But are starches really good for anyone?

    Good morning all.

    Good morning, Bee and all.
Does this mean we can eat speghetti with the rents?

  3. Tupper and Gilly
    8:39 am on January 24th, 2013

We have NO desire to eat like a wolf. Fuzz butts, grass, mice, “nature’s leftovers”, etc. we will stick to our nice warm, water-soaked kibble, with the occasional pizza crust thrown in.

Oh – and Good Morning everyone

Here’s a real question: When you look at the “nevermore/raven” in the Facebook box on the right, which do you see first–the word or the bird? I’m just curious. (I saw the word first.)

  5. OleyHowlers
    9:34 am on January 24th, 2013

We see the bird. But then, we are Sibes after all

The Howlers are making me laugh.

  7. Barb & Maggie
    11:02 am on January 24th, 2013

We saw the bird first, but only slightly so.

Barb just got a great sounding dog food mix if anyone is interested. It is raw and then frozen into individual servings. Could be fed as a total food for dogs that are sick or need to gain weight, or as a kibble topping.

We saw the bird first also. Staff says her degree is in fine arts so therefor…

    Greetings!

Not feeling tip-top today so I am home from the busy place. It is another $#%@!!! cold day here in New York, but the Prof and I have been styling and profiling our new Alaska gear, and we stay toasty warm in it! Today I am just in my flannel Snoopy bottoms and a t-shirt.

    Dawson! I won? Really?

B, funny but I see both at once….I am both near and far-sighted.

    Loving the new FOCs.

Rebecca, an SDD waits for you upon your return. Be safe! Feel better!

    B. – Like Wose, I saw the bird and the words at the same time. Also, I feel much better since I went Paleo and gave up the starches, mostly. They’re not in my everyday diet – just as a treat occasionally.

    That is an interesting article.
I knew us Sibers were an OLD breed, but the beginning was 33,000 years ago?
I saw the bird first. Any self-respecting Siber would see the bird first.

Wose, I hope you feel bettr soon. It is good you are staying home today.

Interesting article. I wonder if the coydog also would be missing that starch digesting gene.
Rose: Yes, you won! Is your address in dishlickers?
Terry: How is Haley settling in?
Hooray! No new snow and the sun is shining. A perfect day for mushing dogs.
SiberH: I just finished Yukon Alone by John Balzar about the 1998 Yukon Quest. A Siberian Husky team came in second place!

Although I saw the word first (I thought the swirling pattern was interesting), after someone pointed out the raven I can now see both at the same time. I wonder what Spence is doing with that.

I just posted a sketch/story on my blog.

  20. Tupper and Gilly
    1:21 pm on January 24th, 2013

Bee – we saw the word first. When we read Melanie’s post, we had no idea what she was referring to, but looked over at Facebook and immediately saw Nevermore. Only after we saw that did the bird silhouette pop out at us. Hmmmm…what is your diagnosis of that, Professor?

WOSE! Congratulations on your win. See, its jut the start of all the wonderful things coming your way soon.

Rio – we love that poster. Thanks for putting it up. We aren’t sure where Junior will be, but if we were along, we would be sitting in the blue box category.

Yesterday someone was asking about the ice luminaries. Here is a link to the company/woman who gave us our tutorial on luminaries frozen in a balloon. They work great and you don’t have to worry about the form breaking because you WILL break the balloon to free the luminary.

It has a link to find local stores and an online order form also.

I will get you a link for the tower ones in just a minute…

Rio, That is a very useful photo. I think Junior has been run as a team dog, but I could be wrong.

  30. Siber-H

I imagine the race standings, which we all know can be slow to be posted, will be our only way of knowing what is going on.
Rebecca is our best and quickest source of information….bless her. I hope she is feeling better.

Rio, Mom won’t let me have the truck to come pick up my prize and she won’t buy me a Porsche 911.

They had been bombed out of their London home and were living at their country home, Monk’s House in Rodmell. I mailed the card.

    4:02 pm on January 24th, 2013

Good Morning! I just turned the computer on a few minutes ago. Been very busy. Have many things to figure out from the blog’s comments. B.Stover, did you put another sketch/essay up? It took them how long to figure out that dogs were domesticated by the use of food? (I’ll have to read that article)
    And other delightful things.

Fed the Pack except for the two young ladies that I next took to the vet for a reduction in hormones. snicker. Went to the store to get cheap blankets, went to the grocery store, went and got Jesse. Did the Pack’s pills, cleaned the kitchen, ate some lunch, started dog proofing the West Wing. Lots of work. The two blankets now stop the heat from going up the staircase. Rested 15 minutes. Took Jesse home. Fed the dogs. Called the vet. I’m leaving in 14 minutes to pick up the two ladies at 5. Both should be able to walk around. Come home. Feed them.

Sleep downstairs on recliner. Hmmm. I’m not doing NOTHING for ANYTHING tomorrow!

  45. Melanie

  48. BearSpiritDog
    4:33 pm on January 24th, 2013

Melanie: Brisk and Bitterly Cold. Woof! Doesn’t sound like it’s warming up to me. That 200 yr. old house must be a “bear” to keep warm.
WeatherKat says something called the Alberta Clipper(?) is coming south on Friday.
Dawson: Do you have anything to do with this?

Rio: That’s a great poster of the Northern Lights 300. Now if only we could track it.

Siber-H: Speaking of tracking…do you have your Iditarod Tracking Device ordered?

Buddy: Thinking of you and wondering how you are doing today.
Also waiting to hear from the Herbs about their dad.
Rose: A magic formula passed down from our Gram: (Caution! Not for Kats)
Hot water, the juice of one lemon, a splash (or more) of cognac.
    Followed by a long nap.

  51. BearSpiritDog
    4:48 pm on January 24th, 2013

Wooo! An Iditarod Insider is the thing to be.

  52. Wose

Masquers, your gram’s remedy sounds like it will do the trick!

  53. Wose
    4:56 pm on January 24th, 2013

Dawson: So, the Prof and I both purchased some light weight coats, that have some shiny foil stuff in them that keeps each of us really, really warm. We both have tech touch gloves, useful for taking pictures, or I-Padding, or cell phoning, plus keeping our hands toasty warm. We both have our thermal underwear, and cool thermal socks. Prof got a really nice pair of thermal, waterproof New Balance hiking boots that match quite nicely with his jacket. All this can be worn (and has been this week) here in New York.

  54. Siber-H
    5:05 pm on January 24th, 2013

Bear, I haven’t signed up yet for the Insider this year. Glad you reminded me. We would all be so lost without that Tracker.

Wose, You need to stay home again tomorrow so you will have time to get better.

Melanie, You need to do NOTHING tomorrow.

  55. Tupper and Gilly

  56. OleyHowlers
    5:40 pm on January 24th, 2013

What news of T&G’s dad did we miss?

Wose, we didn’t know there was such a thing as tech touch gloves. What a fantastic idea!

  57. Riö – The Evil Pug

  58. Wose

Hey Mr.Husky….Heh. Staff renewed her Insider status last week. You are a slacker!

Packages have been mailed off to Wose, Linda the Lurker, Bear Spirit and Gus&BooBear. Hope those were the correct ones.

I have to go back to the post office tomorrow. That Post Office is always packed and I learned that 3 of the 4 people who have worked there forever are retiring at the end of this month. No replacements have been hired. OMD! Don’t expect any mailing from this address after January.

  61. Masquers
    6:25 pm on January 24th, 2013

WEll, that was interesting. Gracie is doing fine. On the other paw . . Katie is now coming out of the morphine. Didn’t want to get up . . didn’t want to walk. Fred had to carry her (110 pounds) to the car. Luckily, one of my nephews was near by and carried her into the house.

She has moved all of three feet, but she has moved.

I am so sorry to tell you that our Katie has just gone over the Rainbow Bridge.
Everything went well in the surgery and the post op.
I guess she just wanted to keep the Raven company.

I have to tell Zoë tomorrow morning.
I will probably not be on the blog.

Rio – we had gone to bed after a long hard day. But we awoke and felt like we had to check email for some reason. There was a message from Melanie telling us about her puppy.

This was actually one of the youngest dogs. She was going in to the vet today to be spayed. Everything was fine, then suddenly, she just slipped away. The vet seems to think it might have been a blood clot. In that case, nothing and no one could have changed the course of events.

It has indeed been a very hard time for that family. We are going outside at midnight to do a special prayer, asking for a “new day” for all of them.

Melanie: I am so sorry — another loss to your family. But being with Raven is a good thought for both of them (and us). Tell Zoe that we are still thinking of her and sending her our prayers and healing energies. You too, of course.

Hearts are heavy as we think of Melanie and her family. We are fathered around you in the quilt offering love and comfort.

Creator, pleas bless and keep Katie’s spirit safe. Please bless she will know she is loved. Please bless she didn’t suffer. And, please bless she will know she was thought of in her passing. Amen.
