Dogs and People: Going Way Back

“The implication being that these early hunters saw themselves in a sort of spiritual relationship with the nation within?” Spence says.

“I think so,” says Admin.

“Kind of nice.”

Good morning, T&G and Rose. Ditto to what Rose says. We here are hoping for the best for your ouchy knee.

Oleys, We are sure your rents have reliable people to take care of you while they are out west. No worries!

Hopefully this third doc will come up with the deciding opinion. Orthoscopic surgery is not too bad, if that is what is in her future. Quick recovery.

Now we only have one question about that article. First it sounded nice that the dogs were being buried, but then they state that dogs were only buried when a human was also being buried. So therefore….Sounds more like they were placed in the grave to accompany the human into the next life. Chances are they were sacrificed. No fun for the nation within.

    Very interesting article.
Different cultures all over the world did kill and bury animals with their owners so they would be together in the next life. Their hearts were in the right place is the only good thing I can say about it.

Howlers, Mom says not to give your caretaker too much grief.

    The etymology of “chevy”:

“After Cheviot Hills bordering England and Scotland. A battle between English and Scottish forces over a hunting expedition is described in a 15th-century ballad (The Ballad of Chevy Chase). A chase is a tract of land reserved for hunting. The name of the city Chevy Chase in Maryland has the same origin. Earliest documented use: before 1825” (A.Word.A.Day).

Very interesting, Bee. Thanks for the link.

Rio, what kind of tomatoes did your friend plant?

Staff, or other gardeners, Barb had a number of beans come up “dead head” this year. She pulled them out and replanted. Some were from seeds she saved, and others from purchased packages. We read that it could be from damaged seeds, but we don’t think that is it. Soil is loose and loamy and new, so wouldn’t think there would be bugs living down there. Could it be from cold damp weather after we planted?

Orphan train is good. Between 1854 and 1929 over 200,000 kids were transported out from the east. Many were taken to Mn. They estimate that there are probably 2 mil. descendants from these kids. The children were “advertised” before they arrived and were given away free. They lined them up and people could come by and pick one up. You could send them back after 30 days if they didn’t work out. Young kids went first, then older boys were taken for farm work. Older girls were chosen last. We have stricter rules on pet adoption today then what was afforded these children.

  21. Barb & Maggie
    1:11 pm on May 22nd, 2013

Oops, those beans are termed bald head, not dead head. It means that there are no leaves inside the two haves when it emerges from the ground.

Chevy Chase, Maryland was “a planned community established as a green refuge from Washington, D.C.” by Senator Francis Newlands whose ancestral home was in Chevoit Hills, Scotland. First the good news about the Storyteller: his doctor is very pleased with his astounding progress. Most patients would only be moving with a walker by now – he is using one cane and gadding about all over the place. They have also removed the steel plate from his back brace. There is still a lot of supporting layers, but he is no longer “magnetic”.

And Mama…well, Mama is a medical mystery. Doctor who ordered the MRI has put her on MUCH stronger giraffe meds, and ordered an ultrasound to check for blood clots. And she meets Doctor #4 tomorrow.

    Sheesh, what a sissy.

That episode has as many twists as a ball python.
I enjoyed it. That is the episode, not a python. A lover of snakes, i’m not.

Gah!…None of this seems real to me…sniff!…Totally bizarre.

Real?…It is real?… snort!…A real episode of Sherlock. Hmmmm….Moriarty has always confounded me. Why not now? …heh!

The issue about the name “Macedonia” is a real conflict. I have to think more about Moriarty.

I meant that greed is real.

Moriarty!…They took quite a lot of liberties with that character on this show…snort!…I thought the whole nemesis thing would continue for a long time – so therein lies my confusion about the whole episode. Great last show of the season!!!…wow!

Tired!…wow. Someone says we are going to bed really early because she has to get up even earlier tomorrow to make sure Beau and I are set for the long, long, long day ahead…sniff!…Seems we will be left ALONE all day long…grump!…This really stinks.

Oh My Golinka, I hope those dancing giraffes don’t step on anybody. Good news about Leonard and that is all I am saying about your news right now.

My basil is doing fine. It rained on it for 3 days and it didn’t care. Maybe it loved it. Hard to tell.

Doctors are happy with me. I don’t have to see the kidney doctor for 6 months and the foot doctor said come back next year.

Mr.Staff brought me flowers (Oxalis for outdoors, 2 clematis and someflat and curly parsley)from the greenhouse in Fargo today. Maybe tomorrow we will get our tomatoes planted. We looked for Black Krim for Mr.Staff but the lady who starts the ‘interesting’ tomatoes was not coming in until later in the day. It is a 100 mile round trip so we will not be returning to pick one up. Drat.

Mom finally got her rear in gear and bought the wood for her planter boxes. And 4 yards of planting mix is being delivered on Friday. She is trying very hard not to think about how much it all cost.

But is will be fun, fun, fun to play in the dirt!

I have had no luck getting my Two-legged in the washer. It’s like trying to put a kat in the bathtub. She puts all fours out and refuses to budge. I knew she was strong, but had no idea she is flexible. I was going to try the postal services, but she also refuses to fit and therefore won’t ship despite the Post Office’s promise. I still have time to think of a plan to get to DC to meet Wookie’s folks.

My Two-legged is convinced my Four-legged is trying to do her in. Why? Last night, while the former was carrying an armful of clean clothes the latter walked in front of her. Splat! Clothes and mamas were everywhere!

Wolfie: I thought my Two-legged was playing in dirt this morning when she was walking down the mud bog that is our driveway to her car. She says she wasn’t play, but rather the mud swallowed her shoo. She is such a stick in the mud…giggle.

We here are very worrit about Golinka and HOH’s mom. If either need the services of card-carrying Smoochers, just say the word.

Belle Starr: Why don’ t you swipe one of those nice new jackets for the team, put on your sparkly collar and tell the airlines that you are your two-legged’s therapy dog. It could work……
