Am I first?
What a heartbreaking report. sob
And people say animals don’t feel.
9:18 am on June 13th, 2014
Good morning, Wose and everyone! People who say aminals, and dogs in particular, are just as bigoted as a sexist or a racist (in OUR canine opinion). We laugh and pout and mourn and bring joy to our people.
Have a furry, feathery, finny Friday 🙂
9:45 am on June 13th, 2014
Olly, olly, oxen free. It is safe to come out on the blog. We won’t let mom post any stupid frog jukes today.
9:53 am on June 13th, 2014
A sad story.
Good morning all.
10:02 am on June 13th, 2014
Very sad story. What happened to the shooter? Wonder if Danny had an understanding about what happened to his partner.
HOH, thank you! BTW, Barb said when she was a kid they used to yell “Ally, ally outs in free” at the end of Hide & Seek. Meaning anyone still hiding could come in without penalty. “Oxen free” doesn’t make a lot of sense.
10:08 am on June 13th, 2014
HOH, just looked it up and evidently both phrases are used in children’s games.
10:12 am on June 13th, 2014
Herd has also heard “All’s out’s in free”.
10:13 am on June 13th, 2014
Today’s Story is very Sad.
I almost didn’t see it…being stuck back there in Yesterday…about to respond to posts like it was NOW.
Maggie: The Hound’s Version does sound rather Familiar and no it doesn’t make much sense, does it.
10:26 am on June 13th, 2014
Funny how phrases evolve over time and cultures. An example would be “Ring around the rosie”. This seems like a harmless kid’s rhyme but it really began in the dark ages during the bubonic plague. The last line then was “Achoo, achoo, we all fall down”, mimmicing the effects of the plague.
10:44 am on June 13th, 2014
Yeeep!….Another day to avoid the blog…grunt!
Maskers!…Did you catch up on Fargo? Did your whiskers catch on fire while you were watching it???…snort!…What are yer thoughts?
10:55 am on June 13th, 2014
Rio – if you avoid the blog, how can I harass you and your curly little tail?
11:06 am on June 13th, 2014
Sage!…Just the thought of you is harassment enough…grunt!
11:12 am on June 13th, 2014
Rio – I dedicate my howl last night to you, you, you!
11:19 am on June 13th, 2014
Good morning all–Also moved by today’s top story. With whom will Danny work now?
HOH and B and M–In my childhood it was also “Ally ally oxen free” even thought it was senseless–no one questioned, just yelled it.
HOH–The Plague! One of my earliest interests, but I hadn’t heard about “Achoo Achoo” before. Had heard that “ring a ring o(f) rosies” (or “ring around the rosies”) referred to the shape and color of the swelling buboes, and that “pocket full of posies” was abut carrying flowers to help fight off the smell from the sick. (We can all figure out “All fall down”)
Wose–Did I hear “drug” and “cocktail” in the same phrase? (It’s like reliving my favorite parts of the 1960s!) I hope you get something really enjoyable and effective (and no side effects).
I hope T and G’s Mom is enjoying a restful sleep and respite at home. (So T and G let her B and be prepared to run interference with any difficult patients.)
I’m off for an adopt-a-pet charitable thing for my local Animal Assistance League today, which remind me to ask about C Hob’s new houseguest–I hope things are improving.
Everyone be well–If you’re planning on howling again tonight please let me know–I’ll show Conan how to use a keyboard and he can add his bell-like tones…Ciao for now.
11:31 am on June 13th, 2014
This is the last time in our lifetimes that we will have a full moon on Friday the 13th. Next one I believe is in 2049, 35 years from now. Barb and I will both be long gone!
We had read that, too, about Ring Around the Rosies. I guess the Ashes, ashes derived from Achoo, achoo. Such a sweet little children’s song.
Front grass is cut, some roofing is being done. All in all, a productive day.
11:37 am on June 13th, 2014
We just went back and read the posts from late last night. See that Amalia already announced the 2049 detail.
Wolfie, Evidently some conservative religious groups say that the earth is only 6-7,000 years old. That must be where Cody got that info. Barb follows the scientific theories.
11:44 am on June 13th, 2014
It is our understanding that Friday the 13th is bad luck. Rio has also led us to believe that a black pug crossing your path is bad luck, too. This can’t be true. We’ve seen Beau plenty of times and we haven’t been caught for half our misdeeds, and just a couple of nights ago Golinka said she loved us. We are still blushing through our fur from Golinka’s comment.
11:47 am on June 13th, 2014
Another sweet children’s song is Alouette, je the plumerai. It’s about pulling all of a lark’s feathers out.
11:54 am on June 13th, 2014
And just think about the stuff the brothers Grimm wrote. Their names surely fit 🙂
Disney, of course, sugarcoated it all.
12:00 pm on June 13th, 2014
Plus London Bridge falling down…
12:06 pm on June 13th, 2014
Gosh, you humans have lots of fun! A laugh a minute.
12:10 pm on June 13th, 2014
And that stupid Jack broke his crown. We won’t even talk about that klutzy egg. I mean really. If you were encased in a fragile shell, would you be climbing on walls. Of course not.
Pfffttt
12:12 pm on June 13th, 2014
Linda!….Check your SDD when you get a moment off from Lurking…snort!
12:25 pm on June 13th, 2014
And what about that pawsitive little bedtime pawrayer…if I should die before I wake? Gosh, no wonder 2 legger puppies don’t sleep well.
12:34 pm on June 13th, 2014
Before heading back to the garden, how about the Sottish pawrayer: from ghosties and ghoulies and long legged beasties and things that go bump in the night, good Lord, deliver us”?
Gosh do all 2 legger cultures try to frighten children into behaving?
12:36 pm on June 13th, 2014
12:38 pm on June 13th, 2014
Much luckier than some on Fargo. Yeep! Can this show get any more intense?!
12:43 pm on June 13th, 2014
Riö! We were holding our breath through every scene. Besides not wanting the show to end…I’m with you on the prospect of a 90 minute finale…don’t know if our hearts can take it.
12:45 pm on June 13th, 2014
Maskers!… I will have to SDD you my thoughts on Lester at this point….snort!…I do not want to give away any Spoilers to the rest who watch this show…wheeze!
1:21 pm on June 13th, 2014
Please NO SPOILER. We hope to watch the ending of Fargo when it storms later. In the meantime, we are scarit to read the blog.
Mom willingly went to the place that clips nails for 2-leggeds. Gasp!
Poor Danny. Sob
1:25 pm on June 13th, 2014
Sniff…This is a sad story, but an important one for people to be aware of.
Rio, umm, No, I am not watching Fargo. I need for you to get clairvoyant and tell me before a new series starts whether or not I will like it so I can watch it from the beginning.
It was a good baseball game yesterday.
1:27 pm on June 13th, 2014
I like the huge photo Spence posted.

2:11 pm on June 13th, 2014
We all know the Original Tales from the Brothers Grimm put fear into generations of children.
So, Thank Dog for Disney!
Thieves! Be on the lookout for a new Auction Item coming “soon” to a SDD near you.
2:19 pm on June 13th, 2014

In his book The Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales, Bruno Bettelheim writes that fairytales demonstrate to children that they can take care of themselves–Hansel and Gretel for example.
2:32 pm on June 13th, 2014
Siber-H: There is a book titled Grimm’s Grimmest (I have a copy) illustrated, published by Chronicle Books. It’s on Amazon. On the dust jacket it states, “Some of these tales are recognizable, but contain elements that have long since been removed.”
2:35 pm on June 13th, 2014

Rio, thank you for the reminder of how to make an auction item marketable 🙂
3:12 pm on June 13th, 2014
Stover, Thank you! I found it for mom and will order it today.
Paws crossed, but we have never had a problem with third party sellers on Amazon.
I have already told mom that the stories in the book will not keep Sibers from wondering off. She doesn’t need to read it to me.
3:35 pm on June 13th, 2014
Thanks for the Auction Update, Commander Rio.
Making it Interesting could be a Challenge though.
Alice, Abbie & Staff know just how to do this.
3:41 pm on June 13th, 2014
As a child, I read my way through shelf after shelf in our library. I vividly remember a story from a Grimms – it was about a horrid child who pulled wings off flies, and the consequences.
That story scarred (and scared) me for life.
Meanwhile, once again back at the hospital.
Wonder what this is doing for my karma…..
3:48 pm on June 13th, 2014
There is a google doodle today.
3:53 pm on June 13th, 2014
Golinka: We are on our way to keep you company. What do you say we fire up a couple of gurneys and see how they corner?
3:58 pm on June 13th, 2014
Sadie and mini-me:

3:59 pm on June 13th, 2014
Golinka: Waiting for a Room at the Hospital is NOt our idea of how to spend a day.
Your Good Karma? It is worth its weight in Gold.
Here come the Thieves to make things interesting.
4:00 pm on June 13th, 2014
Dawson, google doodle rhymes with Labradoodle. If you have need of a French airhead, Lucy Lou the Labradoo can come and keep you company. Not quite up to the theives’ standards, but … a boat load of laffs 🙂
4:03 pm on June 13th, 2014
C.Hobbit: OMD! What a Cuddly Pair!
4:04 pm on June 13th, 2014
Another one….Ikette has grown just in a couple of days. I bought $50 in puppy toys and her favorites are: Dad’s knotted hankie for tug-of-war, an empty paper towel core and a roll of toilet paper on the spool in the bathroom (do you think she is part kitty?)
4:13 pm on June 13th, 2014
Awww, Sadie and Mini Me, so cute together!
A…stand tough at that hospital, don’t let them try anything shady with you.
4:28 pm on June 13th, 2014
C.Hobbit, they are adorable together. Sadie is going to miss Ikette! I think sh likes being pack leader to a little one.
In The Silent Girl by Gerritsen that was just finished, and Barb’s favorite of the Rozzoli and Isles series, she talks a lot about Chinese fairy tales. They were also gruesome and scary, with a lot of blood and violence, mostly in the form of legendary warriors and their fierce battles.
Staff, we got a notice today that we have a new, (and exciting to us), gardening magazine soon to be arriving. Can’t wait to read it.
4:31 pm on June 13th, 2014
Oh my dawg- Chobbit, you have WAAAAAAYYYYY more will power than I would if confronted with such an adorable mini Sadie.
Waiting for test results at the hospital. Possible blood clot from surgery.
You would be amazed at how much weight one can lose with missing many meals in two weeks.
Come on Thieves- I spotted the new Cyclone 1000 gurney in the next hallway. And there is a ramp that leads down to xray. Betcha we can hit 35 miles per hour if we get a real good push off.
4:42 pm on June 13th, 2014
Barb & Maggie: It is actually Ikette who is bossing Sadie around. Once Sadie is on the bed laying down, they play together. Occasionally Ikette crosses the line but Sadie seems to like the little guy.
A: fingers crossed for a diagnosis soon. (Cheers for the weight loss but what a crummy way to diet)
4:47 pm on June 13th, 2014
Meals!…Missing meals? I cannot fathom the concept…grunt!
4:55 pm on June 13th, 2014
You would be surprised how many meals you can miss when you can’t get up the energy to fix something, yet I haven’t lost any weight.
5:00 pm on June 13th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama, we would like to join in the Cyclone 1000 gurney race but only if a 360 is added at the 3/4 way down the hall so we can land in a face plant at the Xray door 🙂
5:01 pm on June 13th, 2014
Mom wants to adopt Ikette, if Sadie comes with. They are a matched set.
We were all scared watching Fargo. That show is so well done, and we were afraid to breathe. But we thought this was going to be the finale. No! We get to watch one more next week. Hurray!
5:21 pm on June 13th, 2014
Howlers! I know. We do not want it to end.
5:44 pm on June 13th, 2014
Sadie and puppy are so adorable together and they seem to be good friends.
Gah, Amalia, I am sure you are tired.
5:57 pm on June 13th, 2014
Howlers!…Next weeks finale is 90 minutes long!…wheeze!…No one can breath a word about it until we all see it…snort!…It is going to be EXCITING!
6:16 pm on June 13th, 2014
Whew! I’m cutting it close but Mom finally has an item for the Snowhook auction.
6:17 pm on June 13th, 2014
She just has to get a pic taken then email Rebecca.
6:34 pm on June 13th, 2014
Boo be doin’ better than we b doin’ 🙁
6:45 pm on June 13th, 2014
BooBear: Mom hasn’t taken a photo of mine yet either. Only one more week til the deadline! Can this be true?
6:50 pm on June 13th, 2014
Yikes! We have been so tipsy turvey here, we almost blew it too.
But we promised a bear for every auction, and a bear there will be.
It may be wearing hospital scrubs, but there will be a bear.
6:51 pm on June 13th, 2014
“Tipsy turvey”?
Freakin’ otters!
6:57 pm on June 13th, 2014
Bear, no thanks for Disney! I am still in a trauma over Bambi.
7:28 pm on June 13th, 2014
C Hobbit: Sadie and Ikette look so adorable together. I do believe Sadie is saying, if I don’t get this little Ikette, I will be in a very bad mood.
7:29 pm on June 13th, 2014
MPM, That makes two of us!
7:48 pm on June 13th, 2014
Bambi!…My friend remembers seeing Bambi at the Drive-In…sniff!…She says it was very very sad…snorkel!
8:01 pm on June 13th, 2014
Oh dear, it’s hockey time.
8:18 pm on June 13th, 2014
Another Disney movie…”Old Yeller”
8:19 pm on June 13th, 2014
“Eight Below” is a Disney movie.
8:21 pm on June 13th, 2014
“Dumbo” made me cry….
8:25 pm on June 13th, 2014
I remember having nightmares of a rabid dog under my bed after seeing Old Yeller. Disney went through a phase of sad animal / dog movies–anyone remember “Dog of Flanders (?)” I was always crying at the end of the movie when the house lights came up. To this day I will be with friends watching a sad movie where a main character dies and my friends will be reduced to tears at the end whereas I am asking “where do you want to do eat?” But if a dog dies, forget it.
8:33 pm on June 13th, 2014
Mom has never seen Bambi, or Old Yeller. She never will. Case closed.
8:36 pm on June 13th, 2014
Another film that reduces me to tears is “Lassie Come Home” with Elizabeth Taylor and Roddy MacDowell.
The Zeta and Teddy films make me cry too.
8:37 pm on June 13th, 2014
Point!…The fact remains, everyone Remembers those stories…heh!heh!…So “Success!”…snorkel!
8:39 pm on June 13th, 2014
MollysMaw!…So the Rangers lived to die another day?…hey!…We will check out the game tonight…snort!
8:40 pm on June 13th, 2014
Cooking!…Someone here is watching a cooking show. There is no budging her off of The Next Food Network Star…grump!
9:05 pm on June 13th, 2014
Rio, Kings 1, Rangers 0. End of the first period.
9:08 pm on June 13th, 2014
Kings!…grunt!…Well 1 ta Nil is not too bad….snorkel!…We will be turning over to the game very shortly…sniff!
9:32 pm on June 13th, 2014
All those and more. Black Beauty was one more that made Barb cry. She saw Bambi when she was about 5 yrs. old and has not liked hunting for the past 63 years! Howlers, she is the same way as your mom. She tears up much faster over an animal death. Why is that?
9:39 pm on June 13th, 2014
So, hi guys! Yeah, who says animals don’t have feelings anyway?
But on to other things. First, Grimm, yes very, fairy tales. I ahve a book around here on one of these book players. I think it was edited by Philip Pullman, so I’m sure we can be sure it’s the original stories. The Grimm brothers weren’t eh only ones who had some pretty gruesome stuff. Hans Christian Anderson’s “Little Mermaid” paid for her ability to walk on the land, with every step being as if she were walking on broken shards of glass.
But it starts even earlier. What about that violent lullabye about children in cradles falling out of trees? Terrible, I tell you, just awful, and people sing these things to their children and it’s all right. Really? How is a baby falling out of a tree all right? I ask you.
So glad this week is about over. It started with getting bitten by a neighborhood dog, and when your week starts like that, it’s all downhill, no matter what happens really. No, it wasn’t a bad bite. Yes, the dog was up on its shots. No, it’s not infected, yes, I had a tetanus shot this year after I sliced open my thumb with a pocket knife, so it’s all good. Yes, the owner of the dog is an irresponsible so and so, and no, you may not have your dog tied up, unsupervised, on a chain that allowed any part of your dog’s body to reach the public sidewalk. If for no other reason than that your dog could get itself tangled in the chain and choke itself to death, but besides that well, you know…it’s just not a good thing.
And now, on to page 2.
9:41 pm on June 13th, 2014
There was an old movie where the star fell from a horse. Mom thinks it may have been Elizabeth Taylor, but the movie was not National Velvet. The point of the fall was to be upset about the woman, but Mom was only upset about the horse, who fell going over a jump. Mom says a horse being hurt is absolutely the worst for her.
9:44 pm on June 13th, 2014
Hi Buddy and Leno! Good to hear from you. Sorry to hear about the dogbite. And now Mom is very worrit for that dog.
9:52 pm on June 13th, 2014
The dog will be all right. It was just a little bite. The owner supposedly shortened its chain to four feet so it can’t reach the sidewalk. Good enough, although I still say it’s pretty damned irresponsible to leave a dog tied up unsupervised in an unfenced area like that. Actually, I say the dog will be all right, but I think the dog would be all righter if the owner were someone who more deserved to have a dog. Oh well…she’s for sure note the only idiot out there.
10:01 pm on June 13th, 2014
Wow!
Mollypop’s Mom: Did you see that nice goal to tie the game up?
10:02 pm on June 13th, 2014
CHobbit – your post made us laugh. Yup, we are the same. We remember seeing “Love Story” as a teen. All my friends were a mess. Me- I was just pissed that there wasn’t any medical intervention.
Hmmm. Maybe a stepping stone to my life???
Buddy- glad you are OK. Wouldn’t it be a shame if some passing stranger pupnapped that dog, and found it a good home.
So, brother does not have a blood clot, thank dawg. But I am getting really tired of the hospital waiting room magazines.
10:05 pm on June 13th, 2014
CHobbit: Little Ikette could steal your heart!
Sadie seems to be enjoying the company.
10:13 pm on June 13th, 2014
I’m sure, given the right environment, that the dog is very nice. Or could be. I think most dogs could be, but the ones that aren’t (if they’re not just mental, thankfully a rarity, it seems to me) Anyway the ones that aren’t really could be given the right environment and training. This dog was barking and lunging to the full extent of his chain. Seemed a bit territorial. I really hate to see that sort of thing. No idea what kind of dog s/he was, only that s/he was bigger than Fiona but smaller than Leno. Maybe 30-40 pounds. But seemed way too worked up to make friends.
10:33 pm on June 13th, 2014
OH gosh stuff for the Auction. Yikes. I had better get going.
Amalia, poor dear. I hate sitting around in hospital emergency rooms. It is even worse sitting around waiting to get into a hospital emergency room. grump. Haven’t had to do it for a while so I should knock on wood.
Pawrayers going out to you and the family.
Hugs to Wose and hopes that her day ‘camp’ is helpful.
BooBear hug your Mom and Pop for us.
Thinking of Wolfie and her challenges
ML and her challenges
Me, well I am feeling great and looking forward to getting this darn hernia under control. Yeep Two more days and the Turtleman gets home and I can go home to the farm. I wonder if Mr.Staff is keeping ahead of the weeds?

Hockey!….Holy Crap!…snort!….We come back from a late walk and the Rangers have magically tied the game….WOOOO!…But there is only about 5 minutes left in the 3rd period…heh!…I bet MollysMaw is chewing on a Karrot right now…chuffle!
11:02 pm on June 13th, 2014

11:10 pm on June 13th, 2014
Correction!….Sudden DEATH for the Rangers if they do not score…gasp!
12:09 am on June 14th, 2014
Anyone remember the movie “Sunshine” (?) based on a true story…. It was about a young couple and the mother was diagnosed with bone cancer in her leg. The docs advised amputation but the mother decided that she didn’t want to be crawling/walking on crutches while her baby girl was learning to walk. So she ended up dying leaving the little girl with no mother. It was supposed to be really sappy (the husband was in newspaper and magazine articles at the time) but I just that she made a stupid choice.
12:13 am on June 14th, 2014
Hockey game sounds really exciting!
MPM: Sadie and mini-me have been playing all evening. Mini-me’s favorite toys at the moment are Mr. Carrot and the monkey you gave Sadie when you visited. Yeep!
12:26 am on June 14th, 2014
Sadie has stolen some of mini-me’s toys and they have been racing around the deck with mini-me in hot pursuit. Sadie’s panting, her tongue is hanging out and mini-me is barking and ready to go another 10 rounds (except for an occasional collapse under the deck chair). ALMOST AS EXCITING AS THE HOCKEY GAME! Who will win?
12:40 am on June 14th, 2014
CHobbit: Go Sadie! Go Mini-me!
The Rangers goalie was the best player! But the LA Kings prevailed.
12:47 am on June 14th, 2014
Aw, I love a good dog story. I wish I was there to see the action on the deck. I wish I was anywhere but here. Or nowhere at all.
I love you guys.
12:48 am on June 14th, 2014
CHobbit, It sounds as if Sadie is really happy that she has a pal. Hmmmmm. I wonder who will win.
It is nice that the carrots are so popular. Who knew? One of the most favorite toys at the farm is the yellow banana filled with catnip. It has stayed the favorite for many many years.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XV23LoFt_4
Do you see how the second cat’s banana is all discolored? Alice and Abbies’s banana is much worse looking than that. Ish. But they still love it.

Dear ML, sniff. We are glad you are here!
Rio, The Turtleman is off in AZ visiting the in-laws. A big anniversary party is the reason. His job with Hell on Wheels is over. I should check and see when that show will be on. I might have to start watching some TV.

Mini-me is laying down with 2 toys (one of his, one of Sadie’s), Sadie is on the deck with no toys (plus it is starting to sprinkle). I am thinking both will sleep well tonight–me too I hope.

What’s this. Our Lady came and went tonight after putting Luna in charge. It seems she is getting on an aeroplane tonight and will be with Coach and Bev early in the morning. She is going to visit for a few days and then she will go to a conference. But, the best part is her return. She is going to get back just in time for the first day to sign up for the Iditarod. Luna was put in charge of everything, but we were out in charge of fun. Let the games begin!

Was our last post English? Nope. That’s what we get for trying to post one last message before the aeroplane door is closed. ML, we love you. Remember Luna’s must do for you? Case closed.

When he is about to rock stab, quickly back off
(The Wraith’s Rock Stab ability has a cool down period).
It didn’t take us long to get to bed anticipating yet another full day to come.
As we left, I saw some picnickers on the grass, a sight I’d taken as emblematic of European parks.
