Eddie, Another BSD type. Those guys are really smart and focused. Eddie deserves to sit back and enjoy life. Job well done!
8:03 am on April 12th, 2014
Ditto to what Maggie said. Job well done, Eddie.
8:17 am on April 12th, 2014
Good morning Howlers. How is Fern liking her new home?
Great narrative from AJ last night. Thrilling and scary.
Good positive thoughts going out to Mary Lou today.
8:21 am on April 12th, 2014
Good Morning, everyone! Double ditto to Eddie! Love today’s foto. And DDD and mom shared AJ’s second installment with us. Sheesh! ML,be strong and grab 2 young lookers to escort you 🙂
Have a swinging Saturday.
8:41 am on April 12th, 2014
Excellent job Eddie. I hope he gets lots of peanut butter and banana cake now.
Good morning all.
9:13 am on April 12th, 2014
My sickie from Austin got here after one this a.m. She has been in the shower since I got up, so no report on how she is feeling.
HOH this is for you. “I stayed up all night to see where the sun went. Then it dawned on me”
Today is going to be beautiful, with lovely tributes to a wonderful man and I expect to be told MANY times how special he was. Everyone this week seems to have a Rick story. Thank you all for being with us in spirit today. The Fire Department procession leaves the funeral home at 10 CDT and the service at the church begins at 11.
I probably should wear something other than my nightie, so I will BBL
Love you all.
9:22 am on April 12th, 2014
AJ: Thank you for part two. It sounds both exciting and scary, especially the roller coaster ride sliding down ice. Yikes!
9:25 am on April 12th, 2014
Marylou, We will be with you today.
9:33 am on April 12th, 2014
ML, You found my page of puns 🙂 This morning I tried to catch a cloud. I mist.
9:46 am on April 12th, 2014
Well deserved kudos for Eddie.
Fred! The Turtle! Welcome to you and your good looking escort.
ML and family: We are all here for you.
I have to go read AJ’s post from last night.
9:48 am on April 12th, 2014
Loving thoughts to ML and family today.
What wonderful news from GLAD. Smiles abound.
I am so happy that the Storyteller is back home.
What a riveting account from AJ about the race! He has the skill to place his readers right on the trail with him and the dogs. Awesome.
Hope everyone has a good day and that Rio gets to accompany his friend to their old home.
10:05 am on April 12th, 2014
Eddie, a Well Deserved Retirement.
AJ: Great Part II of your 2014 Iditarod Narrative. Believe me when I say we were right there with you. Looking forward to the next installment.
Macy’s Mom: Sending Love & Plunderer Support on this difficult day.
10:16 am on April 12th, 2014
ML, You will knock ’em dead! Be yourself, be good, be ?????
11:43 am on April 12th, 2014
Howdy Bee 🙂

12:20 pm on April 12th, 2014
Eddie, You are a hero. Thank you. May you have a wonderful retirement.
C.Hobbit, I am too late, but the next burn…get that hand into cold water immediately. It stops the burn from going deeper into the tissue and helps with the pain
Kat, the cartoon Huskies you posted yesterday is very funny.
12:22 pm on April 12th, 2014
ML It is going to be a very nice service for Rick. I just know it. Our prayers are with you and the girls today.
12:39 pm on April 12th, 2014
AJ, Thank you for part 2. Rio Jr. must be quite a character…lots of spirit.
Once again I was holding my breath as I read it and my ribs started hurting. That was brutal.
(whispering) I might have thrown up my paws in defeat and scratched.
12:41 pm on April 12th, 2014
Macy’s Mom–Also thinking of you out here in CA. I’ll assume the pun was due to stress.
HOH–Ditto the pun comment, but the following is also a groaner:

1:34 pm on April 12th, 2014
Siber-H; I did put my hand under cold water immediately. I used cold gel packs all night. I also remembered that I had some gel that contains silver that I’ve used for healing skin scraps, etc so I applied some of that. This morning the burn is still pink but much less pain and no blisters.
ML: With you and your family today. Remember…cry if you need to, be tough if you have to. Feel our love surrounding you and your family
1:48 pm on April 12th, 2014
C.Hobbit, You did the right thing then. I am glad there are no blisters.
1:50 pm on April 12th, 2014
Lots of Springtime work going on around here today. It is warm warm warm here.
We cannot imagine what ML is going thru. Dog bless her and Nicki and Angie.
2:16 pm on April 12th, 2014
Howlers: I like it. There, their and they’re are problems for some also. And try explaining the difference between a and the to ESL students….or then and than.
2:27 pm on April 12th, 2014
And another annoyance is people that think you have to use an ‘ anytime you are using a plural, such as family’s instead families. Barb got a note from her Crazy Lady boss every week when she was doing ads: Please send Photo’s. Hiss and boo!
2:57 pm on April 12th, 2014
B and M–I got an “A” in a semiotics class with a brief paper about misused apostrophes. (I’m glad I’m not alone in this–sometimes I really do wonder…)
2:58 pm on April 12th, 2014
C. Hobbitt–I had heard about the silver remedy but never tried it. I hope I never do need to, but I appreciate having your testimony to its effectiveness.
2:59 pm on April 12th, 2014
C. Hobbit–And soon I will be spelling your name correctly…
4:21 pm on April 12th, 2014
Finally – at long last, today was a sunny, blue sky day. It was glorious. We all sat out on the deck, stretched out in the sun. We loved it, especially since it is supposed to rain for the next 4 days.
The Storyteller says thanks for all your good thoughts. He is doing well and he enjoyed being out in the sun too. We think it was just too long of a winter.
And the phoebes are building their nest of Callie fur again. Yippee – spring is actually going to get here.
4:47 pm on April 12th, 2014
T&G: We have, er, procurred a couple of wheelchairs for some more races with the StoryTeller. We can race after our nap. Napping in the sun is the best.
We are keeping ML and the girls in our hearts and minds today.
5:04 pm on April 12th, 2014
Semantics aside….u krak me up!
5:20 pm on April 12th, 2014
Mary Lou, you are in our thoughts too 🙂 Be safe. Love y’all. I know a guy who is addicted to brake fluid . He says he can stop any time 🙂
5:37 pm on April 12th, 2014
Ugh!…We are all finally home from my other house…wheeze!…Someone here is walking bent-over and it’s not her mother…snort!…She says she was bent over digging out grout in the kitchen and then bent over mopping floors and bent over painting wood work and bent over picking up stuff. So now she can’t straighten up quite right…grunt!groan!
Flipit!…Heh!…When we got home there was a package for us. It is an awesome birthday card flipit style!….chuffle!…It is so cool how lots of you signed it and some even put their stamp on it…heh!heh!…My friend thinks it is very awesome and she told me to thank all of youse who signed it…snorkel!…Except for Alice, I am not thanking Alice…sneeze!
5:46 pm on April 12th, 2014
Rio: Did you supervise while your friend worked, worked, worked or did you stay home today?
6:07 pm on April 12th, 2014
Supervised!…snort!…In front, behind and in-between her and what she needed to do at all times…chuffle!
Race!…I just finished reading Part Two of The Giants story and boy oh boy what a great narrative!…snort!snort!…Can’t wait for the final installment!…Wooooo!
Howlers!…Your Maw is now my hero….heh!heh!….That fact that she stood up to Dallas Seavey for the last beer is amazing stuff!…snort!
6:10 pm on April 12th, 2014
Happy Birthday Rio.
6:13 pm on April 12th, 2014
Stover!….It is not my birthday yet;…snorkel!…But I will take all the nice wishes I can get…heh!
6:16 pm on April 12th, 2014
Rio: It’s a good thing you are there to supervise. There is no telling what two-leggeds will get themselves into without proper supervision from our kind. Take the the Giant for example. Without Tenzing or Luna keeping a close eye on his dietary needs, he would never know that he should share the what’s-left-at-the-bottom of his vanilla ice cream bowl.
6:30 pm on April 12th, 2014
Diet!…The Giants diet sounds Delish!…snort!snort!…Between all the candy bars, ice cream and frozen sodas, he is in dietary bliss…chuffle!
6:37 pm on April 12th, 2014
SiberH!….Rex Brothers is killing us right now….wheeze!gasp!…GAH!
6:39 pm on April 12th, 2014
Rio: All he is missing is fish heads and a bite of lard. Delish!
6:41 pm on April 12th, 2014
OMYDAWG!….He got out of the inning without the Giants scoring 3 runs. The bases were loaded, you know….gasp!….Rockies are ahead by one ta nuthin’ ….snort!…Ninth inning coming up – we need some runs and BAD…gruffle!
6:42 pm on April 12th, 2014
Lard!…snort!…I do not believe I have had the unique opportunity to eat Lard…heh!heh!…Although, I have been called a lard-ass before…sniff!
6:53 pm on April 12th, 2014
Test…We’ve tried posting twice and nada. Not even a message saying we are being moderated.
6:55 pm on April 12th, 2014
WIN!…WOOOOOOO!….The Rockies beat those Giants by ONE run…heh!heh!….Damn Good Job!…snort!…Those Giants are nuthin’ to sneeze at!…cough!
6:59 pm on April 12th, 2014
Supper!…Now someone who is bent-over has to go make supper….snort!…Someone else over-did it today and is in bed. My friend tried to tell her not to do so much but did she listen? NO…grunt!….Now mother is paying for it…wuffle!…Back later after good eats!
7:07 pm on April 12th, 2014
Hmmm. Looks like the Turtleman is enjoying his Chet and Bernie reading marathon. That is his (female) turtle Fred up top. Fred laid an egg and hatched a baby so that is how he discovered Fred was a her.
7:19 pm on April 12th, 2014
What the man who lives in our house did today:

7:24 pm on April 12th, 2014
Wowser! Wish someone here had that much energy!
7:37 pm on April 12th, 2014
Rio et al, hope this gets posted to see if all y’all are with us.
7:42 pm on April 12th, 2014
Rio? The Rockies only lost to the Giants yesterday by one run. Is this correct?
7:45 pm on April 12th, 2014
I had two beautiful days in the sunshine and pool while looking at the snowy ski trails. Just heavenly. I met up with Jay and Tyb and my goodness that Tyb is busy as usual with his charities. Good dog!

7:50 pm on April 12th, 2014
Tyb, you always hit the nail on the head!
8:27 pm on April 12th, 2014
The service today was everything we wanted it to be. There were at least three photographers, so I hope to see some great shots.
First we met at the funeral home, where the fire dept trucks were all waiting, along with the Patriot Guard Riders, a motorcycle honor guard. Then this.

8:34 pm on April 12th, 2014
Next, a member of the Fire Dept honor guard carried the flag case containing Rick’s remains to the engine.

It is much larger than I imagined and will not sit inconspicuously on the mantle.
Once they had Rick on the engine, we began the procession. I was in Rick’s blue truck with Rick’s Knife Shop across the back window. I think many people pulled over because of a fire engine with its lights only to realize that there was quite a line behind it, and that was only family, plus the rest of the fire vehicles. When we got to the freeway overpass, some people were trying to hang a large flag over the side, but high winds were giving them trouble. People further back reported that it eventually got done.
8:35 pm on April 12th, 2014
That is amazing Marylou. What an honor!
8:42 pm on April 12th, 2014
Besides being an “urn”, the flag case contains the flag that was flying over the station the day Rick died, plus his badges from Firefighter to Ass’t Chief.
The honor guard reassembled at our church and we followed them in until they got to the sanctuary. The family, upwards of 50, went into a classroom to wait for the service.
8:45 pm on April 12th, 2014
The Honor Guard stood at the front of the church until the service began.
Pictures were taken during the service, but not by me. It was everything we wanted. Once I figure out how, I will post the bulletin.
8:46 pm on April 12th, 2014
Staff!…I was going to ask if you were related to that there Turtle…heh!heh!…And you are!…woooo!
8:49 pm on April 12th, 2014
Ceremony!….It looks like amazing honor was paid to Macy’s Paw today…wheeze!…What a very great thing….sniffle!
8:50 pm on April 12th, 2014
MaryLou – it sounds like it was a very fitting tribute to an honorable and good man. We are very happy for you that the service was all you wanted it to be.
Hugs to you and your girls.
8:51 pm on April 12th, 2014
The flag that was flying over the station the day Rick died – outstanding! What a huge ceremony to celebrate Rick’s life. He deserved it. You must be so proud.
8:52 pm on April 12th, 2014
These are the flowers sent by the department. I did not get a picture of the ones that we ordered, but I will pick them up at the church tomorrow. They were so pretty, bird-of-paradise, daisies, yellow roses and more. Just perfect.
Tomorrow we are going to take the FD flowers out to my dad’s grave. He was so proud to have a firefighter son-in-law.

(and that is my Niki to the right) 4 was Rick’s ID number. He was the third person hired by the department, in 1975.
8:54 pm on April 12th, 2014
ML, an honorable service for an honorable man. Love him/can”t live with him…We only bury saints. You take care of YOU!
9:06 pm on April 12th, 2014
ML, what a wondrous and fitting tribute to Rick. We are happy that it was such a fine sendoff. You must be exhausted. How long will your girls be with you?
9:15 pm on April 12th, 2014
ML: What great honors shown to your firefighter! I think the flag case/urn/medal case is wonderful. Impressive pictures of the ceremony.
LizF: Happy Birthday! I’m going through some old papers and it is written that the 12th is your birthday, although I think it is already the 13th in Oz. Hope your Ruby is tip-top!
(whispering) Rio’s birthday is the 15th.
9:21 pm on April 12th, 2014
Dawson: are you sure on all the b-days? hippo hippo to all birdies! Oh, birthdays!
9:21 pm on April 12th, 2014
Dawson!…Snort!…Tax Day…grunt!…I can’t believe that Liz has a birthday almost the same as me!…wuffle!…Now we know 5 guys who have birthdays on 12, 14, 15, and 16th of April – I just need to find a 13th guy…sneeze!
9:24 pm on April 12th, 2014
ML: A very special goodbye to a very special man. I know you and the girls are very proud.
9:30 pm on April 12th, 2014
What a beautiful ceremony and what a special tribute. And the flowers from the department are beautiful.
9:32 pm on April 12th, 2014
Great fotos of a wonderful send-off!
9:33 pm on April 12th, 2014
ML we here are very impressed with the ceremony for your dear husband. It is so nice to have that kind of validation of his life. Hope you are not too tired and your feet are not too sore.
Hugs from Alice and Abbie too.
9:34 pm on April 12th, 2014
Liz: Is it really your Birthday? Happy Happy Birthday!!!
As Dawson says, a day late, but the wishes are sincere.
Macy’s Mom: Thank you for the Photos of the Ceremony. Hugs to you and your girls.
9:49 pm on April 12th, 2014
HOH: I’m not sure about anything! Sometimes I make things up out of whole cloth.
9:55 pm on April 12th, 2014
🙂
10:15 pm on April 12th, 2014
Dawson!…What? You make things up?…heh!..Not me, I never make things up and act like they are true…snort!…Just ask my friend. Well maybe never ever ask my friend….chorkel!
10:32 pm on April 12th, 2014
FlipIt!…That is a great type of card, we here just love it!…snorkel!…There is some paw-writing I cannot decipher, but it does not matter – its the thought that counts….heh!heh!…I bet a bunch of youse are lefties!
11:03 pm on April 12th, 2014
Alone!…Since I am alone, everyone here is asleep too, I just wanted to put paw to keyboard and say how amazing our Giant is. The race he and the A-Team went through this year is nothing but incredible and I for one am beyond impressed with Our Team and their ability to over-come major obstacles…wheeze!…It is almost super-human the way The Giant survived the whole race. Junior was help and no-help during this quest…sniff!…Hopefully he will find a full-time girlfriend and quiet down for pities sake…grunt!.. The thing is, I am very proud of The Giant and The A-Team and what they accomplished in The Last Big Race this year. I cannot believe I am so lucky to know these guys. They are my heroes and I am very proud to know all of them. One day hopefully my friend will meet them in paw and person…heh!!
11:15 pm on April 12th, 2014
ML, Thank you for sharing the pictures with us. It was beautiful…a true tribute for Rick and a honor for all of you.
night all
11:16 pm on April 12th, 2014
Thank you for all the kind words and more. I hope you will indulge me a little more as I get other pictures in. It was just such a magical day. In answer to the question of how long my girls will be here, Angie lives here and Niki is still much too sick to go home, kind of a mixed blessing. When she went to the ER they scanned her with a Kat, which was clear, but her head is still very painful. The strangest thing is that she has a black eye in the corner next to her nose. Nose is fine, it just looks like a big multi-colored mascara smudge. She just headed off to bed with a bag of ice on her head. Hoping tomorrow will be better.
11:56 pm on April 12th, 2014
Liz: good day and happy b-day to you.
ML: happy that the day exceeded expectations…such a source of comfort for you and your family.
Good day to everyone else
12:01 am on April 13th, 2014
Riö: We here are in total agreement. The Giant is our hero and so are Rebecca and the team. It is unbelievable what they have accomplished. We are proud to call them friends.
ML, You and your girls take some time to rest and regain your strength. You have been through a lot this past month and have handled it with courage and love.
1:42 am on April 13th, 2014
MaryLou, I’m glad the day went well and Rick was honored by the dept that he dedicated so many years to. Try to relax and enjoy having your girls close.
Macy, take care of your mom. Hopefully, you are now feeling tip top.
AJ’s story last night was hair raising ! We are very proud to be associated with the Snowhook team!
