Dogs, Beaches, Humans
“Here’s a story about a section of beach down in Florida where leashed dogs are allowed,” Spence says. “It’s got some people stirred up.”
“If only everyone would clean up properly,” says Admin.
“But there have been some behavioral glitches, too.”
“I’ve seen human behavioral glitches at the beach. We don’t ban ourselves.”
“Audrey and Pearl sure had fun at the beach the other day. And not on leashes.”
“Yeah, but no one was around. Much different from the Florida pictures in the article. Let’s see what Down Below thinks.”

Good morning! Dog-friendly beaches is a good idea, but we don’t know what isn’t dog-friendly? Doesn’t everyone love us?
We have never been to the beach, because Mom and Pop never get to go away. But our big brother Boris told us stories of his trips to North Carolina’s Outer Banks. He said there was a super-giant dune there called Jockeys Ridge that he got to run all over. And he got to run the beach every day too. There are hardly any people on that beach (at least back then) and nobody minded. Of course, Mom always carried bags along just in case of any need to pick up after him.

In Stovernia, which has miles of lovely sandy beach, all dogs can run free. (I hope the pilot project becomes permanent.)
Good morning all.

And in Stovernia, Is it possible that doggies do not need to “do their business”?
Ever?

When we lived on the East coast of MA, there was a dog beach. The Pack did not exist then, but our two rescues loved it! Some dog owners were not great at policing their beach, but others brought extra bags and picked up stray poop.
In Cambridge, MA there is a dog park that is lit by methane produced by dog poop!

Good Morning O.Howlers, B, Wolfie & Melanie!
(Petlover-you look suspicious to me)
Dog Beach! Of this I have some knowledge. It was when we all lived in California over ten years ago. Coronado has their very own Dog Beach. We had our own stretch of sand near the Navy Base on the Island. Our kind could romp lease free, run on the beach and play in the waves to our hearts content. Sure there was the occasional confrontation between some types, but this was very rare…moms and dads were there to handle it. Mostly we all got along. The only rule was the requirement not to leave anything behind, to pick up after yourself, or you were not welcome. Little bags were provided in a handy dispenser as we entered the beach from the street. It was Heaven on Earth for me and the Nation Within.
Empress B: I commend you on your ruling. In Stovernia Dogs Rule (and kats too) expect when they mention the “B” word.

Melanie: That dog park sounds really kool.

Good morning everyone. Mama is so very busy these days – she is counting down days til the Big Art Show on Memorial Day weekend, and trying to get as much work done as possible. Plus her Bear has to be turned in on Monday, and he is not quite done. So, she apologizes for not being around more lately.
We get to go to the beach in September. There are signs everywhere that say “No Dogs” (phooey on that) but since it is after season, people do bring their dogs to the beach with poo bags conspicuously in sight. Funny that so many two leggeds leave their junk on the beach – cans and food wrappers and other stuff – but they get all worked up over poo, which at least is organic and will disintegrate. But Mama and Dad always clean ours up anyway.
And speaking of beaches, BlueCat’s family is at the beach until next month, and are disconnected from the virtual world until then. (Gotta admire that in a way.) Didn’t want anyone worried about BlueCat being among the missing.
We wonder if a certain Siber will be among the missing soon….

Bear, That sounds like a wonderful place. There are always people in every situation that don’t pick up after their dogs. They are just thoughtless and inconsiderate.
Well we watched Casino Jack last night. Lots of foul language, but that doesn’t bother us, because it was probably realistic. As a lobbyist, Abramoff was extremely powerful and he scammed several Native American tribes for millions. The thing that was scary tho was that these lobbyists wield so much power. Money and gifts are passed around to the politicans and it is really a disgusting fact of life. It could have been any group he was scamming, he didn’t care. He got so caught up in that life that he lost touch with values. The movie was well done and enlightening, and also a bit scary.

Missing!…SiberH had himself so worked up last night that his eye mascara was running…heh!heh!
10:44 am on May 16th, 2012
Is it safe to return to the blog?
We think dogs should be allowed everywhere and irresponsible dog owners should be seriously fined or put in jail, depending on their offense. Many people here do not clean up after their dogs even at the dog park, and there are always letters to the editor in the paper about someone hiking with their dog on leash and the dog being attacked by another dog that was off leash.
I do not want to go to the beach. I am not going to the beach. We have sand here and that is good enough for me.
The Rockies won the game last night. This is news,

Poo!…Last night when someone was walking Beau she was distracted by a lady who was talking to her saying how cute Beau is…grunt!…She stepped right in a fresh pile of poo…heh!heh!…Boy was she mad because she always picks up after us even though it brings on the gag reflex….chuffle!

We just got a puppy birth announcement from an ES breeder yesterday. Only 2 puppies in the new litter. Here is the wierd thing – the father of the pups went over the Bridge in 2005! Evidently another breeder had some frozen stuff from 2004 and they decided to use it. Guess they thought he was an exceptional dog. Anyway, does anyone else think that is slighty creepy? Sort of Steven Kingish? I know for AI, they ship viles frozen, but the fact that the dog has been gone for 7 years is what we thought was a little strange. Do do do do….
12:09 pm on May 16th, 2012
There used to be an official Dog Beach in a park called Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis, Maryland (on the Chesapeake Bay), although I think they had to shut it down a couple of years ago because of erosion problems. It was a fairly small beach front, but dogs were permitted to go off leash there. I was only there a few times but it was great fun. There are some mini-beaches where we walk in Rock Creek Park near our home where lots of dogs do gather and go into the water, especially on weekends. In my youth, me and my friend Casey used to go in the water a lot, especially in the summer, although it has gotten pretty poluted in more recent years and my mom and dad don’t let me go in any more. Hey Maggie, Frozen “stuff” is used a lot in farming. I know of people who use it in dog breeding. We tried a “cooled” specimen once but nothing ever came of it.
Anyhoo, the following people need to check their SDD’s to make sure I’ve sent back everything they sent me. If you don’t see your name and you sent me something let me know. Still very tired here. Also, if there is a problem with coloring or anything just tell me what you want.

Our peonies are still doing great, even it they got a bit water-logged with all the rain the last couple of days. Mom took a few pictures, one of which is below. They are so beautiful.

Peonies!…Hey! Those look just like the ones my friend made..(Not!)….snort!…Her mothers peonies are starting to bloom too…sniff!…Beau likes nothing more than to pee on them each and every day…heh!
2:36 pm on May 16th, 2012
Those tasty flowers are called pee-knees? Wierd name but they were delish.

They are lovely Wookie.
I’m going to plant some herbs.

I don’t know, Bear. Can you tell me what those look like?

This morning, my mom got mad at me for playing with my new toy bucket that she uses as a feed bucket for Ned. It says Merry Christmas and looked like a toy to me. O well, now it is in the trash and I must look for some new toy.
3:01 pm on May 16th, 2012
Kat: Dandelions are those friendly little yellow flowers that pop up all over the place – especially in the spring. Some dare to call them weeds.
3:02 pm on May 16th, 2012
Kat – vhen you carry flowers in vedding – remember, they are not toy. Or appetizer.
Hello Siber dear. Is new collar comfortable?
3:23 pm on May 16th, 2012
Siber-H: Getting a little hot around the collar, aye?
3:36 pm on May 16th, 2012
Melanie, It was not so much the idea that the pupsicles were previously frozen, as it was that the daddy dog has been gone for 7 years. It sort of seemed like bring back the dead.
The peonies are beautiful, Wookie.
Siber, Have you and Nattie set a date yet?

How about dandelion wine!
Herbs are planted.
4:29 pm on May 16th, 2012
Hi Bee – dandelion wine is lovely. And we really like dandelion salad too. We don’t use any chemicals on our lawn but the neighbors use that chemical green company all the time. So they don’t have dandelions, but they don’t have birds or butterflies either. All those pretty creatures come and hang out at our house.
Barb – we have been off the grid quite a bit lately and probably missed your post – but did you have the new realtor come out to look at your lovely farm? Did she have wonderful things to say?
Natasha – can we be bridesmaids too? We won’t eat the peonies, and we look lovely in slate blue.
4:32 pm on May 16th, 2012
Bee, What did you plant? We have basil, chives, dill, cilantro and oregano. We gave some plants to a friend, and she said “thank you for the spices.” We didn’t correct her and say herbs, but how would you define the difference?
We stopped at the library and the Rosenfelt book still is not in. Drat!
4:45 pm on May 16th, 2012
Rosenfelt!…We are just finishing up the one called First Degree…snort!…Should have it done tonight out on the patio after all the other stuff…sniff!…Oh wait, I think the game comes on at a normal time tonight finally…heh!…Maybe we won’t be finished with it after all…sniff!…That guy is great! Or at least he is a very good distraction while we are waiting on Spencers next book…grunt!
4:51 pm on May 16th, 2012
Barb – we were always told that herbs were leaves, and spices were other parts of the plants
4:59 pm on May 16th, 2012
And then there are some Herbs that are pretty spicy…..
giggle
5:08 pm on May 16th, 2012
Herbs!…So is Kat-nip a herb?…sniff!…Or a hallucinogenic?
5:09 pm on May 16th, 2012
Barb: As far as I know, spices are grown in tropical climates and herbs are grown in temperate climates. I’ve planted basil, oregano, chives, nasturtium and thyme. I’m still going to get lemon balm from farmer’s market on Saturday to plant. I may also get some kind of mint.
5:14 pm on May 16th, 2012
Rio: Nepeta cataria (catnip) is a flowering herb and is grown in Europe and the U.S.
5:26 pm on May 16th, 2012
Bear, We have lots of those little yellow dandelions in the horse pastures. The horses eat them, so I tried them too. They were just o.k. for me.
Natasha, I promise I won’t eat or play with my flowers until the ceremony is over.
By the way, I look lovely in slate blue. Thank Dog you aren’t doing pink, because pink would clash with my red fur.
5:49 pm on May 16th, 2012
Stover!…So, you are saying the Kats can buy their drugs legally…sniff!
5:52 pm on May 16th, 2012
That was clever B & S. And you are spicy.
Bee, Are you doing herbs in containers? Barb planted mint once in a flower bed, and it took over everyting. It has long runner like roots that spread underground.
6:51 pm on May 16th, 2012
Hey, y’all! Can someone come by and pick me up to go somewhere…anywhere?! I gotta get outta here! My boy and his girlfriend went down to Disney World, and their regular petsitter got sick, so they brought one of their dogs over here. (The other one is being fostered, so he has to stay in an approved home — thank dog!) So now the silly little pug keeps following me all over the house. Now I know how Rio feels about Beau — silly pug!!!
7:25 pm on May 16th, 2012
Barb: I’ve been growing herbs for years. I always put lemon balm, mint, (because they spread) and basil (because bugs get at it if in the ground) in containers.
Rio: At one time catnip was used by humans as medicine. It apparently causes numbness. Here’s a link:

7:49 pm on May 16th, 2012
Siber dear – vould you like some catnip?
7:54 pm on May 16th, 2012

Stover, Yes it is. Mom loves that story…up the river and all that.
I’m watching the baseball game. Seems stange for a game to start now when my eyes on still open.
Rio, I don’t think katnip does anything for us dogs.
9:17 pm on May 16th, 2012

Game!…It is nice to be able to maybe see the whole game for a change…heh!heh!…Woooooo!

9:26 pm on May 16th, 2012
I saw him and he spppears to be sober.
Rockies lead by 3 runs. woohoo
9:30 pm on May 16th, 2012
Show!…Rocky stole the show there for a little bit…snort!…If he’s sober I’ll eat Natasha’s hat…wheeze!
9:43 pm on May 16th, 2012
Okay, Okay, Okay . . . Jeez Louise, that Patsy has become a tad demanding. More than usual that is. Must be the thunderstorms. Had a batch come rumbling through. The radar is showing just rain showers for the rest of the evening.
Riö, The Royals’ Mum and I were talking about Brussel sprouts the other night. The Royals’ Dad HATES them and she has cooked them every which way and another. Turns out there seems to be a mutated gene that decides if you like them or not. If you have the mutated gene you don’t taste the bitterness.
I wonder if there’s some gene that Kats have that Dogs don’t that let them have a great deal of fun with Katnip.
9:43 pm on May 16th, 2012
Rolling eyes here. Umm I also meant to say
TTFN
9:43 pm on May 16th, 2012
Great defensive play by the Rockies in that inning…just like old times.
Rio, if you eat Natasha’s hat, you will be doing civilization a big favor.
9:46 pm on May 16th, 2012
Dawson, please check your SDD.
9:47 pm on May 16th, 2012
Oh gosh, Mom and I have the mutated gene. We love brussel spouts.
That is facinating, Melanie.
9:52 pm on May 16th, 2012
Sprouts!…From Brussels? We don’t eat them here…sniff!…We must not be mutants…chuffle!
Rockies!…They are looking Good tonight!…snort!…Just how I used to remember them, way back when….chorkel!
9:56 pm on May 16th, 2012
Barb has the brussel sprout gene too. Does that make her a mutant?
Taa taa, Melanie and everyone. Enjoy the game, youse bb guys.
9:56 pm on May 16th, 2012
Since I can’t see the game, the Wikipedia link that B posted has my attention.
Nepeta cataria, better known as catnip, is also an old folk remedy used for medicinal purposes. The Wiki article mentions that nepetalactone, an essential oil of the plant, is a very effective mosquito and fly repellent…one that is ten times more effective than DEET…very interesting.
I’m going to tell Mom to order one of those plants.
Siber: No one here has the mutated gene.
(For you and Rio: Go Rockies!!!)
10:02 pm on May 16th, 2012
Flies!…Beau and I were trying to catch a fly that got in the house today…snort!…Her mother had a good laugh over that spectacle…sniff!…Very interesting about Kat-nip being a pest repellant…grunt!…I wonder if they sell any kind of product made with that oil…hmmmm!…That would save me and Beau some embarrassment in the future…heh!
10:06 pm on May 16th, 2012
Moyer!…Our older pitcher causes a stir at bat sometimes, usually by mistake…heh!…Tonight was something I’ve never seen before…heh!heh!..He hit the ball(!) almost to first base, one of the Snakes got it and then leaped threw the air to tag Moyer as he scampered to first base….heh!…The snake missed Moyer and dove through the air as Moyer made it to first…chorkel!…I’ve never seen that before.
10:07 pm on May 16th, 2012
That was some dive the snake made.
10:36 pm on May 16th, 2012
Jamie!…Moyer is on base again…snort!…Unbelievable!…heh!heh!…I’m almost giddy the way this game is going so far…snorkel!
10:46 pm on May 16th, 2012
For his sake, I’m glad they got Moyer out of there. He was looking tired, but what a great game he pitched.
10:53 pm on May 16th, 2012
Applaud!…Clap!Clap!Clap!….To Jamie Moyer….wooooo!
11:03 pm on May 16th, 2012
Grump!…because of all the late nights we’ve had this week, someone says we need to hit the sack…grumble!…She thinks they will win without us and if they actually lose, we do not want to see that!…wuffle!…Beau is already upstairs in bed. He could hardly keep his big eyes open earlier…heh!…Wot a wimp!
11:04 pm on May 16th, 2012
Grump!…because of all the late nights we’ve had this week, someone says we need to hit the sack…grumble!…She thinks they will win without us and if they give the game away we do not want to see that!…wuffle!…Beau is already upstairs in bed. 11:10 pm on May 16th, 2012
Dawson!…I am now a “believer” in the Double Dawson…heh!heh!…Before, I could never duplicate my comment on purpose..sniff!….Tonight it happened like you have always claimed…chorkel!
11:13 pm on May 16th, 2012
Bed!…Well, now we don’t want to go to bed just yet…heh!heh!…This Double Dawson thing might happen again and I have a weak theory about how it happens….snifff!
11:16 pm on May 16th, 2012
RIO DID A DOUBLE DAWSON!!!! Hahahahahahhahhahhaaahahah – just wait till we get a chance to tease him.
Good night everyone. Thunderstorms have finally passed. We can come out from under the bed so Mama can get into it.
11:18 pm on May 16th, 2012
We are turning in. The Rockies will win it.
I want to hear the theory tomorrow about the Double Dawson.
night all
11:26 pm on May 16th, 2012
Time!…I think it might have to do with the time stamp…snort!…Look at my first double-dawson post, it has a time stamp of 11:03…snort!…The second duplicate stamp has a time stamp of 11:04…sniff!…Very wierd because both comments appeared at the same “time” after I hit the submit button…heh!…I say we should all take notice of the next Double Dawson time stamps and see if there is any similarities…snort!
Goodnight!
