Financial Advice (More)

“Lost our AAA rating?” says Spence. “The whole country?”

“Yup,” says Admin. “Probably grounds for not paying taxes – it’s not a safe investment anymore.”

“Let’s leave that idea on the shelf for now. What about Bernie’s futures scheme?”

“Shorting pasta on the assumption that Italy’s going down the tubes? I like Wookie’s take – that’s the al dente plan.”

“But is that what to do? Make bets on things getting even worse?”

Admin sips his coffee, says nothing.

“How about we take Audrey for a walk, now that she’s been cleared by the vet?” says Spence.

“That’s the ticket.”

Zoë just came in and told me about our downgrade and here are Spence and Admin talking about it.

So the people who okayed all those toxic loans and have now done the math wrong on our downgrade are saying we’re not a safe bet.

    “Fascinating”

“Fascinating” as Mr. Spock would say.

Anyhoo . . . congratulations to Aubrey on getting through her recovery from surgery!

I’ve been trimming Patsy’s front paws, in front of the computer while she is on the bed. She’s really enjoying this set up!

    You can’t fix stupid.

My mom says that alot. Me? Not so much. Mom tells me we are going to Grand Rapids today to visit one of my favorite people: her mom. Also going to say hi to the pom and weener dogie, some of my favorite 4-legged peeps.

Mom got me some new treats. Made from oatmeal and apples from someplace called Three Dog Bakery. Since taking Chet’s advice of only counting to two, can’t imagine 3 dogs cooking in a bakery.

It’s only Standard & Poor who downgraded the rating one notch (from AAA to AA+). The other two rating agencies, Moody’s and Fitch, did not. And S&P, as Melanie said, made a mathematical error overstating the Federal debt by $2 trillion (according to the NYTimes). Sigh.

And I still have to find out where the expression “That’s the ticket” comes from

    Good morning all.

Good morning. We’re getting Sam’s girl ready for that place that we can’t talk about. Some of the books on her list are Heart of Darkness, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. and Plato’s Republic. There are more but I can’t remember them all.

For those who are not familiar with this – Hobart is for boys and William Smith is for girls. They are separate schools that share a campus. A beautiful campus on Lake Seneca. Sam’s Mom went there.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
    A Tail of Two Catties
    The Three Mouse-kateers
    Mouse Catcher in the Rye
Or our personal favorite- The Cat of Monte Cristo

Unpacking!… More unpacking. It never ends around here…sniff! … The Fan that needs to be packed is not going to get packed today, just so you know Dawson…grunt!… Someone had a very fitful night of no sleep. She almost kicked me off the big bed several times until I finally whined to get off and go to my own bed with all my toys…sniff!….She is either very excited about something or just itchy, I can’t tell which right now…grump!

Shopping!… Soon she will leave and I can get some rest. She’s going with her best friend to hobby stores and then out to lunch for Mexican food and a Large, very Grande Margarita…slurp!!

Molly!…Mum’s the Word…snort!…Sammie will never know, till it is too late…snorkle!

Audrey: You’ve got the okay for romping around. No disappearing acts allowed.

Melanie: It is awesome in the extreme to sit by a campfire watching the sky with the northern lights flashing. Thanks for the heads up.
Oh…only half points for an incomplete Dawson. If you haven’t noticed, I haven’t done a Dawson for at least a double dozen days. Maybe it was the mouse which has been replaced.

I’m off to Treaty Days…and perhaps the wheelbarrow race. I have to find a strong guy to push!

Melanie: We had cloud cover last night that made seeing the northern lights impossible. Drat—I’ve never seen them in the summer.

Termination dust fell on the mountains yesterday following a day of very heavy rains. Fall is definitely on the way.

AJ’s birthday is next Saturday and I’m trying to figure out how to make it special for him. I have a fancy dinner covered—I was given a gift card to a nice resturaunt for some volunteer work I did months ago and I’v been saving the gift card for his birthday.

Rio: Does your itch-twitchy friend know she was interferring with your beauty sleep?

Bella – We had to google ‘termination dust.’ Alaskan – the first light dusting of snow on the tips of mountains.

It seems so soon since it’s still the hot summer here.

  24. B.Stover
    1:29 pm on August 6th, 2011

Thanks Mollypop. I was wondering what termination dust is. (It’s 86 here and humid.)

Went to farmer’s market and got tomatoes, carrots and green beans. Also a new coffee made with Mexican beans. Here are the tasting notes: “Medium and medium-dark roasts of the same coffee blended together to create greater complexity. Sweet, smooth, nutty and oaky with raspberry notes. A portion of each pound benefits Mesoamerica’s largest continuous cloud forest in El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve.” Interesting.

Well the food and different drinks sound great.
I was doing errands and dropped by The Royals. I have been so proud of my tomato plants, over a foot high, when I saw the Mum’s plants. They are over 5 feet tall.

I brought home tomatoes and dill and cumumber! Yum.

The play got a standing ovation last night and they made the cast take 4 bows. Cool.

Soon it will be time to take Dan to church. Right during a MAJOR rain storm. My sister will bring him home and have dinner with us.

“Termination Dust” by Sue Henry was pretty good.

Which reminds me of the audience’s opposite reaction to “Five Hamlets” last night. Very amateurish was the judgment of one of my friends. There was a lot of dashing around changing scenery and I’m still not quite sure what the “five styles” were. One was Harold Pinter’s who always uses many pauses. Last night there was a pause with the actors merely staring at one another until they all raised their arms to look at watches. That was funny…but it was one of the few funny parts. Oh well….

Frustrating!… grump!…My friend is home after a morning of fun and we are in the basement trying to watch the Wookie recommended Due South. The premier show…..wuffle! …Just to be nice my friend asked her mother if she wanted to watch it with us…sniff!…Well, its been frustrating because her mom keeps getting up doing other stuff and we have to pause the show and wait for her to sit down again. MollyPop – need any help herding those bears? Gilly just loves it that if she runs at a bear, barking her wiggly little butt off, the bears always run away. Then she comes back to the deck, grinning as if to say “see what I did?”. Meanwhile Mama is on the deck having a conniption fit trying to get Gilly in.
Have we mentioned before that Gilly is just a tad crazy? Adorable…..but definitely crazy.

Today was seven hours of hard labor on the handler cabin and the dog barn. AJ put up the exterior on both structures and I painted. I am beat not to mentioned covered in teracotta outdoor stain. As we wrapped up our day’s labor the skies opened up.

We are just checking in from the farm. Abbie and I were shanghaied this morning and hauled up here. We haven’t been here for 9 months and we got really excited when we heard the car on the gravel road and smelled the woods.

Staff says we can’t go out on the screened in porch because it has a tear in the screen and we might get out. She is such a spoil sport. She doesn’t let me go out on the 2nd floor deck any more since that time I leaped to freedom.
