Good morning everyone. Milked a cow? Nope, we will let someone else have that thrill. Cows are BIG and can kick.
    Happy BooBear Day.

I have never milked a cow…thank goodness. From the tag line it looks like this is research for Queenie and Arthur.

    Good morning all.

    Milked a cow,

Many many years ago when the family lived in southern Indiana I was friends with a girl whose family farmed. I would walk along the two lane about 2 miles to her house and “play” with her.
One of the things I did was attempt to learn to milk a cow. There is some secret to how you move your palm that I never learned. The theory was you opened your palm (while holding the teat) and the milk would drop into the teat. Then you would gently squeeze your palm, tightening FROM THE TOP DOWN, and the milk would squirt out in a stream. They could do it. I could not. I was very frustrated.
I also learned I was no good at “stripping tobacco” which meant pulling the leaves off the tobacco stalk. They were pulled off in order as different size leaves were more important than others. They would put me in the middle of the assembly line where the least important leaves were located and they would pass the stalk down the line. Each person taking off the leaves for their size and then the next person would take off the leaves for the next size. I was always a bottleneck. LOL

Staff is right about milking a cow. It is harder than it looks. However, I loved stripping tobacco leaves. Both occurred on my grandfather’s KY farm.

Bev, the mother not the lead dog grew up on a dairy farm. We suspect she could tell tell a thing or two about milking cows. AJ grew up on a large cattle ranch. Their cows were not for milking but for eating. Burp!

I am having another lazy day.
On another note…who knew there were so many “How to milk a cow by hand” videos on YouTube?

Hobbit! Our southern Indiana home was 15 miles from Louisville. One of my father’s sisters (the one who married a rich guy) once took this horse mad girl to Churchill Downs. We were only there 2 years but I still love that accent although I rarely hear anything near it up here in the northland.

Cows!…My friend grew up with a few cows, pigs, dogs, kats, bunnies and chameleon lizards when she was very small…snort!…She vividly remembers her dad milking the cows and the Kats would be sitting on their back haunches with their front paws in the air begging for milk…heh!…Well he would take aim and squirt milk right into their mouths!…yeeep!…Those darn Kats did that every morning and night. My friend laughed and laughed every time because the Kats face was something to behold afterward…chorkel!

SQPA: We have done some research about milking cows. Our research suggests that the key to milking cows is to get someone else to do it.
