Dogs + Baseball = Good; Dogs + Baseball + Canada = Bad

“Hear about the blockbuster trade, or rather salary dump, by the Miami Marlins?” Admin says.

“Of course,” says Spence. “Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle and more, in return for not much..”

“Exactly. But there’s a catch – Slater – Mark  Buehrle’s Staffordshire terrier – can’t go with him. Read all about it here.”

Good morning, Chet, Spence, Admin, and all Plunderers.
No fair for Slater and the rest of Buehrle’s family. Have youse guys been reading about how members of the nation have been put to death simply because of the tribe they belong to???? It has happened lots of places, most recently in Ireland. It makes us so darn angry. “First they came for the pitbulls…”

And Rio, we agree that the Israel/Gaza WWIII thing is way scary and why is the news making the Patreus soap opera the Big News story when all of that is going on?

Rio: The Half-blood Prince is the sixth in the seven novel series. Deathly Hallows is the final novel. They turned that into two movies…part 1 and part 2. If you have HBO, both parts of Deathly Hallows will be on Wednesday, Nov. 21 beginning at 1:30 PM and repeated on Nov. 26 beginning at 4:15 PM.

    OhmyDog,
Maggie takes a nap from 10 to 12 every morning. Dawson set up this schedule and we abide by it. So this morning I was tired and was thinking as soon as Maggie goes down for her nap so will I.

I just put her down and Mr.Staff said to me. “Has Maggie changed her schedule? Heh. I put her down at 9. Mr.Staff said I should get her up but I am going for my nap instead.

I will tell her when I get her up at 11.

Looks like the jail cells on Stovernia will be rather full tonight.

We will become fans of baseball, football and all that other masculine ball stuff when there is a daily Art and Literature section in every newspaper, and the Art and Book Report takes up a good part of every local news broadcast. Also, when students who make great art, but can’t do simple arithmetic or spell ” h a t ” can still get full ride scholarships to great colleges.

“But no one PAYS to go see art”, some will say. Maybe that’s because it isn’t publicized ad nauseum like sports.

    Grump. Getting off soapbox now.

    Good morning everyone.

Staff, been there and done that . .

I put the link of Slater, the Staffordshire terrier , on OTAS’s Facebook and he is not pleased. American Staffordshire Terriers are not pitbulls any longer. They are bred for gentleness and sweetness. On the other hand, pitbulls are not savage unless they are not only bred to be that way but are trained to be that way.

Snigglefritz. Do you know there are some people that have tried to put NEWFOUNDLANDS on the dangerous dog list?? What they’re going to drool on you? Maybe if they get tired they might just sit on you.

I agree with my Fellow Sibers…”first they come for the pitbulls.” Huskies have appeared on some of the insurance companies dangerous dog lists.
Our shelters in NM are full of pitbull and pitbull mixes.
Too bad Buehrie wasn’t traded to the Rockies instead of Canada. He seems to be a total dog person. I know, that has nothing to do with how well he plays baseball.

Hot topic this morning. I did hear about this trade that may get Toronto out of the cellar and into the playoffs but, after last World Series, I’m not paying attention to all that jazz anymore. I’m giving it up for good and going to join T&G’s and BStover’s school of art and literature. But, as for Slater, that is wrong – he is a member of the family.

When I had raspberries I would prune in Spring – it is easy to see which ones are dead then. The canes only produce berries once so all the ones that have produced berries can go. Reasons to leave the canes until spring: General laziness (or the opposite – the need to be busy in the clay room); visual appeal over winter; possibly birds can eat any stray berries and the aforementioned reason – it is easier to spot the dead wood. I cut the canes right at the base or as close as possible.

  34. Barb & Maggie
    12:41 pm on November 16th, 2012

Amalia, I do not have a lot of experience with growing raspberry bushes. It seems to me that the new cane grows one year and bears fruit the next year. I believe that you then cut that 2-yr old cane down to the ground leaving just the new growth. Better do some more research on that before pruning.

Gus is doing well. He had not been left at anyones home before and we felt sorry for him last night. He tried to leave with them, and when they shut the door and left, he just stood with his nose on the door for about 10 minutes. Then he spent the next 2 hours right in front of the door waiting for them to come back. Today he is fine. Maggie has finally stopped shadowing him like a velcro dog.

Well…you know that I have to do this.

    “Whitecaps on the bay
    A broken signboard hanging
In the April Wind” (Richard Wright)

Haiku usually involves a season and juxtaposes two images. According to Matsuo Basho, “The haiku that reveals seventy to eighty percent of its subject is good. Those that reveal fifty to sixty percent we never tire of.” It reminds me of Japanese painting: Part of a line or scene is given and the rest left to our imaginations.

The American Imagist poets (Ezra Pound, etc.) were influenced by haiku.

I want to thank each of your for all you do for Snowhook. I can’t believe the early start! In regard to questions about team Shake your Bootie, last year we received a bit of a discount from the vendor. If we can get the discount again (paws crossed), it will be around $1780.00 My goal is to save my left over laundry money to put toward booties as well.

More on booties. I told AJ that a request was made for neon booties. We haven’t ever purchased from that vendor. I just looked at their online products—after a typo in my seach and being surprised with some adult conduct—and it looks like they are much more expense. 2000 booties from them would be $5000. Gulp! Out of the question!

Wose – we saw Rosemary Clooney in concert with an orchestra not too long before she went over the rainbow bridge. She had a lovely, mellow voice. Check out Wikipedia’s article on Holiday Inn, the film. (I’d give you the link if I knew how…) Rosemary wasn’t in that film – she was in White Christmas, also with Bing Crosby. The song White Christmas was written by Irving Berlin for the film Holiday Inn and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Were you named for her? If not, how did you get the beautiful name Rose? “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”

I made up Existential Haikus because I needed to laugh. I knew that some people (sorry B) would have problems with it. I also knew that some would join in.
    Thank you all.

    From Wikipedia:
Existentialism: “the philosophical and cultural movement which holds that the starting point of philosophical thinking must be the experiences of the individual.”

Modern Japanese Haiku: “Modern Japanese haiku (現代俳句 gendai-haiku?) are increasingly unlikely to follow the tradition of 17 on or to take nature as their subject . . There is a common, although relatively recent, perception that the images juxtaposed must be directly observed everyday objects or occurrences.”

Bluecat, thank you for the information on Holiday Inn and White Christmas. You certainly know your films!

I’m not especially fond of the name Rose, but thank you for the lovely compliment. As far as how I was named, my father’s favorite singer at the time when I was born was Rosemary Clooney. My parents decided to name me Rosemary, but when my birth certificate was filled out at the hospital, it was filled out incorrectly. Instead of Rosemary, my birth certificate reads Rose Marie Delgado. My parents never had it corrected, but my mom always called me Rosemary. My dad used to call me Rosie when I was little.

Rosie!…It doesn’t matter what you are called, it only matters if you can discern whether to come or not when you are called…snorkel!…Beau and I are of a high discerning nature and hardly ever come when called….sniff!…Unless the callee has a treatie or a bowl of food in their paws…heh!

We just got back to reading the events of the day.
Dawson – you get the haiku prize! Thanks for a great laugh.
Sunday is the first show in the stream – just a short, 5 hour show. Great for checking out everything for the big shows coming up. There was a lot of sterling silver polish being spread around as inventory was cleaned and polished to shine like – well, to shine like silver. Even the showcases got polished, and that was one messy job!
Long day tomorrow getting the rest of everything ready. Oh, and we are doing Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow – just the Cliff Notes version – just for the little family here, with Stove Top stuffing and instant mashed taters, and fresh asparagus. And a small turkey. Then on Thursday, there are reservastions made at a lovely restaurant where Mama can have a steak, or haddock or duck or anything BUT turkey, which is NOT her favorite meal.
So, we will say goodnight too. And not even in haiku form.

Golinka!…Good luck at the very shiny short show this Sunday…snort!snort!…My friend says she would love to go with youse guys on your shows. She thinks it would be all fun and games after all the heavy lifting of course…heh!heh!

Twirling!….Lots of multicolored paper being cut and twirled here tonight while we watch Elementary…snort!…My friend is making someting for the Auction I do believe. The other project she spent loads of time on thinking it would be in the Auction is now in the Reject-Closet…grump!

PBS!…There is a show on PSB called “Crafts in America”, which is an odd title, but the next show is about what drives artists to create…snort!… We were thinking this would be interesting to watch as Golinka has been known to say she needs to create her art…sniff!…It does not just pay the bills, she NEEDs to do it….wheeze!…I’m wondering about Clarkson now too. Does he need to do what he does? He must!…heh!…Anyway, the show sounds very interesting and I hope we do not miss it!…grunt!

Bravo to Barb and Maggie for representing the Great High Whatchamicallit extravaganza of 2012!

I will be up and at ’em while many of the east coasters are still in their warm, soft beds with all their baseball toys just so. So, good night and I hope to see you sometime tomorrow.

Wose: Belle Starr says if you subtract 1 from 3 you should be here in two days. And, if you multiply by the 0 left in 103, well, she expects you any second now.
