Final Four Mystery

“Wonder what’s going on here?” Bernie says. “The Butler mascot, Blue Two the bulldog, is taking the tournament by storm but the UConn mascot, Jonathan the husky, isn’t even there.”

Bernie shows me pictures of both dudes. That gets me barking. I have to go outside on the patio. But from there I can easily hear Bernie on the phone. “Dom?” he says. We only know one Dom. That would be Dom Divine, the bookie. “What’s the point spread on the game? UConn by three and half? We’ll take Butler. How much? How about – “

And he names an amount. Whoa! I couldn’t have heard right.

    Good morning, everyone!

That’s not a bad choice. The Bulldogs are supposed to win because they “look meaner than the Huskies”.

    Good morning everyone.
    Gambling again? Jeesh!
Did you know that excessive gambling can be a side effect of many of the new pharmaceuticals out there? Dad was reading mom the side effects of a pill the doctor had prescribed for her Parkinson’s and he mentioned gambling.
    “Gamboling?” Mom asked.
    “That’s what it says.”
“Gamboling like a baby goat, across the hills?”
“No. Gambling as in rolling the dice.”
    “Oh. I guess that’s okay.”
I think Chet would prefer that Bernie gamboled rather than gambled.
I’m called in to work. Must gambole.

I think this is becoming a serious problem Chet. Can’t Spence or Admin do something about it?

    Good morning everyone.

Bernie, your finances are already in mess, what are you thinking?

Dawson, did you say baby goats? Oh no, you’ll get everyone in a frenzie!

We had such huge winds and rain last night. We are afraid to turn on the eagle cam. Hope the nest is still there!

Bee, if the Bulldoggies win, then this will help their finances. Go Bulldogs!

MagPie, the eagles are fine. They were on the Morning Show. They have a large dead bird in the nest.

Sam, Is that in addition to the dead rabbit on the side? They were feeding that this weekend.

  11. Sam

MagPie, it’s in addition to the rabbit. Yesterday this large dead black bird was lying there. Feathers sticking up. Hungry mouths to feed and one more soon to come.

We’re waiting anxiously to see the eaglets. Pretty windy there. We woke up to snow (cry, sniffle).

I would love to see Bernie gamboling across the canyon in his shuffling sort of way. If he won what would become of The Little Detective Agency?

I was watching the cam last night and saw the beak on the dead bird. I think it’s a crow.

Oh no, Bernie! Not again…however, as Rio says, he is a good indicator of who’s going to win.

Wolfie: I’m wondering too, about the Snowhook tally. I guess Rebecca will let us know when we reach the next level. The New York Connection may have taken us over the top – as many of our checks hadn’t reached the kennel when Rebecca announced we had achieved our sponorship goal.

    A good Monday morning, everyone.

I called the bus tour company today (that’s when they told me to) and checked to see if they had sold out or if I could ride transportation only. They had sold out. 🙁
BUT, as they were putting me on the waiting list, they had a cancelation. 🙂
I won’t be able to see YSAS in the play, but we will be able hang out.

Good morning all – just catching up on the blog after a crazy week. Liz – you mentioned one of our favorite movies – Bell, Book and Candle. Our van is even named Piewacket….it purrs when it wants to and cooperates if the mood is right. We also love Rear Window, Harvey and Brigadoon.
We enjoyed the whole Iditarod experience with Siber too, but are truly hopeful that the blog isn’t going to become Sports Central with baseball….and basketball….then football….sigh….
At least no one seems to prattle on and on about golf.
Hey gang – Mama has a question. She has some great salads all planned for Wednesday, but the weather here is so up and down – rain, snow, then warmth – she isn’t sure what kind of soups to offer. Hot soup? Thick soup? Chilled soup? Anyone have any preferences?
p.s.-we get a kick out of Nattie too. We agree Rio – the difference between Barb and Maggie’s IQ and Nattie’s is indeed vast….is there anything that she gets right?

  18. Melanie

B.Stover: The train station is 1.25 hours away 3.3 hours long and around $125 round trip.

The tour bus is $50 round trip, 30 minutes away and will take 3 hours.

They also have comfortable seats and a movie.

    I’m going this Saturday!!

  22. Barb & Maggie

Melanie, Are you not in the mood for Soup du Carrion? Yum, although blackbirds might be better baked in a pie. Actually the hare is probably well aged by now. Good beef has to age around 14-16 days, so Mr. Bunny has a ways to go.

We are in favor of hot soup, maybe one thick and one thin, if it isn’t too much trouble.

T & G, thank you for the IQ compliment, but we are afraid we could never compete with Natasha’s brilliance. Ok, so she sees things in a slightly different light, but she is still so very entertaining.

Typical Husky, “not even there”. I’m sure Jonathan has more important things to do than be a masacot at a basketball game.
With a name like Jonathan, he may be embarrassed to show his face in public and he may be headed North instead. I hope so. Maybe he can join up with Snowhook.

We are cheering for the Huskies to win, but, Bernie, we are not betting on them.

Maggie, We have seen the video of the female husky that you mentioned in last night’s post…the one that goes all that distance to the store to get her own bone and then finds her way home again. I’m very impressed with that girl and she isn’t bad looking either.

Hey, y’all! Thanks for the links for the dogs in Japan — I was wondering what would happen to the dog on the roof. I love happy endings!

Speaking of hero dogs, we had one near us the other day. The dog saved a little boy’s life! Of course, he also may have kept searchers from finding the child earlier, but that was the idiot mom’s fault, not the dog’s!

Kirby, The boy’s mother does sound like an idiot, and a slob, too. Glad he was found, maybe authorities should take another look at the home environment.

Rio, Aging of beef has to be done at temps close to freezing – around 34-36 degrees. Aging breaks down the muscle tissues, which makes it more tender. Over aged is just a step away from spoiling, as you said.

    Hello all,
Big disagreement at our house last evening. We Howlers were rooting for the Huskies (naturally), but Mom & Dad are Irish loyalists. We were all very surprised when the Irish girls beat the always-great Husky girls. Mom was so darn happy she was dancing, so we figured we could celebrate with her even tho our beloved Huskies lost.
Eagle cam has become Mom’s favorite hobby.

With Georgetown (and their mascot Jack the Bulldog) long gone from the tournament, we will just back tonight in Chevy Chase and hopefully enjoy a great basketball team. It could well be a very close game (which could help Bernie even if Connecticut wins, but just by a bit, given the spread). One funny thing about Connecticut (and may help explain the Husky mascot), the school in athletic contexts is often referred to as “UConn” which phonetically sounds just like Yukon. Wookie

    Interesting “factoid” there, Wöökie.

Glad the tot was found. Glad the dog was there.

OTAS and F have left. 🙁 We had a great time. They put up the automatic dog waterer for the outside. Now we just need a short hose. Then the dogs can have water when ever they want it. Knowing them, they’ll line up for a drink from something new.

I was wondering why the eagle hadn’t moved for a long time. I had put the cam on pause.

    Time for the laundry.

I think the eagles need to do some nestkeeping. That place is a mess.

The eagles Mom watched before this pair kept only one ‘food’ in the nest at a time. It’s the mother who broods the babies and the father brings new food when needed.

Notice there is no poop in the nest. When the babies get bigger, they will go to the edge of the nest and hang their little bottoms over the edge.

Rio, Usually Prime, the best aged meat, is bought up by the better restaurants. You won’t usually find it at the grocery stores. Next is Choice and then Select, I believe. Those 2 are what you usually see at the stores. If your friend has had a good hunk of Prime Rib (which usually refers to the cut of meat, not the quality) or fillet at a restaurant or steak house, it most likely was prime. Prime is very tender, dark and well marbled. Maybe she has brought you a doggy bag with leftovers.

I know we will be in the minority, plus going against the critics, but we liked The Kennedys and are going to watch more of it. Katie Holmes might not be the best actress, but she wasn’t awful either. And Greg Kinnear look so much like JFK that he could be him. Their father was not very likable, to say the least. Power hungry, controlling and a womanizer. Evidently Bobby was raised more by Rose, so he was more religious and more faithful to his wife. Haven’t really seen Ted yet.

Hi everyone – back from Crazy Lady land…whew.
Liz – Congratulations ! 6 sales is nothing to sneeze at. Good on ya!
Re stem cell for dogs – make sure you ask if the dog will be using their own cells, or if they would be donor cells. If donor, there may have to be a lifetime of antirejection drugs, which may be problematic.
Wookie and Siber – the name Huskies for Connecticut is indeed from the way we all pronounce the name of the university around here. It does sound just like Yukon, instead of the accent being on the name of the state.
Lots of thunderstorms around here today with lots of lightening strikes. Our local library got hit, as did the tv/electronics store next to where Mama works. There is a river right across the street and at one point, everyone was watching out the windows while the lightening forked down into the water. Pretty, but pretty scary too.
(whspering- Mama is really, really scared of lightening. Her house got hit once, and she got hit in the house)

Liz, We wish we could help with more detailed information about the stem cell treatment. Mom has known about it for a least a year now. Our suggestion would be to start searching it on the internet. Mom would also get the vet or vets to look into it. If your vet doesn’t know anything about it, get her/him to call the nearest vet school. Mom can get real pushy when it comes to dog medicine.
Good Luck and please let us know what you find out and how Cricket is doing. Mom would definately consider the stem cell treatment for a dog if she and the vet thought it would help.

Rio, Sorry I couldn’t give you more info about Reelz. It is a new channel I think, at least we just started getting it on Dish Network. It is Channel 299 here, but if you don’t have Dish, it won’t be the same.

Tupper!…. You guys stay safe – get in the basement!…yeep!…We’ve never known anyone who was hit by lightning before till now….zow!… That is incredible. No wonder she is afraid of that stuff!…grunt! …Stay safe tonight!
Be sure to put the Kats outdoors with tinfoil on their tails…heh!

MagPie!…That’s okay, if worst comes to worst we will order it on Netflix when it comes out on DVD….snort!… We are really getting into the NCAA Championship game, so we probably wouldn’t have watched it if we could find it tonight….grunt!… Somehow, in our house sports over-rules most other shows…heh!

Anyone else notice that the initials for SnowHook and Siber-H are the same? And it was Siber-H who got us involved in the Iditarod and the kennel. I think we should nominate Siber-H as an honorary member of the team. He could send his photo to AJ and Rebecca and AJ could carry it in his pocket on the trail next year. Then Siber-H could say that he virtually ran the 2012 Iditarod.

No One!?…. Is no one going to talk tonight?….grump!… There is an amazing NCAA Championship game going on right now! …Wookie, SiberH? …Nothing to contribute?…hmmmphf!….I will talk to myself then, maybe Chet will show up with some input…..chorkel!….There is always the lightning to talk about. That is incredibly interesting. ..snufkins!

Hey!…Charris! That is exactly why I am calling this year the Year of the Huskies!….grunt!…Amazing things have transpired because of SiberH to connect us to Snowhook Kennels and the 2012 Iditarod!…snort! …It was all meant To Be…snuff!

    Hi Rio,
I would talk to you but I can’t stay up. Have to go to bed and rest up for tomorrow. Our place is getting nice and busy now but it only lasts for 2 more weeks and then I will be able to blog more.
My check to Snowhook could not have gotten there for Rebecca to count that day so I think we should have more money being reported soon.
I will be in bed but I will still be able to hear the game. Unless I yell at Mr.Staff. He is watching The Event whenever there are commercials. It is strange to do that. One or the other is what I say. But for some reason (he is a guy) he can’t do that.

C.Harris – that is a wonderful idea. We love thinking that Plunderers are not only helping to sponsor financially, but also morale wise with Siber “riding” along. And C.Harris getting an interview?!?! How cool (no pun intended) is that!!!

And Rio – tin foil???? Get stuffed!

Tinfoil!… For all herb-like Kats tails…heh!…That’s what I say..snort!…Although, I do agree with the idea of a photo of SiberH representing us and “Riding along in the Iditarod” next year…sniff!… Unless, of course we can come up with a way that ALL OF US are on the ride next year…heh!snort!heh!,….Wouldn’t that be fun, fun, fun!….wooffle!

Rio – great idea. Maybe when we send checks to Rebecca, we can send pics too. And maybe we can all ride along.
We have to go for now. There are thunderstorms coming back around, and Mama is going to make us shut down the computer….and go hide under the bed with her.
G’night all. Talk to you tomorrow.

Hit by lightning inside the house?? yikes!

Thank you all for the stem cell info. The vet was very good, is the only one here who does it (but has a vested interest in getting more patients in to do the treatment, so we got a very positive spin!). It is definitely harvesting Cricket’s own cells and reproducing them, then injecting them into the affected joints (she has at least four). It sounds wonderful if it means she can be more mobile and pain free. The procedure is complicated but only takes a day.

The concern is that if it is finite, she’d have to go through it again in 12-18 months. Still…

Rio, if you were like my neighbour-dog, you were a very cute puglet.

What a wonderful idea CHarris! Thank you guys for thinking of me.
In case some of you missed this way back when, it was Rio that gave me the name Siber-H.

I’m watching the game Rio and watching another program when there are commercials just like Mr. Staff is. I know Wookie is watching the game, but I hope he is feeling okay because he would have gotten a treatment today.

I will be glad when Mrs.Staff can slow down some.

Photo’s !….Hey you never know, AJ could have an empty pocket somewhere with our photos during the Race…heh!…Wouldn’t that be fun!…snort!…So now we all have to send our next check with our infamous photos attached…snorkel!…Another wave of giving within the next month or two or whenever you can …chorkel!…If you want to be along for the actual Race!…gruff!

SiberH!… With out your intense interest over the years for the Iditarod, we here would probably never have given it more than a second thought! …snort!…Now it is an amazing, incredible, extremely exciting thing to be involved in!…wheeze!…I think almost everyone here agrees with that and they want to be an active part of the race with AJ, Rebecca, Whitey and the Snowhook team next year!…Woooo!… Just remember, they need our support all year long, to keep things going at the kennel tip-top!…heh! snuffle! …Lets support all the guys at Snowhook kennels, not just Whitey!…heh! …The mascara alone has to cost a fortune each day for these guys!…chorkel!

Bulldog!…He’s at the game!..heh!…He was licking his lips worried like…snort!…The dog fight continues with the Huskies ahead!…wooooo!…But not by alot….wheeze!

We are calling it a night. Butler is behind, so we are going to stop watching. Maybe then they will win. We don’t really follow basketball, but they were the underdog, so we were cheering for them.

Hope Bernie has enough money left to buy tin futures tomorrow morning!

Rio, We will send Snowhook another check before June so they can put it toward the entry fee if that is what they want to do. I totally agree that we want to help all the guys and girls at the kennel and not just Whitey. I think Zebbe must spend quite a bit on eye makeup.

Bulldog…A dog licking their lips is actually a sign that the dog is under stress.

SiberH. Thanks for being concerned. I did have a treatment today, but I am actually doing the best I have been doing in quite awhile. Watching the game which has turned out to be a pretty poor game so far. Looks like the Huskies will win and Bernie will lose big time. Wookie

Great news Wookie…that you are doing good.

Woo Woo Huskies Won!!! Give Jonathan a Prime Rib dinner! They couldn’t have done it without him and his non-appearances.

Wookie, I was reading fans comments on a sports website about this basketball game. They were all saying the same thing you did about it being a poor game. I don’t watch enough basketball to know that.

Jitters!….. We here think it was entirely the fault of over-active adrenaline glands that made it impossible for so many baskets to be missed during the Big Game tonight!…heh!…They all tried so hard to score from so far away instead of “getting inside” and scoring, but even when they did get “inside” they couldn’t score big time…scruffle!…It was fast, furious and intense, but ended as a very low scoring game. No superstars were born, which is the whole point, right?….huffle!

Natasha, Jay Leno did a bit on the tonight show tonight about autocorrect, pretty funny.

Uh, Kirby, I am pretty sure that the Yukon is in Canada, but I could be wrong.

Wolfie, mom’s name on WWF is Homer girl with a space. We still have not made connections. Mom really wants to change her name now that she is no longer associated with the orange box.

Mama is really cranky tonight so I am going to put her to bed. We had thunderboomers in the night too, so I had to protect the big bed.

Hi! This is kind of off topic but I need some advice from an established blog. Is it hard to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I’m thinking about setting up my own but I’m not sure where to begin. Do you have any points or suggestions? With thanks
