Cowhide, Ash, Leather …

… make the unique sounds of baseball (sometimes with maple for ash, but there’s a down side to that, a topic for another time). Anyway, those sounds are back!

Admin’s World Series guarantee: Royals vs. Cubs.

It is 34* right now, only going up to 39*,then tomorrow 63* and back down to 27* on Monday. Yikes!

I am fighting a very painful UTI and drinking cranberry juice ever 2 hours. I took antibiotics for 10 days for a sinus infection and I am sure that is what caused it. This is why I almost NEVER go to doctors!

  13. Herd of Hounds
    11:31 am on April 2nd, 2016

Yes Barb they were a one hit wonder. French American group recorded songs from 1970 to 1976. If you can get out of the house you might want to find a probiotic called Azo. Sometimes it really helps.

  14. Dr. Tupper
    11:45 am on April 2nd, 2016

For those who have to take antibiotics for any conditions – you MUST take pro-biotics at the same time to alleviate the side effects of the antibiotics.
Take the pros at different times than the anti’s. And eat live culture yogurt.

(I am not really as doctor, put I play one on the blog)

I wonder what Admin’s favorite pie is. Heh. I don’t think I have ever watched a baseball game. I might have to give it a go just to see what it is like. I have heard the term “7th inning stretch” but have no idea what it is or why it exists.

Breaking news…Sammi the Senior Siamese foster was adopted last night! The older couple wanted a Siamese and a male and were completely unfazed by his age. Sammi had been a foster for10 months. This just goes to show that I will never give up hope for those difficult to adopt cats.

Dr. Tupper I need a second opinion. I’ve been diagnosed with tendonitis in my left Achilles’ tendon. The doctor says basically it just takes time to heal but it has already been two months. I once has tendonitis in my forearms and it took two years to heal and even then if I overdid, it would flare up. This does not bode well for my future hiking trips. I have orthotics to wear but so far they are making things worst. (((Sigh)))

    Another very busy day ahead.

Congrats to Sammie. We here think seniors are the best!

I did not know that about taking probiotics at the same time. Lesson learned. The UTI flared up right after 10 days on the meds. If I go back to Immediate Care they will probably recommend another drug.

  21. B.Stover
    1:05 pm on April 2nd, 2016

Barb: Yes, unsweetened yogurt may help.

Hobbit: The seventh inning stretch is necessary after staring at a screen for hours…or staring at a field of players for hours…while nothing happens. Your body can’t take it so you must stand up and stretch…like a dog or cat.

My brother and SIL had to cancel their flight back home because her father is in the hospital (heart attack and he’s 98). I may be off the blog for a bit.

    Tell me about Azo, please.

I am not a big yogurt fan but when I bought my cranberry juice this morning I bought 3 organic yogurts. I don’t think they are live culture tho. I bought real juice and not the juice cocktail drink. Boy, is it tart!

It is snowing so hard I can barely see my neighbors across the street!

  23. Herd of Hounds
    1:26 pm on April 2nd, 2016

Barb, Azo is a pill that is a probiotic to help with UTI, “girlie” infections from antibiotics and a couple other things. Find at the farmacy and read the front to find the type that will help. No DR needed, just common sense!

  24. Dr. Tupper
    1:49 pm on April 2nd, 2016

Hobbit – tendonitis is a big owie, and unfortunately is seen kind of often in humans that have a certain condition like you and Mama. Unlike arm tendonitis, there is no pressure point brace for Achilles tendons. A few things we can suggest:
*Gentle stretching of the tendon and muscles before any long or uphill walking. Easy to find stretch examples online.
    *Repeat stretching immediately post walk
*Ice pack for 15 minutes post walk, post stretch
*Bromelain (pineapple enzyme)tablets as part of your daily vitamin routine can help your body to heal stressed muscles and tendons
*Arnica gel applied topically, and arnica pills under the tongue 3 times a day are also good all natural, herbal anti-inflamatories.

And for our next trick – the cure for the common cold…..

Tendonitis is your body telling you “STOP DOING THAT!” so if the orthotics are making it worse, stop using them and tell your doc. You may want to go for physical therapy to learn the proper stretches. If all else fails, and it is making your life difficult, you may need to go into a walking cast to immobilize the tendon for a while so it can heal.

Barb – AZO is found with vitamins, and can be a kidney support homeopathic supplement. But if you have a bad UTI, you probably will need medical support so that it does not spread and infect other areas. You probably didn’t get the UTI as a result of the anti’s, but because of the other infection in your body. If the symptoms are not alleviated by your juice regimen by monday, please do consider getting medical help.

Now that was weird – the blog took our last sentence, and put it in the middle of the post. How strange.

Thanks for all the medical advice. I am going to get Azo too. I still think there is a connection. I don’t normally take antis, and this started the day after 10 days or drugs. I haven’t had a UTI since March, 1985.

Ask me why I have such a good memory of when it was……because I took a sulfa drug for it. First time I took it in 1964 I got really bad hives. Took it again 21 yrs later and had anaflaxous (sp?) reaction. Thought I was going to die right then and there!

Sob. We just lost one of our chickens, and Mom is afraid she killed her. Kathryn has been acting sick on and off (mostly on) for a long time. This week she was really bad, and Mom was afraid she had an egg stuck , or maybe pieces of one. Kathryn is the hen that used to lay all of those double yoke eggs, although she hasn’t laid an egg for maybe a year! They took her to the house and let her soak in a warm bath, which she seemed to like. Then they used some vaseline, and tried to squeeze. When they put her back down, her head hung. Done. Sob sob sob

Howlers, I tried the warm water bath for a hen I thought might be egg bound. Didn’t seem to help but she liked it. Prep. H works too if they get a prolapse. I am not sure what you were trying to squeeze, but I don’t think you killed her. A sick chicken is a dead chicken usually.

  39. Barb, Maggie & Lucy

Howlers, it is also very unusual that she was not laying. Usually they will lay some eggs their entire lives, up to age 8-10.
