Congratulations Snowhook

Our team in the Iditarod reached Nome yesterday, passing under the famed burled arch. Congratulations to AJ (musher), Rebecca (CEO) and all those brave members of the nation within. Rebecca has taken the time to write nightly updates, for which we’re very grateful. Here’s her last, sent without much of an internet connection:

After eleven days on the trail of encountering -60 temperatures, high winds and fierce storms, Team Snowhook crossed under the burled arch in Nome. Following our reunion under the arch we spent a long time tending to the dogs: feeding, straw for bedding, getting the thumbs up from the vets, and feeding again, walking the dogs, massaging and feeding once more. And, then we slept.

AJ filled me in on stories and some details of the trail over pizza (thanks Sharon and Digger). He is very proud of the dogs. I am very proud of both AJ and the team, very proud.

The dogs will return home today and we will follow on Monday.

***

We sincerely appreciate the Plunderers’ support and friendship. We are honored to be called ‘your team.’ Thank you.

Good morning! Thanks for the update, Spence and Rebecca.
All of the dogs will be happy when they are home, sweet home. When is the Mushers Banquet? Sunday?
It is Spring!!! Pop is plowing the snow. sigh
Earlier, Mom and Pop were debating the wisdom of Lance Mackey’s continuing on, rather than stopping and getting dogs shipped and tested.

Of course, for now, we hope for lots of rest for AJ and Rebecca. The stories can wait…..a little while anyway.

Congratulation Snowhook! There will be many stories to tell and we want to hear them all. The silence from the trail is hard to endure. I don’t know how Rebecca does it (cheesecake).

Our local musher, Rick Casillo, is just heading into Nome today. He was in 44th position and fell to 60th. He also was almost 33 hours in a checkpoint. We hope to hear what happened.

Good morning all. That was upsetting to hear about Lance’s 2nd dog. Wonder what is going on? A virus running thru his team maybe?

Glad Snowhoook is in and safely resting. I am thinking the banquet must be Sunday. Hope Rebecca and AJ can relax and enjoy some quiet time today.

Last night must have been a big pizza night. We had it too – sausage, mushroom, green pepper and onion. Yum!

Howlers, do you follow APAHA? One of Barb’s former insurance clients made the local paper. Lisa White and her son Zach of Woodstock were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Zach won the Jr. Eng. class and is the youngest inductee into the hall of fame at 14. Zach was a baby when Barb insured his folks and their stable.

TY, MP&LL’s Mom. WE are just glad that most of the mushers, especially ours, are safe. Rick Casillo did himself proud, too.

It is sad to see the chute with the ad banners all down. It looks nekkid for the remaining teams.

We knew SAR responded to Scott’s 2nd call for help, but didn’t realize the dogs were left behind.
He has had some bad luck…both this year and last.

Philip posted his report about scratching on his website. It is an incredible story. He took fine care of the dogs and thought of them first and foremost. It was heartbreaking for him and his supporters. It was a tough year of training at a great personal cost to his family. I am proud of him.

Wow! There was a 5th Sibe team in the race: Lev Shvarts. We didn’t realize he was running Sibes.

Fascinating! Next year I am going to watch this race. I can see why Melanie got so excited about it. Zoe
