Dog Days of Summer: All You Need to Know. And Way More!

“Is there going to be a quiz on this?” Spence says.

“Just the precession part,” says Admin.

“Can hardly wait.”

Welcome Rascal.

Gooood morning, everyone! Whoo hoo, days just for us! Mom wants to know if it is Saturday yet?

Need some Plunderer help. We received a wonderful passport (thanks, C Lawson!) but didn’t understand the instructions that came with it. Please somebody email spence.quinn@gmail.com and enlighten him.

    Hey!
Nice to get a shout out from Chet. I know he’ll get my name right eventually, heh, heh.

It’s August. Know what that means? The Iggy Chronicles, Volume One!

Now I have to go look at the new FOC, Rascal.

Chet and Admin – would love to help, but we only got as far as opening the envelope and seeing the gorgeous passport.
We know Dawson would like the outside envelope to be folded in a way that preserves the stamp and postmark, and mailed back to her. And we know that the passports were sent for no money to Dawson, but a suggested do action of $10 or more to Snowhook.

And now back to the work table. Mama leaves for her next show on Wednesday…..GAH!!!!!.

Interesting article. I, of course, immediately think of Sirius in the Harry Potter series. (His animagus is a black dog.) “Precession” is the wobble (love that word; it’s used in the article) that the earth makes as it rotates on its axis, similar to the motion of a spinning top.

Good Saturday (HOH’s mom) morning all.

B: you might enjoy this tale. On the release of book 3 of HP series, mom took Aretha (our first newf) to the bookstore/coffee shop @ midnight and told people she was “seriously black”. Made lots of new (and newf) friends that night.

Sorry to have to admit this, but we didn’t know that Dog Days was so tied to astronomy. Always thought it had to do with the summer heat making dogs too lazy to do anything except lay around in the shade.

Mom loves the Dog Days of Summer. I like them because it means we are getting that much closer to winter.

Rio, I haven’t been able to follow the Rockies games on the internet much because we have had an unusual number of electrical storms. I do know they finally won last night.

I hope I folded C. Larsen’s envelope correctly when I mailed it back to her.

    PUPPIES! Bess’s Great Grand Pups.

Totally zonked. Will catch up with all the new words and article later.

The puppies were ADORABLE! 6 weeks old. I’m hoping this will work, but you might have to watch it sideways.

Going to take a nap read for a bit.

C.Larson and or Noswad – we will make sure Mama sends the envelope back – as soon as she has a thought in her head. sigh

    “Seriously Black” – too funny.

Dilemma here – albeit a delicious one – the local VFW is doing a pig roast today. The promoter told the Storyteller about it a couple of weeks ago, but the tickets were kind of our of our league, especially since Mama wouldn’t have left Gramps home. So, they were planning a quick hamburg dinner so Mama could get taped back to her work table. Then there was a knock on the door.
Someone had purchased tickets for three, and asked the promoter to give them to a veteran who might not have gone otherwise. So guess where they are going this afternoon after all.
How nice of someone to do that – sniff.
Even if Mama is fussing a little bit over time lost from work. We think she should just bloody well get over it and be thankful.

C.Lawson, we are glad you got our envelope. We didn’t put it in the white outer envelope because we didn’t know about that part until Staff posted that later.
Melanie, those pups are so dang cute!
Dog Days has nothing to do with hot; if they did, they would arrive in June or July. By the time we get to Dog Days, things are cooling down, at least around here.
What else? We forget. We are getting company soon, including one our favorite little boys: Keo. After that, it is Weed Weekend!

We clicked on Melanie’s link and all we saw was a green box. Did that happen to anyone else?

Barb stopped at the library and ordered the 3rd Raine Stockton book. While she was talking to the reference librarian she suggested they order in Spencer Quinn’s books for the Woodstock library. She checked and said “Oh, we carry all of the Chet and Bernie series, they are just all checked out. They must be popular”. Barb had checked several times, and they are never on the shelf. That is good!

A Catty Librarian had some stamps made also. They are of Dad and Mom at a rally. Mom has a big sign attached to her walker that says: “World War II Vet for Peace”.
Thanks for everyone who answered Spencer Q’s question this morning. I did send him an email also.

At lunch she brought home a great big pizza from the good pizza place and made Beau’s day…heh!heh!…Speaking of Beau, he is off his meds and doing okay but is very stiff. Guess what just came in the mail! If you say “A Passport” you would be wrong, because we got TWO passports!. One is postmarked July 24th, and one is postmarked August 1st! They are both correctly addressed, but the first one has FWD stamped on the front. Assuming that means Forward. But who knows where it went first? That is a rhetorical question. We will use one for Barb and one for Maggie. Sorry you had to go to the extra trouble.

I am having a good day. Played with puppies, took a nap, went for a walk.

Our neighbors on the corner have moved, but have not sold the house here. We get to see them whan they come up to mow the 11 acres. Had a nice talk, continued on my walk.

As I came back they had ceated a free pile. I got a book for the auction – when is that, anyway – and tried something out. Went back home and told Zoë, you know how you get an idea, and it’s either wonderful or is terrible?

You can use any old envelope you want to send the stamped envelope back to me AND you can fold the stamped envelope or not fold it – that part is NOT important. The important part is to send the stamped envelope that the passport came in back to me.

Barb&Maggie: If you go to meet a Plunderer you bring your passport. They will have a stamp or a sticker or a pawprint or a thumbprint to stamp your passport just like a passport is stamped when you cross a border. Each Plunderer is responsible for getting their own personal stamp, sticker, thumbprint or pawprint. I did send Stover a wonderful “B” that I found but I am not buying every Plunderer a stamp. I do not have any more spare passports…just saying.

One more thing before I head up the stairs.
This came in from one of our neighbors.

    “Dogs Welcome”

A man wrote a letter to a small hotel in a Midwest town he planned to visit on his vacation. He wrote: I would very much like to bring my dog with me.
He is well-groomed and very well behaved.
Would you be willing to permit me to keep him in my room with me at night?

An immediate reply came from the hotel owner, who wrote:
SIR: “I’ve been operating this hotel for many years. In all that time, I’ve never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes, silverware or pictures off the walls.
I’ve never had to evict a dog in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly.
And I’ve never had a dog run out on a hotel bill.
Yes, indeed, your dog is welcome at my hotel.
And, if your dog will vouch for you, you’re welcome to stay here, too.

Always come back Kat. We get all poodled up.

The Catty Librarian told me the inside story of finding Scout. They had reports of her whereabouts and went to the field where she was reported. They saw her. Scout was so scared she started to run away again. Christy’s friend had his dog along and he and Scout are good friends. They let his dog off the leash and he ran over to Scout and she was so glad to see her dog buddy that she came to him. He (I wish I knew his name) led Scout back to them. When Scout got close enough he saw it was Christy and he jumped all over her. (Just like those video’s of dogs greeting their owners who have been away on deployment.)
The picture of Christy and Scout was taken after Scout was done jumping all over her.

Got my pronouns mixed up. Scout is a her.

The next time Alice gets out I will try howling. What do you think?

Scared!…And alone!…snort!…That is what my friend keeps telling me and Beau if we ever left the back yard without her…sniff!…We would be scared and alone. I don’t believe it! I would be happy and free and I would have my little knapsack all packed full of bacon and stuff…sniff!…It would be GREAT!…heh!…Plus, I have ONE passport now. I can go anywhere legally….chuffle!

Good news that Kat has been found!
Staff, I do not believe howling would work for Alice but salmon bonbons might.

    Usual news…the Rockies lost again.

    night all

Kat: I’m glad your safe and back at home. My Lady has been known to get us to do a kennel howl to bid a wayward dog home.

    Nighty noodles.
