Ferret (More)

A ferret plays a role in Tender Is The Bite (“available for preorder!” – Mrs. Publicist). Here Chet meets the ferret:

A young woman looked out. Not Mavis, a fact I noticed only in passing. What caught my attention was the ferret on her shoulder. And I’d caught his attention, no doubt about that. He showed me his teeth first thing, just like every ferret I’d ever met. I showed him mine. You’d have done the same. His tiny eyes burned hot. Would playing a game of some sort get us off to a better start? For example, how about the grabbing-the-little-fella-by-his-collar – a velvet collar, by the way, velvet being a material I knew well from an incident with a tapestry, best forgotten – and-flipping-him-up-to-the-ceiling game? Who doesn’t like being flipped up to the ceiling? Although I don’t know personally on account of who could flip the likes of me that high, or anywhere at all? Ah, the likes of me! Once I’d flipped a bunny rabbit name of Ursula – true, not a ferret – so high that I’d had time to run over and catch her in midair and flip her up again! The look on her face! So when would be a good time to get things underway with my new ferret buddy? Now, maybe, like right away, this very –

Ch et? But it sounds like fun to us.

Yesterday we mentioned one daffodil open with buds to follow. Looked out this morning and lo and behold …

    Greetings!

    I think a “CHET!” from Bernie follows… :^)

A bit of snow over night in this neck of the woods.

    Good day to all!

I think Chet should stay away from ferrets.

    Good day to all.

Yay remembered how to do it.
If you’re having gray or cold weather enjoy the flowers.

Rose: If I were a betting man, I would bet that you nailed that exactly right!

And a good morning to everyone. Some light snow here; last night a bit of icy precipitation as well, but that has pretty well melted by now. Looks like the middle part of the country is getting hit pretty badly though. Rio’s friend, BooBear’s mom and Herd of Hounds — please be extra careful and stay safe.

It’s 68 and sunny and t-shirt and shorts weather again today, although there is a 40% chance of rain tomorrow morning. Going to direct seed some carrots, radishes and beets today as well as cilantro, chives and bunching onions. That’s it for rain for the next 10 days so we’re having a very dry winter. My water bill is going to be outrageous this year. Haven’t even bothered to put the drip in rain mode.

I’m potting on my seedlings. I got them started in a tray outside and am moving them to recycled nursery pots for a while before transplanting them into the raised bed garden in the front yard. Old house (1922). I’m doing “traditional” landscaping of a Victory garden in the front yard. We have clay and there used to be lawn so I’m building four raised beds with what I call “bench trim” around the top so I can sit and pull weeds comfortably. All plumbed for drip. Four rectangles with a bird bath in the middle when I get done. Working on number two right now but a little rain would help keep the ground soft so I can clear the weeds and grass before assembly. I have to plant some roses too. Need to find a nursery that can sell me a Snowfire rose as mine died.

I had some dogs that used to do the toss in the air trick. Ramses did it with nursery pots. He invented the game himself so he could play fetch when I was at work. He’d stick his head in the pot and then toss with his nose. Eventually he learned to use empty pots rather than empty them of their contents. Before him Caesar and Goliath used to play the toss game as a tag team with any cat that entered the yard the tragic results of which I will not expand on. Diana is not much of a tosser, more of a carrier. She loves to chase down balls and then carry them. But she won’t retrieve, even though she is a third Golden Retriever and a third German Shepherd. The other third is a mix of terriers with a Collie and Rottweiler thrown in way up the family tree. Her Daddy must have been a huge German Shepherd mix as she is 100 lbs and her Momma was only 65 lb. Her two favorite toys are a large tire ball with a huge jingle bell inside and a pink equine ball that is about 10 inches across with a handle. She grabs the handle and carries it around, occasionally dropping it and then picking it up again. She also has a few oversize tennis balls with squeakers she carries. Balls are her thing. She only plays with toys and plushies at my parent’s house with her “sister from another mother” Dolly.

23 degrees here so I have the deck door open and I don’t have to play doorman for Sadie going in and out.

In her puppy days I used to sit at the top of my split level stairs and toss a ball down. Sadie would wear herself out retrieving. Those were the days. Now I struggle getting her down the stairs to go for a walk.

Daffodils are my favorite. I might have to look in the store for some.

HOHs, thank you for the flower picture. Very cold here for the next week so it was fun to see a little spring.

Mluippa! You sound very energetic! Good luck with the garden.

Crime!…And Cawffee! and Booze!…snort!…Last night we were watching the show with our favorite author attending…snorkel!…There came a question about whether the pandemic would affect how the writers go about writing their upcoming novels…wheeze!…My friend and I immediately thought “NO WAY IN HELL!!”…and then we hoped and hoped Spencer would think the same way…gurgle!…My friend was actually waving her arms around in a NO WAY fashion before he answered. He was First on the spot. Much to our gratitude and relief he said he would not write about the pandemic because he has absolutely nothing good to say about it….YIPPPEEEE!!!…We here approve wholeheartedly. We read Chet n’ Bernie “fiction” to get away from our real life horrors…Bless you Spencer! I hope you stick to yer guns…snorkel!
