Good Morning Chet, Spence & Admin.
We know they will be a big Comfort to everyone.

Melanie: Give a Big Bear Hug to Zoe.
    er…maybe just some Love instead.

    Greetings!

I saw that story about the thearpy dogs in Newtown on the news last night. They were beautiful dogs, of Wookie’s breed.

Shout out to early birds Bear and Rio!

    Good morning all.

Grump!…If I wouldn’t have gone back and put that apostrophe in “it’s” for Stover, I would have beat Bear out for first…grunt!

Riö: It’s not easy to beat a hungry Bear when he’s up in the morning foraging for food.

Too bad about being second Rio! sob

We saw the Golden therapy dogs on the news too. They are from a Chicago suburb and travel to different disaster areas to lend a paw.

Wonder how Zoe is doing this morning.

  11. B. Stover
    10:19 am on December 18th, 2012

Technically Rose, Howlers, Melanie, Macy and Bear were first because they all posted this morning on yesterday’s blog. However, I really appreciate the apostrophe usage Rio. Thank you.

(And I’ll be so glad when that blasted picture of steak tartare is no longer on here.)

Hey everyone. Now we have seen the worst of the worst. Tori Spelling in the Scrooge role. GAAAAAHHHH!!!!

That’s it. We are going out to do errands, and hopefully find some Christmas spirit.

  13. Riö – The Evil Pug
    10:28 am on December 18th, 2012

Tartare!…Steak?…snort!…I thought that was moose tartare…gurgle!

  14. Barb & Maggie
    10:31 am on December 18th, 2012

Bee, Just pretend it is a red cookie with sprinkles on top.

T & G, Tori Spelling can not act. If her dad was not Aaron Spelling she would have never made it to the movies, IMHO.
Does seem like she is a good mom though.

Two movies we like on Lifetime: Undercover Christmas and The Road to Christmas.

Spence: The dogs do help a little.
E-story: Yes, please. I’d like to know about Chet’s beginnings.

Rio: Don’t bring up the M-word!

  16. B. Stover
    10:38 am on December 18th, 2012

I usually have a good imagination but thinking of it as a red cookie is not possible. It’s worse than all the talk of moose whatever.

  17. Masquers
    10:43 am on December 18th, 2012

B: We are thinking the same thing!
B&M: You have the purrfect solution…imagine it is something else (no, not moose tartare, Riö).

  18. BearSpiritDog
    10:44 am on December 18th, 2012

You mean…it’s NOT a red cookie with sprinkles on top?

  19. BearSpiritDog
    10:46 am on December 18th, 2012

I really did think it was a Red Cookie…Sigh.

  20. Siber-H
    11:11 am on December 18th, 2012

Goldens are so good at bringing comfort to people. I have never seen Sibers in that line of work, but I am sure some would be good at it. Mom says, “maybe”.

The steak tartare sure looks delish.

We are wondering how Zoe is doing. Melanie will know more after she visits her today.

  21. B. Stover
    11:14 am on December 18th, 2012

Siber H: Then would you please eat it and get the picture off of here.

  22. Rose
    11:18 am on December 18th, 2012

Siber-H: I know several of your kind who bring great comfort…Luna, Belle Starr, Kat. I think you would be wonderful at it.

  23. Barb & Maggie
    11:21 am on December 18th, 2012

Laughing here, Bear. Barb also thought it was a red cookie for days. LOL

Hate to admit this Bee, but Barb likes steak tartare. It has to be made with really good and fresh ground sirloin, and have some red onion, capers and salt and pepper on top. Yummers!

  24. Riö – The Evil Pug
    11:24 am on December 18th, 2012

Gross!…I sure hope Rebecca did not die of moose poisoning…gurgle!…She sounded rather ill last night…wheeze!

  25. Siber-H
    11:26 am on December 18th, 2012

Wose, Mom would never let me try to be a dog who comforts people. I am one of those aloof Sibers, but I did like the Royals when I met them. I would like you. I know I would.

Stover, lol I wish I could eat it.

  26. Masquers
    11:41 am on December 18th, 2012

The steak tartare…So…when it is gone we will know where it went.

  27. Siber-H
    11:44 am on December 18th, 2012

Perhaps moose head stew will be the next picture up there.

  28. B. Stover
    11:58 am on December 18th, 2012

Is steak tartar eaten raw or cooked? (In the picture it’s raw.) Yuck.

  29. Siber-H
    12:06 pm on December 18th, 2012

It is eaten raw. Mom also says yuck.

  32. Riö – The Evil Pug

Funny!…I over-heard the funniest thing this morning…snort!…Her mother said my friend can make Christmas dinner. She will just stay out of the kitchen….ho!ho!ho!…What a load of crap…heh!heh!

  33. dawson
    12:29 pm on December 18th, 2012

    Let me change the subject.
Prime Rib! There is a large prime rib in the freezer just waiting for Christmas. Oh boy!

  34. Rose
    12:36 pm on December 18th, 2012

    Siber-H, that feeling is mutual.

  35. Rose

Prime Rib, medium rare, the dinner of my dreams!

  36. Barb & Maggie
    12:46 pm on December 18th, 2012

Can’t beat Prime Rib! However, I think we are having turkey and all the trimmings.

One more comment about tartare for Bee. That is why it has to be very fresh. Otherwise bacteria could form. Sometimes if Barb is making a burger with fresh lean beef, she will take a little hunk and put salt and pepper on it and eat it raw. Not ground turkey though, that has to be cooked.

  37. Riö – The Evil Pug
    12:47 pm on December 18th, 2012

Ham!…We are going to have Honey Baked Ham…snorkel!…Now maybe someone can figure out the rest of the menu. What would Debbie LM do?…wheeze!

Zoe is awake! Less morphine. Using an IV tylenol drug for bone pain. That is helping. Yesterday she was convinced that she was in a NJ v e t clinic. She was concerned that they wouldn’t understand about two footed pain. She is releived to know she is in this hospital. Well, here she comes back from another MRI. I’ll be back after I get home.

Speaking for myself? I would rather have a less interesting life.

I am listening to TURTLEMAN. “He’s everywhere, he’s everywhere!” (Taken from Chickenman”

    Cool.

Turns out Zoë fell 15 feet onto the cement floor, dragged herself to the steps, up the stairs and opened the door while bleeding and in pain.

Jeeze Louise. Tired. Need to eat.

Oh wait, she said something about a redhead who kept coming in and out of focus, and very carefully giving her licks.

I also had that teacher when I was in high school. He was great. I was in the first class that girls were ‘allowed’ to take printing. There were three of us. (1965/6) We seniors had to take it with the 9th grade boys. We whipped their tiny little butts! Heh. And then in a fit of madness I fell ‘in love’ with the senior adviser for the class. He was the only one my age. sniff. That didn’t last. snicker.

    Hi Jim and Cate!

Oh Dawg, Fifteen feet is difficult to even think about.

Remarkable story about Zoe! 15 feet and still able to crawl. Amazing woman. So what in the hell was she doing up there? Do you keep Christmas deco up there? Or hide gifts maybe?

Hey everyone. Finally home from errands and catching up.

Bee – we don’t think you are going to like being a vegetarian if you don’t like raw food. Nothing worse than an over cooked salad.

Sammie – we hope your girl is home til your hair grows out.

Rio – Mama understands. Around here, it is usually Grp throwing the monkey wrench in.
Last week, during their 3 days home, there was a looooonnnngggg discussion about dinners for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It was decided by all three that Christmas Eve would be Finnan Haddie, and Christmas Day would be Lobster Newburgh. All decided. All approved. All done.
Then this morning as Mama was in her way out to do her errands in the very short time she has at home, Gramp started waffling. Did we really want fish two days in a row? Oh, it was fine with him, but were we sure it was ok?
And was it too much work? And was it too expensive?

Mama left before she ended up on Sant’s naughty list

  99. OleyHowlers
    7:23 pm on December 18th, 2012

Masquers, you asked about our “storm” which did not end up being a big deal, because it went further inland than models were showing early last week. The EPAWA guys kept saying that it was iffy between rain and snow, and we got rain darn it. But they never did call it a storm of the century. They called it a possible KU storm, which is short for Kocin-Uccellini. Those are the 2 guys who compiled a book detailing the history of winter storms on the east coast, so when they call something a “K-U Storm”, it means one for the history books.

So, staff, am I reading this correctly, that Turtleman’s story was on All Things Considered?

There was much debate today whether or not planes would be flying out of the village. I had a secured a place to sleep for the night just in case, but it was not needed. As the plane I was catching was landing I was told by the coordinator at the village terminial to staying in the building until the plane opened the door and they lowered the steps. At that point I was told to run to the plane and get on as fast as possible. I did and they brought the steps up and closed the door right behind me. Whew!

I am hungry which I guess is a good sign that I can stomach the thought of food. Last night each time I thought about food, my stomach flipped and flopped. (Insert Rio’s talk of moose here).

    Welcome, Cate!

Dawson said the Raven’s Woman is a tough bird, and taking flight from a 15 foot perch is proof positive.

MacyMinPin: I heard my brother on All Things Considered twice today. He is famous! He recently sold one of those restored printing presses to someone down in Georgia. He has a customer up in the Yukon who wanted it but was too late.

Hi Cate! Never mind the pug. Where’s Igby?

  113. Staff
    8:36 pm on December 18th, 2012

Macy, he was on Minnesota Public Radio but I don’t think it was specifically All Things Considered. I am not sure. He was on a show called…

    “MINNESOTA SOUNDS AND VOICES
This ongoing series produced by MPR News’ Dan Olson serves to capture memorable sounds, voices and images that reflect the culture of Minnesota.”

That quote was from the MPR website.

Rio: The plane, to door opened, the stairs came down, I went up, then the stais were brought in and the door closed. The planes was on the ground for probably less than two minutes.

Whew, I have just finished putting together the new desk chair. Would have been done 30 minutes ago, but I put the handles on backwards. (Don’t ask.)

I will have to tell Zoe about the 15 foot flight from her perch. snicker

I’m going to bed now. Tomorrow I’m going to see Zoe again but a shorter period of time. The dogs will be on their own tomorrow.

Masquers, Do you mean the storm that is suppose to hit Rio has a name and that name is Draco? This sounds like something out of a gothic horror novel.

We are only suppose to get the southern tail of the storm…cold temps and wind…bring it on.

  128. Riö - The Evil Pug

    Sammie!…No!

Rio, we have tins and tins of cookies here. Some are cute-loooking sugar cookies (angels, Santa, snowman, sleigh, star, yayda yada) and then we have the REAL THING: Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Now, my mom wants to know how you are getting to watch Downton Abby. She says we here have to wait until January for that great show.
Meantime: the rents are having Stone Smoked Porter tonight. They love love love it!

Avatars!…Yes, they are all showing now. Just a short-time glitch in Baker Media Software….snort!

Wrapping!…Well, my friend just finished wrapping a few gifts for our lovely neighbor…sniff!…She is a very nice southern lady who is always kind to me and Beau. Her only bad quality is that she thinks Beau is “just the cutest thing” because whenever she visits he sits in front of her and cocks his head back and forth – like he is trying to understand every word she is saying in that southern accent….grunt!…He is such a suck-up.

Got home from work to find my furnace making a terrible racket–the pump is going out. Furnace guy prefers waiting until tomorrow to fix and I prefer not paying for an emergency call out. So praying for furnace to last through the night. If it doesn’t, it will take a while before the house is cold but I don’t want my water pipes to freeze -37 tonight.

I have a space heater and will plug it in to keep the water pump in the garage warm if I need to. Afterall, I have blankets and 2 dogs to keep me warm. 10 hours until the furnace office opens. Furnace still working at the moment.

The Smoochers and I will be leaving in about 1/2 an hour for lightning bolt time. I am very glad that they all arrived safely considering all this talk of nasty weather. Kat immediately calmed me down with kisses, and I received a wonderful massage from Masquers.

Siber-H and Rio! Thanks for thinking of me. I love youse guys!
