Good morning, everyone! Question about the article. Dog’s left and right or percieved left and right? We are confused.
    Monday…mid-autumn Monday!

“Dexter”? I know that there is a tv show of that name that I’ve never watched but what does it refer to in today’s title?

The article is interesting and some of the comments crack me up.

HOH: One of the comments states that it’s the dog’s right or left not the watcher’s right or left.

    Good morning all.

Interesting article. Will require some more astute observation of the nation within.

Yes, we need to hear from Rose and Wolfie. Barb says she will email Wolfie this morning. Not sure we have Rose’s email address.

Barb says she is getting a building permit this morning. Not sure what it is all about, but she says my backyard is going to get bigger and I will like it.

OMD. I know this one. Dexter is right and sinister is left. I know this ’cause mom’s left handed and she’s always known left was thought to be sinister.

Oh, Wolfie. May your soul be at peace again.

Best wishes to Everybody for the week.

I learned a new word. (Thank you Spence.) “Dexter” is an adjective and means “located on the right side.” In heraldry it refers to the side of the shield on the wearer’s right. An obsolete definition is auspicious or favorable and it is derived from Latin “dexteritas” meaning skilled. We get “dexterity” from the same word.

One meaning of “sinister” is on the left side. It’s derived from Latin “sinister” meaning on the left or unlucky. Somewhere along the way it got the meaning of threatening or evil. Interesting.

Barb is a leftie too. Now we know that she is also threatening and evil. Wow, who knew!

HOH, Barb says it is not exactly building, but more like fence moving. A building permit is still required by the city of Woodstock. More money for them!

  15. Tupper and Gilly

Statistics say that globally only 12% of the world’s population is left handed, and that although population numbers have increased dramatically, the percentage of lefties has remained constant.

Being left handed, Mama is always curious about the subject. For example, she likes to see if there is a higher leftie percentage per set population – for example, artists at a specific show, diners in a restaurant, etc.

So, can we ask – how many Plunderers are lefties. So far we can count:
    Spencer Quinn
    BlueCat
    Tupper’s Mama

And Wolfie – you are a Plunderer – now and forever. You needn’t ever feel so alone that your soul echoes. Plunderers don’t let Plunderers echo alone.

  16. Tupper and Gilly
    9:49 am on November 4th, 2013

    Correction: Lefties are now:
    Spencer Quinn
    BlueCat
    Tupper’s Mama
    Barb,, Maggie’s Mom

  17. B. Stover
    10:00 am on November 4th, 2013

“Left” is derived from Old English “left” which meant idle, weak, useless.

    This is from Dictionary.com:

“The L. word was used in augury in the sense of ‘unlucky, unfavorable’ (omens, especially bird flights, seen on the left hand were regarded as portending misfortune), and thus sinister acquired a sense of ‘harmful, unfavorable, adverse.’ This was from Gk. influence, reflecting the early Gk. practice of facing north when observing omens; in genuine Roman auspices, the left was favorable. Bend (not “bar”) sinister in heraldry indicates illegitimacy and preserves the lit. sense of ‘on the left side.'”

That must be where the sense of “born on the left side of the blanket” comes from. (Note: I ended a sentence with a preposition.)

Our Lady says Lefty was easy to name. He assures me it is because of the spot on his left ear and nothing to do with being sinister. I, of course, am an angel.

  20. B. Stover
    10:06 am on November 4th, 2013

Anyway, “left/sinister” is, as T&G point out, due to the fact that the majority of people are right-handed, making that “normal.” This proves the human tendency of thinking that something “different” is “abnormal” and therefore suspicious.

    But language is fun!

We have been reading about lefthandedness all morning. While it appears that 8% of women are lefties, men comprise 12%.

But in the four legged world, lefties and righties are just about 50/50.

What does that say about the “superiority” of two leggeds?

Oh, for the record, I found out yesterday that I can steal a glove off my Lady’s hand even when I’m lying down in my dog house. It is something I’ve wanted to try for a long time. The opportunity presented itself when I was taking a nap inside my house. My Lady thought she could give me a snuggle with hopes my sleepiness would cause me to have manners—rookie mistake. She had a glove on her hand when she put it inside my dog house, but not when she pulled it out of my dog house.

I think that is all the things I have forgotten for the day. Unless there are one or two more. I’m off to finish an Alexander McCall Smith book, 44 Scotland Street series, excellent as usual.

Once again – just catching up. It has been such a busy day and now we are in bed early. Mama works at the polls, morning shift, so they have to be up at 5, which in her book is just criminal.

What? We can’t make up our own words on this here blog. We thought non-sequitureous was pretty good, even if the otter just about popped his cork over that one.

    Rio – cool tree.
    Staff – cool feather

And the rest of you – good night

What is this? My very, most special, best friend, Wose was treated badly. This makes me so mad! This also makes my Two-legged so made, I heard her upset, Rio words from the top of the world.

Wose: I’m glad Grizz will be with you tomorrow. Head bumps.

Wio: My Two-legged loves your Never Again tree!

Thanks for the review, Rio. Mom says it sounds promising. The network has not given it a good time slot so I hope it can make it for a full season. Someone in the house should buy a recorder.
That would solve problems like this one.

I think Rio’s friend’s tree would sell well if the public could see it. Maybe the tree would get easier to make if she made several of them.

There are 3 guys from Chicago sitting in the stands with perfect renditions of Cheese Graters on their heads….hoooo!Haaa!….Beau got a huge guffaw out of that shot!…chorkel!…I have to admit, it was pretty darn funny…snort!

I’m completely new to operating a blog but I do write in my diary every day.
I’d like to start a blog so I can share my own experience and thoughts online.
Please let me know if you have any ideas or tips for
