Dogs, Babies, Finland
“Here’s something interesting,” says Spence. “Babies who grow up with a dog in the house appear to be healthier, according to this Finnish story.”
“Could be a Finn outlying thing,” Admin says. “But let’s link to it, especially since Cero, Chet’s current Facebook Friend of the Month, hails from those parts.”

Seems very speculative.
Good morning all.

Good Morning B.Stover and All!
Get up and DANCE! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pwe-pA6TaZk
9:59 am on July 10th, 2012
heh,
I forgot about where the hell is Matt. I have enjoyed his dancing in the past. Mostly he danced by himself before unless I am remembering incorrectly.
Speaking of dancing. The VA is coming to put in a pole for Maggie this morning.
10:01 am on July 10th, 2012
Thanks for the link Melanie – that was just what we needed this morning. It always makes us smile to see people doing things together, joyfully, peacefully and without regard to who is in power, who is rich, poor, pretty, whatever.
We need more of that.
10:05 am on July 10th, 2012
Cool video Melanie. Thank you. (The best dancers were the ones from Detroit!)
10:26 am on July 10th, 2012
Great video! That put us all in a great mood. Thanks, Melanie.
And we believe the link about less respiratory issues for kids who grow up with dogs.
10:26 am on July 10th, 2012
Fun video! 🙂

I’d bet dollars to dooghnuts if the Prof had a dog when he was a boy, he wouldn’t have all the annoying allergies he has now.
10:31 am on July 10th, 2012
Yeah, Rose, right? We know so many kids and adults with allergies nowadays and none of them had dogs and now they can’t have dogs!
10:35 am on July 10th, 2012
I had a dog when I was a kid and had ear aches many times. I also have allergies now……
10:40 am on July 10th, 2012
I should clarify: I’m allergic to mold not dogs.
10:43 am on July 10th, 2012
Staff: This is kool! Your link from last night not only came through, but the featured duo are up top this morning. What are the odds of that?
What’s this about a pole for Maggie?
10:52 am on July 10th, 2012
BIG Smiles Here! Thank you for sharing, Melanie.
10:56 am on July 10th, 2012
OHs: I keep telling the Prof a dog would make him all better. Even a kat….
11:02 am on July 10th, 2012
Rio, am I still your Valentine? 🙂
11:15 am on July 10th, 2012
There was a long article in the paper this morning on the same topic as Chet’s post. This theory is nothing new. It has been circulating for quite awhile now. It goes along with the theory that little kids need to play in the dirt and in a house that is not spotlessly clean so their immune system will be strong.
All of this makes sense to mom, who, of course, has never had a kid.
Good Morning Everyone!
11:18 am on July 10th, 2012
How is Gus today? I hope his appointment at the vet went well.
Barb&Maggie, We miss you.
11:20 am on July 10th, 2012
With OTAS I was very careful about sterilizing everything. His bottles, his diapers, his life . .
Then when he was around 6 months old had crawled out of the closet chewing on an old shoe . . I said what the heck! He played in the dirt, played with kate and dogs, had a great time.
We didn’t get a dog until he was around 6 and YSAS was around 1. Neither of them have allergies. Other problems but not allergies. Can’t count the gluten because that’s inherited.
11:27 am on July 10th, 2012
Siber, your mom and our mom have much in common. Mom claims to know best that children need to be exposed to dirt, germs, etc from the time they are young. And she gained all of her knowledge and experience the same way your mom did: by not having any children. 🙂
11:56 am on July 10th, 2012
We miss Barb&Magpie too.
11:56 am on July 10th, 2012
That’s the way I got my experience with kids also. Heh. Dawson and A Catty Librarian got theirs the other way. snicker.
3 hours till touchdown. YAY
The person installing Maggie’s pole did not arrive between 9 and 9:30. It is now 10:55 and he still hasn’t arrived. Maggie is down for her nap so he will not be installing any poles today. Sniff.
Jerks.
They lied about coming yesterday and now they are not here again. Maybe we do not need a pole. I am ready to use it in other ways though.
12:00 pm on July 10th, 2012
Rio: Hope Beau is behaving himself today. Bet it has something to do with your Friend going back to work yesterday…then on top of that her mother left the house. The poor guy simply panicked.
12:01 pm on July 10th, 2012
Yes, how is Gus doing?
Barb & Maggie you are missed.
Riiiiooooooo, where are you, my little pugalicious pug???
12:02 pm on July 10th, 2012
Can you believe it? I haven’t had breakfast yet. That will never do.
See youse in a bit.
12:04 pm on July 10th, 2012
huh.
Guess I should have complained on the blog earlier. They came at 11:05. They got sent away. They will call to reschedule. sniff. I was polite but firm. Heh. If Maggie and Bruce are sleeping then tough **** they are not being awakened.
Dawson taught me that.
12:17 pm on July 10th, 2012
Staff, what is the pole that is being installed? And who is touching down?
We miss Barb and Maggie too. Wonder how the househunt is going.
Bear, we agree about Beau havin some separation anxiety. Given his past, it is to be expected. Poor guy.
12:25 pm on July 10th, 2012
I am also in agreement about Beau having some seperation anxiety yesterday.
1:15 pm on July 10th, 2012
Howlers: I was thinking the same thing about Barb and Maggie. I hope both are doing well.
I’ve been thinking. Dangerous, yes, but I’m doing it anyway. Stinky Mama has shows in the very near future. I would like those to be successful. She is so very talented. Anyone interested in doing a prayer on Golink’a behalf later this week?
1:18 pm on July 10th, 2012
Bella! A wonderful idea. Count us in.
1:34 pm on July 10th, 2012
I’m in!
1:41 pm on July 10th, 2012
Dawson is touching down on her flight from Seattle. I don’t have her flight #.
The pole is something the OT at the VA said would make it easier for Mom to get up and down. It is a pressure fit and able to easily hold weights up to 250. So they say.
1:50 pm on July 10th, 2012
We’re in too.
Staff, thanks for the explanation. Otherwise, we had mental images of Maggie pole dancing, which was interesting, to say the least.
Wookie
1:55 pm on July 10th, 2012
Staff – when dealing with the VA, firm is the only way to go. Being willing to beat them with a big stick also works. Just for your information, there is an alternative to installing a pole. There is a handle that can be attached to any bed for the same purpose – kind of shaped like an upside down “U”. You can find those at stores that sell home medical supplies, or if you don’t have those nearby, check online.
Bella – that is very thoughtful, and certainly very much appreciated.
Melanie – OTAS played with “kate” in the dirt? Does GLAD know about this? tee hee
2:05 pm on July 10th, 2012
We’re in too.
We were thinking of a flag pole. Not quite as exciting as Wookie’s idea!
T&G, we wondered who Kate was too.
2:40 pm on July 10th, 2012
Thanks Tupper and Gilly, She has had the upside down U shaped thingy for 3 years now. That gets her sitting up in bed. Usually. But to stand up she reaches over and leans on an old table. A very old table with towel bars on the sides.
(Like this…
http://2knitwits.blogspot.com/2011/03/cody-wyoming.html
The 5th picture down has a picture of the table Mom grabs onto.
The back of the table is towards the camera and it has a jar of paintbrushes on it.)
We are afraid she will pull that old table apart, but so far it has held up fine.
2:43 pm on July 10th, 2012
I’m in on the prayer.
3:10 pm on July 10th, 2012
How does Thursday night at our regular time sound?
3:11 pm on July 10th, 2012
I’ve done this test before. It is very interesting. The colors that I like the most are the ones where I have the most trouble. Hmmm However I got a 28 which I think is a very good score.
One hint. While taking the test narrow the window so you can only see the row you are working on. It really helps.

3:51 pm on July 10th, 2012
Test!…Staff, my friend took the test and she got a 4…heh!heh!…snort!
3:51 pm on July 10th, 2012
Fast!…She didn’t spend much time on it though, because of where she is at today…grump!
3:56 pm on July 10th, 2012
We are back guys! Yea. That was cool that you mentioned missing us. Barb actually got back last night, but the computer was down this morning, so now we are up and running again.
Hope all are well and had a good week while we were on vacation. Family get-together was fun, great seeing everyone.
Barb stayed an extra day and did some house hunting Sunday and Monday. We have now bid on a house in Woodstock and it has been accepted. Barb is very happy with it. Cute little ranch in the town she really wanted to be in, and 5 min. from Josh ahd Jess, which will be great.
Now packing starts and it will be crazy around here for 6 weeks. Tomorrow we have an appraisal and well and septic check on this house. Hope the appraisal goes well, as that can mess up the sale a bit.
BTW, we missed you too!
4:03 pm on July 10th, 2012
The prayer, Count us in…the ususal time on Thusday. Very good idea, Rebecca.
Barb, The house sounds wonderful. Welcome back.
4:06 pm on July 10th, 2012
Well, that was interesting. I got a 37. I found the blue green to be difficult.
Soaking the gardens today. No rain looked for until maybe Sunday and then it’s just 30%. Jeez Louise it’s dry!
4:08 pm on July 10th, 2012
Yay!!! Barb&Magpie are back…and with Good News!
SnowBella: Thursday evening…regular time it is.
4:29 pm on July 10th, 2012
Score 24 on the color test.
Blue/green problem area here also.
4:34 pm on July 10th, 2012
Rebecca, Check your SDD. I just paid for my auction items online instead of sending you a check. I am becoming a high-tech Husky, especially when it comes to spending money online.
4:35 pm on July 10th, 2012
Score!…Who can beat a 4?…heh!heh!…I bet Debbie LM could…grunt!
4:35 pm on July 10th, 2012
Barb and Maggie – HOORAY!!!!!! Can you bring your chickens with you?
Ok, Mama took the test and got a 0 – then she got a phone call and when she got back to the computer, the page wouldn’t refresh, so she couldn’t see what that meant. Huh? How could she get a 0?
4:40 pm on July 10th, 2012
Oh, and Mama has been spending the day getting all kinds of packages ready to ship out.
4:44 pm on July 10th, 2012
Wow! I have perfect color acuity! That must be why I love to paint and am always painting houses and rooms for friends. They just turn me loose and enjoy the results.
4:46 pm on July 10th, 2012
Stinky!…I knew Stinky Mama would get a perfect score (0 = Perfect)…snort!…Had no idea that the Hobbit loved colors too..chorkel!
4:54 pm on July 10th, 2012
Barb, great news on the house!!! Yay! Woodstock is where Kat ate her supper with Mom, on her way home from the BDHW Big Event…but we are doubting yours is the same Woodstock. Heh Heh
5:00 pm on July 10th, 2012
Welcome back Barb and Maggie. That is excellent about the house purchase.
5:03 pm on July 10th, 2012
12 for moi! (not as good as Riö but better than Bear. Heh)
5:13 pm on July 10th, 2012
Maskers!…Its good you don’t see everything in Black n’ White…heh!
5:22 pm on July 10th, 2012
Our Woodstock is where Grounhog Day was filmed. I bet the Woodstock where you ate was the more famous one.
What did we miss out on while we were gone?
5:24 pm on July 10th, 2012
Barb!…We had an Auction…snort!
5:54 pm on July 10th, 2012
Staff, i pictured the pole like one the firemen slide down. I couldn’t quite see your Mom doing that, but my picture of her going back up was even funnier.
5:56 pm on July 10th, 2012
Welcome back Barb and Maggie!!! Sounds like good news on the house! 🙂
6:14 pm on July 10th, 2012
Mom is waiting at the vet right now. Doc said Gus had responded a little to the Lasix, particularly on one side but now as well as she had hoped. They are currently drawing the fluid out manually. Mom is a wreck waiting.
Interesting how many on the blog never had kids. Add Mom to that list. She also thinks she knows how to be a perfect parent…but no one asks for her opinion.
6:21 pm on July 10th, 2012
Our Mama is a perfect parent!!!! We are the proof!
6:29 pm on July 10th, 2012
We wondered if Maggie was going to try her hand at pole dancing!
Rio, I know we missed the auction. Bummer. Did it make tons of money?
Any other life changing events while we were gone?
6:35 pm on July 10th, 2012
I’m with Barb and MagPie, I thought Maggie was going to be pole dancing.
There were times with my guys that I wondered if any of us would make it through their teenage years. As soon as OTAS was though YSAS was entering the teens. Bad planning there. Not that there was planning . .
I can SMELL rain. I bet it doesn’t get here.
Congrats to B&M! Now I have to look up Woodstock, IL. Don’t remember it when I used to live there.
6:44 pm on July 10th, 2012
I’m rooting for Gus! Dan had to have the fluid taken out manually. Then the Lasix has kept it in check.
Barb and MagPie, Woodstock is about 75 minutes away from where I did some growing up! It’s probably not far as the crow flies, but cops don’t like it when you just go over people’s yards and farms.
7:01 pm on July 10th, 2012
Hey, y’all! Look what one of our kind did the other day. This was just a few blocks from our house — too bad it wasn’t closer. I would have taken care of that bear myself!

Hang in there, Gus!
The Prof and I don’t have any children either.
Rooting for your man, Rio!

We also love Buster.
Helton would have caught that ball that Jeter threw.
8:50 pm on July 10th, 2012
Heh-heh, Wookie, we had the image of Maggie pole dancing, too.
Did Staff steal Remington’s table?
So how did everybody score on the color test? We got 100. How do you narrow the window? Maybe that would have helped us do better. Now that we have seen others’ scores we are thinking that we are blind. Not happy.
8:51 pm on July 10th, 2012
Josh Hamilton is another one we love. The thought of the Rangers losing him this winter makes me sick, unless the Rockies could get him, but they can’t afford him.
8:55 pm on July 10th, 2012
Hamilton!…Oh, if only the Rockies could afford him…oooooooo!…Cargo out at first…grump!
9:00 pm on July 10th, 2012
Y’all can’t have Joshie.
9:05 pm on July 10th, 2012
I am very impressed with the people who scored zero. Rio and The Royal’s Mum. I really thought 28 was good.
Dawson is back…I am breathing easy.
9:14 pm on July 10th, 2012
Hi guys, long time no talk to! I hope you’re all well. I see it’s baseball season again.

About to crash here. Night all. Glad to be back.

This game s*u*c*k*s sweaty socks.
9:28 pm on July 10th, 2012
Hi hi!!! Thank you, Cricket is doing very well. She likes her new diet regime and the naturopathic herbs she’s on seem to be doing a world of good. We were at the beach recently and she ran up and down the sand for ages and greeted everyone and had a ball.
9:31 pm on July 10th, 2012

Hey young Rio. No shows til November.
9:43 pm on July 10th, 2012
Young!…heh!snorkel!…I knew there was a reason I liked you Liz…heh!…It is the middle of Baseball Season here. It will be over by the time you have your show(s) so keep us informed, okay?…chuffle!
9:51 pm on July 10th, 2012
First, Hi, Liz!!! You have been missed!
Gus isn’t doing too well. He came through the procedure okay. The vet removed 90 cc of fluid from his chest. She says that was alot! He was fine during the procedure, but by the time Mom got him home, he had pretty much collasped. He got out of the carrier but then laid down flat. Mom called the vet back to see if this was normal after the procedure and she said, No…most cats would be feeling better since they can now get oxygen in the lungs. Back to the vet we went. Vet is also puzzled by his reaction. Did some blood work and his potassium is low (due to the lasix) so we got medicine for that. She didn’t want to keep him there over night since no one would be there, but she made sure we knew where the emergency vet clinic is. His heart murmer is bad (catagory 5 with 6 being the worst) but it has been bad for awhile.
Y’all keep him in your hearts tonight that he pulls through this. I’ll tuck the quilt around him tight.

Hearty licks Gus. And dainty ones to Boo Bear.
12:16 am on July 11th, 2012
Amen to all the prayers said for Gus and his family. Thinking of you, little guy.
Liz: So glad you’re back!
12:28 am on July 11th, 2012
Gus: It never fails. They fix one thing, and something else breaks down! One of those medicines has to do the trick. Until then, just hang in there and know we’re all thinking good thoughts for you!
Hey, Liz! So glad you and Cricket are right as rain! Do they say that Down Under?
Mom finally sat down and took the color test from the first page. She’s not quite as good as CHarris, Amalia and Rio’s friend, but she did manage to get a 6. She’s always hated the paint color in the hall bathroom — now she knows it’s because Dad picked it without her help. Obviously, she has a better eye than he does! (He hasn’t taken the test yet, but she’s sure he would do much worse!)
12:31 am on July 11th, 2012
Our girl Niki went to Minneapolis today and at the airport the Corgi in line behind her had to go through the pat down!

Hi Liz!!!!
7:08 am on July 11th, 2012
Quick morning note…Gus made it through the night. Thank you for the prayers and good thoughts and. of course, for the magical quilt. He did rouse himself and ate a small breakfast, which we take as a very good sign. Not out of the woods yet, but baby steps taken.
Thank you, friends and Creator. Love you guys.

An earache from a cold can be a sharp, dull, or burning pain that can range from mild to very painful. Even if the trapped fluid in the ear is not infected, the fluid puts pressure on the eardrum, causing it to bulge and throb.,
