Good morning all.
Happy Birthday, CHobbit. And many mooore…..
Hope everyone in Alaska is safe (and everywhere else, of course.)
9:13 am on September 27th, 2014
Beautiful quilt room, Staff. So happy you are feeling better.

Happy Birthday, Hobbit!!!!! Many many more!
Good morning, everyone.
Yuck to that spider thing. No how. No way.
9:19 am on September 27th, 2014
Good morning, BB, OH and everyone! NO! Don’t need that, and since it appears to be Texas where carrying guns is more legal than most places, they are just lucky that someone didn’t shoot Fido 🙁
Now then to Hobbit:
Whoo hoo yodel howl.
Whoo hoo yodel howl.
Whoo hoo dear Hobbit.
Whoo hoo yodel howl.
Have a scrumptious Saturday.
9:19 am on September 27th, 2014
Actually the guy did a credible job and no animals were hurt in the making of the video. But really, where do people come up with these weird ideas?
Have to go back and see Staff’s new room.
Off to Home Goods for some wall decor and Bath and Body to get some fall scents.
Have a wonderful, trouble free day.
9:20 am on September 27th, 2014
Greetings!
Hey, there Billy’s Buddy!
I saw the video posted above on the news. Freaky! Why would anyone want to do that to their dog, I ask you?
Hope all of my Alaskan family are safe.
GOOGLE doodle celebrates its birthday.
RIO! You and HRH, B are making me want to read the book youse are reading. It sounds like my kind of book. I will probably buy it this weekend.
WHO’S A BIRTHDAY GIRL TODAY?! Our very best friend and hostess with the mostest, C. HOBBIT!!!
WosenGrizz wishing you the happiest of birthdays!
9:22 am on September 27th, 2014
I hope Staff and DDD are feeling closer to tip-top.
Staff, your room is quite lovely!
9:27 am on September 27th, 2014
Had to come back to say the Quilt Room is beautiful. It looks like you have more cabinetry on the left side of the room. Is it matching to the right side cabinet?
We said Happy Birthday to Hobbit yesterday, but one can never have too many birthday wishes, so again HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOBBIT! Do something fun on your special day.
9:28 am on September 27th, 2014
Wose, the DDD is a resiliant old fart and is back working today. Thanks for askng.
9:30 am on September 27th, 2014
I wonder what the poor dog thinks is happening. (Like Ron Weasley, I don’t like spiders.)
Rio: I have Beside Ourselves on my Kindle. I’m going to try to get to it tonight. (I laughed out loud at the example you posted when the guy poured juice in his coffee cup and then salted it.)
Happy Birthday C.Hobbit.
9:40 am on September 27th, 2014
For Spence and Admin: Since Derek Jeter is finishing his playing career in Boston, this one’s for you. Hope it works.

Off to work….
10:45 am on September 27th, 2014
Good morning, family.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HOBBIT!!!!
Was that last earthquake a result of Sadie jumping up and down in celebration?
Lovely warm day here- in the 80’s. We may just have to go sit and sunbathe on the back deck.
11:08 am on September 27th, 2014
Sunbathing on the back deck? With or without bears? or bares? (tee hee)
11:17 am on September 27th, 2014
Rebecca, I missed your birthday! I need to read the blog every day. I am sure it was a happy one. Hobbit, Happy Birthday to you! I wish I’d paid more attention when Melanie was making those great cakes on the blog. Anyhow, I am sure she is thinking great thoughts for both of you.
Rio, you sent a lovely picture of the Northern Lights. Thank you so much. Dan
proposed to me under the Northern Lights which thoughtfully visited Chicago and Lake Michigan where we were having a campfire in fall of 1949.
Mac and Mattie ran day before yesterday, they are still sleeping it off. Love to all, Zoe
11:38 am on September 27th, 2014
Zoe, we really miss those cakes Melanie made for the blog.
It is in the 80s here today too. The ‘rents and their horses just finished a somewhat warm ride. Now they are getting out a suitcase!!! We hate when that happens. 🙁
11:53 am on September 27th, 2014
Happy Birthday, CHOBBIT!
Saturday, my favorite day… In my mom’s lap. She is reading “Mr. Penumbra’s 24-hour Bookstore” by Robin Sloan. She says she likes it. All I care about is how wonderful it is to be on her lap.
May your special day be as wonderful as mine!
12:17 pm on September 27th, 2014
There is growing concern here…it has never taken the talented M. Baker this long to fix a problem on the blog…Yeep!
Happiest of B-Days, once again in the light of day, to our favorite Hobbit!
12:24 pm on September 27th, 2014
Asking for some prayers here. Sage has been acting kind of quiet for a couple days. Today, he has refused all food, including his favorite yogurt. He is drinking lots of water, and is just laying around breathing hard.
We are currently at the vet ER, and they have him in back.
Please keep positive thoughts for our little boy.
12:34 pm on September 27th, 2014
O’Howlers! Yay for the ‘rents! A Suitcase Sighting…maybe not so good for youse, but Great for them!
Hi, Zoe and Mac & Mattie.
Hello to Scout too.
C.Hobbit: We wished you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY in the wee morning hours but, like Barb&Magpie said, you can’t have too many Good Wishes.
Have a Wonderful Day!
Good Morning to some of youse…Good Afternoon to the rest.
Happy Sunday to Liz in the Land of Oz.
Sage’s Mama: Just read about Sage being at the ER. Masquers and I are sending Strong Prayers and Holding Positive Thoughts for our friend.
12:46 pm on September 27th, 2014
Sage: I make a great pillow.
12:50 pm on September 27th, 2014
Sage, of all the kitty kats we or mom have met, you rank right up there with the grand kats. You are in our pawrayers. Dog help you 🙂 Also hope the Golinka is ok through this.
12:53 pm on September 27th, 2014
Sage, please be well. We are holding you in our thoughts.
Another earthquake…Jeez Louise.
Barb, about the cabinets. They are matching on both sides of the big window. I tried to get a picture but the light from that south facing window is too bright.
It is a lovely day here also except for the mosquitoes. Most of the year we had hardly any mosquitoes. When I came back from the TOGA a week ago it was a mosquito feeding frenzy. If I go out into the garden I wear a hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and long pants. It is crazy out there right now. As far as I am concerned the garden is off limits till frost.
12:57 pm on September 27th, 2014
…”drinking lots of water”. I wonder if Sage is diabetic. A Catty Librarians Fatty Kitty had diabetes. He got to have shots. A Catty became very good at it.
BStover I have a question. Does the punctuation mark go inside or outside the quotes? It is looking funny to me.
1:05 pm on September 27th, 2014
Staff, glad you are here in “normal” hours. We want to tell you how gorgeous your quilt room is 🙂 We love it!
1:19 pm on September 27th, 2014
Positive thoughts and prayers for Sage. Please keep us posted.
About the tarantula dog…No, We don’t need that but it is a very well made costume.
Mom likes tarantulas…says they are rather cute and furry. Me, I have never seen a tarantula. Mom wants to keep it that way.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR HOBBIT!!!!
1:21 pm on September 27th, 2014
Sending good thoughts to Sage and his family.
Thanks everyone for the b-day wishes. I wish I could go out and eat a nice meal but I am trying to stay on my food protocol. Don’t know why dieting is so much harder the second time around.
The plan is to putter around in my garage today and hopefully start painting the walls so I can park the car inside. Winter is coming….
1:29 pm on September 27th, 2014
Winter is coming……
the goose is getting fat,
please to put a penny in the old man’s hat.
If you haven’t got a penny a h’penny will do.
If you haven’t got a h’penny then god bless you!
1:40 pm on September 27th, 2014
Still waiting…..
This is NOT something we do well.
1:44 pm on September 27th, 2014
Lots of loving thoughts going to Sage and his mama and the rest of his family.
HOH: I love that “ditty.”
1:48 pm on September 27th, 2014
Staff: The “rules” are complicated but in your example the period should go inside the quotation marks.
1:49 pm on September 27th, 2014
Staff: Forgot–That is, if you are following the Modern Language Association citation rules.
1:52 pm on September 27th, 2014
HOH: Kool little ditty.
Sage’s Mama: Waiting with you.
Getting ready to head south for tonight’s game.
1:54 pm on September 27th, 2014
Sage, please feel better soon. We are very worrit about you, and we feel for your mama. Waiting and woorying makes for an awful time.
Staff, we also love your quilt room. It looks like a wonderful place to hang out.
Hobbit, you are Mom’s hero, and she is going to be tapping you for advice when she reaches her maintenance stage.
Speaking of…she put on the outfit Sage’s mama helped her pick out for the Seattle wedding. The cheap elastic belt she bought to wear with it falls right off!! Pop had to put a big safety pin in it and she has to keep her tunic over it. She always keeps that on anyway. What a nice problem to have, eh?
2:00 pm on September 27th, 2014
Greetings to all and strong prayers for Sage. For now, just that–strong prayers and waiting.
2:28 pm on September 27th, 2014
Waiting is the worst! Strong prayers going out to Sage and his mama.
3:30 pm on September 27th, 2014
Strong WosenGrizz prayers and healing thoughts going out to Sage and his mum.
3:49 pm on September 27th, 2014
O’Howlers: Congrats to your mama. She puts me to shame in the exercise and activity sphere but I recently joined a gym so am ramping up my fitness.
So on my b-day, I bought Sadie a new dog bed for her dog igloo. She pulls out very bed or pad I’ve put in so I thought this big circular one would be ideal. I laid it on the deck and before I could snip off the tags and shove it in the igloo, she laid on it and declared it “MINE, MINE, MINE.” I went inside the house thinking she would follow me and I could then slip outside and finish the task but nothing doing. 15 minutes later she still won’t be separated from her new bed. (Will lure her with food later.) Unfortunately, I know how determined she is and once it is place, she will probably work it to death until she pulls it outside.
4:17 pm on September 27th, 2014
At least Sadie approves of the new bed and her attitude isn’t pi$$ on it 🙂
4:30 pm on September 27th, 2014
Thinking of Sage and his family. Worrit.
5:58 pm on September 27th, 2014
Ok, Sage is home. For now. Blood tests came back “strange” is how the vet put it. She is sending them to a pathology lab for more info. His X-rays showed his intestines were completely empty, which is not a good thing. She wanted to keep him for the weekend (at $650.00 per night). She also said his temp was ok and he was not in pain. There were no masses or obstructions visible. So they gave him some subcutaneous fluids and let him come home.
When we got here, he got the once over from the Corgis and Basil. He ate a couple of spoonfuls of yogurt and then curled up to sleep in his favorite chair.
The blood work won’t be back til Tuesday, so we are kind of on pins and needles til then
Thanks for your support and prayers. They certainly helped me.
6:02 pm on September 27th, 2014
Book!….Wow!…We have spent most of the afternoon reading that book. That awesome book…snort!…I am happy to hear that Stover will be following in my pawprints soon. I will not be able to say anything about the story because of this. Just know that it is an amazing story…snuffle!
6:06 pm on September 27th, 2014
Rio: You can post about Beside Ourselves. Just put a warning at the beginning.
6:06 pm on September 27th, 2014
Dammit!…I am having trouble posting comments on this here blog…grunt!…Is everyone else having issues or is it just my connection?….wheeze!
6:07 pm on September 27th, 2014
Story!…Nope. I cannot post about it in any shape or form without giving away too much…snort!
6:09 pm on September 27th, 2014
Sage!…Kats have nine lives right? Sage hasn’t used up any of his so I am betting he will be fine just in time for Golinka to receive that big v-e-ts bill…grunt!
6:17 pm on September 27th, 2014
Sage, Get well guy…eat.
We will keep you in our prayers.
Rio, I am not having trouble posting, but the blog can take forever to refresh for me some of the time.
6:20 pm on September 27th, 2014
I got a flu shot yesterday and except for having a very sore arm, I am having no problems at all from it.
6:22 pm on September 27th, 2014
$650 a night? I think that is more expensive than in Alaska and that is saying something. Sage is in good paws at home.
I couldn’t access the comments for a few minutes. I could tell people were posting as the numbers were going up but I just got a blank page when I clicked on the link. I hope it is only a glitch and not the beginning of a crash.
6:24 pm on September 27th, 2014
Sage eats yogurt. Pookey eats yogurt. Perhaps they are interspecies twins? (Some days that is all she will eat!)
6:25 pm on September 27th, 2014
Blog has been stubborn here today too. I just fighered it was our innerweb service.
6:33 pm on September 27th, 2014
Birthday!…Wishes for CHobbit!…snort!snort!

6:50 pm on September 27th, 2014
Rio: That is another great card!
Sage: Get better, Sweetie. (I hope you will let me call you Sweetie.)
Don’t know why, but I have been reading the Dishlickers Cookbook for the last two days. It is 80 degrees here, but the soup recipes look wonderful to me. I made a huge batch of my thrown-together chicken/veggie/noodle soup yesterday.
6:53 pm on September 27th, 2014
CHobbit, Rio is your favorite too? Even after all the trouble he caused and the mess he made in your hotel?
6:57 pm on September 27th, 2014
MollysMaw!…All that is water under the Hobbit Hotel bridge…snort!
6:57 pm on September 27th, 2014
Lucky Hobbit to get such a fun card! Rio must really like you 🙂
6:58 pm on September 27th, 2014
Plus!…The way I remember it Sadie was mostly responsible for any messes….snort!
7:22 pm on September 27th, 2014
Memory!…Is an amazing thing. It can change at my whim….snorkel!
7:26 pm on September 27th, 2014
Yep, memory. Mom remembers lugging your pugly backsde around Massachusetts 🙂
7:42 pm on September 27th, 2014
Ha, ha. Rio may have gotten under my skin and into my heart but I try not to have favorites at the Hobbit Hotel.
The day went from cloudy to sunny so I am happy. Sadie is trying to remove her new dog bed from the igloo but so far she has just stuffed up the opening.
7:42 pm on September 27th, 2014
Subject!…Memory. I have learned a lot about it from my now second most favorite author, Karen Joy Fowler. She is right behind and maybe a little below The Charming Mr. Abrahams….snort!
7:44 pm on September 27th, 2014
CHobbit!….The birthday girl and I have posted at the same time…WOOOO!….That has to be a good sign of her favoritism of me!me!me!…heh!
7:55 pm on September 27th, 2014
HOH – Sage likes anything in the dairy line – cottage cheese, yogurt, ice cream, and his very special personal favorite – whipped cream. Scientist have determined that Kats do no have taste receptors for “sweet”, so they don’t care about dessert type goodies. We say, those scientists have never met Sage the Sugar Loving Kat.
Hobbit – the Vet ER hospital charges $150.00 to walk in the door. Ever single thing that happens adds a charge. When animals stay overnight, they have their own personal nurse who stays awake, by their side. We just didn’t think we needed to spend $1300.00 for 24 hour nursing and IV fluids on top of what we had already spent today to not get answers. Sage seems content and is resting easy at home.
Rio – a memory is a terrible thing to waste.
8:02 pm on September 27th, 2014
Sage’s Mama, we too have an ER for the critters here. We jokingly say it is $300 to walk in the door.
8:10 pm on September 27th, 2014
CHobbit, does Sadie get into her igloo? Does she like it? What does she lay on when she’s “in the doghouse”?
8:22 pm on September 27th, 2014
Golinka!…But I remember all my memories…snort!…Not one is wasted, no not any…heh!heh!
8:22 pm on September 27th, 2014
Blog!…This blog is acting like it does not want me to post…grump!
8:31 pm on September 27th, 2014
Rio, then I’m sure you haven’t wasted any memories of being here with Loulou. You certainly had a lot of bandages on you.
8:43 pm on September 27th, 2014
Rio –
Heh heh heh.

Whose avatar is beside TMGs? I can’t make it out.
9:04 pm on September 27th, 2014
Best wishes to Sage to get better. I am sure it is better for him to be home rather that at the Vet’s all night.
9:08 pm on September 27th, 2014
Goats!….I have no memory of that avatar either SiberH…grunt!…It looks like a KAT though – maybe…heh!
9:08 pm on September 27th, 2014
Happy belated birthday to the Pixie and happy day-of birthday to the Hobbit! (we’ve been off grid due to technical difficulties)
Wose – check you SDD, please and thank you.
Sage – sending warm thoughts to you and your humans, wishing you well.
Sorry, goats. That was funny. Someone left the gate to your pen open…
Sleep well Everybody.
9:10 pm on September 27th, 2014
Kats!…In Ka-hoots with the Goats…grunt!…That would not surprise me at all…wheeze!
9:11 pm on September 27th, 2014
Blu-Kat!…You are the only trust-worthy Kat on this blog right now…sneeze!
9:11 pm on September 27th, 2014
Rio: it is YOU, it is always YOU, forever and ever (next to Sadie). Hobbit Hotel mascot and pet.
HOH: Sadie doesn’t have a “time out” spot–she just needs to not be near me for awhile when she has been a bad dog. She has been in the dog igloo and I am sure she will appreciate it more when there is snow on the ground. She is one lucky dog because she also has a doghouse in her dog yard built my the Giant. I just need to stuff it with straw and it will be good for the colder temps.
In the meantime, the igloo now has a tongue complements of Sadie’s efforts to remove her new dog bed. I don’t know whether she does this out of boredom or something else. Up north she would pull out everything in the garage pen to the outside pen no matter how cold it was. Poor Lady had to sleep on her pillow if she didn’t want Sadie to haul it outside.
9:14 pm on September 27th, 2014
I just noticed via FB that there is a whole mess of Plunder b-days coming up. Is there a master list of them somewhere?
9:26 pm on September 27th, 2014
Rio, I also think the goats’ avatar looks like a Kat.
9:27 pm on September 27th, 2014
CHobbit!…We posted at the same time AGAIN!…snort!…Proof Pawsitive that I am your most favorite of all…heh!
9:34 pm on September 27th, 2014
Rest well, my fuzzy little friend. My mom thinks I may be diabetic. If we both should turn out to be would we be twins. With a KAT!?!?! Oh forgive my manners, this was supposed to be a get well message.
9:48 pm on September 27th, 2014
Going nighty nachos here since tomorrow is the big trip to the county fair.
10:00 pm on September 27th, 2014
Nachos!…Now there’s a good idea…chuffle!…We just turned to the Rockies vs Dodgers game and food is on my mind and not in my stomach…grumble!wheeze!
10:01 pm on September 27th, 2014
Book!…I am wondering if Stover is reading that most excellent book right now…wuffle!
10:23 pm on September 27th, 2014
Sage and family–I am somewhat relieved that Sage is home and taking nourishment. Magnus used to eat mashed yams when he couldn’t tolerate anything else (also pumpkin) in case that’s helpful.
Happy Happy Birthday and Belated Birthday–I’m so sorry but I’ve been slightly overwhelmed lately and haven’t been checking in like I should–doesn’t mean the good wishes are in any way less.
Rio–On your recom I am also reading completely Beside and enjoying it. In return may I recommend The Rosie Project (Simsion) and two cozies: The Chihuahua of the Baskervilles (Allbritton)–not great, but cute and set in Colorado; and
with One Lousy Free Packet of Seed (Truss) funny and bizarre.
I’m off to live dangerously by cooking an underripe eggplant…Sleep well Sage, I hope you’re tip-top soon.
10:39 pm on September 27th, 2014
Diane!…What part and chapter have you reached in Completely Beside?…sniff!…This is important because then I will know if you know what I am waiting for you to know…grunt!…And you will not know this till you reach Part Two, Chapter 5…snort!
10:42 pm on September 27th, 2014
Cozies!…I do not have the time or patience for cozies or anything “not great” or even just “cute”.. No thank you…grunt! sniff!
11:09 pm on September 27th, 2014
Author!…I think i just posted on my new found author’s blog, I told her I would die for her. That is how much I loved her most recent novel. NO I did not…heh!
11:13 pm on September 27th, 2014
Rio–Then read the Lousy Packet of Seed one–well worth your time. Am currently in Ch. 1 of Part 2 of Beside Ourselves and hope to catch up to you a little later tonight. (I also have an “Avoid like the Plague” booklist if anyone cares…
11:14 pm on September 27th, 2014
Gaaah! I just looked at the spider thing and now I’m really sorry I did…
11:17 pm on September 27th, 2014
Rio – we think your new beloved author should be introduced to you in little, baby steps. You are, after all, quite a lot to take in with your magnificent Puginess.
Sage is curled up asleep in his cuddly blanket. Hoping he will eat more tomorrow.
That’s it for us tonight. G’night, family.
11:24 pm on September 27th, 2014
Sage!…I’m glad he is comfortable tonight…even if he is a Kat…sniff!…Comfort is my mainstay in life.

BStover. Ah Thank you? hahahahaha. I ALWAYS follow the Modern Language Rules. Every time!
Rio I have taken your advice (Oh why do I believe you in this) and purchased Completely Beside onto Mr.Staff’s Kindle. Since we have completely opposite taste in TV shows I am somewhat apprehensive, but I did see that it won a zillion awards last year so we shall have faith in you.
12:11 am on September 28th, 2014
I appreciate all the positive comments on the quilt room. please be advised that I am only showing you the clean parts. If you wish to imagine the rest imagine a the aftermath of a tornado in a quilt store

Heh, here is one tiny little bit, carefully cropped, that is up too high to show much mess.

Staff!…On this one, I would never lead you astray…snorkel!…Profound and amazing. My pug heart hurts. I cannot tell you if it hurts in a good way or a bad way because I do not want to let you in on any story secrets…sniffle! …You have to make that journey on your own…sniff!
