn’t get.
Dad has this thing about time, and it drives mom crazy. He’ll call and say that he is on his way home, and then will go AWOL for 8 hours or so. To us, it’s a matter of common courtesy. One time dad when for a two mile run right before the company Christmas party. He ended up running 26 miles in the dark and mom finally called the sheriff. It was below freezing and dad had on shorts. Geez! Now she figures that he’s a big boy and can take care of himself but it still hurts.
9:59 pm on January 14th, 2012
We gave up on the game after the second touchdown.
10:00 pm on January 14th, 2012
Staff has been very busy today and just turned on the laptop. She is going back to the beginning to read it now, but she says Mr.Staff just told her that the Tebow era is ending….Ouch! Rio, stop biting!!!
10:02 pm on January 14th, 2012
Russell looks just like Gus Puppy!
10:06 pm on January 14th, 2012
Era!…. I think the Tebow “season” is ending, but the Era is just beginning…heh!heh!… There is always next year, and hey, there’s still the second half….snort!….Almost anything can happen yet, so I’m not giving up all hope yet…chuffle!
10:13 pm on January 14th, 2012
Wolfie, my dad also has a very loose handle on time. Is it a guy thing?
OH, i do the same as B with roasting a chicken, except i rub it all over with butter, not olive oil.
10:14 pm on January 14th, 2012
Thanks for letting us know, Wolfie. It is good that he is on his way home. Some people really do have a problem with time. My dad can lean in that direction sometimes.
Me too, Rio. Brady is a fine quarterback and I don’t dislike the Patroits. I’m pretty sure I will be rooting for them in their next playoff game. It is just that, well, Denver got into the playoffs and now they are playing like a bunch of high schoolers.
10:18 pm on January 14th, 2012
Six! ….I’m only going to continue watching because this is the last Bronco game we will see for quite some time…snuffle!
10:18 pm on January 14th, 2012
Liz, Mom says maybe it is a guy thing. She doesn’t know any women with the time problem.
10:21 pm on January 14th, 2012
Rio, We are going to look on the bright side…the end of the Broncos games means we are that much closer to baseball season.
10:28 pm on January 14th, 2012
Staff has been very busy today and just turned on the laptop. She is going back to the beginning to read it now, but she says Mr.Staff just told her that the Tebow era is ending….Ouch! Rio, stop biting!!!
Guess I forgot to post this,
Barb and Maggie we have your contact information and we also have Kelly’s phone and email in case you are not available. I guess you don’t remember giving it to us huh?
10:33 pm on January 14th, 2012
Wolfie, Glad she found him, even if he is going to end up in the dog house!
Oley, Another thing you can do with the leftovers is use them as Bee suggested, but top with a pie crust for pot pie.
Also good leftover as chicken tacos or enchaladas.
Sometimes we throw a half of a peeled onion and a couple of apple quarters in the chicken cavity before roasting. Adds to the flavor.
Checked on the game at halftime. Was not very close, so that Tebow guy needs a very strong 4th (per Rio).
10:41 pm on January 14th, 2012
First! …Down. Finally, haven’t heard those words all night long…..grump!…Oh, and then they lose 5 yards….whistle!…I am so scared that our Quarterback is going to get hurt big time tonight….snuffle!
Alice!…Quit repeating your dumb comments…grump!
10:59 pm on January 14th, 2012
We are saying good night.
I could go into high drama and say I can’t take this anymore, but I won’t do that.
11:03 pm on January 14th, 2012
Rio, be nice to our Alice Magnolia!
11:14 pm on January 14th, 2012
Wolfie: I’m glad your pop just checked in. Might I suggest a timepiece or two be added to the dog house so at least he’ll know how long he is there thinkin about what he did.
AJ just arrived home from the trail. His black coat and bibs are frosted over and look light gray. His beard is thawing and I’m making him dinner.
11:42 pm on January 14th, 2012
Nice!…To Alice?…snort!…No way Jose. She likes to push my buttons and deserves everything I give her…heh!
Fight!… The game could have done without that big fight caused by one of the Broncos…sniff!…Now that is how to pour salt in the wound, let me tell ya….grumble!….The Patriots deserved to win and move onward and upward…heh!…Tomorrow, we here will be rooting for The Packers. I hope I get to wear cheese on my flat head…woooooo!
Goodnight!….All youse!
11:54 pm on January 14th, 2012
Wolfie – Mama will admit to having some of those issues with time. She gets lost in her clay, and oops – dinner should have been cooking an hour or so ago….
She considers it an amazing thing that she is never late to any job with a time line – but its a struggle.
Glad your dad is home – doesn’t he realize that your mom worries about him? (she could try duct taping a cell phone to him. With the “on” switch super glued open)
Havent’ been watching the football game. Don’t care. Silly, overpaid boys playing games for obscene amounts of money.
ok – putting the soap box away now and going to bed. Night all – sweet dreams and deep peace.
