E-Reader How-To

About TAIL OF VENGEANCE, the new e-short story (July 8), Ms. Publicist says: “We’ve had some questions about how non e-readers can read it, too. The answer is: many ways! If you have an iPhone, Android, or any other smartphone — download the Kindle, Kobo, Nook or Apple iBooks apps and you can buy it through the app. You can also download Adobe Digital Editions (for free!), then download the ePub version of the book (why not from S&S?) and read it on your computer. You can even print it from your computer!”

Hey everyone – happy day to all.

ML – thank you so much for that posting last night. Mama sat the Storyteller and Gramp down and read it to them. Gramp is really having a bad time with this – he wants to be a good dad to his son, but his son doesn’t want a dad. The circus and the monkeys made Gramp laugh, and it made things a little clearer to him.

Meanwhile, Mama has been sitting at the ‘puter, cussing out a certain state’s “more user friendly” sales tax certificate application. She is just very glad she doesn’t live in that state. It is a state of confusion.

Hot and muggy here – thunderstorms a’comin’

Macy, The circus and the monkeys are so true. Thank you for posting that.

Golinka, There is a wildfire in the Chuska Mountains…parts of Naschitti and Sheep Springs have been evacuated. More wind is forecast for today. We have had day after day of wind which is most unusual for this time of year.

Hello Everyone–I was sorry to hear about the lady horse, but happy that there is good news about her restored state from the other side.

T&G: Are youse among those that discover toys that have gone missing during those storms with thunder?
More storms…prayers for the folks in northeast Nebraska where 2 tornadoes ripped through the tiny town of Pilger late yesterday, leveling homes and businesses.
    The town has been evacuated.
Mom was very concerned when she first heard the news as she has a dear friend who lives in that part of the state and only about 70 miles from where this occurred.
Siber: Yikes! Are you anywhere near the fire or affected by the smoke from the fire? Please be safe.
DianeC: Yes to the U.S win yesterday!

Good something, everyone! Mom just got home from her volunteer hours at the library. Can you say, “Straighten up kid’s books”? We loved the facebookie dog meets wolf…some people have way too mush time on their hands 🙂
BB: You are in our thoughts more than you know! Thanks for sharing about the mare.
T&G’s Mama: Our mom expected chemo or radiation last year but, no. Crazy business this “C” shiitake. One day at a time and kick it to the curb.

Masquers, I am a long ways from the fire and no smoke yet, but smoke could happen.

Diane, That is one of the joys of soccer…One doesn’t need to really understand the game in order to know what is happening in the game. The same cannot be said about baseball.

Mom says if “we” get all our work done, we can watch the Russians play later today. Maybe I will see Natasha in the crowd.

Diane – we are so glad YOU recognize our very valuable contribution to this here household. We are not sure that Mama or anyone else does, judging by the lack of cookies being handed out.
Can we still come hang out by your pool with you?

Siber – thanks for the heads up on the Chuska fire – we haven’t had news on or seen a paper for days, so didn’t know about it. But the good thing is that the authorities are evacuating the sheep camps out there in the wilds, and of course the Navajo radio station is broadcasting warnings. That station is heard so many places – even way out on the res where people don’t have electricity, they all have battery operated radios tuned to the Navajo station. You hear it at all the restaurants and stores patronized by the Indians out there too, so hopefully no one will wander into harm’s way while the fire is ranging.

We three spent the day indoors in the cool. The horses were not so fortunate. It is 88 here, but since our hygrometer is broken, no humidity!
Zeus has to go leash-walking soon, in this heat. Gah!
Macy, we believe in the not my monkeys philosophy. We mostly don’t bother with one side of the family for that reason. However, there is a surprise birthday party planned for November for one of them. Already they are bothering us for an RSVP! Mom does not want to go. Pop feels that he should. The wife of this family memeber tried to get Pop fired from his job years ago!!! Mom says she is nothing but trouble and has completely disassociated herself from them.

We are worrit about that fire in the Navajo Nation’s land. We are also worrit about the people in Pilger, Nebraska. Prayers are being sent up for both, as well as for T&G’s mom and uncle, Staff, ML, BooBear’s family, Wose, and all of our friends.

Hi everyone/ We too love that saying ML.

Sorry to hear about Liz-Beth, but glad her last days were peaceful.
Barb had a hot ride home from her office job today. It is around 90 degrees and her air conditioning went out. Have an appointment tomorrow morning, but that was not a help today. May go over to Josh’s for a cook out, but may just stay home and cool off.

The tornado that went thru Nebraska also touched down in Barb’s old town of Lena, IL. Guess some streets and highways were closed down this morning. Not major damage, but the tornado did touch down a few miles from Lean, and then again in the center of town. We heard that a 100 year old Maple went down in our old yard, but fortunately it fell east and went across the road. If it had fallen to the west, it would have destroyed the house.

No thunder bumpers here yet, but the pack of coyotes is on the prowl. They often get very vocal when they are hunting and that us what scares poor little Gilly to bits.

Howlers – just say no! Try to tell your dad that there will be LOTS of wild monkeys there, and there is sure to be lots of drama. He can avoid getting involved AND avoid the guilt by not going, but sending a very nice gift. Even go overboard on the gift, since there won’t be the expense of travel.

Thank youse for the good advice. Unfortunately, Pop is adamant about this party. It is a birthday party for his oldest brother (so what), and it is being given, at least partly, by his oldest son who is coming up from Arizona with his wife. The ‘rents really like those guys and Pop doesn’t want to hurt their feelings. This is the dad of the goddaughter who got married in Seattle last year.
Rule #1: There will be absolutely no alcohol intake by the ‘rents, because Mom sees that as a trap where the horrible one would call the cops and have them stopped. They are trying to think of any other evil things that the horrible one could do to ruin their lives.
