Dan Montague
“What did you think of Dan’s book?” Admin says.
“For The Love Of Puppies: Memoir Of A Breeder’s Husband?” says Spence. “I loved it.”
“Me, too,” says Admin.
“Yeah? But you’re not a memoir guy.”
“Hate ’em as a rule,” says Admin. “Hate, despise, loathe. But this one was great.”
“Like the illustrations, too?”
“Yup.”
“‘More puppies to care for,'” says Spence with a little laugh.
Hey! Sounds like a plan.

Good morning Chet, Spence and Admin. I loved Dan's memoir (isn't that a great word) also. And how wonderful to have a post about it! (Admin is extremely opinionated…I like that also!)
4:08 am on October 26th, 2010
SH: I'm laughing so hard at the image of the lawn chair chasing you that I can't drink my coffee. I shouldn't laugh because it was probably scary but….snort!!…as someone would say.
We have damaging wind and severe thunderstorm warnings until 10PM here.
5:11 am on October 26th, 2010
Dan!… He is the Man. I’m so glad he has gotten special mention on this here blog….grunt!… I hope Zoe and Dan will have more puppies to care for once Dan is tip-top….snort! …Cause it sounds like Spencer wants a brand new Newf to drool all over him…heh!
Huff!….I am sending all this damn wind to the eastern states….grump!… I’ve had it up to here with it…snarl!…It’s still windy and cold here but not like yesterday…sniff!
5:20 am on October 26th, 2010
I'm waiting until Dan comes downstairs, then I'm going to put him in front of the computer and bring up the blog.
Totally awesome.
Hey Riö and Siber-H: Be careful of flying pugs. I think they are worse than lawn chairs!
5:27 am on October 26th, 2010
Admin!… When he said, “Hate, despise, loathe.”, it reminded me of a character in Reality Check…snort!… A guy named Simon says he hates nature then adds, “Despise, detest, loathe.” ….heh!…I see a pattern when Admin wants to get his point across… grunt!
5:28 am on October 26th, 2010
Melanie!….Tell us exactly what Dan says when he reads the post, pleaseeeeee!…snort! … Hi Dan!..sniffle!
5:45 am on October 26th, 2010
I'm floored by all the comments. Thank you much. Don't remember the lawn chair chasing me. Did I say that? I'm down stairs now ,off and on and getting well.
5:45 am on October 26th, 2010
That last one was from Dan!
5:54 am on October 26th, 2010
We totally agree here in Chevy Chase. Both my mom and dad read the book and just loved it; their only regret was that it came to an end. It's definitely one of those books that you just want to keep reading and reading and reading. My dad took about 4 days (he was reading it on the subway to/from his "busy place") but my mom wrestled it away from him and basically read the entire thing Sunday afternoon (she couldn't put it down). So sweet and touching and filled with laughter; the Montague clan is so totally incredible. Wookie the sentimentalist
5:56 am on October 26th, 2010
Good morning Dan. I'm so glad that you're back home again.
5:57 am on October 26th, 2010
Hat tip to Dan! Keep up the good work and continue to get well. Tornado sirens going off here in Grand Rapids MI. We're heading to the kennel. Laters, baby!
5:58 am on October 26th, 2010
Hi Dan, Glad you got your own post. We are rooting for you here in the windy North Dakota. Tails UP!
6:02 am on October 26th, 2010
ND!… I heard there were blizzard warning for North Dakota – or was that South Dakota?…snort!… Better watch your tail Alice!…sneeze!
6:12 am on October 26th, 2010
I am being careful Rio,
I snuck out two days ago and found a big grey cat was under the deck. I had to go hide out under the east porch and refused to come out until Staff scared that big old cat away.
I was happy to be back inside. It has been rainy and windy since then and I am not so willing to sneak out.
Yup, Rain and snow tonight and blowing snow tomorrow. Hooo boy, I think fall is just about over.

I like the door to summer and Staff keeps opening the door to cold rainy and wet. She is so-o mean.
6:25 am on October 26th, 2010
Dan! How awesome! We love your book and hope you will continue the memoir.
6:35 am on October 26th, 2010
Alice: "The door to summer…." I like that.
6:40 am on October 26th, 2010
We've said it before and we will say it again…We loved Dan's book and the illustrations are beautiful. We are going to read it again soon. We knew Chet and the lads would love it.
Yes!!! Dan is home and getting well!!
All of you that are East of me and Rio…BE CAREFUL! The monster storm is upon you. Stay indoors or the flying lawn chairs will get you. Don't go out that door Alice.
Barb&Maggie, gasp, I heard it could be your worst storm in 70 years. After the wind comes the cold. The humans at the dog park were grumbling about the cold, but us Huskies were loving it. My mom will just have to work on adjusting to the change of seasons.
6:42 am on October 26th, 2010
"Chet and the lads…." I like that too.
6:45 am on October 26th, 2010
That's a great idea, Molly…that Dan continue the memoir.
6:46 am on October 26th, 2010
Siber H — I bet the flying lawn chairs will at least chase away the marauding goats! Wookie
6:48 am on October 26th, 2010
lol Wookie
In our newspapers lost and found pet section, two goats have gone missing.
7:13 am on October 26th, 2010
Heh! Heh!
7:20 am on October 26th, 2010
Jaspers' mom here. Tornado sirens have stopped. Jazzy slept thru the whole thing. Actually, he's still snoozin'.
All is well.
7:41 am on October 26th, 2010
BStover,
Here is the original door to summer. Do you read science fiction? My parents had all of the Fantasy and Science Fiction and Argosy magazines from 1948 until the late 1990's. Now my brother has them.

7:56 am on October 26th, 2010
The rain seems to be coming down from four different directions at once.
8:05 am on October 26th, 2010
Now that terrible weather is coming our way. I guess then we send it on to Melanie.
We just came in from a walk. It's 72 degrees and balmy right now.
8:06 am on October 26th, 2010
Goodness, we're in the midst of a hot hot fall (actually still summer..supposed to be 90 today). Alice is talking about the end of fall and winter closing in. Right now we are very jealous.
Kudos to you, Dan, for the acknowledgement by Chet and all. We also loved the book as we previously posted but we're sure it will be re-read many times.
8:07 am on October 26th, 2010
Alice: Thank you. I had never heard of that novel before. Do you watch Fringe?
8:18 am on October 26th, 2010
I just ordered The Door Into Summer from Amazon.
8:51 am on October 26th, 2010
Thanks Sam (said sarcastically)
We are also warm. 65 degrees.
Zoë is not talking to Mac today. He misbehaved on the walk/run (she kept having to send Rosie out to get him, he'd come back and leave again) and then when they got home, he leaped out of the van and down the street.
He was going to visit the neighbors but no one was out.
Zoë gave him whatfor when he got in the house. He just looked at her and said, "What?"
9:07 am on October 26th, 2010
Mac!… You go Mac!…snort!… I’d run away if I could… snuff!…But I’m not supposed to leave the yard. …grump!
9:52 am on October 26th, 2010
SiberH!… Are they offering any reward money for those two missing goats?….snort!
10:01 am on October 26th, 2010
No, they aren't offering a reward, Rio. I don't know how you can lose two goats. They must have run off to join the marauding goats.
I'm beginning to think Newfs must have a touch of Husky in them. First it was the over the wall gang and now it is Mac heading down the street.
10:23 am on October 26th, 2010
Hello, everyone. We wern't able to use the computer earlier, probably due to this wonderful rain/wind storm. Yes, it is bad!!! We heard that too, about worst in 70 years. It's sort of scary. So far there are just a few small branches down, no major damage here.
Was nice to read about Dan up above, and we agree, the book was wonderful to read. Admin/Spence do sound like they may have a special interest in visiting the Newfies when there is another litter.
Melanie, Will you breed Gracie back to the same stud again, that carries the Irish Spotted gene?
10:38 am on October 26th, 2010
Goats! … The word on the street is the Marauding Goat Army is actively recruiting maladjusted goats who are discontent to simply eat what their owners give them….snort!…Even my friends cousin had one of her goats strike back. Apparently, her cousin had just washed and polished her brand new black car….wheeze!… when one of her goats saw his reflection on the car and started ramming it with his horns…grunt!…She now has 7 big dents in her new car….heh! … Serves her right for owning Goats!…cough!

10:48 am on October 26th, 2010
Oh, that's funny Riö!
Not sure when we're going to breed again. Depends on Dan's health.
Glad you're okay Jasper. Dan was worried.
Everyone stay safe with this storm.
10:52 am on October 26th, 2010
Rio, Thanks for the heads up about the goat situation. We will go out and put ours under lock and key. Though truth be told, they have not ventured out of the barn today. They do not like wind or rain. Smart goats!
10:53 am on October 26th, 2010
Hey!…Nobody seemed too worried about Me and SiberH when we were going through The Storm….grunt!
11:22 am on October 26th, 2010
Rio: I don't remember you or SH mentioning the storm except for SH's race with the lawn chair. (Blast, I'm still laughing!) But that was near the end of the posts last night.
Glad the tornado passed you by Jasper. It's still windy here but I see some blue sky.
11:47 am on October 26th, 2010
Woo woo to Dan!! You got a whole post to yourself! So awesome!
Mom loves the book. Did she mention that she read the whole darn thing before she even got out of the car?
Send the weather our way! We need Weather! Things are greening up here in the Sierra Foothills but our rainfall is low for this time of year.
We love weather!
11:51 am on October 26th, 2010
Bee – can you please root for the Giants? We need some more fans on our side. Let's see….we have Mollypop, Mollie ABP, and Dawson, and me and mom. That makes five. Am I missing anyone? You know, we ought to have a world series party! Melanie, your place is a great place to have a party, but you have too much going on. Any volunteers? I wonder if we can borrow Spence's credit in order to purchase refreshments. I know that Rio isn't supposed to have beer, but I suspect he may have a sip or two.
Well, mom has to go back to work now so I have to sign off. More later.
Go Giants!!!!
11:56 am on October 26th, 2010
Huh!….Did someone just mention that I could have Beer???…grunt!grunt!
11:57 am on October 26th, 2010
Stover!…Are you losing your memory?… snort!…Between Melanie, Me and SiberH we mentioned the fierce wind quite a bit yesterday….heh!
1:14 pm on October 26th, 2010
Wolfie: Okay, I'll root for the giants.
Rio: Sorry but it must not have registered. How is your weather now? The sun is out but going down and there are no clouds in the sky here. Still windy.
1:16 pm on October 26th, 2010
Wolfie, you got me to root for the Giants too. Those Rangers are a bunch of upstarts.
1:21 pm on October 26th, 2010
I'm rooting for the Giants also – my Dad's favorite team! We won't tell his Dad but Wookie is rooting for the Giants also. He says he'll bring treats for everyone whenever the party happens
1:28 pm on October 26th, 2010
Stover!…I don't know what the weather is like…snort!…I've been stuck in the house all day long…grunt!…She's coming home late again tonight…wheeze!… Where's that potted plant?
1:41 pm on October 26th, 2010
Poor Rio. Where would you run away to if you could leave the yard? I think your friend would miss you.
2:30 pm on October 26th, 2010
Riö, Riö, Riö . . .
Do you just not read my entries? Oh, wait, you did because you answered it . . .
(mumbling) not worried about you . . jeez
yesterday's blog 1:38 PM That's Me!
Your answer yesterday's blog 2:20 pm
mumbling again . . Little self absorbed pug never reads my entries . . .
2:31 pm on October 26th, 2010
Wölfie, I like the idea of a PARTY!! And thanks for not holding it here. The Pack and I are willing to travel and hopefully still have treats when we get there.
2:41 pm on October 26th, 2010
Okay. I remember Rio's comment about the leaves blowing right at him. However, he also mentioned the book and I was trying to remember The Man.
2:50 pm on October 26th, 2010
The bad weather has literally blown through here. On its way to Melanie's.
3:36 pm on October 26th, 2010
I keep looking at the weather report. Sounds like most of the storm will wear itself out before it gets here. They are calling for "maybe" a thunderstorm.
Of course, it's not like the weather people are always correct. .
Going to play Zenerchi, which is a match 3 strategy game. I've done well up to this level 5.2 . . I've been stuck on this one for 2 days.
3:50 pm on October 26th, 2010
Crap!….Melanie, now I have to go back to yesterday and look up your post and lookup my self-absorbed response!….geeze! ….My friend finally got home a while ago and Stover, it is still cold and very windy here…dammit!
4:10 pm on October 26th, 2010
Stover!…. I would run away to Acapulco!…heh!… I hear the living is good and the night life is amazing in Acapulco!…snort! …I’d like to see the La Quebrada Cliff Divers while drinking beer from a bowl and slobbering on a lovely native girl-dog wheeze!cough!snort!
Melanie!…Truth be told, someone else said the same thing today hmmm, I read all of your posts…snort!… I don’t understand most of them, but I do read them word for word…heh!
Hey!… I’ve been debating all day which team I should ‘Be’ for in the World Series…snort!… After searching my pug heart and thinking about next season and flipping a coin…grunt!… There is NO WAY IN HELL that I want the Giants to win!…heh!… We here in Colorado are for the Texas Rangers! By golly!…sneeze! …Go Rangers!…Wooooo!
4:18 pm on October 26th, 2010
Rio: I was in Acapulco on vacation once. Very nice but I wouldn't want to live there.
4:21 pm on October 26th, 2010
Wow!…Did you see the Cliff Divers?…snort!… What did you do in Acapulco Stover???…wheeze!
4:26 pm on October 26th, 2010
I have to say that I also will be rooting for the Rangers. They have never gone to the WS and so I must root for the underdog!
Riö: I guess that was as much as an apology as a Pug can give. Thank you.
4:29 pm on October 26th, 2010
Melanie!…I’m totally missing what I should be apologizing for!…grump!…Please tell me what I’ve done to offend you on this here blog….sneeze!… Maybe I am self-absorbent ..heh!
4:38 pm on October 26th, 2010
Riö, for thinking we didn't care. You silly soft-hearted pug!
Signing off (first I had singing off, but I'm a tad to tired for that!)
4:43 pm on October 26th, 2010
We will be for the Rangers, same reasons as Melanie.
Tomorrow will be a busy day on the blog for sure! Good night y'all.
4:47 pm on October 26th, 2010
Soft!…I’m not soft!…dammit!…Where the hell does she get off calling me a “silly soft-hearted pug”….grump!… I’m the freakin’ Commander in Charge of Mission Trips for gosh sakes!…sniff!… Makes me want to kick Agent Wookies Butt…snort!
4:55 pm on October 26th, 2010
Rio: Yes I saw the divers. Spooky…I hate diving. I was on vacation so I slept in, ate (the red snapper was very good) and swam. It was a long time ago.
4:56 pm on October 26th, 2010
Macy – I have to go to bed now, so I have to tell you ahead of time – who cares.
4:58 pm on October 26th, 2010
SH: "Isotope" is from two Greek words: equal place. It's also chemistry jargon. What is the logic in calling a baseball(?) team by that name?
5:02 pm on October 26th, 2010
Cool!… We have a MAD BIG-TIME LOSERYANKEE FAN …heh!…Classic, isn’t it? They cannot be happy for anyone else. And you call me self-absorbent…heh!
Stover!…Huh? That’s all you did while you were in Acapulco?… shudder!
5:05 pm on October 26th, 2010
SiberH!…I think you should be the one to answer Stover’s question about the name of your baseball team…heh!
5:10 pm on October 26th, 2010
Stover, The baseball team got their name (voted on by the public)
because NM was the state that had the most involvement in splitting the atom and detonating the atomic bomb. Somehow, by naming the team the Isotopes they think they are honoring NM's nuclear history.
I have an idea…ask your friend the physics guy just what an isotope is and what it has to do with the atom, because I don't know for sure.
5:12 pm on October 26th, 2010
hee hee, Rio, The Isotpes are not my baseball team. I don't claim them. I can't get beyond the name, and they are the Dodgers farm team.
5:14 pm on October 26th, 2010
SiberH!…This may explain the Dodgers poor showing this year…heh!heh! …Good to know…snicker!
5:23 pm on October 26th, 2010
I could look up isotope on the internet, but I wouldn't understand the explanation.
5:33 pm on October 26th, 2010
Oh?… It would be a simple explanation. “A very badly named baseball team”…snort!…I think it would be good-times if the Yankees recruited from the Isotopes…heh!…Money makes the man and the player, right?…snuff!
5:40 pm on October 26th, 2010
I'll ask my physics friend SH.
5:54 pm on October 26th, 2010
Sounds good Stover.
Rio, there is a Yankee player…I think his last name is Trainer, that played for the Isotopes. He was in the playoffs.
5:58 pm on October 26th, 2010
Hmmm!…. I wonder if this physics friend is the same guy Stover goes out to dinner with…snort!…OMG! Is Stover dating a guy who is very smart but has no common sense?…grunt!…Although, we are told he does love to do the calculations…heh!… Now we know!…heee!
6:01 pm on October 26th, 2010
Trainer!… He was an Isotope? Really?…heh!… Life is stranger than fiction….wheeze!
6:05 pm on October 26th, 2010
He's a friend Rio.
6:05 pm on October 26th, 2010
Rio,
BStover never said her physics friend was male. heh heh heh
Females can be physicists you know.
6:09 pm on October 26th, 2010
Alice: Yes, Fringe is science fiction. It's about a parallel universe. It's in its third season.
6:16 pm on October 26th, 2010
nighty nite
I'm glad that everyone made it through the storm and is safe at home.
6:17 pm on October 26th, 2010
Alice!…wow! Alice you were driving home from quilting in the blizzard!…snort!…Can I use your driving skills in the upcoming Missions?….wheeze!…Wow, I am also impressed by how you bossed Mr. Staff around too…heh!… I told you this morning you were in for a blizzard, but did you LISTEN…Heck No!..snort!
6:20 pm on October 26th, 2010
Alice!… He’s is a He…heh!… Of course he’s just a friend…snicker!…That’s why she talks about him all the time…sniff!sniff! …Stover, ask him if he knows about the Isotopes baseball team…snort!
6:21 pm on October 26th, 2010
Sniff!…I have to try and type slower to avoid embarrassing typo's…heh!
6:23 pm on October 26th, 2010
Heh Rio,
You caught me. You always do when I post on the Kat's accounts.
7:02 pm on October 26th, 2010
Good night!… We are off to our beds!…heh!…She says she can not and will not let me sleep with her tonight…snort!… She says I snore and fart way too much and she needs her sleep before the World Series starts…wheeze!…Whatever, I am going to go sleep in my warm soft bed where all my baseball toys are still aligned with the stars…hmmm!… I will have to rearrange them before I go round and round before I settle in for the night…dammit! … I hope everyone is out of the cold weather and in their warm soft beds too!…yawn!
9:34 pm on October 26th, 2010
Counting down to the start of the World series…less than 24 hours to go. Macy will surely come along later to remind us that the Rangers are going to the World Series.
11:02 pm on October 26th, 2010
BStover, I just got back from quilting. No I don’t watch Fringe. I don’t watch TV very much. Is it Sci-Fi?
Wow, when I drove home from the quilt store I didn’t dare go over 30 mph. The wind was rocking the van back and forth and the rain had changed to big fat wet pug-slobbery snowflakes. When I was going west it was like driving into exploding fireworks. Luckily most of the time I was going south and the fireworks were blowing past me like white strings.
Very hard to see. Then I was wondering if the last half mile through the trees would find me blocked by fallen trees but no problems coming in.
I made Mr Staff put the van in the quonset. I didn’t want anything to blow on it tonight or tomorrow. They have posted blizzard warnings until 7 pm tomorrow.
Just think of the weather for the World Series if the Twins had won the AL. I knew there was a reason the Rangers won. I think the ‘fix’ was ‘in’.
8:21 am on October 27th, 2010
Have you heard that the Rangers are in the World Series?
7:09 am on June 25th, 2013
nice disclosed subject
