E-Story Two
“How about we do the Teitelbaum divorce?” Spence says. “It was one of Chet and Bernie’s first cases together.”
“Don’t see why not,” says Admin. “You get cracking and I’ll take a little nap. Wasn’t that how we divided it up for A Cat Was Involved?”

Hurray! The Teitelbaum Divorce! Can’t wait. When can we expect to have it available?
Chet, did you leave Communicado? Is your Cape house o.k.?

Here is our own e-story about how Kat became one of the Howlers. (So, okay, we stole it).

heh heh! Great video. Which of you is that, and did Grampa have to shovel that trail first?
We are so glad you are not one of the 650,000 homes without power, T&G.

Teitelbaum!…Heh!snort!heh!…This is going to be good!…snort!

Little late with this but we want to donate $20 to Feed the Giant and $20 to help sponsor Jem! Official emails to follow to OHs and Rio. PayPal to Rebecca this afternoon.
A little bit cooler here today but we think winter is over in southeast Texas.
When will that estory be ready?? Inquiring minds want to know!
11:09 am on February 9th, 2013
***************** ANNOUNCEMENT ******************
Jem sponsorship is Open For Business. Ole Blue Eyes is already at 8%. Wooo!!!
Jem reminds us of a cross between Sinatra and Durante. heh heh!
11:11 am on February 9th, 2013
Hah! 8% was before we saw G&BB’s post….will have to re-calibrate or something.
11:16 am on February 9th, 2013
T.C. just made off with the credit card, while I held Mom down on her lap.
Why? We just realized we are not even mentioned in Snowhook’s list of sponsors. So the next Jem donation is coming from us!
11:21 am on February 9th, 2013
Yeah, and we want to be listed ahead of those worthless Howlers in the credits when the movie comes out.
11:25 am on February 9th, 2013
What a morning! 22 to 24 inches of snow, depending on which side of the house you are on. The dog door was unusable as was the human door next to it. I HAD to get Ellie out. When you are 13 1/2 years old it is important to GOOOOOO when you need to. I put her out the dining room door. She sunk.
I grabbed the snow shovel and shoveled a path for her to get to the back deck. Then I shoveled the deck so the doors are usable. This took a while. Ellie barked for me to hurry up and the other members of the Pack helped by always being where I wanted to shovel. Finally got it done.
Have to go get Ellie and hold her tail up so her back legs would work. Got her in. Dogs pilled and then fed, cleaned the kitchen, ate some breakfast.
I’m now going to take a nap. Corgis in the snow are adorable.
11:29 am on February 9th, 2013
Youse were up late last night.
Jem…Gem to us…will soon be off and running.
Look at that Smile!
O’Howlers: Reading about Rob Cooke…he bought a Zoo? Could he be the inspiration behind the movie?
Funny off the lease cartoon…Dog De Niro & Barking Scorsese…Smirk.
Melanie: Sorry to hear of the roof damage to your friend’s house.
Storm reports are coming in…wonder how Terry is doing.
Royal(s) in the snow!
11:39 am on February 9th, 2013
Looks like Alaska is getting some snow!
11:47 am on February 9th, 2013
Greetings!
Hope that the storm did not do too much damage, and that everyone still has power. Sorry to hear about your friend’s house, Melanie. My estimate is that we have about a foot of snow here in Croton on Huudson. The fir trees (maybe evergreens) look very pretty with the snow cover.
Prof and I watched a great film- noir lat night, The Strange Love of Martha Ivers, with Van Heflin, and Barbara Stanwyck. This was The first film for Kirk Douglas.
Two thumbs up! Siber-H hung around to do some civil engineering with the Prof, then he and my dear friend Masquers, blurred into the sun. It was nice to have you both as guests.
Eighteen days and counting…..
11:48 am on February 9th, 2013
OMD! We forgot that Terry must have been in the worst part of that storm!
We had very little snow here. What there is is very hard and frozen. The wind chills are excruciating. Poor horses had to be put out. The REDs don’t even want out today. We can’t begin to imagine how cold and snowy for all of youse guys northeast of us. Take care. Wait it out if you can. It is supposed to be much warmer tomorrow.
11:49 am on February 9th, 2013
Wow! Masquers and Siber-H must have blurred at Siber speed. Siber-H is up top with his toys.
11:50 am on February 9th, 2013
Melanie, when you get up Dilbert has something to say about the power posing today. snicker

Off to read about Rob Cooke

E-story two! Wonderful!
I ran errands and went through one of our parkways. The sun on the snow is beautiful but I didn’t have my camera. Tomorrow it’s supposed to rain.
Found a biography of Richard the Third that I forgot I had. It’s by Paul Murray Kendall. The cover has the portrait of Richard putting the ring on his finger.
Good almost afternoon all.
12:02 pm on February 9th, 2013
Wolfie: I’m going to send you a card with the picture I was describing in the poem Rio used for the third prize quilling project.
12:08 pm on February 9th, 2013
I really hated to leave Rose and the Prof. I am coming home to sun and a sandstorm this afternoon. Mom will make me stay inside.
We have heard from everyone but Terry, and I think he lives in an area that got hit pretty hard.
Barb returns home today!!!
Off to read about Rob Cooke.
12:19 pm on February 9th, 2013
Since the first e-story was released in August and the book in September, maybe the second e-story will follow the same schedule.
12:51 pm on February 9th, 2013
Siber-H, I miss you already!
12:52 pm on February 9th, 2013
Snowed in!
My thoughts are with all those who are in the path of the storm. Hunker down and read a good book and if you have to shovel snow, do it a little at a time.
E-book in August!
Way too far away. I think the e-book could be ready tomorrow or the next day.
All this heavy thinking has me a bit fatiqued. Naptime is nigh.
12:53 pm on February 9th, 2013
Wolfie, congrats!!
12:53 pm on February 9th, 2013
Me too, Wose, I miss you. I’d ask you to come visit me, but who in their right mind wants to get sandblasted.
12:59 pm on February 9th, 2013
Bella – there’s a package at the Willow P.O. for you when you have time for a pickup.
I’m glad everyone’s okay after the storm and hope to hear that Terry and all and OFA’s home are okay too.
Siber-H – I have a question about Rob Cooke’s statement that he thinks the YQ is a tougher race than the Iditarod. True? I think it’s terrific that he’s following his dream but I think the Iditarod is plenty tough! I understand why it might be better for his Siberians – is it the altitude that’s harder?
1:05 pm on February 9th, 2013
Bluecat, we have heard that the Quest is even harder than the Iditarod, but we will let Siber-H tell us his thoughts. But we are curious why Rob Cooke says it is better for Sibes? Why would that be?
1:11 pm on February 9th, 2013
Whew – its been a tough morning of supervising all the shoveling and brushing and snow-blowing.
That video was (of course) Silly Gilly. I am MUCH to dignified to go bouncing around in the snow. I wait until a path is shoveled for my little Royal feet.
And the dam street snowplow took down our mailbox AGAIN!!! Every single snowstorm for the past three years. Every time. And no one else on the street ever gets hit.
We think its a conspiracy against Corgis!
1:32 pm on February 9th, 2013
I’ll try to answer the question: Yes, I think the Yukon Quest is tougher than the Iditarod, but the Iditarod is not for the faint of heart either. The Quest has several tough summits that must be climbed. There is nothing like American or Eagle Summits on the Iditarod trail. A person would have trouble just hiking to the top of these summits unless they were very fit. Also, I think the overflow problems may be even worse on the Quest Trail than the Iditarod Trail. A third reason is that there are fewer checkpoints on the Quest Trail than the Iditarod Trail.
People do bike the Iditarod Trail but I have never heard of anyone doing it on the Yukon Quest Trail.
My guess as to why Rob Cooke said that about his Siberians in the Yukon Quest is that we may not be as fast as the Alaskan Huskies, but we are a tougher dog and our feet are tougher than theirs.
I am only repeating what I have read Siberian long distance dog mushers say about the breed.
1:41 pm on February 9th, 2013
Also, Maybe Rob Cooke was thinking about what Mike Ellis and his team of Siberians have accomplished in the Quest. They did better than Siberian teams in the Iditarod have done.
1:55 pm on February 9th, 2013
Late to the blog this morning…slept in after the East Coast trip. The snow was very pretty in Croton on Hudson…Siber and I enjoyed our visit with Rose and the Prof very much.
Staff: Yoga Kat…very funny.
Loved your “looking for the door to summer” sentiment from last evening.
Terry mentioned buying a snow blower in preparation for the storm. Hope his power didn’t go out as he feared.
Rob Cooke seems to be holding his own.
2:20 pm on February 9th, 2013
When she was out doing dog chores this morning, my Two-Legged informed Jem this morning that his sponsorship is open for busines. He tackled her to celebrate! She is tired so she almost ended up on the ground. She stayed up until the wee hours and got all but 200 booties powdered, sorted and packaged. She hopes to finish reparing dog jackets and harnesses today when she gets back from town. She is going to pick up some meals for AJ, vacuum seal them and put them in the freezer. Her hair is pointing is curly and pointing in every which direction and she has dark circles under her eyes. I think I’ll take nap to make her feel better.
2:22 pm on February 9th, 2013
I shouldn’t let Belle Starr post when I’m tired. She makes so many typos.
2:33 pm on February 9th, 2013
Hang in there SnowBella. Heard from Terry on Facebook. He is okay and has power. My friend has no power and a tree on her house. At least it’s just the top branches and not the trunk.
Our neighbor arrived and snow blowed our two driveways and across the front. Then my sister and her son arrived and they are digging out the cars and the ramp. Now if I have to take Zoë any where I can. The Pack are chewing frozen marrow bones. They are happy. My nap was for an hour. Heaven.
Here’s our Knight in Orange Armor . .

Oley – actually we got off pretty good – there was about a foot of pretty dense snow on our lawn. Miraculously, I managed to go to an electronic store web site and buy an electric snow blower on Thursday, and that made a huge difference. It came with two pages of safety instructions – wonderful things like “Don’t stick your hand in the chute when the blade is running,” or “How not to get electrocuted, and notifying next of kin if you do.” I was a little nervous, but it worked just fine. Afterwards, I made bloody marys and we went to the basement to see the Lion King on Blu_ray on our new 50 inch set. The people at Netflix think I’m going through a second childhood.

5:10 pm on February 9th, 2013
Good Od, that looks just like a hurricane.
Rio, count me in on $15 for Feed The Giant. I’ll go over and pay now.
5:11 pm on February 9th, 2013
ATTENTION PLEASE: We are EXTREMELY close to having a fourth prize winner for the Feed the Giant Fund. Keep your donations coming in.
Rio will be posting pictures of the third and fourth prizes as soon as the finishing touches are done. As I’ve done with the first three prizes, I’ll send the winner of the fourth prize a card with the picture that I was describing in the poem.
Go Snowhook!
5:13 pm on February 9th, 2013
Terry: We see Yuji’s getting a lift.
Heh. the bloody marys saved the day!

5:22 pm on February 9th, 2013
All paid to Feed The Giant.
Terry, how do you get in touch with your next of kin if you have been electrocuted? Glad you are safe.
5:25 pm on February 9th, 2013
I’m laughing. I was going to ask Terry the same question Melanie asked.
5:26 pm on February 9th, 2013
Siber-H – thanks for the YQ info. I still shudder when I remember the ice big-as-houses from last year. All the mushers and teams are brave and heroes to me.
Staff – very fun video of the cute doggies who love to run fast. Thanks.
Stay warm and safe, Everybody.
5:26 pm on February 9th, 2013
Bear!….Arrrgh!…Check your SDD…sniff!
5:33 pm on February 9th, 2013
Blast! I just realized that I haven’t sent my check for the patches to Snowhook. I’ll send it on Monday Rebecca.
I’m having a delightful glass of Alambrado Malbec…and I’m not even snow-bound.
5:37 pm on February 9th, 2013
Back in after more shoveling. Everything is pretty much cleared. We have lots of huge, pine trees in the back yard. Their branches are loaded with snow. Fortunately, it is light, fluffy powder, so the branches aren’t breaking. UN-fortunately, there is a lot of wind, so every time we got the deck and back patio cleared, the wind would knock a ton of snow off the branches back onto the deck, and would pile up outside the back door. So – back out to clear it all again.
Bee – yes, that really is Gilly. She in one of the happiest Corgis we have ever met. When Bella was visiting, Gilly made her laugh with how fast that little bitty tail can go. Bella said that if it was a full size tail, Gilly could be jet propelled.
5:42 pm on February 9th, 2013
Maybe a little hyperbole going down with my bloody mary. Another favorite was about not letting domestic animals get near your work. Does this mean that farm animals and circus animals are okay?
5:46 pm on February 9th, 2013
Mom has heard from our cousins. The one in Boston got 21.7″ but he didn’t lose power. His brother in the burbs did lose power, so they are all together now. The one in Boston got frostbite in his fingers while shoveling, even though he had gloves on. Yikes!
The rents are meeting friends for dinner at a place nearby. This is unusual for Mom to go out when it’s this cold, but she said she is missing those guys.
5:47 pm on February 9th, 2013
I’m hoping that part of this snowfall turns to ice. I want a video of Gilly sliding down the hill, coming inside and up the stairs to do it again!
5:48 pm on February 9th, 2013
Terry, Glad you and Yuji are o.k. We don’t understand the hyperbole statement tho.
5:55 pm on February 9th, 2013
Terry: In a course called “Technical Writing” I used to teach how to write user manuals. I think those instructions need to be rewritten! Whoever wrote those would have failed my course.
5:58 pm on February 9th, 2013
Good afternoon everyone! Home at last!
Kelly picked up Barb at the rehab at 10:00, stoped by the drug store and McD’s for coffee. Then they came home, and let me tell you, I was mighty glad to see her! Lots of tail wagging and whinning (by me,not Barb) then Kelly helped her put stuff away and start a load of laundry. Next it waas vacuum and dusting time and then finally lunch. By 2:00 Barb needed a nap, and Kelly headed for home. Things are running smoothly here. Delivered a knee machine this afternoon. It takes up half the bed and bends and straightens Barb’s knee. She is supposed to go in it 3 times a day. Boring!
Josh is stopping over in a minute, then chill time for the evening.
We are glad to be back and will start posting more tomorrow. Missed youse guys!
5:58 pm on February 9th, 2013
Melanie, a nor’easter is the same thing as a hurricane, except it is a winter storm.
6:01 pm on February 9th, 2013
Happy Day, Maggie! Glad to hear.
And speaking of rehabbers, how is Zoe?
6:03 pm on February 9th, 2013
Welcome back Barb and Maggie!!!
6:04 pm on February 9th, 2013
Home!…Barb’s finally home…snort!snort!…I bet she doesn’t get in that leg machine 3 times a day…heh!heh!
6:07 pm on February 9th, 2013
A suggestion: Mittens should be worn in this weather rather than gloves, especially when shoveling snow. Keeping the fingers touching keeps them warm.
6:15 pm on February 9th, 2013
The hyperbole was about turning around their actually sensible statements about not being electrocuted and mining it for a cheap laugh. The amazing news out of all finding Nemo is that the weathermen were talking about hurricane force winds, and that never happened. We had four trees when we bought this house – lost one with Irene and one with Sandy. Hurricane force winds predictions get our attention.
6:19 pm on February 9th, 2013
Oh, Mac told me hyperbole was a ver active rodent.
6:22 pm on February 9th, 2013
Hyperbowl!…I thought that was when Beau spins out of control through the kitchen and his food bowl goes airborn during a Kat-Watch alert…snort!…
6:23 pm on February 9th, 2013
Welcome back Barb! Zoe says to keep up the PT because a friend of hers didn’t and now has to start over.
B.Stover, what can I say? Great minds think alike.
6:27 pm on February 9th, 2013
Supper!….Yipppeee!…It’s one of those days when her mother gets her time screwed up and makes supper at 4:30…heh!heh!….You got to love that!
6:34 pm on February 9th, 2013
It’s good to have you back Barb. We missed you as well.
6:40 pm on February 9th, 2013
Rio, That is a pretty good bet! Home health starts tomorrow or Monday, and we know p.t. is important, but there are mixed reviews on how much the knee machine helps long term. Barb said she needs a day of rest and then will look at that machine tomorrow. Barb was supposed to us it 6 hours a day at trehab, and the gal in the next room was at 2 hours.
6:41 pm on February 9th, 2013
Welcome home, Barb! We bet Maggie was over the top excited!
6:46 pm on February 9th, 2013
Barb!…Just do it while you read a book…sniff!…It might work wonders…wuffle!
7:12 pm on February 9th, 2013
I love the word “hyperbole.” Here’s an example given in the Encylopedia Britannica regarding Portia in Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice: “Why if two gods should play some heavenly match/ And on the wager lay two heavenly women/ And Portia be one, there must be something else/ Pawned with the other, for the poor rude world/ Hath not her fellow.”
7:15 pm on February 9th, 2013
Portia is one of my favorite characters in Shakespeare.
7:16 pm on February 9th, 2013
Barb: Please follow Rio’s advice about the knee machine and reading a book.
7:24 pm on February 9th, 2013
Bee – one word. HUH???
Barb- WELCOME HOME!!!! We did miss you. And you better use that knee machine there missy. You have to make your knee as young and strong as the rest of you.
Melanie – if there is ice, we will get video. And by the way- did you hear the weather report tonight? We are supposed to get an ice storm on Monday. Here we go again.
7:28 pm on February 9th, 2013
Barb, welcome home! Missed you and Maggie on this here blog. Rio’s advice is good. Prof is still doing PT on his wrist, and he does admit doing it is a pain, but it has helped him get his flexibility almost back to normal.
7:28 pm on February 9th, 2013
O’Howlers: We love this one: “It was so cold I saw Polar Bears wearing jackets.”
Terry: You mean those weren’t Actual Instructions? Sheesh. You had us going there.
Woooo!!! Barb&Magpie are HOME!
7:33 pm on February 9th, 2013
T&G: You’ll have to explain the “HUH?” (Really….What are you asking?)
7:41 pm on February 9th, 2013

Oh, oh…I see someone has been borrowing from my treat jar. He says it is only a loan. I’ve heard that one before.

8:02 pm on February 9th, 2013
Riö: What? I don’t see any new messages flashing on my SDD. When did you send it?
8:03 pm on February 9th, 2013
I picked up AJ’s food from town and have vacuumed sealed the meals. Jodi, the person not the puppy was a huge help and picked up clementines in Anchorage yesterday. Let the peeling begin!
Care packages from Team Feed the Giant! Our P.O. Box runneth over. Thanks for those of you who have sent astornaut ice cream, cookies, candy bars, and all manner of things for AJ to enjoy on the trail. And, er, thanks to Staff who sent Nut Rolls. They aren’t AJ’s treat of choice, but they have served as breakfast, lunch and dinner of late, like last night for instance when I was surrounded by dog booties and covered in powder. Thanks to each of you!
AJ had to work until late last night and left for work early this morning. I’d like to finish sorting an packing the booties and peeling clementines before he gets home. I better get to it.
8:12 pm on February 9th, 2013
BStover: What does “hath not her fellow” mean?
Barb&Maggie: Ahhhh…home. Welcome back and do your rehab!

Hey! Where’s my SDD?
8:43 pm on February 9th, 2013
Y’all keep bad mouthing Person of Interest. Mom and Dad have really liked that show since it started last year. Now Thursday night is a treat with that show and then Elementary. AND the next day is Friday….what could be better!

Before I forget, welcome back, Barb.
Smoochers: I believe Luna will be rallying the troops soon to make sure a certain someone does that one thing three times a day.
8:54 pm on February 9th, 2013
Gus&BooBear: Actually we aren’t disliking the show. What’s not to like with a Belgian Malinois named Bear in a starring role? Heh. Just don’t really understand the concept since we haven’t watched it from the very beginning. Maybe youse could explain?
9:01 pm on February 9th, 2013

T&g, we doubt that your mom watches Project Runway,so we wanted to let her know about our leading contestant. She is a native lady from NM, and is no spring chicken, but she is designing the pants off some of those youngsters. She is also very artistic, just like you-know- who.
Welcome home Barb. Did you really vacuum first thing?

9:20 pm on February 9th, 2013
Dawson: “Fellow” in that line means “equal.” In other words, there is no woman in the world to match Portia…an example of exaggeration or hyperbole.

Wow and Yippee!
I won a coveted collaboration by BStover and Rio’s friend and helped feed the giant musher to boot. It doesn’t get any better than this.
BStover: That is what I thought it meant…
9:47 pm on February 9th, 2013
Dawson!…You are right! It doesn’t get any better than this!…snort!…Helping your team get to the amazing Iditarod. Being part of it! Really knowing that because of the support we’ve given to Snowhook, the road to the race has been just a little smoother than when they first ventured onto that path….chuffle!

Barb and Maggie, glad you two are back together. Now Maggie, make sure she does her exercises OK?
YAY feed the giant. Uh Rebecca, the Salted Nut Rolls were for YOU YOU YOU. We figured it would be a break from the Cheese Cake. AJ can have a few if he wants.
10:07 pm on February 9th, 2013
We were just looking at the Snowhook blog/website and it shows 3 checkpoints not sponsored. We did get all of that done, right? And Rebecca has just been too busy to update it.
10:10 pm on February 9th, 2013
Gus&BooBear: 3 Without Names. We were wondering the same thing.

10:25 pm on February 9th, 2013
Rio: The Bartender…we didn’t see that one coming. It’s a Great 4th season of Justified! A Mystery to be solved. We love the Frenemy relationship between Boyd Crowder and Raylan.
10:32 pm on February 9th, 2013
Boyd!…We here have a definite affection for that Boyd Crowder…sniff!…We know he is bad to the bone, but dammit, we just love him. ….heh heh!

10:59 pm on February 9th, 2013
Quote!….Raylan, from Justified, “You say one more word about chickens and I’m gonna shoot you again…” And he did say one more word….grunt!
11:06 pm on February 9th, 2013
I agree with Rio—because of all youse, the Giant’s stomach will want for nothing on the trail. Thank you from the bottom of my sled dog heart.
Staff: I should clarify. The Giant didn’t eat any of the nut rolls for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It was me, me, me!
Sixty oranges down. Twenty or so to go.
11:08 pm on February 9th, 2013
Rebecca!…Do you freeze the oranges? Do they taste good once they are defrosted?…sniff!
11:10 pm on February 9th, 2013
Wow!….Justified always leaves us wanting for more and more…snort!…I wish I knew who the writers were. Must do some research…heh!

Heading off to bed ourselves – Mama says that shoveling all day has found muscles that she has forgotten about having.
Congratulations to everyone for Feeding the Giant!
G’night gnocchi.
11:16 pm on February 9th, 2013
Suddenly very tired here. Nighty Noodle and G’day to Liz in Oz.
11:42 pm on February 9th, 2013
Night all youse who are going to bed.
Rio: The answer to your question is yes. I peel the clementines, split them in halves, put four halves in a little baggie, and put them in the freezer. They are the right size for AJ to put a half in his mouth. It will thaw in his mouth. He craves citrus on the trail.
11:45 pm on February 9th, 2013
Rebecca!…Does he take vitamins while on the trail?…snort!
11:47 pm on February 9th, 2013
Unusual!…Tonight, like last night, Beau is down here with us…sniff!…Usually, he is up in bed way before we get there…heh!…Today he has been downstairs a lot even hogging my friends lap for hours earlier…grump!
11:52 pm on February 9th, 2013
Rio: AJ doesn’t take vitamins on the trail, be he makes sure the dogs do. He’s prepared meatballs with vitamin E tablets in them.
Philip, the guy who ran the team in the T200, came by tonight. We were standing around talking tonight near Junior. Philip and Junior couldn’t give enough of each other. Philip said at one checkpoint, he curled up on the straw by Junior and they slept side by side. I almost asked if he made sure to bring the baseball toys, but I didn’t want to have to explain myself.
11:57 pm on February 9th, 2013
Junior!….Hooo! I love that story about Junior and Philip…heh!heh!…I’m so glad Phil took good care of the A-Team while he was on the trail…snuffle!
Team!…When will AJ the Giant annound the official A-Team for the Last Big Race?…snort!
12:12 am on February 10th, 2013
Rio: We have the first round of vet checks on Tuesday. Their hearts will be monitored, they will be micro-chipped if they are rookie’s and their blood will be drawn. We will get the results later. We can have 24 dogs at this vet check. At the second round of vet checks just a couple of days before the race where the dogs will be poked and prodded by a team of volunteer vets; the team will be narrowed down to 20 from the original 24. AJ will make the final decision the morning of the restart.

Mr.Staff says he knee is fine. He says he could walk without the brace. I am not in favor of this (It was 4 weeks yesterday that he fell) He has another appt to be x-rayed and see how it is healing on Monday. He seems pretty happy with it now but he hasn’t bent it at the knee for that time so that will be the big test. The Dr. said keep the brace on for about 6 weeks and then check it.
